For the tenth episode of There Is No Planet Earth Stories, I'm joined by guest Alan Oldham representing stories from Detroit.ALAN OLDHAM has been called “Detroit's Renaissance Man,” equally as known for his art as for his music under the pseudonym DJ T-1000. The Detroit-born polymath, now living and working in Berlin, began his dual careers in the late 80s. First as the host of the “Fast Forward Program” on WDET FM 101.9, Detroit's first-ever radio show devoted exclusively to electronic music, and as a young indie comic artist, writing and drawing his own original creation, “Johnny Gambit” (predating the Marvel character). Oldham was later tapped by his childhood friend, Derrick May, to illustrate the label art for the now-classic records “Nude Photo” and “Beyond The Dance” on his fledgling Transmat label, and Detroit Techno history was made. Oldham was later hired by another childhood friend, Jeff Mills, to do freelance PR for the nascent Underground Resistance collective, writing press releases for the label. When Mills departed for a solo career, UR partner “Mad” Mike Banks tapped AO to replace him as DJ for their Australian Tour of 1992. The codename DJ T-1000 was adopted, and history was made once again. Jumpstart to infamy.Since then, as an international DJ, Oldham has spun all over the planet, as far afield as Tokyo, Manila, The Phillipines, and Shanghai. When he's not behind the decks at home clubs Tresor Berlin and RSO, on the road to places like Batumi, Georgia or Trapani, Italy, or in the studio making music for labels like RSPX/Rekids, BPitch Berlin, Suspected Music, Third Ear, Elypsia Records, or his own Pure Sonik Records label, he is making new paintings and organizing art openings showcasing his iconic works. Oldham has put on art happenings in Amsterdam, Paris, Barcelona, Berlin, Vienna, and Detroit, as well as his iconic techno artworks being on view in Paris, London and Dusseldorf, as part of its traveling “Electronic: From Kraftwerk to the Chemical Brothers” exhibit. The multi-talented Oldham has also made his artistic debut in Kobe, Japan in 2022 with the exhibit “Massive Dynamic” at the Nick Jerky Art Cafe. In 2024, Oldham was also honored by the Mayor and Detroit City Council with a “Spirit of Detroit” Award for his musical and artistic contributions to his hometown. And back in Berlin, as part of Love Parade founder Dr. Motte's Rave The Planet team, Oldham helped Berlin Techno to achieve UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage status. Oldham's long-awaited EP as DJ T-1000 for Rekids sub-label RSPX is out now, as well as his new “Ask Me No Questions And I'll Tell You No Lies” EP on Pure Sonik Records, currently riding high on several Spotify techno charts including Mary Anne Hobbs' on BBC6. New releases to come!Support the show
"All I want to do is express what I love." The beloved Berghain resident talks about learning from failure, putting in the time and how good sound systems have changed his life. Born and bred in Minneapolis, Zak Khutoretsky, AKA DVS1, has been throwing and playing raves for decades. Now 47, he's at the top of his game. As one of Berghain's most popular residents and a producer known for his deep and versatile sound, he's amassed thousands of followers around the world, releasing on Klockworks, Transmat and Ostgut Ton, in addition to his own label, HUSH. Not just an artist, Khutoretsky has garnered a reputation for speaking critically about the challenges facing the electronic music community, notably through his essay about the battle between art and entertainment, and more recently through the inauguration of his revenue sharing platform ASlice. The organisation was designed in 2020 as an antidote to the pay disparity between DJ earnings and producer earnings, and its basic conceit is that DJs submit playlists of their tracks and share small percentages of their gig fees to be redistributed among the artists whose tracks they've played. In this RA Exchange live from ADE, Khutoretsky talks with journalist Christine Kakaire about the platform and the impetus behind it, as well as his underlying tendency to be a "fixer," from the problems in his house to the issues he sees plaguing his community.

