We're excited to share a special episode of the Branch Out Podcast featuring Jeff Henningsen! Jeff has always been curious, creative, and committed to his goals—traits that have fueled his success across a variety of industries. Jeff's entrepreneurial journey began early, mowing lawns as a student to earn extra cash. That side hustle eventually grew into a full-fledged business, which he sold at just 22 years old. From there, he moved into the world of private equity and ultimately became the President of Lockton Companies in Texas, a role he's held for the past 26 years. In addition to his leadership role, Jeff is also the host of the Private Equity Fast Pitch podcast. In this conversation, originally recorded on Branch Out, Jeff shares the mindset shifts and habits that have helped him thrive—both professionally and personally. Key Points From This Episode: The key factor that separates “idea men” from successful entrepreneurs. Why Jeff is so passionate about the value of coaching. What inspired Jeff to launch his podcast—and the surprising outcomes it's led to. The importance of committing to your goals. Why Jeff thinks of himself as a (figurative) orchestra conductor. How being an introvert can actually be a strength. Why doing beats dreaming every time. Whether you're launching a new venture or looking to lead with more purpose, Jeff's story is full of insights and inspiration.
Brent Charleton, President and CEO of Enwave Corporation joined Steve Darling from Proactive to announce a series of strategic agreements that expand the company's global footprint and strengthen its royalty revenue model. Enwave has amended its royalty-bearing license agreement with BranchOut Foods in Peru, granting the company exclusive rights to produce dried blueberry products using EnWave's proprietary Radiant Energy Vacuum (REV™) dehydration technology. This move positions BranchOut as a key producer of premium, shelf-stable blueberry products for both domestic and international markets. Under the revised agreement, BranchOut will begin paying EnWave a minimum annual royalty of US$50,000 for blueberry product sales starting in 2025. Additionally, the company has committed to further minimum exclusivity royalty payments next year for additional rights granted under the original license agreement, ensuring a long-term revenue stream for EnWave. In another significant development, EnWave has amended its agreement with Patatas Fritas Torres S.L. (PFT), a leading Spanish snack food manufacturer. This amendment expands PFT's product portfolio, allowing it to leverage its existing distribution network to rapidly introduce new REV™-dried products to the market. In return, PFT will pay additional minimum annual royalties, reinforcing the financial benefits of the agreement. PFT currently produces premium cheese snacks using EnWave's advanced dehydration technology, operating both 10kW and 100kW REV™ machines. Additionally, EnWave signed an Equipment Purchase Agreement and a License Amendment with Sprouted Proteins SAC in Peru which now holds the exclusive right to produce starch-based snack products and instant soup mixes in Peru. The agreement includes annual minimum exclusivity royalty payments to EnWave. Sprouted Proteins has purchased a 10kW REV™ machine and is leasing a second 10kW REV™ machine to scale up commercial production. #proactiveinvestors #enwavecorporation #tsxv #enw #DehydrationTech #VacuumMicrowave #RoyaltyBusinessModel #BluechipClients #FoodTech #BusinessNews #Investing #CEOInterview #Peru #Spain #Blueberry #Snacks #Royalties #TradeMission

Selling your business is not just a transaction. It is a period of transition filled with unexpected highs and lows. After exiting her own legal practice and watching a close friend struggle with the sale of his company, global keynote speaker and bestselling author, Denise Logan realized that business owners need emotional support for this process of transition. Over the last 13 years, she has woven together her previous experience as a lawyer and mental health professional to help business owners and their advisors navigate the emotional aspects of letting go when it is time to sell their business; ultimately enhancing the likelihood of a successful conclusion while keeping costs and delays to a minimum. Denise joins us on Branch Out today to explain how she keeps people and deals from falling apart by giving emotions a seat at the table. We discuss the pitfalls of growing for the sake of growth, the term ‘product-market-maker fit,' and Denise's belief that it's unprocessed emotion that kills deals, not time. We also touch on the importance of context, how advisors can close more deals by slowing down, and so much more. Don't miss this thought-provoking conversation with The Seller Whisperer herself, Denise Logan!Key Points From This Episode:The emotional aspects of letting go when it's time to sell.Periods of transition that many of us face in our lives and businesses.Advice for redefining your relationship with the business you've created. Tune in to hear this lively conversation regarding overtesting, overtreating, and overcharging, as he and Larson encourage physicians to remember their original oaths and callings. Since 1997, Dr. Keith Smith has been pushing back against the status quo by creating America's first free market surgery center (The Surgery Center of Oklahoma) and founding the Free Market Medical Association, now with more than 30 chapters throughout the country. Dr. Smith's convictions for transparency and integrity caused him to thoroughly examine the “system” he was a part of and make changes where he could – even if that meant leaving modern medical practice to pursue a different ideal. Join us for this episode of Branch Out, as Dr. Smith and Larson (possibly Dr. Smith's biggest fan) discuss the important ideologies behind direct care and physician independence.
