Nasser Al-Attiyah salió decidido a atacar y logró marcar grandes diferencias sobre sus rivales en una etapa brillante, superando a Quintero, Lategan y Al-Rajhi. Sin embargo, su esfuerzo quedó en vano debido a una penalización de 10 minutos por no llegar a meta con las dos ruedas de repuesto, lo que complicó aún más su lucha por remontar tras la avería del día anterior. Es el Rey de la discreción. Pero desde que nació en 1966, va para los 60 años, se han vendido más de 50 millones de Corolla en todo el Mundo. Récord absoluto. Es verdad que este modelo ha cambiado mucho desde la primera generación hasta ahora, que se asoma a las 12+1… y es lo que os voy a contar. ¿Cuál es el secreto para semejante éxito? Porque es verdad que el Corolla ha cambiado mucho, pero en una cosa ha cambiado poco. Sigue siendo, como decíamos, el “rey” de la discreción. Y es que cuando Toyota lanzó al mercado japones el primer Corolla, esa discreción era una de las cualidades más deseadas. Se buscaba un coche práctico, asequible, fiable, que quizás no fuese excepcional en nada, pero bueno en todo. Lo que se dice un coche equilibrado. Y lo consiguió. Hay que ser justos: Decir que no era excepcional en nada no es cierto, porque en una cosa siempre ha sido excepcional: En su relación calidad/precio. No se puede decir del Corolla que nunca haya sido un coche realmente caro, pero siempre ha sido un coche de una fiabilidad muy por encima de la media. Como curiosidad puedo contaros que el coche japonés de mayor éxito de la historia no tiene nombre japonés… sino latino. Porque Corolla significa en latín “pequeña corona” y también se utiliza para referirse a la parte interna de una flor formada por pétalos, como una margarita, por ejemplo. Otra curiosidad: En algunos mercados, como el español, entre más o menos los años 2006 y 2018 el Corolla se denominó Auris… mucho más feo, por cierto. Vamos a desgranar la evolución de este modelo desde sus inicios hasta la actualidad repasando sus 12 generaciones… y es que hay que aclarar que la velocidad de renovación de los modelos japoneses era, sobre todo en los años 60, 70 y 80 mucha más rápido en Japón que en Europa… Y vamos ya a ver esas 12 generaciones: 1ª Generación: Pionero. (1966-1970) El Corolla nace en octubre de 1966 con la idea de competir con un modelo, entonces, de gran éxito: El Datsun 1000… 2ª Generación: Más curvas. (1970-1974) En 1970 llega la segunda generación que crece en tamaño casi 10 cm y retoca su carrocería dotándola de líneas más suaves y curvas. 3ª Generación: Crecimiento. (1974-1980) El Corolla crece al mismo paso que la economía japonesa y en 1974 nace un nuevo Corolla con más de todo: Más grande, más pesado… y más rápido. 4ª Generación: Lujoso. (1980-1984) Para mí es una simple evolución de las 3ª generación. Ya se ofrecen motores de hasta 1.8 litros y en según qué mercados, el coche pretende tener unos ciertos toques de lujo. 5ª Generación: Tracción delantera. (1983-1987) Por muchos motivos este es uno de los Corolla claves en la historia de la marca y del modelo. No es una evolución del anterior, sino un salto adelante. Lo más importante es que es el primer Corolla de tracción delantera. 6ª Generación: Modernidad. (1987-1991) Hubo versiones de gasolina de hasta 1.8 litros, una de ellas con turbo, también diésel de hasta 2 litros. 7ª Generación: ¿Tropezón? (1993-1997) Con la 7ª generación se pretendió subir un par de peldaños en calidad real y percibida, exigiendo mejoras importantes incluso a los proveedores… sin embargo, esta generación no tuvo tanto éxito y no resultó tan fiable… ironías del destino. 8ª Generación: Economía. (1995-2000) Me gustan más, por lo general, los faros redondos que los rectangulares… pero estos “faritos” medio ovales medio redondos de algunas versiones de este Corolla confieso que no me gustan. 9ª Generación: “Taylor made”. (2003-2008) En mi opinión, el mayor mérito de esta generación es que supo adaptarse a los mercados. 10ª Generación: “5 minutos”. (2009-2012) Soichiro Okudaira fue quién comenzó a utilizar la “regla de la impresión en cinco minutos”. ¿Y eso qué es? Pues un verdadero desafío, se trataba de que los clientes debían apreciar la calidad en los cinco primeros minutos de conducirlo. Y este plan fue un éxito, sobre todo en los USA: 11ª Generación: Dos en uno. (2013-2019) El proceso de adaptación a los mercados se lleva tan lejos como que el Corolla japones es diferente al de los Corolla para exportar o fabricados fuera de Japón. 