Salar moved to Detroit almost a decade ago to immerse himself amongst musicians, producers, history and electronic music culture, a place he dreamed about. Little did he know what was installed for this journey, that led him to work with DJ producer Derrick May's label, Transmat, then meeting and working closely with songwriter, record producer and keyboardist, Luis Resto, known for his twenty year collaboration with Eminem, at Salar's favorite yogurt, rice and beans spot. In this episode I'm speaking with Chicago born, Detroit raised DJ, music producer, musician Alton Miller, who is widely known for his impact and as a pioneer of Detroit electronic music culture. Having started legendary club night Music Institute with George Baker and Chez Demier, working on Kevin Saunderson's KMS Records, Derrick May's label Transmat, signed artists like Joey Beltram, releasing five albums of his own, including a long list of EP's and touring the world for over three decades. Miller currently resides in Johannesburg, and during COVID, launched his own Beard grooming product line and a non for profit to develop skills and empowering young women in rural areas of South Africa, while continuing to release music. I sat down with Alton Miller at the end of an impromptu Australian tour, which he described as an exploration to revisit his footprints and to commence touring again to spread house and soul music to the world. We spoke about his early Detroit experiences and some recent ones, his label work throughout the years, his recent contribution projects and the choice of a “slow burn” career in electronic music. Detroit-born, Berlin-based Alan D. Oldham has been called "Detroit Techno's Renaissance Man" by Muzik Magazine ( UK ). Electronic musician, label owner, remixer, graphic illustrator, and international DJ, Oldham-under his stage name DJ T-1000-does it all. A lifelong cartoonist and graphic designer, a young Oldham published his own indie comic book "Johnny Gambit" in 1987 to local notoriety. Hired that same year by his childhood friend Derrick May to illustrate several memorable pieces for his new Transmat label, this led to Oldham's very first involvement in the fledgling Detroit Techno scene. More art requests quickly followed, most famously from the Djax-Up-Beats label ( NL ), where his art took center stage for many years (the lone EP that Oldham produced for Djax, under the name Signal To Noise Ratio, brought home a 1991 Detroit Metro Times Music Award for best single in "Detroit Is Burning"). As a DJ, he has played clubs and festivals all over the world, as far afield as Shanghai, China. As a producer, he has released on Tresor ( DE ), BPitch Control ( DE ), Third Ear Recordings ( UK ), Elypsia Records ( BE ), Finale Sessions ( USA ), Astralwerks ( USA ), and my own labels Generator and Pure Sonik Records, among others. Laurent Garnier « Jacques In The Box » feat. Joey Negro is the most well-known pseudonym of master British DJ/producer/remixer Dave Lee. Under a plethora of other monikers including Akabu, Doug Willis, The Sunburst Band, Jakatta, Raven Maize, Sessomatto, and Z Factor, Dave was one of the first artists to incorporate disco samples in house music when he began his production career in 1988. Indeed, he was in the studio making credible British House music when many luminaries around him were still busy getting to grips with their decks. Little has changed since then and Dave is still widely regarded as one of the forefathers of the UK dance scene who is still as productive as ever in the studio and behind the decks most weekends. A producer first, his work ethic is legendry, having been involved in well over 300 productions, countless albums and a healthy stack of pop crossover hit singles with tracks such as ‘Must Be The Music’, ‘Make A Move On Me’ and Jakatta’s ‘American Dream” making the UK Top 10. Dave has also been commissioned to remix the likes of Kelly Rowland, Empire of the Sun, Mariah Carey, Labrynth, Pet Shop Boys, Diana Ross and many many more. He also conceived and produced the UK number 1 “Relight My Fire” by Take That. However, despite the crossover successes the majority of Dave’s productions have had the heart in underground clubland – with releases on many seminal house music labels – Transmat, Nu Groove, Quark, JBO, Azuli, Deconstruction Guidance & NRK. Intrinsically linked with the birth of house in the UK, Dave Lee set up the dance music division of Rough Trade, Demix in 1986 and through this link, he began working with the Rhythm King label, which had had a number of hits with acts like Bomb The Bass, S-Express, Cookie Crew and Beatmasters. This experience and intimacy with other leading house labels led to him establishing his own imprint, Republic Records, in 1988. Now defunct, Republic was one of the UK’s first soulful house label releasing classics such as Phase II “Reachin” and Turntable Orchestra “You’re Gonna Miss Me” - as well as some early productions of his own like Raven Maize “Forever Together” Joey Negro, as an entity, was born in 1990 with the release of “Do It Believe