This week, Benjamin drives the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV, a mainstream offering found on the same Ultium platform as many other high end EVs like the Acura ZDX and Cadillac Lyriq. Benjamin discusses his experience in the Chevy, and compares it to other popular mainstream options like the the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Nissan Ariya and VW ID.4. The pair also discuss whether GM is on track or not in this highly competitive segment. Then Sami checks out the 2025 Kia Carnival Hybrid, which swaps out the V6 from the gas model for a hybrid powertrain boasting nearly 50 percent better fuel efficiency, without much of a compromise. But is this upgraded Carnival a big deal in the minivan market? How does it compare to the Toyota Sienna, Chrysler Pacifica and Honda Odyssey? Sami discusses it all on this week's episode. Thanks for listening!!

Shoot us a Text.As we wind down on another week, we're looking at August's EV numbers and the gains by GM. Plus, we talk about the NHTSA's investigation into Full Self Driving, and how Rivian is re-skinning its R1s for spooky season.Show Notes with links:General Motors' latest electric vehicles, combined with Tesla's Cybertruck, significantly contributed to an 18% increase in U.S. EV registrations in August year over year.U.S. EV registrations hit 111,952, accounting for 8.6% of the light-vehicle market, up from 7.5% the previous year.GM's new Equinox EV and Blazer EV made the top 10 EV models, helping Chevrolet place as the #3 EV brand in August, up from #7 in May. Tesla and Ford were #1 and #2.Tesla remains the leader in EV sales but saw its market share drop to 46% as legacy brands like GM, Honda, and Kia close in.Generous leasing offers and incentives are boosting EV sales, although concerns remain about their impact on profitability.“It's basically impossible for Tesla not to lose market share as new EV models stream into the marketplace,” said Ed Kim, AutoPacific's chief analyst. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened an investigation into 2.4 million Tesla vehicles equipped with Full Self-Driving software after reported crashes in low-visibility conditions. The probe involves Tesla models from 2016-2024, including Model S, X, 3, Y, and the 2023-2024 Cybertruck.Crashes occurred under conditions like sun glare, fog, or airborne dust, with one fatal crash involving a pedestrian.Tesla has a "camera-only" approach to FSD, compared to rivals who use radar and lidar. The investigation adds pressure as Tesla focuses on self-driving technology, robotaxis, and new concepts like the "Cybercab."Tesla has not commented on the investigation.Rivian is bringing some Halloween fun to its R1 vehicles with a set of “Car Costumes,” allowing owners to transform their EVs into iconic movie rides or spooky-themed designs.Owners can choose from "Knight Rider" KITT, the "Back to the Future" Time Machine, or a "Haunted Rivian" costume.Features include themed lighting, sound effects, and interactive display changes.New Halloween-themed modes also include ghostly reskins for drive modes, zombies on pedestrian sensors, and spooky sounds.Rivian's fun-filled update goes live on October 18, offering a whimsical break from the usual serious auto industry.Hosts: Paul J Daly and Kyle MountsierGet the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/ Read our most recent email at: https://www.asotu.com/media/push-back-email

The Automotive Troublemaker w/ Paul J Daly and Kyle Mountsier
Just another EV Monday! The weekend was a bit light for automotive news, but GM is bringing back the Blazer EV, Rivian handed out Steve Jobs style surprises, and Marques Brownlee threw shade on the Ocean.General Motors reignites the electric vehicle (EV) market by resuming Chevrolet Blazer EV sales at reduced prices, addressing past software glitches with significant updates and improvements.GM halted Chevrolet Blazer EV sales in December due to infotainment and fast charging issues, but now confidently resumes with software enhancements and a price cut.The updates include new features like customizable ambient lighting and a battery percentage display, with existing owners needing dealership visits for software upgrades.Despite not pinpointing a singular fault, GM emphasizes improved quality testing and software processes to avoid future issues.Price reductions across various Blazer EV trims aim to boost sales, alongside eligibility for a $7,500 federal tax credit.EV startup Fisker faces backlash after a failed attempt to mitigate criticism from tech reviewer Marques Brownlee, exposing