Like many other doctors we have interviewed, Dr. Diana Girnita's journey to become a physician began during her hospital stay as a young child. Ultimately, Dr. Girnita established Rheumatologist OnCall in 2019, a telemedicine Rheumatology DPC that is expanding across the country. She joins Branch Out to share her story and the principles behind Rheumatologist OnCall that make her a truly unique physician!

Orthopedic doctor, Daniel Paull, joins Branch Out to discuss his pioneering efforts in direct specialty care and his mission to disrupt the current insurance and hospital systems by encouraging other doctors to seek independence and alternative ways of practicing. He and Larson discuss the nuances of quality metrics, practice apart from incentives, and the restrictions facing direct care physicians. His encouragement for those feeling inspired is best surmised in his closing statement, “It is more of a ready-fire aim mentality, where you just have to go and do it and take a risk and you could fail… But if you don't and a lot of people haven't, you'll end up being in a much better position than you ever thought.” Visit sycamoredocs.com/podcast to access this episode and more great interviews from Branch Out! Guest Bio: After surviving an accident in his youth, Dr. Paull knew orthopedics was something he wanted to pursue. It didn't take long for him to realize the sort of traps physicians can fall prey to so he decided to do things his own way. He now owns America's first mobile cash based orthopedic practice and regularly speaks out about the corrupt insurance and hospital systems with the main goal of disrupting the status quo.

Boulder native and practicing physician, Dr. Marica Pook, joins episode 72 of Branch Out to share the details of her recent trip to Poland and Ukraine. As the daughter of a Polish Immigrant freedom fighter, Dr. Pook felt a deep sense of obligation to extend the same support and hope that was afforded to her father in the 1950's. As the conflict in Eastern Europe intensified, Dr. Pook began collecting medical supplies through every resource she had available, engaging audiences from all across the country. Her trip was full of eye-opening experiences that solidified her desire to return with more support for her colleagues, who are struggling and abundantly thankful for any help they receive. As she prepares for her return trip, she continues to collect necessary and specially requested items that are scarce in Ukraine. Branch Out listeners have a special opportunity to be involved through a variety of means, including financial support, sending supplies, or possibly even joining the next team (which includes one of Sycamore's own) to go later this fall/winter! Dr. Pook began her entrepreneurial journey early in her career with the establishment of the first urgent care in her area, alongside two other female doctors. She went on to have a thriving career but soon realized that in order to achieve the work/life balance she desired, she needed to take her career into her own hands. She went on to create a local locums company that would allow her to be the “mommy-physician” she wanted to be. She considers herself to be a self-starter who is continually learning and pushing herself to be better. Her father's own story of fleeing a war-torn country fostered a sense of responsibility within her to serve others in similar situations. So, when the Ukraine-Russia conflict escalated, Dr. Pook began her work to collect and deliver supplies to those doctors overseas. She continues to serve in this capacity and welcomes any and all support she can garner.

If it sounds like a lot of work - it is! But is it worth it?
