Ivanna Ihekwoaba is a Nigerian-born actor, spoken word poet, and filmmaker based in Vancouver. Ivanna created her debut short film "Who We Are", under the under the Reel Youth Black Brilliance program, in partnership with Telus StoryHive. She can be seen playing the role of Esther in the award-winning short film “Esther & Sai”, inspired by a true story. As a filmmaker, her work focuses on raw and vulnerable storytelling, with a spotlight on mental health and self-expression. Ivanna is also an alumni of the VIFF Catalyst Mentorship Program 2023 cohort. She is currently in post-production on a documentary about Black poets in Vancouver, through the Fabienne Colas Foundation and Netflix's “Being Black in Canada” program. Join us on this episode full of laughter as we reminisce about growing up with movies from the Nigerian film industry also known as Nollywood; their impact in our lives, our society and how they offer a sense of grounding and connection between African immigrants in the diaspora and our culture and people back home. She worked as an assistant on A&E's Ruby Laundry Series and as a script/clearances coordinator on Netflix's Emmy-nominated MAID. She currently lives in Victoria, BC and working as a drama teacher for middle school students who make her laugh every day!

Nikki is a doctoral fellow at the Center for Religion and Society at the University of Victoria and a board member with the BC Women's Hospital and Sierra Club BC. She designed and directed the first-ever Indigenous Storyteller edition with Telus STORYHIVE; a project to provide funding and mentorship for 30 emerging Indigenous filmmakers in BC and Alberta. In May of 2020, Nikki's first book, an anthology of the Salish Sea Resident Orca whales was released by the Royal BC Museum publisher. As an Indigenous media maker, Nikki's most recent project is the 8-part documentary VICELAND series “RISE” focused on global Indigenous resurgence. RISE debuted at Sundance in February 2017 and has received global critical acclaim, recently winning "best documentary" at the Canadian screen awards. Nikki is a TEDx speaker, her recent presentation is entitled “Decolonization is for Everyone”. She has been a wilderness guide and environmental educator in the Nuu-chah-nulth territory of Clayoquot Sound for over 10 years, where she was mentored by Nuu-chah-nulth elders Tsahsiits and Qaamina Sam. She is the creator and director of "Decolonize Together" a collective of Indigenous and Black women who offer decolonial and inclusivity workshops and curriculum creation. They combined their individual talents and skills along with National Screen Institute training to produce two short documentaries;  NDNs on the Airwaves about Six Nations radio (APTN 2016), Moving Voice, a Telus STORYHIVE sponsored digital broadcast 2019 featuring the travels of literary trailblazer and Mohawk poetess E. Last summer, we had the opportunity to sit down and chat with the Vancouver-based filmmaker duo, Kent Donguines and Maxime Beauchamp at Dancinema’s Cascadia Dance and Cinema Festival. In this interview, we learn about Kent and Maxime’s career, their collection of films, and upcoming projects that inspire them to think outside the box with their filmmaking.KENT DONGUINES is a Filipino-Canadian filmmaker based in Vancouver, BC.  Kent is one of the finalists of the 2017 WFF Power Pitch Competition, 2019 Telus Storyhive-Banff Fellowship Program and 2020 HotDocs Doc Accelerator Program. He has produced numerous short films that have been recognized in local and international film festivals such as the Whistler Film Festival, Vancouver International Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival. Kent has also worked as a Production Manager for Cedar Island Films Inc. and has worked with companies like Telus Storyhive, CBC, Black Cap Pictures (Ten17p), Viva Entertainment and Star Cinema. Spencer Streichert is an actor (of stage and screen), producer, stunt man, and comedian, of Metis, German and Nordic descent, living in Calgary, AB. Growing up performing in community theatre and rodeoing, he began his film career in 2012 shadowing stunt coordinator Daniel Skene on the sci-fi thriller "Stranded". After moving to Calgary in 2014, he began to learn various filmmaking techniques through NUTV, and studied acting & creative writing at the University of Calgary. Spencer has independently recorded and released 3 stand-up comedy albums, was a Canadian Comedy Award nominee in 2018, and is a 6x Best of Calgary nominee (Best Comedian 2018/2019, Best Actor & Best Filmmaker 2019/2020 ). He has been a team member on 2 Telus Storyhive funded digital shorts "Lust in the Time of Heartache"(2014) and "Red Water Valley"(2018). In 2019 Spencer produced "A Goog Night Sleeps" which just began its festival run at the Varese International Film Festival, and directed an experimental short "Emote" Which began its festival run with the Lift-Off First Time Filmmakers Sessions. Spencer is also a festival director and co-founder of the Quarantine International Film Festival (QIFF) which was started on March 13th, 2020 as a way for filmmakers from around the globe to stay creative in self Isolation, and has quickly grown to be a favourite among filmmakers world-wide. Nikki Iyolo Sanchez has been a wilderness guide and environmental educator in the Nuu-chah-nulth territory of Clayoquot Sound for over 10 years, and  is currently overseeing the first ever Indigenous Storyteller edition with Telus STORYHIVE; a project to provide funding and mentorship for  emerging Indigenous filmmakers in BC and Alberta. All of this while she pursues a PhD with a research focus on emerging visual media technology as it relates to Indigenous ontology.
