Like all great spinoffs, the Toyota Supra has created its own story over the last 45 years. Once a variant of the Celica, and then a hero car in one of a movie that would launch a multi-billion-dollar franchise, the Toyota Supra name carries a lot of gravitas. That's ignoring its racing pedigree in Super GT, on drag strips, and more. Honoring the Supra's 45th birthday, the folks at Toyota churned out 900 limited-edition examples of the 3.0-liter-powered Supra. Not officially linked to the Fast and Furious film franchise, the company does hint that it's inspired by a custom MkIV Toyota Supra that appeared on the big screen. El enfoque será en lo que Toyota nos ofrece con esta fórmula que ya no goza de tanto éxito en el mercado y por la cual casi ninguna marca apuesta. Se quiere continuar con un agradecimiento a Toyota, por seguir apostando por estos coches y, además, dedicarle ediciones especiales como esta "GT4 100th Tribute edition". Esta versión dota a una máquina ya de por sí radical, de un carácter más puro aún: mantiene el motor de 6 cilindros y 3L con 340cv y 500nm, y a esta fórmula le añade una caja de cambios manual de 6 velocidades que, bien domada, es rápida. Gracias a la utilización de fibra de carbono y la renuncia a ciertas comodidades, como el asiento eléctrico y un equipo de sonido más simplón, se logra una reducción de peso de casi 40kg respecto a la versión automática. Se plantea la siguiente cuestión, que puede parecer trivial para algunos, pero que es de gran importancia: ¿Adquirirían una máquina tan radical como esta, con caballos de fuerza de sobra, de propulsión, aparentemente orientada a clavar los tiempos en el Jarama y además disfrutar haciéndolo, con cambio manual? Esta pregunta ha generado opiniones de todo tipo en las redes sociales. En general, este coche ha sido muy apreciado. El motor puede parecer algo perezoso a bajas revoluciones, sin embargo, responde con gran potencia cuando se le exige un poco más. Es apreciable que tenga esas jorobas en el techo que recuerdan tanto a los GT de circuito más radicales. La estética del conjunto es agradable, con ese color especial PLASMA ORANGE propio de esta edición limitada a 100 unidades y cómo combina con esas llantas negras de 19 pulgadas. Sin embargo, hay un aspecto que no ha sido del agrado y que influye mucho en la valoración global: Toyota podría haber incluido unas salidas/entradas de aire reales o, en su defecto, no incluirlas. Toyota launched its A90-generation Toyota Supra after a long lull in the Supra's nameplate. The beloved automotive star of the first Fast and Furious film went on hiatus after 1998 in the United States. Toyota famously brought the Supra back under its Gazoo Racing subbrand in 2019. While the Supra might not be on the bones of a Celica or a Lexus SC, the A90-Generation still sticks to what made the Supra a Japanese classic. Powering the '22 GR Supra is a turbocharged 3.0-liter I6 that's mated to an eight-speed transmission. Toyota will offer the manual transmission on the '23 models, but this '22 example is automatic only. The reborn Toyota Supra faces stiff competition from all sides as the higher-end sport coupe market is only getting fiercer with time. Competition from Nissan with the latest Z, Chevrolet's Corvette and the machines from BMW might make Toyota's Supra a harder choice to make for some, but that doesn't erase that it is fun. The Toyota Supra took a small 20-year hiatus from the production line when its fourth generation wrapped in 1998. During its time offline, the Supra name became synonymous with Toyota performance thanks to movies like The Fast and the Furious, video games like Gran Turismo, and countless ultra-high performance Supra examples in real life. This latest Supra builds on that legacy and sticks with inline-six power. Even though it uses a BMW heart, this 3.0-liter I6 sends 382 hp and 368 lb-ft of torque through an eight-speed transmission and to the rear wheels. Den Auswirkungen der Corona-Pandemie und der globalen Halbleiter-Knappheit hat das Unternehmen bereits 2021 erfolgreich getrotzt: 10,5 Millionen verkaufte Fahrzeuge weltweit entsprechen einer Absatzsteigerung von rund zehn Prozent. Die langfristige und vertrauensvolle Zusammenarbeit mit den Lieferanten, aber auch das Lernen aus vergangenen Krisen beispielsweise infolge des Tsunamis 2011 haben die Verbindung gestärkt – eine Eigenschaft, die gegen fortwährende Probleme genauso hilft wie bei neuen. Lokale Forschungs- und Entwicklungszentren sowie Designstudios garantieren dabei Modelle, die perfekt die Wünsche und Ansprüche europäischer Kunden widerspiegeln.  