It’ on US cult house label Nu Groove. When struggling for an act name Dave flicked through a pile of records next to his desk and ending up putting together Pal Joey and J Walter Negro - “I thought it sounded like a cool hispanic New York guy, I certainly never envisaged I’d be answering to the name Joey 25 years later”. The track was a breakthrough success and was followed by ‘Do What You Feel’, which was released on his second label and successor to Republic, Z Records. ‘Do What You Feel’ eventually crossed from a club hit to a top 40 pop hit on Virgin Records. Another Top 40 track followed with “Love Fantasy” and an album “Universe of Love” with guest appearances from disco acts The Trammps and Gwen Gutherie. Throughout the 90/00’s Dave delivered a constant stream of productions and remixes with tracks like his “Can’t Get High Without U” and Z Factor “Gotta Keep Pushin” (used as the theme for Ibiza Uncovered) becoming anthems on the dancefloor. These days his label ZR is not only a vehicle for him to release his own music but has become a very cool brand featuring productions and remixes from both cutting edge and established producers like Dennis Ferrer, Jimpster, Henrik Schwarz, The Revenge and Frankie Knuckles. Dave’s work producing live disco act The Sunburst Band has been the source of much praise and adoration. Their fourth album ‘The Secret Life of Us’ from 2012 was yet another power house of all things soul, jazz, and funk featuring a host of live musicians and vocalists has been widely regarded as the strongest Sunburst album yet. The LP topped the Solar Sweet rhythms for over 2 months (a record), Starpoint Soul chart, Amazon Funk chart and has received across the board props. The band continue to tour around the world on a regular basis. Dave has remained an avid vinyl collector and has put together many genre defining compilations – ‘Disco (Not Disco)’ (Strut), ‘Joey Negro In The House’ (Defected), ‘Disco Spectrum’ Vol.1–3 (BBE), ‘Jumpin’ 1& 2 (Harmless), Southport Weekender Volume 1, ‘Nite:Life’ and ‘Back In The Box’ (NRK) ‘The Trip’ (Family Records) ‘The Voyage – Excursions into Early House’ (X Treme) & ‘Lust: Art & Soul’ (Susu). Whilst on ZR he’s compiled ‘Destination Boogie’, ‘Locked In The Vinyl Cellar’, ‘Supafunkanova’ ‘The Soul of Disco’ (Vol.1-3), ‘Back Street Brit Funk’ and the latest labour of love ‘GoGo Get Down’ that focused on Washington DC GoGo funk, all of which continue to further cement him as one of the UK’s foremost musical authorities. Not wanting to hog all the limelight, Dave has started the ‘Under The Influence’ series on ZR which gives a platform to some of the worlds most serious record collectors – unknown names who’ve spent their lives collecting music and have the knowledge to put together a wicked selection on previously unheard music. His discography is undoubtedly impressive and his deep understanding as a selector of all things disco and house on the dancefloor have ensured his status on the global DJ circuit worldwide to this day. Joey Negro's dj sets reflect his extensive love of music ranging from rare disco through to vocal and classic house and often into more deep, electronic and techy areas, his sets littered with exclusives, old and new. Where as many producers from his era have tended to ease off on the studio work Mr Lee keeps turning out the club hits, evident in 2012 when he had 5 releases in the Traxsource end of year top 100. 2013 saw his long awaited compilation ‘Remixed With Love’ hit the stores. Packed with brand new remixes of classic disco tracks all reworked from original 24 track tapes and including artists such as Roxy Music, Patrice Rushen & Roy Ayers, the album topped sales charts on Amazon and Juno and stayed at No.1 on Traxsource for 4 months. His Akabu track "Everybody Wants Something" also featured in many end of year ‘best of’ charts. Joey has kept the pressure on in 2014 with singles under his Z Factor, Doug Willis and Sunburst Band aliases plus remixes for Zo! and Tramhead. He also put together and released a universally applauded Italo House album which dug deep into house history delivering some forgotten gems that still sound great today. Looking forward to next year there are already three albums lined up - Supafunkanova Volume 2, Remixed With Love Vol. 2 and a stunning compilation of 90s House and Garage. Also look out for a new artist album from Joey Negro coming soon... For all booking enquiries please email simon AT zrecords DOT ltd DOT uk

Originally from Detroit, born and raised, this Atlanta transplant, has been a DJ since his youth. From backyard and basement parties as a youngster, to the small club scene of metro Detroit, Reggie Dokes eventually became a sought after DJ in Mo-Town. Fast forwarding to 2001 he created his label Psychostasia Recordings, which after a period of hibernation has been reinvigorated in 2017... Having released on heavyweight labels such as Clone, Transmat, Royal Oak and We Play House, Reggie's ear for a soulful flavour of US house is finely tuned. His mix here is no exception. Happy Friday folks...