deeper financial woes.Marques Brownlee's scathing review of Fisker's Ocean SUV has gone viral, amassing over 4.3 million views for highlighting numerous design and software issues.Brownlee originally asked Fisker for a vehicle, but they kept delaying, resulting in the Youtuber borrowing a vehicle from J&S Mitsubishi. The EV maker asked Brownlee to wait until the car could receive the 2.0 software update, but he declined."It's not really in my policy to wait on promised future software updates,'" Brownlee said in the YouTube video. "I'm going to review the car that's out now, that real buyers are actually living with." The title of the video is “This is the Worst Car I've Ever Reviewed.”A supposed senior Fisker engineer's call to the dealership loaning Brownlee the car backfired, with a recording by the dealership revealing software problems persist post-update, attracting 3.6+ million views on TikTok.Amidst the PR disaster, Fisker announces financial instability, casting doubt on the company's future viability.Channeling their inner Steve Jobs, Rivian had “one more thing” during its R2 reveal event. The EV maker introduced the R3 and R3X, a sportier and slightly shorter electric SUV than the R2, catching the audience by surprise. Rivian's approach to the R3 showcases a strategic expansion of its electric vehicle lineup, emphasizing design, performance, and affordability. The R3 aims to offer a more compact package than the R2, targeting a lower price point than the $45K R2, though specifics were not immediately disclosed. With a sleek design featuring sloping rear ends, the R3 and R3X promise over 300 miles of range and rapid acceleration, positioning them as direct competitors to Korean EVs like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6.Hosts: Paul J Daly and Kyle MountsierGet the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/ Read our most recent email at: https://www.asotu.com/media/push-back-email ASOTU Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/automotivestateoftheunion
Tom and guest host Paul Herrold of the Sons of Speed covered a number of topics this week. First, the hosts addressed the surprise Rivian reveal of not one, but two, small crossovers last week, both of which are scheduled to be built at the maker's existing Illinois facility. Both will be much more affordable than Rivian's current offerings. Also, the Chevrolet Blazer EV is back in production, this after a stop-sale was ordered by the brand as a result of software issues. Listen for details regarding the Blazer's return to production, and significant price cuts. Still in the first segment, Paul shared the scoop on a pair of excellent Sons of Speed-produced “The Lap” videos, one featuring a collectible Dodge Challenger, the other a rather rare—and high-performance—Mercedes-AMG product. In the second segment, the hosts welcome Randy Dale of Nissan to the program. Randy walked Tom and Paul through the updates to the 2024 Nissan Sentra, which Tom feels has become a far better vehicle—and a great value. The 2024 Blazer EV is the first Chevrolet vehicle on General Motors' new Ultium electric platform, which is shared by the Honda Prologue EV and Cadillac Lyriq. We offer our first impressions of the new Blazer, including its driving dynamics, build quality, and why GM ordered dealers to stop selling it. We also discuss the future of internal combustion engines and whether or not EVs will dominate the car market in the next decade. Also, we debate whether the 2025 Toyota Camry hybrid is worth the wait, or is the recently updated 2024 Honda Accord hybrid. This week, the Unnamed Automotive Podcast welcomes guest Chad Kirchner from EVPulse, which means a great and fun discussion of electric vehicles. Our guest arrives following his test drive of the highly anticipated 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV. Available with three different drive configurations (front-, rear, or all-wheel-drive) but no Android Auto or Apple CarPlay support, the Blazer has a lot of questions to answer, and Chad has the answers ready. Then Benjamin reviews the 2024 Buick Envista, a budget friendly, premium crossover that has surprised many critics. Is he among the converts? What makes this small car draw so many headlines, and will it help reverse the brand image associated with Buick? Benjamin has a lot to say on the matter! Then the guys discuss Chad's recent Great Lakes Challenge, before going off on a tangent about junk food. Be sure to hear the whole discussion and then send us your feedback at our website or socials. Thanks for listening!

