The Hallow (2015), The Ritual (2017), and Antlers (2021) Cryptids occupy a couple of different categories in modern life. At home in his bare attic, Frank solves the puzzle, and hooked chains emerge, tearing him apart. Later, Frank's brother Larry moves into the same house. He intends to rebuild his relationship with his second wife, Julia, but is unaware that she had an affair with Frank before their marriage. When Larry accidentally cuts his hand moving furniture, his blood drips beneath the attic floor where Frank's organic remains lie undiscovered, which resurrects Frank in a ghoulish form. Julia later finds Frank; still obsessed with him, she agrees to help restore his body, so they can run away together. Julia picks up men in bars and brings them back to the attic, where she mortally wounds them. Frank then drains their life, which regenerates his body. Frank explains to Julia that, having exhausted all sensory experiences, he sought out the puzzle box, which was supposed to provide access to a realm of new carnal pleasures. When the puzzle was solved, the "Cenobites" came to subject him to extreme sadomasochism. Kirsty, Larry's teenage daughter and Frank's niece, sees Julia bringing a man to the house and follows her to the attic, where she finds Frank. She evades Frank and escapes with the puzzle box, collapsing shortly thereafter. Awakening in a hospital, Kirsty opens the box out of curiosity, unknowingly summoning the Cenobites and a monster called the Engineer, from which she narrowly escapes. The Cenobites' leader[Note 1] explains that, although they have been perceived as both angels and demons, they are simply "explorers" from another dimension seeking carnal experiences and can no longer distinguish between pain and pleasure. When they attempt to force Kirsty to return to their realm, she informs Pinhead that Frank has escaped. The Cenobites agree to spare Kirsty and recapture Frank instead, with the condition that Frank must confess to escaping them.

Sometimes the roller coaster world hands you a story so absurd you don't even need a punchline — you just need to read the facts out loud. Many modern supernatural horror films deal with grief and how we cope with it. Some might call it cathartic, while in other films, it's just downright mean! Jamie Clayton didn't just make major headlines when she landed the role of Pinhead in the new Hellraiser (2022) movie, she also made horror history. Clive Barker's original novella — and the 1987 film adaptation — were both deeply rooted in the queer kink scene, and the reboot brings that LGBTQIA+ representation directly onto the screen through its cast and characters. Butthole Surfers' Paul Leary and King Coffey trace the band's unlikely major label journey — from America's top-grossing indie act to MTV hitmakers to a lost album finally resurrected after nearly three decades. Capitol signed Butthole Surfers when they were America's top-grossing indie band. Label president Hale Milgram believed in them; his firing changed everything. Pepper was written on the spot after a producer demanded one more song. Pepper won radio call-in polls for a month and played MTV hourly. The hit turned them into a "follow-up band," which was never their thing. John Paul Jones produced Worm Saloon and taught Paul Leary how to produce. Jones and the band shared a Lagavulin obsession, running up a $20,000 scotch bill. Capitol's big budgets contrasted sharply with Touch and Go's approach. After the Astronaut was a deliberate return to experimental, art-school Butthole Surfers DNA. Mark Ryden painted the original cover; getting dropped handed it to Marcy Playground. Declining a Hellraiser soundtrack placement created the first real rift with Capitol. Their manager's heroin relapse coincided with the band getting dropped mid-promo cycle. Promo cassettes already pressed now sell for $800–$1,000 on the secondary market. Hollywood Records funded Weird Revolution; Rob Cavallo showed up once a week for ten minutes. Finding two-inch master tapes in a storage locker triggered the After the Astronaut remix. Documentary The Whole Truth and Nothing But took director Tom Stern five years to make.
