Today, we bring you a conversation with Susan Sgorbati, Director of the Center for the Advancement of Public Action at Bennington College. In conversation with Lida Winfield, the undergraduate pillar head of the CT Collaborative and dance professor, Susan shares insights from her journey as a dance artist and educator, and how the principles of dance improvisation inform her work in conflict mediation and social justice. They explore how embodied practices, active listening, and improvisational skills can foster collaboration and create transformative change in both artistic and social contexts. Sgorbati is the former Dean of Faculty and holds the Barbara and Lewis Jones Chair for Social Activism. In 2018, Sgorbati co-founded the Transboundary Water In-Cooperation Network (TWIN) with Dr. Asim Zia. TWIN works with communities on six continents in the major river basins of the world. She is also a partner with the African Centre for Climate Action and Rural Development in moving a new Convention forward on Saving the River Deltas for the United Nations (UNCCRD). In collaboration and conversation with scientists, Sgorbati named a form of improvisation, 'emergent improvisation' and wrote a book called, "Emergent Improvisation: On Spontaneous Composition Where Dance Meets Science". She also co-founded "Quantum Leap" a program that connected public school students to their education who were at risk of dropping out of school. Over 2000 students participated in this program. Sgorbati completed two projects for the US State Dept. Art in Embassies with Sarah Tanguay and Jon Isherwood, who collaborated with a student collective in creating two public art installations for the new US Embassy in Oslo, Norway and for the new US Consulate in Chiang Mai, Thailand. This is a re-posting of an episode from Lida Winfield's podcast, Making Embodiment Visible. AP correspondent Charles de Ledesma reports Russia sentences a former U.S. consulate worker to nearly 5 years in prison.
Skye Lynn Budnick has been missing since April 2008 after she traveled to Japan without informing her family. She was last seen on April 7, 2008 at an inn in Hokkaido, Japan, where she had told staff she planned to visit Sapporo. Skye had long been interested in Japanese culture and had studied the language for three years, though her fluency was limited. Her family reported her missing on April 4 after discovering that she had booked a one-way flight to Japan. Skye, who had been struggling with depression, did not take any luggage except for her computer, which remains missing. An unsent email resembling a possible suicide note was found in her account. Despite her family's efforts to find her, Skye has not been seen or heard from since April 7, and her whereabouts remain unknown. If anyone has information, they are encouraged to contact the US Consulate in Sapporo, Japan.Ossuary 6 - Air Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 Licensehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/Contact us at: weeknightmysteries@gmail.comInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/weeknightmysteriesTikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@weeknightmysteries

1-16-24 Welcome to 2024! GotMead Live is back with Carlos Herrera, owner of the soon-to-be Texas Longhouse Meadery in Wylie, TX, just north of Dallas. Carlos has done a lot in his life so far. He spent 8 years in the army as an airborne infantryman. He was medically discharged in 2011 due to combat injuries and became a Paramedic in 2013. In 2015 decided he wasn't ready for civilian life and went back overseas as a high threat diplomatic security contractor team medic. He then spent 2 years at the US Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan and a year in Northern Iraq with the US Consulate before injuring his back again. He's had 3 spinal surgeries since then. Thank you for your service, Carlos! Carlos has been solo brewing mead since 2016. He was helping an older gentleman before that who used to make it for his Norse Heathen kindred group's ceremonial purposes. They used to make it what he would call the 'old ways' (open ferment in a bucket or old wood barrel, with no nutrients, and would add the kitchen sink if they could). Carlos thought there was a better way to do it so he started off on his own and learned a lot long the way thanks to people like Carvin Wilson, Tom Repas, Ken Schramm, and others. He decided to go commercial after winning multiple awards and being pushed by his homebrew club and friends to take the leap. Carlos loves bochets, pyments, and barrel projects. Carlos is in the process of building his meadery and is going to be talking with us about his journey in licensing and building a meadery, and also about his meads. Join us to see how he's doing! Episode 21 reviews a heated online debate about the mandate Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew gave his new Health minister to establish a supervised drug consumption site in downtown Winnipeg. This, after