The all-new Chevrolet Blazer EV is rolling out. It will be a 2024 model year. And it's come a long, long way. First hitting the market in 1969, to say the nameplate has come a long way is an understatement. ⇒ Martin Chevy is an iDriveSoCal Official Chevrolet Dealer Because that Blazer was a short-wheelbase truck with a factory cab - more or less. But a little more than five decades later and Blazer has experienced a transformation. The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer electric vehicle is a super-stylish, zero-tailpipe emission, midsize SUV people hauler. And it's capable of doing some serious hauling. Clocking a zero to 60 mph time in under 4 seconds. As estimated by Chevy. 2024 Chevrolet Blazer SS EV @ LA Auto Show Overview - What We Know So Far Aside from being quick and super-stylish, Chevy's let a lot of info out. While there's on the way. Here's what we've got to date. For the first time that we're aware of, an EV is being released with any drive configuration. Including front-wheel, rear-wheel or all-wheel drive options! GM is estimating up to 320 miles of range on a full charge. Plus nearly 30 inches of digital display across the cockpit. Chevrolet is offering a trim for every price range and associated feature set. Providing ample customization of your Chevy Blazer EV. Including push-button-free auto start. Plus automatic lift gate access. One-pedal and Super Cruise hands-free driving. Worth noting, but not available to the public, is the Police Pursuit Vehicle. That's taking the top-level SS trim to a civic-duty level. So it's best to connect with a dealer. And that's to identify and order your Blazer EV. As well as determine exactly when it will be ready. Electric Motor, Power, And Performance While not all the stats are being reported by Chevy for each of the trims. The bow tie brand is releasing some impressive numbers for the 2024 Blazer EV. The top trim SS, Super Sport, trim delivers 557 horsepower with 648 pound-feet of torque. And that's with AWD. Additionally, it's the SS trim that times 0 to 60 mph in less than 4 seconds. Braking from that acceleration is just as important. So the SS Chevy Blazer EV adds Brembo performance brakes in the front. Drivetrains Here's one of the truly interesting areas of Blazer EV. Power can come from anywhere. It's being based on trim. 1LT - FWD only. 2LT - FWD standard, AWD optional RS - FWD or RWD standard, AWD optional. SS - AWD only. The all-new Chevrolet Blazer EV also offers Regen Braking. And that converts kinetic energy from the vehicle's forward momentum into electricity. Helping to maximize range. While also allowing one-pedal driving. Whereas, when engaged, Blazer EV can come to a complete stop by fully releasing the accelerator pedal. Up to 320 miles of range Range and Charging - 2024 Chevy Blazer EV Your driving distance on a single charge varies by trim. For example, that 320-mile range comes with the RS trim. While the higher-performing SS trim delivers 290 miles on a full charge. Then the 1LT and 2LT trims provide 247 and 293 miles of range respectively. So all this range comes from different levels of charging. There is 11.5 kW level 2 charging and up to 190 kW public DC fast charging. Blazer EVs have the capability to fast charge through DC high-speed units. Adding 78 miles of range in just 10 minutes. A cool feature that caught our attention is a Blazer EV charging feature....