MIXをLightSide(DeepHouse/SoulfullHouse Set)とDarkSide(Techno/Minimal/Progressive)に分けての配信!!! 今までは1つのMIXでHouse〜Technoと展開を作り幅広く掛けてましたが今回はHouseならその中での展開、TechnoならTechnoでの展開で構成しています。 このMIXはDarkSide(Techno/Minimal/ProgressiveSet)です。 K1971 PODCAST - DJ T-1000 aka Alan Oldham Alan Oldham has been called "Detroit Techno's Renaissance Man" (Musik, UK).A lifelong cartoonist and graphic designer, a young Oldham published his own comic book "Johnny Gambit" in 1987 to local notoriety. Hired that same year by his childhood friend Derrick May to illustrate several memorable pieces for the new Transmat label, this led to Oldham's first involvement in the fledgling techno scene. Besides his art and writing, 1987 also saw Oldham's radio debut on Detroit's WDET-FM with the long-running 'Fast Forward' program. Originally meant to be a free-form rock, jazz and fusion show, Oldham's passion for both local and international electronic music gradually took centerstage until it finally became the only radio program in Detroit to feature techno and house music exclusively. The early cassette, reel-to reel and four-track material of such (now) well-known international artists as Underground Resistance, Carl Craig, Kenny Larkin, Octave One, Anthony Shakir, and Richie Hawtin made its on-air debut here, as well as being the first and only show to break international acts like Moby, Joey Beltram, 808 State, LFO, Front 242, Nitzer Ebb, and others in Detroit. In 1988, Oldham graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Radio-TV-Film. In 1990, having finally produced his own EP at a friend's studio, Oldham sold the project to a small Dutch label whose fax number he found in the record bins of Recordtime. His pseudonym for the four-track project was Signal to Noise Ratio released by the small Dutch label, DJAX Records. After the release of the EP, label boss Saskia "Miss DJAX" Slegers hired Oldham to create the graphic identity of DJAX-UP-BEATS. Ten years on, DJAX dominates the Dutch techno scene and Oldham's trademark visual style still defines the label. In 1992, Jeff Mills left Underground Resistance to become a solo act. "Mad" Mike Banks, needing an immediate replacement DJ for a month-long Austrailian live tour, tapped Oldham for the job. Without rehearsals, Oldham took the leap of faith that changed his life. Jump start into infamy. Leaving his increasingly-thankless WDET airshift behind forever and adopting the onstage personal of DJ T-1000 (taken from the shape-shifting liquid metal cyborg in "T2"), Oldham began rocking decks for UR and never looked back, setting the stage for subsequent UR "assault DJs"Rolando and James Pennington. Upon returning from UR's triumphant Austrailian tour, Banks again tapped Oldham's many talents, this time asking him to create a label to be distributed by a new company that Banks was organizing, a distributorship that would within a few years come to dominate the Detroit landscape: Submerge. Oldham agreed and his second and most successful attempt at a label, (the first was the disasterous Technika records 1989) would be called Generator. It was also during this time that Oldham once again became prolific, artwise. A fully-painted "Danger Girl" comic strip in Muzik UK and the album cover for Astralwerks "Beyond The Third Wave" (ASW6170) compilation marked 1995, as well as his debut retrospective at Detroit's Cement Space Gallery and a new "Miss DJAX" comic. With his solo career in full swing, however, it was time for his music to follow suit. Oldham established the Pure Sonik label in 1996 with the double-barreled, double-vinyl statement of intent "Pure Sonik Manifesto" (PURE1). This move garnered his first cover story in Magic Feet (UK), and a music video that aired on MTV UK's "Party Zone". Three years later, the label continues to feature Oldham's production talents as DJ T-1000, the best moments of which can be found on the CD/2x12", "A Pure Sonik Evening" (PURE10) . In 1998, Oldham began an alliance with legendary German techno label, Tresor when their label manager vacationing in Detroit, was blown away be his demo tracks. Signing him on the spot, the first product of that transatlantic union was "Jetset Lovelife EP" (Tresor87) and his debut performance at the Tresor club in Berlin. In between a solid year's worth of DJ dates both in the US and abroad, the release of his first-ever mix CD "Live Sabotage" (BML/X-Sight 6386), and many personal changes at home, Oldham delivered his debut album "Progress" (Tresor128). It was released in Europe in October 1999 and a world tour quickly launched, capped by an epic, four-and-a-half hour set at the Tresor Club, broadcast live over the internet. "Progress" was bracketed by the dual release of "Codes And Structures Vol 1" (PURE11) and "Vol 2" (PURE12) on his own Pure Sonik label. As the new millenium began, Oldham produced a second mix CD "The Last DJ On Earth" (PURE14) , launched 2 websites (both for label and his art), participated in DEMF 2003, released of another album "Neutra" (PURE17CD), and a return to artwork. After over a decade in the music business, DJ T-1000's job of World Sonik Domination is never done. Oldham in 2006 started his first-ever, low-tempo/experimental, CD-only label, "xfive." and presented its first release, "The Art of Transformation" (X5001CD) inspired by his art gallery openings in France, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Germany. Another "Art of Transformation" CD released in January 2008. Los Angeles based Luis Rosario and Miami based Nelson Fernandez (DJ Nova), have come together to form Ds and Cs. A derivative from their heritage, Dominicans and Cubans. Both shared similar influences as Detroit Techno bridged the gap between their coasts. Both share over a decade of DJ experience crossing dance venues coast to coast. As solo production artists, they continue to push their growing sound, Ds and Cs music production however, is a mix of old school and nu school creating a unique but modern day sound. With obvious ties to Detroit, their sound digs into those influences and creates a new feel. Keep your eye on this young DJ/Producer as he propells Miami to the cutting edge of electronic music!!

Artist Name: Mark Farina Web: http://www.djmarkfarina.net/ Biography: Shortly after Mark befriended Derrick Carter in 1988 at a record store in Chicago, his passion for House music, and sharing it with the world, exploded. Mark experimented with a deeper style, dropping De La Soul, disco classics and other stuff that wasn’t being played in the main rooms of nightclubs. While exploring his love for the purist forms of House Music, Mark developed his trademark style: Mushroom Jazz; acid jazz infused with the West Coast’s jazzy, organic productions combined with urban beats. Fans embraced Mark’s downtempo style so much that he started a weekly Mushroom Jazz club night in San Francisco with Patty Ryan. In 3 short years, the club established a fanatical, cult-like following for Farina and the Mushroom Jazz sound. When the doors closed, Farina continued the tradition by releasing a series of Cds on OM Records: simply titled, “Mushroom Jazz”. Since then, Mark has been traveling the globe performing 100s of shows, to over one million club goers, every year. His House sets take fans on journeys to the jazzy side of Chicago House mixed San Fran style. Some of these sets have been known to last up to 8 hours. And sometimes you’ll find Mark playing in two different rooms at the same party, showcasing his range of big room sound to the uber-chill. When Mark’s not touring, you can likely find him in his studio, working on his next release for his imprint, Great Lakes Audio, or on another signature mix for Mushroom Jazz. Mark’s chunky-funky underground house style continually turns the heads of tastemakers worldwide, drawing him not only new fans, but landing him on the Top DJs in the World lists by URB, MUZIK and BPM Magazines. 01. Recorded in Pacha (Ibiza) During the Cadenza Vagabundos Residence Party (Essential Mix) No Introduction needed for Luciano, Simply a master at work. Born in 1978, Luciano is a DJ since 1993 and a producer since 1997. In the mid-90's, he was promoting Sense Club and Encuentros con la Technocultura in Santiago de Chile in the company of many initiators of the Latin American electronic music scene: Senor Coconut AKA Atom Heart, Ricardo Villalobos, Dandy Jack & brother Adrian Schopf, Washington Miranda, Argenix Brito, Microman etc. He's played radio stations and DJed clubs & events in Santiago and Latin America, Germany, Spain & Holland, settling in Switzerland in 2000 to release on Mental Groove Records in Geneva, where he also holds a residency at the Weetamix club. His releases appear on the Transmat, Perlon, Lo-Fi Stereo, Bruchstuecke and Klang Elektronik record labels. Luciano's mixed Swiss & Chilean identity shows in his music, a somewhat mystical blend of deep techno & electro that integrates southern elements in rhythms and colorful patterns in sound. His collaborations with Ricardo Villalobos (Playhouse, Perlon, Warp, Force Inc etc.) as Sense Club are especially rewarding, as is his partnership with Pier Bucci and Argenix Brito as Monne Automne. Mellowing his style as times goes by, getting more experimental and spacey with a fresh style of his own, Luciano's production is destined to the wiser dancefloors that have enjoyed his live sets in Peru, Chile, Argentina, the U.S., Spain, Germany & Switzerland. DJ-wise, Luciano's trade relies on groovy & minimal.
