China is the world's largest energy consumer and carbon emitter, accounting for one-third of global CO2 emissions. One of its biggest sources of emissions is coal, which plays a central role in China's economy. At the same time, however, China is the world's leading supplier of renewable energy, largely due to significant government investments in green technologies, including solar manufacturing, batteries, and minerals. In September 2020, China's leader Xi Jinping announced the goal of achieving peak CO2 emissions before 2030 and carbon neutrality before 2060.” This ambitious pledge, if realized, will be an important step in global efforts to limit global warming. In the past few years, the increasingly competitive and fraught relationship between the United States and China has spilled into the climate domain, threatening the potential for both countries to work together to address climate change. That is the topic of a recent commentary co-authored by Margaret Pearson and Michael Davidson. The paper is titled, “Where are the US and China on addressing climate change?”, and it can be found on the Brookings Institution website. In this episode of China Global, host Bonnie Glaser speaks with one of the authors, Michael Davidson, who is an assistant professor at the School of Global Policy and Strategy and the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department of the Jacobs School of Engineering at the University of California San Diego. The Eastern and Western halves of Washington can seem like two different states; one dry and pastoral, the other overcast and lush. Rob Joynes is a singer-songwriter who's music captures these two contrasting landscapes. Raised on the East side of the Cascade Mountain Range, Joynes often invokes his home town of Spokane directly in his lyrics. Pairing themes of queer identity, abjection, family and aging with piano driven melodies and sentimental guitar riffs influenced by artists like Red House Painters, Jason Molina, Carissa's Wierd and Kath Bloom. Joynes presently resides in Seattle and contributes to bands Sunnyland and Fell Off. robjoynes.bandcamp.com felloff.bandcamp.com sunnyland.bandcamp.com IG : @rob_joynes
i hate the way wearing a mask makes an indentation in my beard. and then my beard looks weird until i shower and brush it out. and so sometimes i’ve not been wearing a mask indoors. like, when i know i’m going to be inside the store for a short time i just go without. but i’ve been thinking about how dumb that is. the vanity part. but like, being vain about something that i’m sure other people find gross hahaha. it doesn’t make sense. so i’ve been thinking about trimming my beard and keeping it trimmed. this probably seems trivial to you, but it feels like a big decision to me. i’ve had a full natural for like 18 years. that’s half my life. but if it’s causing me to take risks, then maybe it’s worth a trim?DOWNLOAD/STREAM RECORDING00:00 (intro by omar)00:20 Sylvia Wrath “today, for now” really big picture03:28 Thunder Thighs “Lucky” Sugar08:48 Karen Meat “I Made You a Card” Meat Your Heart Out11:08 Karl Blau “Gone With The Wind” If There Is A Guard Above14:30 Soursob “Gizmo” Soursob EP17:05 SCULLY “You Warm Me” Encounters20:20 Celestial Shore “Not Dummy” Sunnyland22:48 cal fish “Boom Cat” Sound States for Myssi28:48 Dale “Rotating Speed Wheels of Doom on a Metal Frame” Suffocated by the Putrid Stench of Friendship29:30 Honey Oat “Wonder In Sights” Honey Oat32:27 Planted “Mariah” Mystic Daisy35:42 Oh Foot “Argonautica” MYTHOS38:58 Land N Sea “Jet Plane” Mid Drift41:58 Lauren Abineri “Home Song” Everything That I’ve Stolen46:26 Jeremy Wuan “MORE THAN PROBABLY” WHOLE WORLD SINGS48:32 Scoutmaster “december” winter ache50:05 Petrillo “Sweet and Tasty” Ding-a-ling52:38 DARK THOUGHTS “Do You Dream” MUST BE NICE53:56 Wednesday “Winn-Dixie” yep definitely56:48 TAWINGS “Suisen” TAWINGS

“Blues for Sunnyland" Von Freeman: Live At The Dakota (Premonition Records, 2001) Von Freeman, Bobby Peterson, Terry Burns, Phil Hey. Have you ever experienced the “fully loaded Cadillac” of the nut world before? Alex Willson of Sunnyland Farms and his family have built their business upon selling just that since 1948. Their high-quality nuts, dried fruits, and gifts have been transforming chefs creations, office gifts, and the kitchens of home bakers for 3 generations. To do this, they’ve had to separate themselves from the pack. With nuts, competition is everywhere: every grocery, Walmart, and corner store sells them. Yet as Alex explains, Sunnyland has been able to differentiate themselves in two critical ways, and it’s made all the difference. This episode is chock full of insight and inspiration for pastry and savory chefs alike, as well as any farmer or producer wondering how to differentiate and grow their business and margins in commodity-driven industries. Listen in to find out what’s shaking at Sunnyland Farms, learn more at www.Sunnylandfarms.com, and follow them on social media @sunnylandfarms.
