Crowhill and Pigweed drink and review a Sweet Baby Jesus chocolate peanut butter porter and discuss a question that's challenged churches and society for centuries. Should religion and politics mix?Using a collection of social issue position papers published by the United Methodist Church as a starting point, the conversation explores the history of Methodism, from John Wesley's "heart strangely warmed" experience and the Holy Club at Oxford to the circuit riders who helped spread the movement across the American frontier. Along the way, they examine how Methodism became deeply associated with social reform, including efforts against slavery, drunkenness, and other social ills. The discussion then turns to modern political issues, including immigration, worker justice, climate change, the death penalty, abortion, and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Crowhill and Pigweed consider how churches apply biblical principles to contemporary policy debates, where the line between moral teaching and political advocacy should be drawn, and whether clergy are always equipped to speak authoritatively on complex public issues.A recurring theme is the idea that movements formed in crisis often institutionalize a crisis mentality. If a religious movement was born by confronting genuine social problems, does it eventually develop a habit of searching for the next great cause? And does that tendency sometimes lead churches to exaggerate modern problems by comparing them to historic struggles such as slavery, Jim Crow, or the civil rights movement? It's a wide-ranging conversation about faith, public life, church authority, social reform, and the challenges of living out religious convictions in a deeply political age. Plus, as always, there's a beer review to get things started.

Love to hear from you; “Send us a Text Message”A single document from 1968 somehow describes the world we're living in right now. We pick up Pope Paul VI's Humanae Vitae and ask a blunt question: if contraception was supposed to make sex safer, marriage easier, and society calmer, why are we surrounded by divorce, pornography, fatherlessness, hookup culture, and a deep confusion about identity and meaning?Linda Piper walks with us through the “contraceptive mentality” and why it doesn't stay limited to the bedroom. We unpack Paul VI's four warnings: how contraception makes infidelity easier, lowers sexual morality across the culture, reduces respect for women, and invites governments and institutions to treat fertility like a problem to manage. From there we connect the dots to modern claims about contraception rights, abortion, and the feeling many young people carry that something is off even if they can't yet name it.If this conversation helps you see your relationships and your choices with new clarity, subscribe, share it with a friend who's searching, and leave a review so more people can find it.Read Linda's article on X at John Paul II Renewal or on Substack "The World Changes When We Pass On What is True, Good and Beautiful" Visit Claymore and Get a copy of the Claymore Battle Plan Handbook! Njegos Ilic: Why the Product Trio Breaks the Hand-Off Mentality That Kills Team Engagement Read the full Show Notes and search through the world's largest audio library on Agile and Scrum directly on the Scrum Master Toolbox Podcast website: http://bit.ly/SMTP_ShowNotes. "I can't change people, but I can definitely involve them." - Njegos Ilic Njegos describes a pattern he's encountered multiple times as a product owner: teams where engagement is almost nonexistent. He walks into a refinement session, presents ideas, asks for feedback — and gets crickets. Nobody pushes back, nobody asks questions, nobody challenges the assumptions. The result is a product owner working in isolation, defining everything alone, only to discover gaps during development that could have been caught early with a single conversation. Njegos is honest about the limits of what any one person can do — you can't change people's personalities, and expecting a Scrum Master to do so is unrealistic. But what you can do is involve people. His approach when joining a new team: don't come in announcing how things will work. Instead, learn how the team already works, meet them where they are, and then find ways to fit new concepts into their existing rhythm. For the non-negotiable things — the red lines — he's precise, open, and always provides an alternative rather than just pushing his way. In this segment, we talk about Discovery and Delivery and the Product Trio concept. Self-reflection Question: When you join a team meeting and get silence instead of feedback, do you assume agreement — or do you treat it as a signal that something deeper needs to change? Featured Book of the Week: Inspired by Marty Cagan Njegos recommends Inspired by Marty Cagan as the book that most shaped his approach to product ownership. He highlights the entire SVPG series — including Empowered and Transformed (available as the Product is Hard SVPG Box Set) — but points to the Product Trio concept as especially powerful. As Njegos puts it, the Product Trio — bringing together a product manager, a tech lead, and a designer — removes the hand-off mentality where each discipline works in isolation. Instead of the product owner defining everything alone and handing it to the team, the trio shapes problems together during discovery, so that by the time work reaches the team, there's shared understanding of why they're building something, not just what to build. [The Scrum Master Toolbox Podcast Recommends]

What if the version of you that you're chasing is still playing way too small? In this conversation with Andy Frisella, we went deep on something most people don't want to hear but desperately need to understand. Success is not something you arrive at. It is something you chase for the rest of your life. Andy broke down why he genuinely does not feel like he has made it, even after building multiple massive companies, and why that mindset is exactly what keeps him growing. For him, success is the pursuit of your true potential, knowing you will never fully reach it, but choosing to go all in anyway. We talked about what it really takes to win at the highest level, and I can tell you this is not the version of entrepreneurship you see on social media. There is nothing casual about winning. Andy and I both agreed that intensity is not optional. It is required. Most people underestimate the level of urgency and commitment needed to build something meaningful. If you are not willing to bring everything you have, someone else will, and they will pass you. Andy also shared one of the most powerful frameworks I have heard in a long time. He calls it a zero options mentality. Even when you have success, even when you have resources, you operate like you have no backup plan. That mindset forces you to stay sharp, stay hungry, and keep executing. It is not about fear. It is about discipline and ownership. And when you combine that with real mental toughness, you create separation that most people will never close. We also went deep on where the world is going, especially with AI and business. Andy believes the winners will be the ones who use AI to become more efficient behind the scenes, while doubling down on human connection out front. Relationships, culture, and leadership still matter. In fact, they matter more than ever. Ethical entrepreneurs who build great people and great cultures are the ones who will shape the future. This episode is a real look behind the curtain. No hype. No shortcuts. Just the truth about what it takes to build something great, sustain it, and continue to evolve long after most people would have settled. Key Takeaways: Why success is not an endpoint but a lifelong pursuit of your true potential The real level of intensity required to win and why most people fall short What a zero options mentality is and how it keeps you performing at a high level Why mental toughness is the foundation of all success and how to build it How to use AI the right way without losing the human advantage in business The role of ethical entrepreneurship in shaping culture, communities, and the future Click Here to join the Arete Sydicate with Ed and Andy Sign up for a $1 per month trial period at shopify.com/mylett For a limited time, check out Rho's Liposomal NAD+ at https://www.rhonutrition.com/discount/mylett and use code MYLETT for 20% off sitewide. In this episode of The Timeout with Dwyane Wade, Dwyane and Bob welcome Udonis Haslem to break down the playoffs. UD comes in with two stories that say everything about his championship mindset, playing through a broken finger in 2012 and snatching Jeremy Lin’s shoe out of Dwyane’s hand mid-game because he was “seeing red.” On the East, they focus on how Cleveland will try to wear down Jalen Brunson, the paint battle between Mobley, Allen, KAT, and Mitchell Robinson, and give Donovan Mitchell his flowers for bouncing back in Game 7. Out West, Dwyane says Wembanyama has no weaknesses on either end while UD breaks down why OKC’s trio of Holmgren, Jaylin Williams, and Hartenstein are built to handle him. They also debate Anthony Edwards walking off with eight minutes left and praise SGA’s back to back MVPs. Music Credit: Khari Mateen.
