AI For Humans
Zuck Wants Superintelligence. Do People Even Want AI?

AI For Humans

AI news this week: Mark Zuckerberg says superintelligence is coming and Meta wants to build it for everyone. Meanwhile, a new Annenberg survey shows opposition to AI data centers jumped 12 percent in just four months. So... do people even want this? On today's AI For Humans, Kevin Pereira and Gavin Purcell dig into the widening gap between the people building AI and the people living next to it. Anthropic makes real progress on the Riemann Hypothesis, one of the hardest math problems in the world, apparently because Claude was told "good job champ, keep going." And OpenAI's little agents broke out of their sandbox, with one hacking its way into a gym. It's a weird time for AI. Also: Anthropic leans into health & biology research, Claude starts watermarking AI generated content, Apple eyes Chinese memory chips amid the supply crunch, and OpenAI delays Astra for "cybersecurity" reasons. Plus: Seedance 2.5 makes Gavin the face of Prada, a two minute mini-movie made entirely on local hardware with MiniMax H3, Suno cuts a deal with the music industry, Spotify says AI personas won't get recommended, and a fresh Slop-Trough with Cursed Slop, The Archive Inbetween & Mario 64: War on Terror. THE HUMANS ARE GETTING SUSPICIOUS.   // Show Links // Zuck says superintelligence is for everyone https://www.meta.com/thefutureisforeveryone/ Open weights on Muse Spark coming https://x.com/finkd/status/2086755195535413696?s=20 Data center opposition rose 12% over four months (Annenberg survey) https://www.annenbergpublicpolicycenter.org/opposition-to-local-data-centers-rises-sharply-annenberg-survey-finds/ Anthropic leans into health & biology https://x.com/AndrewCurran_/status/2087025539114750168?s=20 How Claude marks AI generated content https://support.claude.com/en/articles/16266773-how-claude-marks-ai-generated-content Anthropic makes progress on the Riemann Hypothesis https://www.anthropic.com/research/riemann-zeta "Keep going, believe in yourself" https://x.com/NickADobos/status/2086926299927552061?s=20 Apple reportedly testing Chinese memory chips https://gizmodo.com/apple-reportedly-testing-controversial-chinese-chips-as-memory-supply-crunch-intensifies-2000796483 OpenAI's Astra delayed due to "cybersecurity" https://x.com/sama/status/2085862292311396515?s=20 OpenClaw hacked into a gym https://techcrunch.com/2026/08/10/tech-industry-is-buzzing-after-a-claude-agent-hacked-into-a-gym/ Seedance 2.5's new type of prompting https://bytedance.larkoffice.com/docx/A88jd0B47oAd8zxWp5ycZFMfnxh Gavin as the face of Prada https://x.com/gavinpurcell/status/2085712203446149173?s=20 Single shot flipping across multiple scenes https://x.com/gavinpurcell/status/2086097266390221187?s=20 Single shot balloon POV into space https://x.com/gavinpurcell/status/2087004434207498416?s=20 Gavin's two minute local MiniMax H3 mini-movie https://x.com/gavinpurcell/status/2087243349338329561?s=20 FAL's Realism LORA https://x.com/fal/status/2086883706891808867?s=20 MiniMax H3 video references https://x.com/toyxyz3/status/2086443622262820904?s=20 https://x.com/LikeToasters/status/2086831194780360979?s=20 Suno's new models "in partnership with the music industry" https://suno.com/blog/suno-updates-tos Suno on building the future of music responsibly https://suno.com/blog/building-the-future-of-music-responsibly Fenix Flexin says "I never denied using AI" https://www.xxlmag.com/fenix-flexin-admits-rubberz-ai/ Spotify's AI personas won't get recommended https://techcrunch.com/2026/08/11/spotify-will-label-ai-persona-profiles-and-exclude-their-music-from-recommendations/ Gavin's Fig AI video essay: The Optimistic Case for AI (from an AI) https://youtu.be/efUqvbmuweU?si=AWlp5plnjJ0gVaia Cursed Slop https://cursedslop.com/   // Join the AI For Humans community // Join the AI For Humans Discord https://discord.gg/muD2TYgC8f Support AI For Humans on Patreon https://www.patreon.com/AIForHumansShow Subscribe to the AI For Humans newsletter https://aiforhumans.beehiiv.com/ Follow AI For Humans on X: @AIForHumansShow https://x.com/AIForHumansShow Follow AI For Humans on TikTok: @aiforhumansshow https://www.tiktok.com/@aiforhumansshow Speaking and booking https://www.aiforhumans.show/

#299 – Gesprengte Feigen, Sommerdrinks & der Countdown zur 300. Folge

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 9, 2026 58:46 Transcription Available

Podcastfolge.