Stacey Pullen is an innovator from the second wave of Detroit techno; he grew up under the mentorship of Detroit's legendary three: Derrick May, Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson. Still continuing to produce his characteristic atmosphere laden electronic sound, Stacey Pullen compounds his reputation as a producer with that of being one of the world's most in demand DJs. Above all, from his earliest attempts to the current day Stacey Pullen has stayed true to his one goal: to become and to always be an Innovator. In the early days, through legenday Detroit club “The Music Institute”, Stacey quickly got to know the leading lights of Detroit's underground: Alton Miller, Chez Damier, Derrick May, and Jay Denham who influenced and taught him strongly. A couple of years later, in 1992, Derrick suggested that a good way to develop his skills would be for Stacey to do some remix work with Kevin Saunderson. Stacey began to work on remixes including one for Karen White ‐'The Way I Feel About You', for Prodigy and KMS – just to name a few. Thus Stacey truly became part of the Transmat / Metroplex / KMS team. After touring Europe with Derrick May all of 1993, Stacey moved back to Detroit, ready to establish himself and start his own label. Throughout 1994 he commuted between Europe and the USA, finishing the Silent Phase album on R & S. Releases like 'The Sphinx' as Bango and the first Silent Phase album on Transmat followed as well as a couple of releases on Plink Plonk by the alias 'Kosmik Messenger' and 'Eye to Eye and 'Flash' ‐ both released in 1995. In 1998 Stacey was invited to produce his very first major label release on Virgin Records, and at the same time opened the label he had wanted to start for about three years, 'BlackFlag'. Its debut release, Black Odyssey‘s „Sweat“, was considered a future classic. The pseudonym under which Stacey recorded also dropped the labels second release „Stand“. Both found great success and went on to be licensed to a number of compilation albums, including Stacey‘s „Fabric 14“ mix compilation. Around that time, Stacey took a break from recording and spent the next years concentrating mainly on furthering his own musical education and Djing. 2011 sees Stacey still on the road, bringing his signature eclecticism to some lucky parts of the planet. As a result, every set becomes more personalized, more unique, a window into Stacey's musical passions. With Black Flag resurrected, 2010’s hit "Alive" is now followed up by "Get Up" in April 2011. „I wanted to create a clean palette of ‚beats‘ music. Programming it to deliver a serious groove that would keep on coming, progressing and leaving you wanting more.“ Yes, please."
Meticulously assembled then recorded down onto cassette, London producer Matt Whitehead reworks and splices together his two 30-minute sets from this year's Bloc Weekend (one performance being at Brackout, the tribute to the much-missed Ben Bracket that kickstarted the festval). Along with material released collaboratively as Cyantific and Signal Type, Matt has two essential electro 12"s out under his own name for London's Rebel Intelligence collective. Like his set from 2010's Bloc Weekend, this is the real deal. Play it loud. SJSA 4.2 4.3 and 4.4 Part 1 A teenage girl enters an asylum, and approaches The Vault of Secrets. She tries to access it, but only has one disc. She is then confronted by The Alliance of Shades, so she escapes, injures herself and falls over. Androvax exits her body, and escapes. The Alliance of Shades (a.k.a Men In Black) arrive at the scene, and scan the unconscious girl. The Veil is declared no longer in her. Sarah Jane, Clyde and Rani are in the attic, speaking to Luke on webcam, and Mr Smith interferes with a NASA space probe on Mars, to prevent it discovering an ancient and deadly civilisation. Gita and her husband Haresh have joined B.U.R.P.S.S. (The British UFO Research and Paranormal Studies Society) due to Gita's encounter with the Judoon and Androvax in the past. When the couple arrive home on Bannerman Road, Gita spots Androvax entering Sarah Jane's front garden. Haresh arms himself and goes to investigate, and encounters Sarah Jane, Rani and Clyde. Haresh leaves after a conversation with them, and Androvax enters Rani's body. Sarah Jane scans for alien activity, and realises Rani has been taken over. Sarah Jane and Clyde chase her/him to the attic, and order Mr Smith to contain him after exiting Rani's body. They discover that Androvax is dying, having escaped a prison in a swamp and been poisoned by an alien viper. He intends to free 100 of his people from cryogenic sleep in The Vault of Secrets - the last survivors of the Veil species, aside from Androvax himself. Ocean Waters, the founder of B.U.R.P.S.S., arrives with Minty to scan for alien activity by picking up