How often do you operate at the intersection of urgency and happiness to pursue what you want most out of life? And how much are you missing out on when you push yet another goal to “tomorrow”? Figuring out how to take advantage of now, live life to the fullest, and use your time wisely: these are all strategies that our latest guest has written and spoken about. And now he's bringing them to the podcast. Scott White, The Life is Too Short Guy, is the happiest guy you will ever meet. After spending over a decade in investment banking on Wall Street, he took a chance and became an entrepreneur and business builder. Today, he is Chairman and CEO of a public real estate company. Now he's on a mission to make the world happier, one smile at a time. Tune into the full conversation for more on some of the core principles of Scott's book, why what you think in the morning is so important, how to avoid the most common regret that people on their deathbed have, and a lot more. Here's a Glimpse of What You'll Learn: Why Scott says careers are similar to marathons, plus some of the “twists and turns” that Scott has had, from law school to investment banking to being the CEO of a real estate company, to what he's doing now The two roles involved when it comes to running a publicly traded company More about the Life is Too Short Guy, and what story that persona helps Scott tell to the world What happens at the intersection of urgency and happiness The key principle behind Scott's book, and why it doesn't include telling people how to spend their time (plus the important paradigm shift that he *does* teach around how to spend time) The mental image that Scott gives people to help them understand how much time they have remaining in their life The biggest regret that people on their deathbed have Why Scott thinks the word “purpose” is overused — and how he helps people find their “passion” instead The simple mindset shift that Scott helps people implement to rethink how they wake up in the morning — and the impact that has on their overall attitude in life The power of recognizing how far you've come, instead of continually moving the goalposts and never reaching perfection or happiness Resources Mentioned in This Episode: The Life is Too Short Guy website “The Life is Too Short Guy: Strategies to Make Every Day the Best Day Ever” by Scott White Scott White on LinkedIn Scott White on Instagram “The Gap and The Gain: The High Achievers' Guide to Happiness, Confidence, and Success” by Dan Sullivan and Dr. Benjamin Hardy “The Happiness Advantage: How a Positive Brain Fuels Success in Work and Life” by Shawn Achor Buy a copy of “Lost at CEO: An Entrepreneur's Guide to Strategy” by Carl J. The Book Leads - Episode 69: & The Gift 12 Lessons to Save Your Life by Dr. Edith Eger In this episode, Corinne, shares both insights from Dr. Eger's book and how those insights have benefitted her in her own life -- one of traumatic experience, forgiveness, and growth. Having experienced that journey herself, she brings her energy for life and wisdom through experience and learning to her coaching clients and retreat guests to help them heal from their own adversity. Like Dr. Eger conveyed to her patients and implored in her book, Corinne also wants those she's helping to recognize the light that exists beyond hopelessness. We all need to heal in some way, shape, or form. It may not be apparent, obvious, and evident on the surface, so it may take some reflection to explore and understand the deep-rooted reasons why we feel -- or react to the world -- in a certain way. The takeaway from this conversation that resonates with me most is that of intentional evolution through victimhood -- and the ability and need to get beyond that vulnerable state. Don't get us wrong. As we state in the episode, it's important we feel those sensations. So, after we have fully experienced and felt what that source of pain has left behind, we must do the work to step beyond it and build from that remaining rubble and ash. CONVERSATION HIGHLIGHTS Healing is body-based. It has to be. Victimhood is a mental prison. Dr. Dan Siegel's Hand odel of the Brain No one at the end of their life has the regret that they laughed or loved too much. What the acronym R.A.I.N. stands for when it comes to self-compassion. Pink Man's Search for Meaning by Victor E. Frankl The MAIN QUESTION underlying my conversation with Corinne is, When you feel like a victim and you feel hopeless, what do (can) you see BEYOND those sensations? ABOUT CORINNE Corinne is a transformation expert serving women who experience challenging transitions – divorce, career change, empty nest, family estrangement, addiction and loss of a loved one. Through her uplifting energy, soothing demeanor, and extensive training in a mosaic of modalities – Internal Family Systems, Respectful Confrontation and Compassion-based therapies – Corinne guides women on a path of joy, connection and love, overcoming the pain of invisible loss. Because Corinne has experienced firsthand invisible loss and the power of healing in community, she leads intimate, small group retreat experiences in beautiful places all over the world as a foundation in creating the Healing the Heart Sisterhood. These intentional communities are comprised of women who are willing to do the deep soul work of Healing the Heart with vulnerability, compassion, and love. In