Often seen as the workhorse of transport in some parts of Africa, the humble bicycle is going through a change on the continent, as people start to cycle for fun and fitness. Modern bikes with more gears and the rise in popularity of taking exercise to get fit have contributed to an increase in recreational cycling. However, safety on the roads remains a major challenge, and United Nations figures from a report last year say 18 cyclists are killed on Africa's roads every day. So with that in mind, Victoria Uwonkunda joined two cycling enthusiasts - Angela Wainaina, who is the captain of Joyriders cycling club in Kenya, and Temitope George who is the captain of Cycology cycling club in Nigeria – to ask them ‘why cycle for fun?'
PJ talks to Cllr Terry Shannon about what can be done about joyriding in Douglas driven by social media posts and they also discuss today's neutrality protest at UCC Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The garda involved in the N7 crash in which three members of a notorious burglary gang died, has been charged with dangerous driving and endangerment. Uncertainty now surrounds the Gardai's ability to engage in pursuits leading to increasingly chaotic scenes on the country's roads. Host: Fionnán Sheahan. An instantly forgettable final day invoked memories of some dark times earlier in the season and we review it all in this end-of-the-campaign podcast, along with assessing who will be here next season, and which areas of the side require the most major work.

The planning laws stopping a farmer from protecting his land from joyriders and criminals. ‘Must do better'; that's what the Office for Environmental Protection says today in a new report about how the Government's getting on with its 25-year plan to improve the environment. We're talking fertiliser all this week and bought-in fertiliser has a massive price tag for farmers at the moment, so there's growing interest in finding ways to reduce reliance on it. For livestock and mixed farmers that might mean using more animal manure, but if you're an arable farmer without livestock, you can use companion cropping. That's growing two or more crops together, one of which will help fertilise the land. Presented by Caz Graham and produced by Beatrice Fenton.

It takes a lot of skills to execute your vision in a film, whether it’s writing, directing, producing or performing. Luckily once you’ve mastered a skill, you find it has applications in more places that just the one where you learned it. In this episode, we’re talking to writer, producer, director and puppeteer, Raymond Carr about the skills he’s acquired in his time in the film & television industry, and how he’s put them to work in other projects.Raymond Carr on IMDb - https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1663618/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0Watch the short film Joyriders - https://watch.eventive.org/atlantafilmfestival2021/play/6062d8da4cb379003020f679/604821323228410096681db0Ninja Puppet Productions - https://www.ninjapuppetproductions.com/Film Impact Georgia - https://www.filmimpactgeorgia.org/
This podcast was recorded in 2017 in Brooks Hotel, at our Writing and Directing Masterclass which took place 29th May. With a room full of WFT members and guests, accomplished filmmaker Aisling Walsh shared her tips, advice, and experience in a dedicated Q&A. About Aisling Walsh Over the last two decades, Walsh has cemented a reputation as one of Ireland's pre-eminent filmmakers in both feature film and television formats. Her celebrated work as a writer and director includes some of the most recognised Irish films in recent years, including Elizabeth Is Missing (2019), Maudie (2016) and Song for a Raggy Boy (2003), as well as Daisy Chain (2007) and Joyriders (1988). Her long and illustrious history of working with the BBC has produced some lauded TV, including An Inspector Calls (2015), A Poet in New York (2014) Room at the Top (2013) Wallander (2012) Fingersmith (2005) Sinners (2002). Walsh has won three BAFTA television awards. Walsh's celebration of the isolated and marginalized have seen her move with effortless ease between both the film and television mediums, long before current trends. From graduating in Fine Art at the now Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art Design and Technology to becoming the first Irish graduate of the National Film School at Beaconsfield in the UK, Walsh has carved a rich and exciting career known for her political and thought-provoking social commentary, and is considered one of Ireland's most celebrated filmmakers. Walsh's career has seen her collaborate with some of the most distinguished and accomplished actors working today, including Aidan Quinn, Kenneth Branagh, Sally Hawkins, Miranda Richardson, Tom Hiddleston, Alfred Molina, Tom Hollander, Rhys Ifans, David Thewlis, Iain Glen and Helen McCrory. Cinematographers such as Martin Fuhrer, Guy Godfree, Lukas Strebel, and editors Alex Mackie and Stephen O'Connell. https://wft.ie/