Der Aygo X ist ein solches Beispiel: Aufbauend auf einer eigenständigen Plattform, markiert das kleine, bereits im zweiten Quartal 2022 startende Crossover-SUV den neuen Einstieg in die Toyota Welt. Neben einer auf Elektromobilität ausgelegten Plattform macht sich das Unternehmen hier seine jahrelange Erfahrung in der Elektrifizierung von Fahrzeugen zunutze. Der Stromer ist dabei nur der Anfang: Bis 2025 will das Unternehmen weltweit 5,5 Millionen elektrifizierte Fahrzeuge verkaufen. Hierfür werden mehr als 70 elektrifizierte Modelle eingeführt, darunter 15 lokal emissionsfreie Brennstoffzellen- oder reine Elektroautos. Bis zum Jahr 2030 sind 30 reine E-Automodelle geplant. Abgerundet wird die diesjährige Modelloffensive vom ähnlich elektrisierenden Toyota GR 86. Der GR 86 ist eine Weiterentwicklung des GT86 und behält dessen klassische Konfiguration aus Frontmotor und Hinterradantrieb bei. Beim Motor handelt es sich nach wie vor um einen drehfreudigen Vierzylinder-Boxermotor, dessen Hubraum für mehr Drehmoment und Leistung auf 2,4 Liter vergrößert wurde. Technische Anpassungen an Motor und Getriebe sorgen über das gesamte Drehzahlband für eine gleichmäßige, kraftvolle Beschleunigung.  Der neue GR 86 wurde erstmals im April 2021 vorgestellt und wird im Frühjahr 2022 in Europa eingeführt. Der 16-Ventil-Vierzylinder mit zwei obenliegenden Nockenwellen ist ein wichtiger Faktor für den niedrigen Schwerpunkt des Fahrzeugs. Zum Einsatz kommt der gleiche Zylinderblock wie beim Vorgänger, der Hubraum wurde jedoch von 1.998 auf 2.387 cm³ vergrößert. Dies wurde durch eine Vergrößerung des Bohrungsdurchmessers von 86 auf 94 Millimeter erreicht. Foto: Toyota Deutschland GmbH    Bei einem unveränderten Verdichtungsverhältnis von 12,5:1 steigt die Leistung damit um rund 17 Prozent von 147 kW/200 PS auf 172 kW/234 PS. Dadurch beschleunigt der neue GR 86 in 6,3 Sekunden von null auf 100 km/h (6,9 Sekunden mit Automatikgetriebe) – und damit um mehr als eine Sekunde schneller als sein Vorgänger. Die Höchstgeschwindigkeit beträgt 226 km/h mit manueller Schaltung und 216 km/h mit Automatikgetriebe. Das Drehmoment wurde ebenfalls erhöht, wobei der Motor so abgestimmt wurde, dass die maximalen 250 Nm früher zur Verfügung stehen – bereits bei 3.700 U/min im Vergleich zu 205 Nm bei 6.600 U/min im GT86. There aren't many affordable rear-drive sports coupes on the market so the 2022 Toyota GR 86 is a gift to enthusiasts. Generation two gets what the faithful asked for- added power, a more usable torque curve, improved manual shift action and a stiffened body structure. The 2-liter 4-cylinder boxer engine grows to 2.4-liters. The cabin gets spruced up too. Tom Voelk travels to the Monticello Motor Club in New York to check out the GR 86 on the track and the surrounding roads. Tom attended a manufacturer's event for this review. The Toyota GR 86 has had many names over its first-generation but now will push forward under the Gazoo Racing banner to further cement Toyota's interest in bringing its sporting spirit to the street. This new 86 is an evolution of the previous generation car and builds on what worked, and fixes what didn't. The biggest complaint of the outgoing model: power. While this Toyota's boxer mill still breaths without any external help, the folks at Toyota and Subaru decided to increase the 2.0-liter's displacement to 2.4-liters. That gives this flat-four a new lease on life and, among other alterations, fixes the torque dip found on previous models. Now sending 228 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque through a standard six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels. On this episode of Quick Spin, host Wesley Wren puts the GR 86 through its paces at Monticello Motor Club and the nearby rural streets. Wren walks you around the new Toyota GR 86 as well as takes you for a live drive review. Expanding on these recordings, Wren chats with Patrick Carone about the world where this car lives.