criminal behavior and social disorder has helped drill attendance of the NHL Jets to record lows. Citing the NDP policy directive, a former city councilor tweeted: "In case you were lacking in reasons to NOT go to downtown Winnipeg—here is another one." A local sportswriter portrayed that point of view as uncaring, and claimed that critics of the proposal to enable addicts "have no clue what they have against them." Marty Gold reviews the replies and back-and-forth debate that demonstrated that in fact, Winnipeggers have very good reasons- including a Stanford study that "points towards safe injection as a grower of drug addiction and crime. Not a preventive solution." NDP apologists hate when people ask if a downtown site will negatively affect public safety as it has in other Canadian cities. But would Bernadette Smith, Nahanni Fontaine or Wab Kinew would ever live next to one? Support our local reporting! We are YOUR voice - paypal.com/paypalme/MartyGoldMedia At issue is whether overall, disease transmission, health outcomes and addiction treatment uptake actually improve, as "Recent analysis of the population-level effects of overdose prevention sites and supervised consumption sites in B.C found no changes to trends in monthly hospitalization or mortality rates." Are these sites a make-work project for the "Harm Reduction" industry? They already abandoned any accountability for used needles on our streets, as we reported 4 years ago. 22:38 Part 2 We follow up on last week's ActionLine round-up about antisemitic incidents being investigated by the Winnipeg police - read it here https://actionline.ca/2023/10/cops-investigating-10-hate-crimes-many-targeted-pro-israel-jews/ - Hear about plans for rallies coming up, and the plan to target the offices of a Jewish MP and the US Consulate. - A brief round-up of Jew-haters caught in the act in the US and Canada, and the slanted pro-Hamas language used by the BBC and emulated by other "trusted news organizations." Hear how Campaign Against Antisemitism @antisemitism is standing up against biased police in the UK who fear the Islamist mob and prevent Jews publicizing the Oct. 7 hostage-taking by terrorists. - The TGCTS podcast was first to report on a Jewish home in River Heights being shot at. This week we reveal that Jewish students in Winnipeg are being spit on and harassed, and are fearful of repercussions if they report the assaults to authorities. How will Wab Kinew's Education Department respond? Related: The province did nothing about U of Winnipeg Collegiate student athletes after pro-Hamas chants and antisemitic conduct last March, which the Winnipeg media also ignored: https://actionline.ca/2023/02/feb-21-2023-why-the-free-press-didnt-report-the-antisemitism-behind-u-of-w-collegiate-team-incident/ 43:00 Part 3 - Hamas vows to repeat their slaughter of Jews At least 2 journalists in Canada claim to be victims of "Islamophobia" after being fired after celebrating the butchering of innocent civilians as an act of "resistance". Meanwhile Prime Minister Trudeau, who has thrown billions at Jew-hating regimes overseas, holds selective, unannounced meetings with the Hamas sympathizers while the NDP caucus that props up his government assails Israel for defending their country. What does "proportionality" mean to "progressives"? In conclusion, listeners are told how Jewish Canadians now fear for their personal safety, and are asked the question- what would you have done in the 1930s when Jews were threatened and attacked? Is it what you are doing today? Related: Oct 17 2023- Hamas Celebrated Across Canada, "Where Evil Comes To Thrive" Twitter @TGCTS JOIN OUR FACEBOOK GROUP https://www.facebook.com/groups/TGCTS

Libya has figured prominently in recent headlines. These days, it's floods that have devastated Eastern Libya and killed more than 5000 people, days after a catastrophic earthquake rocked Morocco like much else. Some 10,000 people are missing. The floods could not have occurred at a worse moment for Haftar. The short-lived mutiny in June by the Wagner Group has cast a shadow over Russian backing for the rebel leader. Add to this, recent protests following a controversial meeting in Rome between the foreign ministers of Libya and Israel, raised the spectre of a disconnect between Middle East and governments and public opinion. Overall, Libya may not be the most influential player in the Middle East, but the impact of what happens in Libya resonates across the region and beyond frequently impacting the domestic policies of countries like the United States, France and Italy. My guest today, Ethan Chorin, notes that Libya, if ignored, “may be marginal for policy formation, but it's poisonous when neglected.” A former US diplomat, who served in Libya and elsewhere in the Middle East East, Ethan skipped a dinner a decade ago with US Ambassador Christopher Stevens at the US Consulate in Benghazi. Mr. Stevens and three other Americans were killed that night in an attack by Islamic militants on the consulate.