Beta particles. Sarah Jane uses her Sonic lipstick to deactivate this device. The three of them go to investigate at a mental asylum, where they encounter the base of the Men In Black. They are detected, and the Men In Black go to confront them. They discover that Ocean Waters was abducted in 1972 and encountered the Men In Black. The Men In Black then arrive to confront them, and activate their robotic hands. They tell Sarah Jane she must hand over Androvax and their disc, or prepare to be incinerated. The gang arrive home, where they agree with Androvax to let him use Clyde's body. They then speak to Ocean and Minty. Ocean turns out to have the other disc required to enter the Vault, and she recalls past encounters with the Men In Black and Mister Dread. Then the Men In Black arrive and tell them they must prepare to be incinerated. [] Part 2 The incineration is averted, Androvax escapes and enters Gita's body. Gita leaves for the Vault, and is followed by Mister Dread, Sarah Jane, Rani and Clyde. Sarah Jane causes Mister Dread's car to malfunction, so he acquires a new one. They all arrive at the asylum, where Rani and Clyde rescue Gita. Androvax then leaves and encounters Sarah Jane. Sarah Jane refuses to help him because when the Veil are reawakened and leave Earth, the spaceships will cause Earth to explode, ending the human civilisation. Sarah Jane's body is then taken over by Androvax. Clyde jumps away from an incineration blast from two Men In Black, and the two men destroy each other. Rani explains to her mother about aliens, and how Sarah Jane, she and Clyde have encountered them. Mister Dread is placed into his capsule and made to sleep. Androvax goes to the Vault, in Sarah Jane's body, pretending to be her. He/she opens the Vault, revealing many spaceships, much to Gita's surprise. Androvax then leaves Sarah's body, and locks himself inside the Vault, which uses a Transmat to make it bigger on the inside. The team awaken Mister Dread, who gives up 450 years of his energy to allow Androvax and his race to leave Earth without harming anybody, by being beamed into space. Mister Dread now lacks power, and declares his mission terminated. He erases the memory of Gita, who intends to tell the world about their experiences, and goes to sleep in his capsule. The team return home, and Ocean and Minty arrive to ask about the Men In Black. Sarah Jane denies everything and Gita says she doesn't believe in aliens. Minty and Ocean say that the aliens have won again and decide to leave. In outer space, Androvax flies away to find a new world, having saved his species. Sarah Jane, Rani and Clyde are talking to Luke via webcam but are interrupted when Mr Smith alerts them that a armed forces convoy is converging on the house. The commanding officer, Colonel Karim, informs the group that is dead, despite Sarah Jane's protests that it can't be possible. It is claimed that the Doctor died in the Wastelands of the Crimson Heart, where he had saved the lives of 500 children from the Scarlet Monstrosity. A race called the Shansheeth have retrieved the body and are holding a funeral for the Doctor at UNIT Base 5, buried underground at the foot of Mount Snowdon. Sarah Jane still believes that the Doctor must be alive, and so goes along to search for evidence that it is a hoax. Upon arrival at the base they find that a small number of other mourners have been invited, as few survive their encounters with the Doctor. Many also couldn't make it including the , who is stranded in . The team also find, to their surprise a Groske working in the base, a blue skinned cousin of the Graske race they have had problems with in the past. The Doctor's body is to be blasted into space via a huge rocket, built by the Groske. They proceed to the ceremony of remembrance, however Clyde's left hand develops a growing blue electric charge, which he is unnerved at. At the ceremony, music is played which recalls memories for all about the Doctor; for Sarah Jane it is memories of the and Doctors, while for Rani and Clyde it is their encounters with the Doctor at . Clyde then realises that the charge is Artron energy, which he had previously carried after touching the vanishing at the wedding. The ceremony is interrupted by the clumsy arrival of , as she drops a vase of flowers. She is accompanied by her grandson, Santiago. The two former companions chat, as do the children, and both women agree that they are sure that the Doctor must still be alive. In their dormitory, the two women make a list of enemies that might try to fake the Doctor's death, while the children leave and wander round the base. Outside the room, Clyde again receives a shock on his hand and reveals the affliction to the other two. They encounter the lead Groske again, who informs them that the rising artron energy signals that an