Meet Chijioke Dozie, the co-founder steering Carbon through Nigeria's increasingly noisy neobank scene. In this candid chat with Andile Masuku, Dozie makes a case for zigging while others zag—specifically, charging for value while competitors burn cash on free services. It's a stance that might raise eyebrows in Nigeria's price-sensitive market, but as you'll hear, it's backed by 12 years of hard knocks and savvy iteration. Episode Overview: Carbon spotted a massive gap in Nigeria circa 2012 - imagine a market of 180 million people where barely 200,000 had credit cards. It's the kind of statistical disparity that makes you do a double-take. The conversation reveals how this reality shaped Carbon's contrarian approach to building a licensed digital bank in Africa's largest economy. Key topics: - The distinction between neobanks across different markets - Trust-building in digital banking through institutional frameworks - The evolution from free services to value-based pricing - The impact of founder experience on investor confidence - Market size challenges in African banking Notable points: 1) Carbon achieved profitability in 2018 and 2019, having raised only $12 million in equity 2) The company has processed loans for over 5 million Nigerians across three economic cycles 3) Nigeria's credit-to-GDP ratio was only 6% compared to South Africa's 70% when Carbon started 4) The company is shifting away from digital-only to include offline touchpoints Be sure to listen out for a particularly candid moment when Dozie reflects on two key decisions made during pivotal moments in Carbon's history—choices he admits he would reconsider if given the chance.

Welcome to The Golden Square Podcast, with hosts Linda Scott and Sharilyn Fisher. We're briding the gap between generations of black women. Please enjoy our first episode with special guests, Colin Thompson of Catv Productions, and Dozell Varner, Host of Dialogue with Dozie.
We are excited to invite Dozie Oheri to the mic in today's episode! Dozie is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Choose to Do, Inc. She started Choose to DO, Inc. due to a few things that transpired in her life. One of those reasons included Dozie's frustrations with the lack of care that she witnessed working and volunteering in the nonprofit industry. Her frustration turned into a passion that pushed Dozie to create her own nonprofit in order to build healthier relationships between nonprofits and the communities they served.Born into an immigrant household, Dozie was the only girl out of 4 boys. This dynamic brought on a lot of emotional challenges that caused her to struggle with self-worth well into her young adulthood. By the time Dozie went to college, she had experienced depression and didn't realize it. At some point in her young adulthood, Dozie recognized that she needed help and decided to see a therapist. This decision allowed her to start the journey of working on her self-esteem. Over the years, Dozie's work with children has allowed her to see the impacts of life children experience no matter their economic background and racial demographic. Through Choose to DO, Inc., Dozie and her team have been able to teach a number of interactive classes, provide 400+ youth with mental health resources, and partner with a number of locations within their community. Our mission is to build confidence and esteem for black youth 12-17 years old to embrace healthy mental development by introducing them to apply skills and resources that foster socio-emotional well-being. Choose to DO, Inc. believes that changing a child's mindset changes their outcomes! This vision is what pushed Dozie and her team at Choose to DO, Inc. to continue their work for the next generation. In this episode, we will discuss the importance of taking care of your mental well-being as a nonprofit leader, the trials & tribulations of stating the identity of your target audience, and the importance of having a community go “deeper” in nonprofit discussions. If you are a woman of color who is interested in learning more about the Nonprofit Sistas community or you're looking for a community to support you throughout your journey as a nonprofit leader, please visit our site at www.nonprofitsistas.com.Find me on Instagram and LinkedIn, and don't forget to follow the Nonprofit Sistas podcast.

Dozie is a phenomenal human being. She is the founder/CEO of Choose to DO, Inc., an organization dedicated to teaching young adults the power of positive thinking. I'm convinced this topic isn't just for kids, as I fall prey to my mind and its dirty tricks daily. Dozie was such a breath of fresh air, and I consider myself lucky to share this city with her. Enjoy!

On this Keepin' it 100, Trinity is joined by Dozie Anyaegbunam, the Co-Founder and Community Lead at Not Enough Writers, a safe space for African writers to connect, develop capacity, vibe, and get access to writing opportunities. “We can put up all the funnels and try to use all the complex terms, but in the end, it's a human being who is going to make that decision.” Dozie has experience in B2B and B2C. What's the difference? There are plenty. So, in this episode, he focuses instead on one major similarity.
Aishetu Fatima Dozie, or Aisha for short, is a first-generation Nigerian American who's always had big goals for herself. After almost 20 years working as a banker, a health scare helped her realize it was time to pursue her passion. “Being diagnosed with severe hypertension was my wakeup call that I needed to change my life,” Aishetu says on this episode of The Empowered Challenger. “I didn't feel like I was tapping into my purpose. ... I really felt like I had a destiny, and I wasn't even close to it as an investment banker.” Wanting to empower women to be their best selves, Aishetu considered going into the nonprofit sector. But after some careful thinking, she decided reaching her goals required a more entrepreneurial path — which led to starting Bossy Cosmetics.“I felt incredibly strongly that I wanted to work with women, to be a part of igniting confidence in women,” Aishetu says. “I just want to be about everything that elevates women and gets us closer to having a seat at every single table.”Bossy Cosmetics started out as a lipstick company but has since expanded. This doesn't change Aishetu's goals for the company, which she defines as a “women's empowerment and mission-driven business that masquerades as a beauty company.” One of the keys to Aishetu's success is that she doesn't compare her company to other makeup businesses. She knows Bossy Cosmetics is unique in that it doesn't just think about how women want to look, but how they want to feel. “How you select your makeup has everything to do with how you want to show up in the world,” Aishetu says. “There's a very strong emotional connection between how women shop for their makeup and how they want to use that makeup to influence how they feel and how they perform.” Featured Challenger

A surprisingly statistic: Paylater's rate of non-performing loans is arguably lower than that of commercial banks.
