This TIMELESS has actually never been shared on the podcast before. Our guest is Woman Stands Shining also known as Pat McCabe - one of the Diné Nation, and was adopted into the Lakota Spiritual Way of Life. Pat lives in rural New Mexico, but travels internationally to speak, pray, and share her journey with others. Descended from elders taken into residential boarding schools intended to strip her people of their culture, she is continually in the process of remembering and listening for the way Home, back to the true nature of being Human Being. This little piece explores the sacred role of women in indigenous traditions and their deep connection to Mother Earth. With wisdom from the Lakota, Kogi, and other cultures, Pat describes how women are the backbone of families and communities. She shares with us the power of moon time, the importance of reintroducing Grandmother's Lodges and the need to restore balance between the masculine and feminine. This is a call for women to reclaim their spiritual authority—not through dominance, but by aligning with the natural laws and rythms of life. In this TIMELESS we go beyond the billionaire's boys club and explore How True Respect for Women Dismantles Toxic Power. We hope it moves you deeply. Join us as we journey into the depths of winter's sacred darkness with renowned wisdom keepers Pat McCabe (Woman Stands Shining) and Francis Weller. Recorded on December 21, 2024, at SAND's Winter Solstice gathering, this episode invites you into a virtual ceremonial space that honors the winter solstice as a powerful moment of transition and transformation. Through poetry, storytelling, and profound dialogue, McCabe and Weller guide us in exploring the sacred landscapes of loss and regeneration. Drawing from Indigenous wisdom and archetypal psychology, they illuminate how embracing grief and releasing what no longer serves can awaken the tender seeds of renewal within us. This is an invitation to witness and metabolize both personal and collective transitions, understanding death not as an end but as a sacred dreaming—a portal to transformation. This episode offers a contemplative space to embrace life's cyclical nature, reflecting on the solstice as a time for inner alchemy. Together, we honor the rhythms of descent and renewal, finding meaning and hope in the fertile darkness of winter. Whether you are seeking solace, inspiration, or deeper connection, this conversation is a profound offering for anyone navigating the thresholds of life. Pat McCabe (Weyakpa Najin Win, Woman Stands Shining) is a Diné (Navajo) mother, grandmother, activist, artist, writer, ceremonial leader, and international speaker. She is a voice for global peace, and her paintings are created as tools for individual, earth and global healing. She draws upon the Indigenous sciences of Thriving Life to reframe questions about sustainability and balance, and she is devoted to supporting the next generations, Women's Nation and Men's Nation, in being functional members of the “Hoop of Life” and upholding the honor of being human. Francis Weller, MFT, is a psychotherapist, writer and soul activist. He is a master of synthesizing diverse streams of thought from psychology, anthropology, mythology, alchemy, indigenous cultures and poetic traditions. Author of The Wild Edge of Sorrow: Rituals of Renewal and the Sacred Work of Grief; The Threshold Between Loss and Revelation, (with Rashani Réa) and In the Absence of the Ordinary: Essays in a Time of Uncertainty, he has introduced the healing work of ritual to thousands of people. "Embracing the Cycle"In Episode 3, we dive deep into an essential topic with special guest, Pat McCabe (Weyakpa Najin Win, Woman Stands Shining), a Diné mother, grandmother, and ceremonial leader. Michelle and Pat engage in a heartfelt conversation about the importance of healing spaces for women to share their experiences with menses, peri-menopause, and menopause. It's time to break the silence and dismantle the shame surrounding these natural “change of life” initiations that significantly impact our physiology and embodied experience. Thanks for tuning in to All the Things ☺️
We're now a month out from our next cohort of The Deep Masculine, a 3 month online journey for men that weaves together mythology, somatics, ritual & brotherhood. I invited my collaborator Deus Fortier to reflect on our initial journey which we launched earlier this year and completed in June.At its core, The Deep Masculine seeks to repattern men's relationships with eros - the primal force of life. Drawing from the mythopoetic men's movement and texts like Robert Bly's "Iron John" and "King, Warrior, Magician, Lover" by Douglas Gillette and Robert Moore, we offer a framework to help men rediscover a more intimate sense of aliveness. In "Iron John," Bly speaks about the Wild Man, the undomesticated male energy that holds the key to a man's soul. This archetype is deeply connected to the wisdom of the earth. Reconnecting with this energy is a recurring theme in our work. It's important to make a critical distinction between the "wild" and "savage" man. The former is deeply attuned and rightfully placed within the natural order, while the latter is dangerously disconnected. A savage man is willing to shoot up a shopping mall out of their own self-hatred poured forth as rage against others. This understanding is pivotal in redefining what it means to rewild in