We're rewinding back to March 2018 to revisit our episode with Raymond Carr, who has since worked on a Disney+ show called Earth to Ned, made his own Afrofuturistic sci-fi adventure film called Joyriders, and worked on Space Jam 2. It's hard to imagine anything more surreal than the stories Jim Henson Company-trained puppeteer Raymond Carr brings to this episode of The Cultured Podcast. Raised by Christian clowns, Raymond spent his childhood touring the country in a pink 18-foot trailer with his family. Raymond shares how his nontraditional upbringing inspired his career in puppetry, which has since led him to perform everywhere from Madison Square Garden to Iceland.
In this episode of the Friends From Film School Podcast, we talk with Actress Jessica Craig. She tells us how she began acting at 11 years old at an acting and modeling talent convention, but decided to put that dream aside to pursue her other passion, animals and veterinary medicine. Soon after graduating from college, she found her way back to performing and quickly began working in commercials, independent film, and theater. You can catch her in Dwight in Shining Armor, which is streaming for free at BYUTV, a new unannounced show on Disney Plus, the upcoming films Joyriders and Encounters: The Dinner Party, as well as "Change My Heart," a music video by the Indigo Girls. Joyriders, Meet Maria! An industrial designer and daily bike commuter since college, Maria wanted to make a product for women who were biking for transportation. She envisioned a better way to carry things on the bike that was both functional and stylish without hiding the fact that these were, in fact, bike bags. Her first Interbike told her that guys were designing products for themselves, and ever since, she's been strongly committed to the idea of equipping women with the gear that they need to integrate biking into their lifestyle and continue to improve the product in service to that mission. Howdy Joyriders! WELCOME TO SEASON THREE! I'm joined on episode 31 by reformed backpacker-turned-bikecamper Dana Kroeck of the blog Blisters and Bugbites! We chat about her love of rail trails, a magical car-free island in..Michigan, and the most unlikely group ride you can possibly imagine. But first.. UPDATES: Bikequity: Money, Class, and Bicycling I'm honored to have been included with some excellent voices in Elly Blue's 14th installment of her feminist bicycling zine Taking The Lane called Bikequity: Money, Class, and Bicycling: Bicycling has the radical potential of equalizing our transportation system, creating more equitable opportunities from the personal to the societal, and being a vehicle for protest and social justice. But that isn't how it always works. The contributors to this volume of Taking the Lane zine tackle of the potentials and realities and unintended consequences of trying to create a better world using human-powered transportation. Edited by Elly Blue and featuring work by Tamika Butler, Adonia Lugo, Do Jun Lee, Gretchin Lair, V.K. Henry, Lauren Hage, Tammy Melody Gomez, Phill Melton, Cat Caperello, Joe Biel, Julie Brooks, Kassandra Karaitis, Katura Reynolds, Rebecca Fish Ewan, Rhienna Renée Guedry, and Adrian Lipscombe. Big thanks to Tim Mooney from the Pedalshift Project for the invitation to join him and the guys from the Sprocket Podcast for a live recording at Stream PDX for the 100th episode of the Pedalshift Project! I was starting to get suuuper sick (hence the jar of orange/ginger/turmeric elixir) but still had a great time chatting with the Tim, Aaron, Guthrie, and Brock (not pictured, on account of him being the photographer) about type 2 fun, bike-it list items, and the future of bike touring. Check it out and let me know what you think! Inspired to Ride Inspired to Ride follows the inaugural TransAm bike race from Oregon to Virginia which took place in 2015. It is an ultra-endurance self-supported race across the entire country. It's mind-blowing what these athletes do to themselves. Y'all. In digging up the trailer for this I discovered that Mike Hall was killed in 2017. He's prominently featured in the film and trailer below. He strikes me as a guy who did exactly what he wanted. May we all have the power to harness our own capabilities. Also the gal who I referenced as a BADASS WOMAN ON A BIKE in the pod is named Juliana Buhring, the Guinness World Record for being the fastest woman to circumnavigate the world on a bicycle and she wrote about Mike in this article for Outside. Friends, you know I believe in the transformative power of the bike, in our personal lives, our communities, and the world at large. I would be super grateful if you'd leave a rating or review in iTunes, Stitcher, or via whatever method you listen. It helps more gals find the show, and I believe the more stories we share, the more women who ride, we make this world - both our internal and external worlds - better with every revolution. Ratings and reviews help with that, but nothing is better than a personal referral, it'd be rad if you would share the show with even just one woman who you think might dig it. As always, friends, I appreciate your time and your attention. Remember, life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage, Keep moving forward and until next time I hope you enjoy the ride. Forever Forward, ~C

Joyriders, I am stoked to chat with Monica Garrison, founder and head shero in charge of the growing organization Black Girls Do Bike. On this episode of the Joyride we'll also talk about Black Girls Do Bike, riding in Pittsburgh, the first BGDB national meetup in Atlanta this June, and how to be a good ally.