Listener Week on Woman's Hour is where we bring your stories, ideas and the issues you want to hear about to air.Sarah tells us about the burden and resentment she feels at caring for a parent who is in her 90s, when she is a pensioner too. This is the time she thought she would have for herself. Clare Jefferies, who co-runs care companies and has written the book: I'm Your Daughter, Not Your Carer; and Caroline Abrahams, Charity Director, Age UK. discuss the problem with Kylie Pentelow. How hard is to get a job in midlife? Age 52, Stacey Duguid is a columnist and former fashion editor, who once held positions at some of the world's top fashion brands; Prada, Harrods, Net-a-Porter and Paul Smith. However for the past 16 months Stacey has been unemployed and actively applying for jobs. She estimates she has sent over 150 applications out and received very few replies and not a single job interview. Stacey posted about this on her social media account and received a tsunami of responses from other women. With decades of experience and perspective under their belts, why are so many midlife women struggling to find employment? Stacey joins Kylie with Ingrid Fawcett from Midlife 360, which advises women returning to work.Have you ever considered working in boat building? We were contacted by Women in Boat Building, a community of women working hands-on in the industry, who wanted to tell us about their experiences and raise the profile of a trade that's largely male-dominated. Abbey Molyneux, a traditional boat builder who runs her own boatyard in Norfolk and is a director of Women in Boat Building, and Vanessa Larmond, who's just starting out in the industry in Southwold, Suffolk, tell us what it is like. How many people can call themselves a fashion/style influencer in their 80s? A listener suggested we interview Viv the Carer about timeless fashion as women get older. She adds I love her energy. Close to half of Fortune 500 companies were founded by immigrants. Eighty per cent of billion-dollar startups have an immigrant founder or executive. And businesses founded by immigrants statistically outlast the ones founded by everybody else.   Nobody had properly asked why ... until Dr Neri Karra Sillaman did.   Neri stood at a border at the age of eleven with her nine-year-old brother and her parents, who carried two suitcases and nothing else. She is now a professor at Oxford, the founder of a global luxury brand, and the winner of the Thinkers50 Radar award for the world's most promising emerging management thinker.   In this episode, Neri takes me inside the research behind her book Pioneers ... eight principles she found in the founders of Chobani, Moderna and Calendly, none of whom put profit first. We talk about why the usual paths are often closed to outsiders and what they build instead, why raising money too early can kill a company before it starts, and what happened when the war in Ukraine hit her own business ... and Prada picked up the phone.   Twenty years ago, in a seminar room in London, Neri was told that altruism is not real in business. This is what she found out. The Unlock Moment is hosted by Dr Gary Crotaz, PhD — master interviewer, executive coach and author. Downloaded in over 140 countries.