a positive, life-affirming way.Central to our inquiry is the archetype of The Lover. Modern men's work often prizes the King and the Warrior while neglecting the Lover, whose sensitivity and emotional depth are essential for integrated masculinity. “The Lover keeps the other masculine energies humane, loving and related to each other.” - Robert Moore & Douglas GiletteShadow work is also a significant part of the journey. Often, aspects of ourselves deemed unacceptable are relegated to the shadow. By integrating these parts, men can reclaim lost vitality and unlock deeper wisdom. This process includes exploring sexual shadow, addiction, and infidelity, and forging a pathway for healthier relationships. In the words of indigenous grandmother Pat McCabe, our ultimate vision is to “realign masculinity with thriving life.” This means developing the Lover's qualities such as courtship and appreciative consciousness, and fostering solidarity among men. If you are drawn to these themes, we invite you to apply for the next cohort beginning in late September. The application process itself is a valuable reflective journey. We're inviting a global brotherhood to gather around this fire. p.s. On Sept 4, I'm also hosting a free webinar An Introduction to Mythopoetic Masculinity. Open to all genders. ~Co-presented by The New School and the Racial Healing Initiative at Commonweal's Retreat Center Collaboration~ ¿Qué significaría "volverse nativos" al lugar en el que estamos ahora? Jayne Amelia speaks with Romi Lassally and Patrick McCabe, co-founders of Ready To Succeed which has supported college bound students impacted by foster care or “scholars” (as they call them which is fantastic!) by helping them get into school, stay in school, and flourish after school with resources, relationships with passionate professionals, career coaching, and more. From the Ready To Succeed website:“In January 2016, two non-profit veterans, Romi Lassally and Patrick McCabe, saw the opportunity to transform outcomes with targeted support—to take the foster youth that were motivated, ambitious, and tenacious enough to make it to college and ensure they had the resources, relationships, and opportunities they needed to succeed there and in all facets of life. Romi and Pat believed that if every college student impacted by foster care had the kind of support they needed, when they needed it, they could be successful and have a shot at pursuing a future brighter than their past. Initially leveraging their own personal and professional networks, they began to close the opportunity and network gap their students faced.Encouraging others to start opening their own networks as well, the RTS network began to grow exponentially, creating a deep bench of caring and connected professionals across all industries and at every level of the career ladder. In January 2022, RTS expanded to include low-income first generation college students. Along with students impacted by foster care, these first-gen Scholars have unique access to a diverse group of thought leaders, innovators and passionate professionals who offer advice, opportunities and a community of support.”Ready To SucceedSee bonusbabies.org to learn more about what we are doing and please donate to support us by making a 100% tax-deductible contribution. In this moving and powerful conversation with Pat McCabe hosted by SAND friend and presenter Lynn Murphy from SAND's Wisdom in Times of Crisis series. At this time we are collective examining our human generated systems, worldview, purpose, or our paradigm. What if paradigm was a choice? Indigenous peoples the world over share the same planet, the same water, soil, sky, sun, moon, but how they place themselves relative to these elements is entirely different from how modern world interprets their own humanity. By exploring some of the differences between these two ways of looking at ourselves, what possibilities are revealed for us to move forward in new relationship to ourselves, to each other and to larger than human community? Pat McCabe (Weyakpa Najin Win, Woman Stands Shining) is a Diné (Navajo) mother, grandmother, activist, artist, writer, ceremonial leader, and international speaker. She is a voice for global peace, and her paintings are created as tools for individual, earth and global healing. She draws upon the Indigenous sciences of Thriving Life to reframe questions about sustainability and balance, and she is devoted to supporting the next generations, Women's Nation and Men's Nation, in being functional members of the “Hoop of Life” and upholding the honor of being human. Her primary work at the moment is: The reconciliation between the masculine and feminine, Men's Nation and Women's Nation Remembering, recreating or creating anew a narrative for the Sacred Masculine Addressing the Archetypal Wounding that occurred in our misunderstanding and abuse of technology in prayer, ceremony and science Lynn Murphy is a strategic advisor for foundations and NGOs working in the geopolitical South. She was a senior fellow and program officer at the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation where she focused on international education and global development. She resigned as a “conscientious objector” to neocolonial philanthropy. She holds an MA and PhD in international comparative education from Stanford University. She is also a certified Laban/Bartenieff movement analyst.