unidentified someone is getting closer and closer. Clyde, desperate to find out more pursues the Groske down an air vent, where they watch as the Shansheeth plot to make the two companions relive their days with the Doctor and therefore drain their minds for an unknown purpose, killing them in the process. The Shansheeth play music down the ventilation shafts to the former companions, where they start to recollect their adventures with the Doctor. The children are discovered by the Shansheeth when another artron energy discharge gives away their position. The children flee and run into Sarah Jane and Jo who sense they are in trouble. After recollecting what the Shansheeth are doing, they are surprised to hear an adult male talking through Clyde's mouth. However, the next minute Clyde appears normal. He then gains the Doctor's hand before seemingly morphing into . The Doctor, now in the UNIT base, explains that he used Clyde's residual Artron Energy to make a complicated swap of 10,000 light years. The result of this is, as the Doctor realises, is that he can fight the Shansheeth while Clyde however is where the Doctor just was: trapped in danger on an alien world. Sarah Jane realises that the man standing before them is the Doctor's newest incarnation shortly before the Shansheeth catch up with the group where the Doctor confronts them. A Shansheeth quips that they will ensure their announcement of the Doctor's death is correct this time, they then proceed to launch a beam of energy from their claws at him, causing him to yelp in pain and collapse to the floor. [] Part 2 The Doctor disappears and Clyde reappears—they have swapped places again. Clyde, Jo, Rani, Santiago and Sarah Jane run away from the Shansheeth to safety, the Doctor swapping places again with Clyde part way. The Doctor, Jo and Sarah swap places with Clyde and go to the alien planet, where they talk. The Doctor says that he visited Jo before he regenerated and told Jo that he had been into her future and seen her thirteenth grandchild. The Doctor works on perfecting the machine which allowed them to swap places with Clyde. When fixed, it can transport them without needing to swap with Clyde. Clyde and Rani talk with Santiago, who reveals he hasn't spoken to his parents in six months. Colonel Karim meanwhile is with the Shansheeth, and they are plotting to use Jo and Sarah Jane's memories of the to create a new TARDIS Key, so the Shansheeth can stop death across the universe by interfering with the timelines and so that Colonel Karim, in return, shall visit the stars because she has nothing left for her on Earth. Rani, Santiago, Clyde and a Groske try to get through the ventilation shafts, but Colonel Karim heats the shafts up, until the children are in danger of roasting. The Doctor, Jo and Sarah Jane go to the rescue, but Jo and Sarah Jane are kidnapped and the Doctor must go on alone. Sarah Jane and Jo are strapped up and the Memory Weave is used on them. Their minds are scanned and they begin remembering the TARDIS, these memories generate a new TARDIS Key as the Shansheeth and Colonel Karim make their intentions clear. The Doctor, Rani, Clyde, Santiago and a Groske come to the room Sarah Jane and Jo are in and tell them to remember other experiences. Sarah Jane and Jo both remember past encounters with the Doctor and all the creatures and enemies they met. Jo remembers all the countries she has been to as Sarah Jane remembers her battles with aliens. The memory weave overloads and explodes, the room is on fire. Sarah Jane and Jo hide in the lead coffin and shut themselves inside to survive the explosion. Later, they are taken to Sarah Jane's house, alive and well. In 1995, I was completely emerged in the Detroit rave scene. I wasn't always super social, as talking with people was never really in the cards for the evening. But, after the music was off there would be some milling about and at that point, I would meet a few people. Garrett McGrath was one of those people for me. I think we met by me commenting on his T-shirt, which I'm pretty sure was either a Tresor or Transmat shirt.... I can't remember exactly. From then on, I would see him out rather regularly and we would have quick chats and such. Eventually, I saw him on the 313 list on Hyperreal, as well. He at some point moved out to Los Angeles, and our paths stopped crossing regularly. We were never really close, but I always thought he was a cool guy. And when Snowprayers launched, he dropped me an email digging the concept and asked if he could do an edition. Since I've always known he had good taste in Techno, I had no doubt he would deliver a rock solid contribution for this series. So, thank you for tuning in yet again, and thank you to Garrett as well. I hope doing this reminded you of how much you miss Fall. (photo credit: Wayne Harrison)