It's unknown if this is closer to a Blazer EV or a Chevrolet Equinox EV - or maybe neither - as there is no official announcement. Popular Now: Red Dead Redemption franchise sales break 70 million The vehicle could be riding on 20"" wheels wrapped with Michelin e-Primacy tires - and features a tri-bar third brake light. Most likely, the vehicle will run using the GM Ultium EV platform, centered around a flexible battery architecture. GM promotes Ultium as a robust technology with cells that can support vehicles of all shapes and sizes - with the cells stored vertically for SUVs, trucks, and crossovers, or horizontally-stacked cells for cars high performance-vehicles. 3 Buick invites auto fans to ""dream with us"" as the automaker prepares for an electric future: Buick expects to have a fully-electric future by 2030, which fits with GM's effort towards a zero-emission, all-electric product lineup in the future. To help Buick move forward, GM filed trademarks earlier this year for Electra E1 through E9, as the company apparently plans a full range of Buick EV models at some point later down the road. Expect a handful of different Buick EVs to be unveiled with the Electra moniker for all the auto brand's electric efforts. A Buick EV crossover was spotted during road testing in China last month, and this prototype seems to be the same - with wheel design and other features appearing identical. What cars do their drivers like the most? We'll have the answers for you in our in-depth look at the J.D. Power 2022 APEAL Study. The J.D. Power U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout Study measures owners' emotional attachment and level of excitement with their new vehicle. This year the recently launched Kia EV6 compact SUV and Mercedes-Benz EQS large premium car were two battery-electric vehicles that topped their respective segments. But the vast majority of segment leaders in emotional appeal are conventional gasoline-powered cars, trucks, vans, and SUVs. The Jeep Wagoneer UV, Jeep Grand Wagoneer premium SUV, Kia Carnival minivan, and Hyundai Santa Cruz midsize pickup were newcomers to the market that top their segments. Consumer excitement with their vehicles actually fell this year, breaking a streak of increases that dates back to 2014. It is only the fifth time in the 27-year history of the study that consumer excitement with their vehicles declined year over year. And we'll have more, including information on how Tesla owners feel about their cars. In this week's road test segment, host Jack Nerad will give his take on the new, cutting-edge 2023 Genesis GV60. It's the first dedicated electric vehicle from the Genesis brand. The GV60's new-as-tomorrow features include facial and fingerprint recognition. Plus the vehicle actually has a crystal ball. Also in the road test segment, Co-Host Chris Teague went truckin' crazy in the substantially new 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X. The full-size pickup truck is designed to slug it out off-road, and Teague and Nerad will offer their opinions of it in this episode. Our special guests this week are Brian Kursar, group vice president, Digital Technology at Toyota Motor North America, and Simon Roberts, Managing Engineer - Cabin Awareness at Toyota Connected North America. Toyota has been improving its infotainment systems by leaps and bounds recently, and we'll discuss how they've been able to accomplish that with them. In the news, Chevrolet just introduced an all-new Blazer EV that promises to be blazing fast. We were there for the unveiling and will tell you all about it. And Honda has unleashed the newest Civic Type R, so we'll tell you all about that too. All this and more in this episode of America on the Road.

Sami and Benjamin have returned from their vacations with plenty of stories to tell. First the two catch up with all the cool cars and sights during their travels, with Ben reflecting on a certain era of vehicle that stands out in his mind after an unusual old school Honda Pilot encounter. Then the pair dive into a conversation about the new 2022 Kia EV6, an all-electric car that's mechanically similar to the Hyundai IONIQ 5, but with different styling and, somehow, more range. Benjamin describes his experience in vivid detail and explains why the EV6 nets 20 more miles on the EPA test cycle, along with the car's fatal flaw. You'll definitely want to hear whether or not you should pick one up over the similar IONIQ. Then the two talk about some news that's been burning through automotive circles. Cadillac has been caught trying to get buyers of its new Lyriq EV to sign an NDA, which caught the attention of NHTSA, which relies on owner information and reports to determine safety concerns. Then the guys talk about the weird new Toyota Crown, which sports a body style that defies convenvention, along with why you would ever design a car that offered FWD, RWD, and AWD in the same package. All that and more inside jokes and pure car talk can be found in this week's episode, so be sure to listen! Also consider sending us a review, or some feedback, since we love to hear from our listeners!