This week we are rebroadcasting our interview with Woman Stands Shining (Pat McCabe), originally aired in September of 2021. In the fast-paced movement of today's media, it's easy to become entangled in narratives of extinction, loss, a lack of time, and a tremendous amount of misanthropy. However, when we pause to look within the ecosystems around us we can find examples of life pushing through the most difficult of circumstances. Our more than human kin continues in defiance, refusing to cease their own lineage under the current modern paradigm of exploitation and desecration. In this week's episode, we look into a thriving life paradigm, which places a reverences for life at the center of all action, with guest Woman Stands Shining (Pat McCabe). In this expansive conversation, Woman Stands Shining coalesces topics of Indigenous sovereignty, land back, how gender and consent behave in different paradigms, and the vital importance of moving out of modernity's obsession with intellectualism as the primary way of knowing, into a powerful call to choose a timeless paradigm that is life-affirming for us all. Woman Stands Shining (Pat McCabe) is a Diné grandmother, activist, artist, and international speaker. Her primary work is proposing to the Five-Fingered-Ones, that paradigm is a choice, and pointing to Indigenous cultures as examples that we have evidence that human beings can participate in paradigms in which we can become beings capable of causing all life to thrive. I invited Martha, a font of wisdom, back to Lady Time to debunk those old and terrible myths about the Crone. I remember in my younger years thinking of her as a horrible wizened old woman, not very nice and not something I ever wanted to become. That, however, is something the Crone is definitely not, and like much of a lot of history, the truth has been skewed and altered around her too. In reality the Crone is something to aspire to, as women move through mid life, menopause and beyond. Join me as Martha does a little bit of revisionism on the history of the Crone! Jill x ..... Pat McCabe (Weyakpa Najin Win, Woman Stands Shining) is a Diné (Navajo) mother, grandmother, activist, artist, writer, ceremonial leader, and international speaker. She is a voice for global peace, and her paintings are created as tools for individual, earth, and global healing. She draws upon the Indigenous sciences of Thriving Life to reframe questions about sustainability and balance, and she is devoted to supporting the next generations, Women's Nation and Men's Nation, in being functional members of the “Hoop of Life” and upholding the honor of being human. She addresses the question of “What Could Possibly Go Right?” with thoughts including:The exploration of the “perfect design for thriving life as human being here”The responsibility to understand the consequences of humanity's actions on our interconnected worldThe realization that the “modern world paradigm is a choice” The co-witnessing of today's issues and retelling of our old stories can “change the trajectory into the future”The reconciliation between the masculine and feminine, and that “men are not the patriarchy; the paradigm is the patriarchy”Connect with Pat McCabeWebsite: www.patmccabe.net Facebook: facebook.com/womanstandsshining Follow WCPGR/Resilience.orgFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/buildresilienceTwitter: https://twitter.com/buildresilienceInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/buildresilienceLearn More: https://bit.ly/wcpgr-resSupport the show (https://www.resilience.org/what-could-possibly-go-right-podcast-vicki-robin/supportthepodcast/)
Returning to the Cinema Of The State family is member of the McCabe family, Pat. They discuss blink-182's short punk song along with a discussion of Ron Howard's 1996 Ransom. Along the way they talk Thanksgiving dinner, the McCabe family upbringing, and complain about the Spider-Man trailer.
In this rich conversation with wise woman Pat McCabe we explore many topics including embodiment as a core practice of decolonization and her trouble with the word “decolonizing” healing after cultural severance through Indian boarding schools in family history and the power of growing a multi-faceted identity the importance of including the body in prayer (in her case through sweat lodge ceremony) The question: How do human beings live in such a way that we can support other life to thrive - as do other members in the web of life? How thinking 7 generations ahead slows us down in our decision making Preparing ourselves to meet the times. Grappling with this question: “Is it too late and what should we be doing?” Pat's hope for the emergence of the sacred masculine and its role in supporting the sacred feminine eros to emerge. Both are such powerful forces! the need for radical self love and radical self trust stepping out of the power over paradigm. The importance of encouraging the behavior we want to see more of - rather than nitpicking each other's imperfections. The recognition that we can't eat money, as Chief Seattle said - and Pat's work to support folks in returning money to the flow of life to support earth healing. How would it be to have zeros in your bank account while the earth is dying? To realize in retrospect that you could have done something about it. https://www.patmccabe.net/ Her primary work at the moment is: • The reconciliation between the masculine and feminine, Men's Nation and Women's Nation • Remembering, recreating or creating anew a narrative for the Sacred Masculine • Addressing the Archetypal Wounding that occurred in our misunderstanding and abuse of technology in prayer, ceremony and science