12ª Generación: La última. (2019-presente) La última… de momento. Por supuesto con versiones híbridas y modelos, en España, desde los 140 CV hasta casi 200 CV… bueno, y las versiones deportivas que las reservamos para el final… Esta generación se “restilizó” en 2023 y estéticamente es muy “japonés” pero bastante atractivo… aunque, como el primigenio Corolla, sigue siendo, en mi opinión, un coche discreto. Coche del día. Y es que la cabra tira al monte. Por eso he elegido como coche del día la versión GR Corolla. GR viene de Gazoo Racing la división deportiva de Toyota. Y este Corolla carrocería Hatchback cuenta con un motor 1.6 litros turboalimentado de tres cilindros de 305 CV.

Neben einem Besucherbereich ist in dem neuen Areal direkt an der hauseigenen Rennstrecke die Entwicklung für neue Lexus Modelle beheimatet. Strategisch ideal gelegen in einer Bergregion zwischen den Städten Toyota City und Okazaki City, nutzt das Unternehmen das natürliche Terrain für ein anspruchsvolles Streckenlayout mit zahlreichen Höhenunterschieden und Kurven. Der Spatenstich für den Bau des Forschungs- und Entwicklungszentrums in Shimoyama erfolgte im April 2018. Ein Jahr später wurde der zentrale Bereich fertiggestellt, im Oktober 2021 folgte der östliche Teil samt Hochgeschwindigkeitskurs und einer speziellen Teststrecke, die besondere Straßenbedingungen auf der ganzen Welt nachbildet. Nun wurde der westliche Bereich der Anlage, der unter anderem ein Besucherzentrum und die Fahrzeugentwicklung umfasst, fertiggestellt und in vollem Umfang in Betrieb genommen. Hier kommen künftig Mitarbeiter aus allen Bereichen, einschließlich Planung und Design, Entwicklung und Konstruktion sowie Prototyping und Evaluierung, an einem Ort zusammen, um gemeinsam neue Modelle für Lexus und Gazoo Racing zu entwickeln. After nearly a decade, the Scion FR-S or Toyota 86 saw a successor. Now planted formerly under the Toyota banner, the sports coupe has formally entered its second generation. The second-gen Toyota 86 adopts the Gazoo Racing naming conventions and fixes some of the problems customers felt with the first-generation models. The team at Toyota and Subaru increased engine displacement and massaged the tuning to help overcome the older model's lack of midrange power. Now packing a 2.4-liter flat-four under the hood, the GR86 sends 228 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque through either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. But one vehicle that does just that is the 2023 Toyota GR Corolla Morizo edition. First off, it serves up 300 horsepower from its highly sophisticated turbocharged three-cylinder engine. In a vehicle the size and weight of a Corolla, that is a heady way to begin. But that's just the start of what the Morizo edition provides. As Host Jack Nerad discovered during his week test driving the GR Corolla, the Morizo Edition's close gear ratio transmission, shorter differential gears, forged wheels, stiffened chassis, front brake ducts, mono-tube shock absorbers, and Ultrasuede seats make a great car even greater. While turning the GR Corolla into a two-seater takes the edge off versatility, it does show Gazoo Racing is serious about lightweighting the car. Torque is a stout 295 pound-feet, giving the Morizo Edition gratifying acceleration. Today we're covering Toyota's march toward EVs, Tesla's investor day, and a resurgence of the manual transmission.Incoming Toyota CEO, Koji Sato is preparing to take the baton from long time CEO and industry icon Akido Toyoda on April 1st and he is making his intentions clear that Toyota will be taking a BEV first approach moving forward while maintaining its holistic and measured approach. "To deliver attractive BEVs to more customers, we must streamline the structure of the car, and — with a BEV-first mindset — we must drastically change the way we do business, from manufacturing to sales and service. Now that the time is right, we will accelerate BEV development with a new approach.”Sato is an experienced engineer who leads the