A New York native, Robert Horn studied Theater at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and New York's Circle in the Square Theater School. Soon after, he left for Los Angeles to pursue a writing career in film and television that has spanned over 30 years. His first break came as a writer/producer on the iconic television series "Designing Women", followed by the groundbreaking Fox series "Living Single", and the irreverent CBS comedy "High Society". Mr. Horn was then signed to an overall production deal with Warner Brothers Studios, where he developed, wrote, and Executive Produced dozens of network pilots and/or series. He then signed a multi-year script deal at Sony Studios, followed by an overall pilot deal at ABC Studios. He, along with television veteran Bob Boyett, wrote and created the FX Series Partners, one of the few 10/90 deals made in the early 2000's. He has written projects for many numerous broadcast, cable, and platform networks, including as the musical pilot Car Wash with Will Packer, The Jenni Rivera Show for Latin superstar Jenni Rivera, the pilot Sunnyland for TBS starring Jennifer Hudson, Left of Center developed with TV veteran Gail Berman, and Taxi 22 at HBO, starring James Gandolfini. Mr. Horn also wrote musical movies such as "Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure", the next of the High School Musical series, followed by the hugely popular "Teen Beach Movie" franchise for Disney. Along with his television credits, Mr. Horn has written such diverse projects as "Wildlife" for Walt Disney Feature Animation, the Charlie Sheen feature film "Good Advice", "The RuPaul Christmas Special" for the BBC, and "Revenge", a digital musical series co-written with Jason Robert Brown for Sony's digital Crackle network, and contributed to Bette Midler's world tour, Divine Intervention. Theatrically, Mr. Horn has written the books for "Dame Edna, Back With A Vengeance" which opened at Broadway's Music Box theatre in 2004; "Lone Star Love", the Red Clay Rambler musical which premiered at the 5th Avenue Theater in Seattle; the Jason Robert Brown musical "13" which premiered at the Goodspeed Opera House in Goodspeed, Conn and opened at the Jacobs Theater in New York; the musical "Moonshine, that Hee Haw Musical", with Brandy Clark and Shane McAnnally, which opened at the Dallas Theater Center, and the Broadway musical Tootsie, collaborating with David Yazbek. In this episode, Robert shares his one way ticket back to 1970s New York City, with the opening of A Chorus Line on July 25, 1975 as the starting point. Along the way, Robert reflects on everything from going to Studio 54 with Shirley Jones to picking up trash for pay in Bryant Park. Plus, Robert talks all about creating Tootsie the musical (which we highly recommend!). Robert is just one of the dynamic guests featured on The One Way Ticket Show, where Host Steven Shalowitz explores with his guests where they would go if given a one way ticket, no coming back! Destinations may be in the past, present, future, real, imaginary or a state of mind. Steven's guests have included: Nobel Peace Prize Winner, President Jose Ramos-Horta; Legendary Talk Show Host, Dick Cavett; Law Professor, Alan Dershowitz; Fashion Expert, Tim Gunn; Broadcast Legend, Charles Osgood; International Rescue Committee President & CEO, David Miliband; Playwright, David Henry Hwang; Journalist-Humorist-Actor, Mo Rocca; SkyBridge Capital Founder & Co-Managing Partner, Anthony Scaramucci; Abercrombie & Kent Founder, Geoffrey Kent; Travel Expert, Pauline Frommer, as well as leading photographers, artists, chefs, writers, intellectuals and more.