How do we create structures with life at the centre of their being? In this episode Amisha talks with Pat McCabe ‘Woman Stands Shining', of the Diné Nation adopted into the Lakota Spiritual Way of Life. She is an international speaker travelling to pray and to share her journey of remembering and listening for the way Home, back to the true nature of being Human Being. Amisha and Pat speak about how the beauty of our names reminds us of our uniqueness, our community spirit and encounters with the mysteries of Earth and life. They talk about Listening to Earth as a practice requiring us to acknowledge that different paradigms co-exist and that we have different ways of being human outside of modern world paradigms. Pat shares her personal stories and encounters with Mother Earth and how she transitioned from a place of deep intellect to a way of somatic knowing. We learn that Earth is always present if we listen and acknowledge ourselves as her beloved children. They explore how indigenous civilisations cultivated ways of knowing that bypassed intellect. We hear how they increased abundance and biodiversity creating ways to thrive continents as living organisms where humans were gifts of kinship that shared knowledge and cultural cross-pollination. They speak about how the loss of their elders during the pandemic means devastating consequences for humanity due to loosing their vital knowledge, language, teachings and ceremony. Pat believes that possibilities are humming in the air leading us into co-creation of new structures with life at the centre of their being. She has been called to lead change of our dividend paradigms with the world's wealth holders to step from investments to restorations activating our radical self-love, self-trust and our freewill to transform money powers to serve the future of humanity and Mother Earth. Alan McMonagle is an award-winning Galway-based writer, with loads of short stories, radio plays and a couple of novels to his name. His latest novel, Laura Cassidy's Walk Of Fame, was published by Picador in March 2020 - an unfortunate time for marketing a new work, it being the outset of a global pandemic and all. Caroline read it over one weekend when she was ill with COVID-19, and protagonist Laura's relatable, hilarious delusions and fresh, funny voice provided a welcome distraction at that difficult time. They talk about the entirely of the novel-writing process: from initial stirrings to cranking it out, through the editing and publishing stages and beyond, as well as the never-ending benefits of making genuine relationships with other artists, as demonstrated by Alan’s valuable, lifelong correspondence with Pat McCabe. Tipp Today: Pat McCabe of SIPTU by Tipp FM Radio
In this episode I speak with Pat McCabe, former corporate sports guy, turned educator/social working helping homeless and foster youth for the past couple decades. The best thing about Pat is his humility, generosity and being a real life, modern day "Mother Theresa" and he doesn't know it.
Pat McCabe, whose Navajo name is (Weyakpa Najin Win, Woman Stands Shining) is a Diné mother, grandmother, activist, artist, writer, ceremonial leader, and international speaker. She will be the Ceremonialist for SDI’s upcoming Conference in Santa Fe, New Mexico. In this podcast we introduce you to Pat, and learn a bit more about her. In our conversation, Pat describes what she refers to as "The Crisis of Relationship" – to ourselves, to each other, to the larger community of life, which lies at the root of so much that is disordered about the world right now. The work of healing begins with attuning to the spiritual laws of life that govern our being, our places, and our inter-being. Pat says indigenous cultures call these “Original Instructions” - and how those need to make themselves manifest across cultures. The thing about these Original Instructions is that they’re not written down. They’re meant to be known through lived experience, which requires listening, presence, and practice. --- Support for this week’s podcast comes from SDI’s upcoming contemplative writing retreat, called: Writing at the Edge of the World, June 15th through June 19th, 2020, on beautiful Orcas Island in Washington State, USA. Led by award-winning writer Tania Casselle, and NEA Fellow and Zen Teacher Sean Murphy, this retreat is designed to meet you wherever you are on your creative journey. You’ll leave with a notebook full of writing, and a fresh set of tools to invigorate your creative voice. Learn more on our homepage, sdiworld.org – and you’ll find the Writers Workshop in the homepage slider.
Today I'm happy to share my interview with Pat McCabe, an indigenous grandmother, activist, artist, and ceremonial leader. She is an international voice for global peace, and someone I seem to continually cross paths with at new paradigm gatherings around the world. I suppose we're following the same song lines. Recently on Facebook, I asked others to speak about the value of men's work, and Pat wrote an intriguing response where she named her own explorations into a “thriving life” paradigm - and a new narrative for the sacred masculine that is longing to be born. In this episode, I learn more about her personal journey with spirit, how she integrated her rage as a woman on this planet, and the deep prayer she holds for men to connect once again as functional members of the Hoop of Life. By the end of our conversation, both of us are in tears. I wish the same for you. In this podcast Fiona and Deni have a conversation around “How far are we will to go to create an unshakeable sisterhood?” This topic arose from a Soundcloud Recording of Pat McCabe, a Navajo grandmother and elder, talking about Indigenous Wisdom of the Feminine. In this podcast we will discuss: * How can healing our wounds with sisters create change on the planet and in the earth? * The pull to sisterhood and the fear and mistrust that can arise. * What the presence of love can do to transform and heal even in the stickiness and shadow. * Can we stay heart-opened in the discomfort? *Can we love the humanness of our ugly emotions such as jealousy and envy in circle with other women, and what does this shift for us? * Bringing the healing to the land * Revisiting childhood friendships and woundings – how this is surfacing for many at this time and how this can create change for our younger generations. * Loving our differences across, age, cultures and backgrounds. * The web and matrix of women's circles around the planet and the collective healing that is occurring. * The gifts of sitting in circle with elders. Reclaiming the feminine power and voice in our older years. * The owning of our power in our different ages and body cycles. * Finding a circle to sit in to work through sister wounding. Years ago, the National Park Service entered into public-private partnerships, leasing the historic structures to people who wanted to house a business in one of those buildings.