Lexus International premium division as well as Toyota's Gazoo Racing motorsports arm. The company recently executed a full tear down of a Model Y and seemed to be impressed with the elegance and efficiency of its design with one executive saying "Taking the skin off the Model Y, it was truly a work of art. To accelerate the global move toward sustainable vehicles, Toyota is suggesting simply replacing the inner workings of vehicles already on the roads with cleaner technology like fuel cells and electric motors. “I don't want to leave any car lover behind,” Chief Executive Akio Toyoda said, appearing on the stage at the Tokyo Auto Salon, an industry event similar to the world's auto shows. The message was clear: Toyota Motor Corp. wants the world to know it hasn't fallen behind in electric vehicles, as some detractors have implied. Japan's top automaker, behind the Lexus luxury brands and the Prius hybrid, is highlighting its clout: It has all the technology, engineering, financial reserves, and industry experience needed to remain a powerful competitor in green vehicles. Toyoda told reporters it would take a long time for all the cars to become zero emission, as they only make up a fraction of the vehicles being sold. Changing old cars to go green, or “conversion,” was a better option, he said. Toyoda, the grandson of the company founder and an avid racer himself, was also hoping to debunk the stereotype that clean cars aren't as fun as regular cars. At Toyota's Gazoo Racing booth, the maker of the Lexus luxury models and Camry sedan showed a video of its triumph at world rallies, as well as the battery-electric and hydrogen-powered versions of the Toyota AE86 series including the Toyota Corolla Levin, to underline what Toyoda called its “conversion” strategy. The auto industry is undergoing a transformation because of growing concerns about climate change. Automakers are often blamed as the culprits. Toyoda said ecological efforts in the auto industry were starting to be appreciated in many nations, but he felt less appreciated in Japan. Toyota has dominated the industry with its hybrid technology, exemplified in the Prius, which has both an electric motor and gasoline engine, switching back and forth to deliver the most efficient ride. Toyota launched its A90-generation Toyota Supra after a long lull in the Supra's nameplate. The beloved automotive star of the first Fast and Furious film went on hiatus after 1998 in the United States. Toyota famously brought the Supra back under its Gazoo Racing subbrand in 2019. While the Supra might not be on the bones of a Celica or a Lexus SC, the A90-Generation still sticks to what made the Supra a Japanese classic. Powering the '22 GR Supra is a turbocharged 3.0-liter I6 that's mated to an eight-speed transmission. Toyota will offer the manual transmission on the '23 models, but this '22 example is automatic only. Die Namensähnlichkeit zum GR Yaris ist allerdings berechtigt, denn die Motorsport-DNA des Yaris GR Sport ist sofort zu erkennen. Dafür sorgen der markante Kühlergrill, der Diffusor am Heck, die 18-Zoll-Leichtmetallfelgen mit roten Zierlinien und die exklusive Dynamic Grey Lackierung. Power und Drive!    Den Yaris GR Sport gibt es aktuell mit zwei Motorisierungen. Zum einen mit einem 1,5-l-VVT-i Benziner mit 92 kW (125 PS), zum anderen als Hybrid mit einer Systemleistung von 85 kw (116 PS), die von einem 68 kW (92 PS) starken Benzinmotor und einem 59 kW (80 PS) starken Elektromotor erzeugt werden. Diese Variante mit serienmäßigem stufenlosen Automatikgetriebe haben wir getestet.  Der Wagen ist mit dieser Antriebskonfiguration 175 Kilometer schnell, er beschleunigt in 9,7 Sekunden von 0 auf 100 km/h. Der Verbrauch auf 100 Kilometer liegt kombiniert bei  4,9 Litern nach WLTP-Norm. Die Innenausstattung!Schaut man sich beim Toyota Yaris Hybrid GR Sport die Standardausstattung an, dann vermisst man nicht viel. Dinge wie das Smart-Key-System zum schlüssellosen Öffnen und Schließen des Fahrzeugs, die 2-Zonen Klimaautomatik, das 4,2" Multi-Info-Farbdisplay und die Sitzheizung für Fahrer und Beifahrer sind ebenso vorhanden wie das Multimedia – Audiosystem. Toyota Touch®, Myt Connected Services mit Parkpositionsfinder, Routenplanung, Inspektionserinnerung