Sarah Patterson, CMO of Samsara, doesn't believe in keeping your armor up around your coworkers: “You've got something else on your mind, it's going to come through,” she says. While working at Salesforce, she worked with a career coach and discovered that opening up about her personal and professional struggles brought her team closer. And that has also held true in her current role at Samsara, a fast-growing fleet management company that went public in December. In this episode, Sarah and Joubin discuss the silver lining of the pandemic for her family's cohesion; why catching up on work is a form of recharging; the benefits of journaling, even if it's in an email thread; what Samsara does for a vital but un-digitized sector of the economy; the scary experience of living in the era of “smoke days”; hiring for sustainable rapid growth; Samsara's IPO and earning the trust of the whole team; and how Sarah prepared to interview star skiier Lindsey Vonn.In this episode, we cover: Making deliberate choices about how you spend your time (06:36) Accepting imperfection and being vulnerable with your colleagues (11:18) The practice that goes into looking polished onstage (17:17) The year Sarah left Salesforce for BranchOut, and why she went back (23:15) The rapid growth of Samsara, and what it does (27:35) How a mandate for truckers in North America laid the groundwork for Samsara's business (33:39) How Sarah thinks about the challenge of hiring, and why “what you do” is not the most important thing (39:32) “Trial by fire” - earning the trust of workers who were at Samsara before her (42:43) Is it easier to be an interviewer or an interviewee? Your online business can earn you 7+ figures. On this episode of the Making Bank podcast, Stephen Somers chats about his wildly successful Marketplace SuperHeroes and the lessons he's learned from it. He discusses how he and his partner founded and grew Marketplace SuperHeroes into a now 8 figure business. Stephen learned how to attract clients, keep them, and sell them on more services by creating a business ecosystem. Listen to the episode to hear more about how to execute well to generate a high revenue online. Listen to Josh and Stephen discuss building businesses: Stephen's Background (2:46) Stephen tells the story of how he began as a musician before selling products on Amazon with his now current partner. After finding great success in that, he and his partner began teaching others how they too can build seven figure businesses online. Determination Builds Businesses (6:28) Drawing on his experiences with sports as a child, Stephen talks about the important lesson of persevering, despite what others say. By sticking to the plan and ignoring the noise, he has been able to overcome many challenges to now run an eight-figure company. Find the Expertise and Execute Well (9:55) Stephen attributes much of his success to the success of others. When it comes to building a company, he believes you don't need to reinvent the wheel. Instead, choose processes that are proven to work. Nowadays, there's so much information out there for entrepreneur, you just need to find it and learn from it. Creating an Ecosystem (11:53) After finding success, it was time for Stephen and his partner to grow it. They looked at the problems of those selling via Amazon, as those sellers were their buyers, and tried to solve them. In doing that research, they found a way to incorporate any solution their customers may need under their company, as opposed to referring people to other resources. This created an ecosystem of customers and services. Part of this includes stacking opportunities into one place. For example, if their customers are looking for supplemental paths, Marketplace SuperHeroes will provide that. Where to Branch Out (15:55) In listening to their customers via Facebook groups and feedback, Marketplace SuperHeroes has adjusted and expanded their base to meet needs properly. Relating to that, Stephen also differentiates between the type of content you think people need vs. the content they actually want to watch. Challenges and Solutions (20:38) Stephen shares some of the trials and tribulations he and his company have undergone before reaching success. Even for an eight-figure business, it can still happen! He also shares some of the ways they've changed their approach. Pivoting during Covid (24:02) During Covid, Stephen – like every entrepreneur - had to pivot. In some ways, they had to deal with extra costs, challenges and headaches. In other ways, their business doubled. They found even more success and continue to pivot to this day. Sell, sell, sell (28:05) Before wrapping up, Stephen shares his advice for those selling on Amazon. In addition, he urges any entrepreneur to sell more things to their existing clients. It is the easiest and fastest way to grow your business, and you can see results immediately. Links mentioned: https://joshfelber.com

Thinking OTB | Thinking Outside the Box with Steve Valentine and Bernie Espinosa