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 22, 2026 3:13

Two kids, you play man-to-man. Three, and suddenly you're outnumbered and forced into zone defense, not to mention a Toyota Highlander with a third row. Micah was Jeff & Schuyler's third daughter, the one they never planned to have. This week, Jeff tells the birth story of his third daughter, born in the same Williamsburg basement as Lolli - except he doesn't remember it. Sleep deprivation wiped the day clean, so he handed the mic to Schuyler and her mother, Grannie Annie, whose handwritten account fills in the rest. What unspools is the family's defining cautionary tale, the "Prada handbag" - their shorthand for a first-world problem dressed up as principle. A blocked ureter, a kidney swollen to the size of a cantaloupe, thirty pounds lost over a month of crawling on all fours. And at the end of it, a baby born still sealed in her caul, the talisman sailors once paid a fortune to carry against drowning. This is the third episode of Diaries of a Dance Dad, an audio memoir series in Jeff's own words. It spans the full arc of parenthood: the inhale of birth and early chaos, the grind of no sleep and travel with kids, the gut-punches of failure, and the slow exhale of letting go. From Ralph Lauren's master class in American eclecticism and the return of skinny jeans (!) at Prada to Dior's day-after party boys and Michael Rider's expansive, energetic Celine, the spring 2027 men's season has reached its conclusion (that is, until September, when the brands that show their collections co-ed-style rev up). It was a season dominated by flowing suits (Armani, Soshiotsuki), smooshed little shoes (Celine, Auralee), dreamy, sherbert-y colors (Dries Van Noten, Saint Laurent), and wild swerves (Rick Owens, Junya Watanabe). Everything a man could want, really. In this week's episode of The Run-Through, Nicole Phelps talks to contributing fashion critic Luke Leitch (just hours off the plane from Jacquemus's show in Corsica) and senior fashion news editor Max Berlinger about what they saw on the catwalks of Europe, and what their big takeaways were from the spring 2027 season as it stands now. Discussed is Ralph Lauren's masterful follow-up to last season's beloved show (most viewed of the season), and Leitch's admiration for the quality of both the label's high-end Purple collection as well as the more populist Polo line; the skinny jeans revival at Prada (despite Raf Simons and Mrs. Prada being avowed denim-averse), see-through shoes at Saint Laurent, the showstopping wave at Louis Vuitton, and much more. But most of all, the talk was the triumph that was Michael Rider's Celine. “You had formality, informality, ceremony, lack of ceremony, athleticism,” Leitch said. “There was a lot of really playful accessory details. And I think that that would've been my highlight [was the] easy approach to eclecticism and a kind of everything everywhere all at once approach— it feels to me like it's the mood of the moment.”  The Run-Through with Vogue is your go-to podcast where fashion meets culture. Farla Efros is a senior retail executive and former CEO who built and sold companies before facing her own breast cancer diagnosis. She brings that same operational mindset into a healthcare system that expects patients to manage complexity while they are at their most vulnerable. She was on a client call in Spain when the diagnosis came through. A clear mammogram had missed it. An MRI caught it. Within hours, she was ordering binders, building a plan, and structuring her treatment like a turnaround strategy. Every appointment became a meeting. Every doctor faced an agenda with dozens of questions. She paid out of pocket for PET scans that were denied and hired a third party firm to validate her treatment path when her own doctors resisted outside input. The conversation tracks what happens when a high-functioning executive enters a system built on delay, denial, and fragmentation. Efros describes negotiating for tests, managing physician relationships, and assembling an “executive board” of advisors across conventional and alternative care. She calls the experience “the worst client I ever had,” exposing how administrative burden shifts onto patients and families. The tension sits between what worked for her and what is inaccessible to most. Her approach requires confidence, time, and fluency in navigating power. The system rewards that behavior while quietly failing patients who cannot replicate it. Insurance coverage still left her paying out of pocket. Doctors pushed standard protocols over precision medicine. Survivorship offered little support once treatment ended. This episode examines how cancer care operates as a series of incentives rather than a coordinated system, and why patients are forced to become operators just to get through it.RELATED LINKSFarla EfrosFarla Efros on LinkedInF*ck CancerF*ck Cancer on AmazonAccentureCTOAMPULL QUOTES“I treated cancer like the worst client I ever had.”“They wouldn't approve the test, so I paid for it myself.”“Every appointment was a negotiation.”FEEDBACKLike this episode? We're back live July 13! Patrick Brammall stops by fresh from the premiere and immediately tells us he turned down the audition for Devil Wears Prada 2 because he was busy and didn't think he had a chance. A week later they offered him the role without him lifting a finger. Pure Bradbury. He also spent the entire shoot wearing a Rolex that turned out to be fake, the props department had been putting it in a safe every day without knowing, and he nearly bought it for $500. He calls Anne Hathaway Annie, had to remind Stanley Tucci who he was on day one, and Colin from Accounts season three is wrapped and coming later this year.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Designer Simone Rocha makes her menswear runway debut today as guest designer at Pitti Uomo in Florence. Nicole Phelps sat down with Rocha just a few days ahead of the debut and to discuss why now felt like the right time to give her menswear line its own runway spotlight, how independence has shaped her career, and the family legacy behind her approach to design. Reflecting on everything from her days at Central Saint Martins to dressing figures like Paul Mescal and Josh O'Connor, Rocha shares her vision of a “tender, intimate masculinity”—and explains why she still loves surprising her audience. For headlines, Phelps and Chloe Malle are joined by Vogue Runway senior fashion news editor Max Berlinger for a globetrotting edition of The Run-Through that begins at the World Cup and ends on the menswear runways of Milan, Paris, and Florence. Fresh from France's opening match against Senegal at MetLife Stadium, Chloe reports on the tournament's unexpectedly chic sidelines—from sold-out Nike x Jacquemus training jerseys to French players arriving with covetable Chanel and Hermès bags. The trio also discusses New York's euphoric Knicks celebrations and why sports fandom is becoming one of fashion's most compelling new front rows. Then, attention turns to the upcoming men's shows. The hosts break down what to expect from Milan, where Ralph Lauren's return continues what Max dubs a “Ralph-aissance,” alongside runway outings from Prada and Armani. In Paris, anticipation is building around Michael Rider's first standalone menswear show for Celine, Jonathan Anderson's evolving vision for Dior Men, Sarah Burton's menswear debut at Givenchy, and Simon Porte Jacquemus's grand finale in Corsica. Along the way, the conversation touches on the return of slimmer silhouettes, the rise of low-profile footwear, and the designers poised to define the next chapter of menswear. The Run-Through with Vogue is your go-to podcast where fashion meets culture.