etc. und die Smartphone Integration von Apple CarPlay und Android Auto sind nur einige von vielen Features, die der GR Sport serienmäßig mitbringt. Die Kosten!Den Yaris als solchen bekommt man bereits ab 17.800,00 €, beim GR Sport geht es mit 25.940,00 € für den Benziner los, die Hybridversion kostet ab 28.840,00 €. Thema heute:    Toyota präsentiert den neuen GR 86   Foto: Toyota Deutschland GmbH Der neue Toyota GR 86 ist das dritte eigenständige Modell der Marke Toyota Gazoo Racing. Das Trio profitiert vom Engagement im internationalen Spitzenmotorsport, das dem Hersteller in den vergangenen Jahren mehrere Weltmeisterschaftstitel eingebracht hat. Foto: Toyota Deutschland GmbH Das neue Coupé ermöglicht einem breiteren Publikum den Einstieg in das Portfolio von Gazoo Racing und damit den Zugang zu einem sportlichen Fahrerlebnis. Der GR 86 ist eine Weiterentwicklung des GT86 und behält dessen klassische Konfiguration aus Frontmotor und Hinterradantrieb bei. Beim Motor handelt es sich nach wie vor um einen drehfreudigen Vierzylinder-Boxermotor, dessen Hubraum für mehr Drehmoment und Leistung auf 2,4 Liter vergrößert wurde. Technische Anpassungen an Motor und Getriebe sorgen über das gesamte Drehzahlband für eine gleichmäßige, kraftvolle Beschleunigung.  Der neue GR 86 wurde erstmals im April 2021 vorgestellt und wird im Frühjahr 2022 in Europa eingeführt. Die offizielle Europapremiere findet am 2. Dezember 2021 statt.  Foto: Toyota Deutschland GmbH    Leistung und Performance Wie beim GT86 ist der Boxermotor mit gegenüberliegenden Zylindern ein entscheidendes Merkmal des neuen GR 86. Der 16-Ventil-Vierzylinder mit zwei obenliegenden Nockenwellen ist ein wichtiger Faktor für den niedrigen Schwerpunkt des Fahrzeugs. Zum Einsatz kommt der gleiche Zylinderblock wie beim Vorgänger, der Hubraum wurde jedoch von 1.998 auf 2.387 cm³ vergrößert. Dies wurde durch eine Vergrößerung des Bohrungsdurchmessers von 86 auf 94 Millimeter erreicht. Dadurch beschleunigt der neue GR 86 in 6,3 Sekunden von null auf 100 km/h (6,9 Sekunden mit Automatikgetriebe) – und damit um mehr als eine Sekunde schneller als sein Vorgänger. Die Höchstgeschwindigkeit beträgt 226 km/h mit manueller Schaltung und 216 km/h mit Automatikgetriebe. Das Drehmoment wurde ebenfalls erhöht, wobei der Motor so abgestimmt wurde, dass die maximalen 250 Nm früher zur Verfügung stehen – bereits bei 3.700 U/min im Vergleich zu 205 Nm bei 6.600 U/min im GT86. The Toyota GR 86 has had many names over its first-generation but now will push forward under the Gazoo Racing banner to further cement Toyota's interest in bringing its sporting spirit to the street. This new 86 is an evolution of the previous generation car and builds on what worked, and fixes what didn't. The biggest complaint of the outgoing model: power. While this Toyota's boxer mill still breaths without any external help, the folks at Toyota and Subaru decided to increase the 2.0-liter's displacement to 2.4-liters. That gives this flat-four a new lease on life and, among other alterations, fixes the torque dip found on previous models. Now sending 228 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque through a standard six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels. For example, they talk about ‘official tests’ when they mean the old and no longer used NEDC test. They through in hear-say of how a car operates, as though it is fact, which it may well be but they do not investigate it. They cry foul over how some owners do not use the technology properly as though that is the tech’s fault. The 2020 Toyota Supra isn't quite here yet, but Sami spends a day on the racetrack behind the wheel of a Gazoo Racing prototype Supra at Jarama, Spain, while also piloting it through the streets of Madrid. Driven back to back against the Toyota GT86, it raises almost as many questions as it answers, and the pair go deep on what it means for a car with a history as long as the Supra to ride entirely on BMW mechanicals. Benjamin is back from the Arctic Ocean after driving the region's only permanent road to the northern shore in the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado, a truck that shakes out much better than its luxury-focused GMC Sierra Denali platform-twin.