You're out there, doing well in real estate and putting in the work. You've established yourself as a solid agent and now you're looking to diversify and up your game by starting a new business adjacent to what you already have going on. The reality is that branching out without a solid plan can end up costing you more than you could believe. This week, we're talking about starting new businesses and how to tell the difference between creating multiple streams of income or creating multiple distractions from success. Great Idea or a Great Distraction? Gary Keller says that the hardest thing for an entrepreneur to do is say no. We all have ideas on how to make things better or places where opportunity exists. But unless we do our due diligence, those ideas are just distractions from what we're supposed to be focusing on. The hard truth is what starts out as a side hustle can turn into something that sucks up all your time, your money, and your earning potential. When evaluating if a business venture is something worth getting into, understanding how much effort you're willing to put into it before you need to stop is a hard question that needs to be answered. When is the Time to Branch Out? All this doom-saying is not to say never try to branch out, but only to be smart about it. Take a look first at yourself and your primary business. Are you still having to hustle to make ends meet, or are you in a great place where things are coasting along? How is your home life: is your work/life balance where you would like it to be? This all needs to be asked before branching out if you want to be in the best place to be successful. Finally, ask yourself: can building a new business help me in each of those areas, and if things go wrong can I fall back on what has already been working without a huge disruption? Answering these questions honestly can greatly increase your chances of success in building your portfolio and becoming the successful business person you want to be. Be honest and put in the work to make it succeed, otherwise it's just a distraction from what is making you a success in the first place. “What I don't advise people to do is get distracted from their day-to-day real estate business. Most people know that we flip houses, we have rentals, and we do traditional business. And there's a mix of everything going on. But we can do all those because we put the right people in place. They're not distractions because if somebody finds out, ‘Hey, you couldn't show me house yesterday, because what, you were scraping popcorn ceilings in your flip?' That doesn't look good for your career.” - Steve “My favorite four-letter word is idea, right? But there's two roads it goes down, it can either become a shiny object or weapon of mass distraction, or it becomes a fully vetted venture. Something that you're actually thinking about all the components that go into that idea to create a revenue stream from it.” – Bernie “I think there's a real basic exercise that any business owner entrepreneur should do for any idea that is create a business plan, right? I mean, it's kind of like Business 101, what is your business plan for this idea, and make that be your sobriety checkpoint.” – Bernie “I think when you do a side hustle, you have to be able to take one amount of money and say, ‘This is what I'm willing to invest. If it doesn't go anywhere, I'm out.' It's either a loss or it's a gain.” – Steve Have a question or topic you'd like us to cover? Science communication is a lot like story telling. In this episode of Branch Out, hear from Laura Skates, Renee Cawthorne and Dr Karl about the importance of talking on behalf of plants.
Extreme plants call for extreme botany. This week on Branch Out, we're exploring the dangerous world of cliff faces, low rainfall and challenging temperatures. We chat to horticulturalist Madeline Arnott-Bryce about succulents, and Dr Russell Barrett about plants that grow in the Kimberley region in WA.

It's a very noisy world out in Australian nature, and sometimes all you need to do is stop and listen (to this).
My guest today is the Zack Onisko, who is behind some incredible breakout growth stories. Zack was an early team member at Tickle, which is generally considered to have pioneered virality as we know it - and did this at a time before Facebook existed. He then worked with Branchout that mastered growth through virality on the Facebook platform, before he led growth for Creative Market and Hired, solving very unique growth problems. Zack today is the CEO of Dribbble, which has been described as LinkedIn for designers. Zack has thought deeply not only about growing but also doing so sustainably. In this fascinating conversation, we cover not just how Zack grew from being a designer to a growth-professional to CEO, but also about what led to the rise & fall of some hyperviral companies - as also some fascinating insights about how his company Dribbble has embraced a fully remote work culture. So much of what he has done is uniquely creative & interesting - and I'm excited to dive into it all with him.KEY HIGHLIGHTSThe origins of the word ‘virality' in the context of digital growth. How Zack advocated for an autonomous growth team at BranchOut - and how this team's work compounded and resulted in 25 to 30 million users in 30 days. Why Dribbble is a fully remote team.