Show #1400 Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily, you trusted source of information. It's Thursday 10th March, it's Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. 2024 CHEVY BLAZER EV WILL HAVE AN SS PERFORMANCE VARIANT - Chevrolet's Blazer crossover is going electric for the 2024 model year with the launch of the Blazer EV and a teaser video released today indicates a performance-oriented SS trim will be part of the lineup - The Blazer follows an onslaught of other electric vehicle announcements from General Motors, including the GMC Hummer EV and Chevy Silverado EV pickup trucks, all of which use the company's Ultium battery technology. - Earlier this year, Chevrolet revealed the first images of the Equinox EV, an electric SUV sharing the name of the company's popular compact crossover. - Chevy says that the Blazer will be the company's first EV to gain a performance SS badge when it debuts later this year. - The Blazer SS will go on sale in spring of 2023 Original Source : https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a39384135/2024-chevy-blazer-ev-ss-performance-variant/ CHEVY TEASES ITS FIRST PERFORMANCE ELECTRIC VEHICLE, THE 2024 BLAZER EV SS - The automaker revealed little about the Blazer at CES, though, preferring instead to share details about the Equinox. Set to go on sale with an MSRP of around $30,000, the compact Equinox SUV will be a bargain by EV standards. Despite that, big screens and fancy technology will still be present, suggesting that Chevrolet is taking its transition to electric vehicles seriously. Bidirectional charging capabilities offer a higher level of electric resiliency and less reliability on the grid, especially during peak times. - The pilot includes the use of bidirectional hardware that's paired with software-defined communications protocols that will enable power to flow from a charged EV battery into a customer's home. The software will automatically coordinate between the EV, home and PG&E's electric supply from the street. - The pilot will test bidirectional power technology with multiple GM EVs. - Last month, Ford announced a partnership with San Francisco-based Sunrun, a provider of residential solar panels and home batteries that allows Ford F-150 Lightning owners to use their truck's substantial battery reserves as a home's emergency power source. - To use Ford's Intelligent Backup Power, customers will need to install the Ford Charge Station Pro and Home Integration System, which includes a power inverter plus a dark start battery and transfer switch, enabling two-way power flow between the home and vehicle. This caused the computer to think the car still had 10% of range left when in reality the main battery was already at 0%. - When the main battery died, the 12V Li-Ion battery was also dying Original Source : https://driveteslacanada.ca/software-updates/tesla-deploys-emergency-software-update-2022-4-5-12-to-calibrate-lfp-batteries TESLA CONFIRMS DELIVERIES OF GERMAN-BUILT MODEL YS ARE STARTING ON MARCH 22 - Tesla has confirmed that deliveries of Model Y vehicles built at Gigafactory Berlin in Germany are starting on March 22. - Last week, after months of delays, Tesla finally received its official building permit following the environmental approval of its Gigafactory Berlin project. - However, the approval was conditional on about 400 different conditions that the automaker needed to confirm. Surprisingly, German officials said at the time that they expected Tesla to fulfill all those conditions within the next two weeks. - March 22 will mark an important step for Tesla by starting deliveries of European-made vehicles and putting it on a path of better logistical efficiency. This would allow the public water supply to be maintained, the Ministry of the Environment told the DPA. - On Friday evening, the Administrative Court of Frankfurt (Oder) had declared the water permit issued in 2020 “unlawful and unenforceable”. - In a first reaction, the Straußberg-Erkner Water Association (WSE) had demanded that the state tolerate the water pumping until the procedure was made up for. - However, the 1.4 million cubic metres of water actually contractually guaranteed by the WSE for Tesla would only be needed when the carmaker in Grünheide has actually reached its full capacity of 500,000 cars per year. When that will be the case is still unclear. The situation is worst in Europe, where the customers rely on Giga Shanghai production allocation. In the case of Model 3 RWD and LR AWD, the estimated delivery time to Germany has jumped to February 2023. This is just shy of a full year away. - This is true for the customers in Germany, France, and United Kingdom. The waiting time is significantly longer than what people in the North American market are facing. For American customers, the same vehicles are promised to be delivered in May 2022, while the Canadians have to wait until August 2022.