addition to her coaching and retreats, Corinne has launched a weekly Mindfulness Class called Wisdom Wednesdays: Cultivating Calm for the Hurried Human, and that class began on September 20th. I was introduced to Corinne by Erin Harrigan, who I had as a guest in Episode 55 of the series in which we covered her book, Pursuing Success God's Way: A Practical Guide to Hustle With Heart. Self-care isn't selfish. It is necessary. We truly can't pour from an empty cup and we can't help others if we're emotionally worn, completely stressed out, or too sick to help. In this episode I'm talking about self-care and the five areas I've been trying to improve for the sake of myself, my family and my business. I'll talk about the importance of sleep, rest and exercise, for our physical and mental well-being. Then I'll dive into the effects of gratitude on our happiness. I'll also discuss how caring for others can be a form of self-care. Lastly, I'll cover caring for your time. Finding balance and reclaiming your time can have a lasting impact on your life and I'm going to share how it changed mine. My goal is to help you understand the importance of self-care and how to practice it, proactively, without feeling guilty. I hope you enjoy today's show. Show Highlights: What is self-care? I'll give you my favorite definition and share a great quote to help you remember why it's so important. I'm going to share the five key areas of self-care and give you tips for each area. I'll share my stories about those areas too. I can't stress enough the importance of being proactive with self-care. Our bodies speak to us, sometimes loud and clear. If we don't listen, the consequences can be devastating. We're talking about self-care but I'm also going to share how caring for others is a form of self-care. Self-care has a physical, mental and emotional impact on our lives, our bodies and on those around us. When Catherine joined this team, she was told by the previous Scrum Master that she should not bother with the “fluffy stuff”, as the team only wanted to “get on with the work”. As soon as she heard that, Catherine was alarmed, but also curious. A few weeks later, she knew what was going on. The team was a group of specialists, that had very deep, but narrow experience in the area they were working. This specialty-focus affected everything in the team, from the PO who had to choose work that fit the available specialist, to the motivation of the team, who felt bored and de-motivated when they did not have work for their specialty. In this segment, we talk about how Catherine approached the elephant in the room: the silos that were not allowing the team to perform! Featured Book of the Week: The Happiness Advantage by Shawn Achor In The Happiness Advantage: How a Positive Brain Fuels Success in Work and Life by Shawn Achor, Catherine found research that helped her understand the impact of a positive outlook can have on her work, and the teams she works with. Several years ago the Harvard Medical School's Department of Psychiatry published a study where they asked students to play Tetris for multiple hours a day. The result? Those students couldn't stop seeing Tetris pieces everywhere in their lives! We can harness this phenomenon to train our brains to see what we want to see. This will help us to be happier, and as a result, be more successful. Last week we heard from happiness expert Shawn Achor about how the lens we choose to view the world through can change not only our well-being, but those around us as well. In short, it's the power of a positive mindset. Today we continue the mindset talk with Shawn to help us find freedom in our thoughts and habits, and to train our brains to spot patterns of possibility—resulting in more opportunities and hope in our lives. This requires action, of course, so he includes four building blocks we can put into practice today to create change. Watch the full clip here. Bokrekommendationer- The Power of Paradox - Dacher Keltner . - The Happiness Advantage: How a Positive Brain Fuels Success in Work and Life - Shawn Achor - Gökmannen - Sture Dahlström#perspektivpoddenProducent: Jens Back. When it comes to health, we’re our own worst enemies. Whether it’s regularly exercising, eating healthy, making that doctor’s appointment you’ve been putting off, creating the changes necessary to reduce your stress and make you happier, we all know how life can get in the way. What I’ve found is that there are five key behaviors that will help you reach any goal. The more of these you can start doing in your life, the more energy you’ll have, and the happier you’ll be in all areas of your life. Self-care isn’t selfish. It is necessary. We truly can’t pour from an empty cup and we can’t help others if we’re emotionally worn, completely stressed out, or too sick to help. In this episode I’m talking about self-care and the five areas I’ve been trying to improve for the sake of myself, my family and my business. I’ll talk about the importance of sleep, rest and exercise, for our physical and mental well-being. Then I’ll dive into the effects of gratitude on our happiness. I’ll also discuss how caring for others can be a form of self-care. Lastly, I’ll cover caring for your time. Finding balance and reclaiming your time can have a lasting impact on your life and I’m going to share how it changed mine. My goal is to help you understand the importance of self-care and how to practice it, proactively, without feeling guilty. I hope you enjoy today’s show. Show Highlights: What is self-care? I’ll give you my favorite definition and share a great quote to help you remember why it’s so important. I’m going to share the five key areas of self-care and give you tips for each area. I’ll share my stories about those areas too. I can’t stress enough the importance of being proactive with self-care. Our bodies speak to us, sometimes loud and clear. If we don’t listen, the consequences can be devastating. We’re talking about self-care but I’m also going to share how caring for others is a form of self-care. Self-care has a physical, mental and emotional impact on our lives, our bodies and on those around us. Resources:King University Online Paycor, Inc. Paycor, Inc. Self-Care for the HR Pro web summit presentation by Jennifer McClure Paycor, Inc. Web Summit (On Demand) What is self-care? Self-care is any activity that we do deliberately in order to take care of our mental, emotional, and physical health. Although it’s a simple concept in theory, it’s something we often overlook. Welcome to this episode of The Riadi Club Podcast. In this episode of the Riadi Club podcast, we share some very simple tools that will allow you to be fully present. As entrepreneurs we’re often preoccupied by a long to-do list or things that are creating stress in our business. Sometimes, we love what we do so much that we are always thinking about work. Daoud Kakish shares the three tools that he uses to keep himself focused at work while also freeing him to be present outside of work. In this episode, you’ll learn: What makes entrepreneurs different and why do they find it hard to be in the present? Most entrepreneurs are not stuck in the past, rather they’re highly focused on the future. If you're highly focused on the future, it's easy to get overwhelmed by all the options People who are truly “present” are some of the most fulfilled people we know How “buffer time” at the end of each day lets you wrap up and check out A “get it out of your head” document lets you use your brain for thinking instead of storing Why it’s important to check out instead of check-in More information Visit our website to learn more about this podcasts and others in our series at www.riadi.me The Charge: Activating the 10 Human Drives that Make You Feel Alive by Brendon Burchard The Happiness Advantage: How a Positive Brain Fuels Success in Work and Life by Shawn Achor Getting Things Done: The art of Stress-Free Productivity by David Allen Thanks for Tuning In! Healthy and engaged employees, in concert with a strong Growth Mindset workplace culture, are the secret sauce for business success. When it comes to performance, it's no surprise that the right mindset is critical to success. Today we're going to talk with Dave Buzanko about how you can leverage a growth mindset to level up your results. Dave is a Growth Mindset Strategist with over three decades of Marketing and Communication experience across many industries, including Banking, Retail, Wellness and Learning. In this episode, we talk about: His wellness journey, Missed leadership opportunities, How Leadership styles evolved over the years, Leading your immediate circle of influence, Growth vs Fixed mindsets, How to develop a growth mindset, the five pillars of growth, and a lot more. Click that play button to listen, and don't forget to rate us on iTunes! Leading your Inner Circle To me, I always think, “I lead my family, my friends, and my co-workers around me.” I don't lead thousands of people; I know that we can only manage so many relationships, so I try to focus on the ones that are closest to me. If I can teach those people how to care for the people in their charge, then my job as a leader is to pass that knowledge on. That's how I approach leadership today. It's Who's in my immediate circle of influence? What can I teach them? How can I teach them? How can I be the leader that they hope that I would be so that when they run into a tough situation, not only do they not feel embarrassed or ashamed or scared to speak up and say “I don't have the answers,” but they're willing to speak up and say, “I need your help”? What is a growth mindset? A person who has a Growth Mindset is somebody who is open to learning and improving their skill sets, while somebody with a fixed mindset believes that they're born with a certain set of skills; they can't improve upon those skills so they spend their lives measuring those skills and competing against each other, trying to define what they can do, but believing that there's a limit to it. In business and in life, we can easily be fooled into thinking that we are what we create for ourselves and we are nothing more. The Five Pillars of Growth For me, to make things actionable, I actually have five pillars of growth mindsets, and they're based on five of the best scientific books. Life isn't meant to be happy all the time. But if you work on it just a little, you'll tip the scales in your own favor. This episode talks about how happiness comes from our thoughts-- not from external circumstances. And since we can control our thoughts, we can access more happiness in our lives in simple ways. This isn't about chasing away negative thoughts or chasing after positive ones-- it's about ending the chase altogether.