Dave Benton also known as “Boon” was one of the Global Response Staff of the CIA working in Benghazi during the terrorist attack on September 11, 2012. During that attack, Dave and his partners attempted to rescue the US Ambassador and defend the CIA Annex while completely outnumbered. This account was told in the book “13 Hours” as well as the great movie of the same name. Sarah Adams also worked for the CIA as a Targeter and was in Benghazi leading up to that fateful day. Many years after that attack, Dave and Sarah decided to write a book not only explaining what led up to the attack but also started a cold-case investigation into all the terrorists who perpetrated the attack and provide a detailed dossier on each of them. Points from the podcast: -Dave explains how training was the best preparation for dealing with the attack and their response. -Dave and Sarah break down what led up to the attack on the US Consulate and why the media and Obama Administration covered it up. -Dave and Sarah share how we need to be prepared for more attacks in the future since we have given up on Afghanistan and now it's back to being a safe haven for terrorists.

In this episode, I open with the stunning revelation just dropped in the New York Times – the Hunter Biden laptop story is real. What? I thought that story was how the New York Post was deplatformed on Twitter? I thought that story was called a Russian hoax by White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki and many other in the administration. I thought the legacy media, with help from their willing accomplices in Big Tech, said it was nothing but misinformation and a huge conspiracy theory. I don't know about all of you, but I never get tired of being right, even if it takes those some Democrat propaganda outlets from finally coming to the same conclusions we all did 12-18 months earlier. But, let's not kid ourselves. They legacy media knew it was a real story. The White House also knew it was real. But it was in the midst of a presidential election where an unprecedented number of ballots were going to be mailed in or dropped in boxes. Nothing was going to be allowed that might taint the direction those outlets wanted the election to go. Not only do we have an inept and disastrous White House when it comes to just about every policy move, but also an immensely dangerous one. Just days after Iran tried to take out an US Consulate in Iraq with a missile barrage, we now find out the new nuclear agreement with Iran will allow Russia to earn upwards of $10 billion dollars for nuclear work in Iran. Understand that we have an administration who is telling us they are enforcing “crippling” sanctions (their words, which we know are not true) designed to hurt Russia's economy, only to be working on green-lighting a deal that would provide Moscow with a critical source of revenue! It's astounding to see this happening in real-time and it seems like no one understand how terrible this is. The radicals in the Democrat party and in the White House are doing all they can to, as I said in yesterday's show, fundamentally transform this nation. And they are being so brazen because they know time is short. In a brand new Pew Research Poll, it seems as thought 71% of Americans want to see the Keystone XL pipeline resumed and they favor more domestic energy production. To reach 71%, there has to be more than just Republicans in that poll. That means this White House is realizing they are losing support from democrat voters. To give one more example of the sheer ineptitude of our most powerful leaders in Congress, we turn to a recent Q&A with House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi. I don't know what meds she takes or how many shots she uses to wash them down, but it's horrific to think she is considered the 3rd most powerful member of our Federal government. Finally, I close with a tease of an upcoming special episode of The Alan Sanders Show. I had the chance to chat with Governor Brian Kemp of the state of Georgia and spent nearly 30 minutes discussing his first four years in office, the highs and lows and his re-election campaign. It was a great conversation and I am looking forward to bringing it to you in the coming days. Take a moment to rate and review the show and then share the episode on social media. You can find me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, GETTR and TRUTH Social by searching for The Alan Sanders Show.
A pregnant woman and her baby have died after Russia bombed the maternity hospital where she was meant to give birth, The Associated Press has learned. Images of the woman being rushed to an ambulance on a stretcher had circled the world, epitomizing the horror of an attack on humanity's most innocent. A series of missiles were fired Sunday from Iran in the direction of the U.S. consulate in Erbil, Iraq, a senior U.S. official told Fox News. Beijing has pushed back on reports that Russia had asked China for military equipment and other support following the start of its invasion of Ukraine, saying on Monday that “the U.S. has been spreading disinformation and this is very dangerous.” See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Remote station chiefs Erik and Ben liaison for another episode and check in with the Central Intelligence Agency and what it was up to in the 90s when it wasn't dodging questions about BCCI. We introduce the cast of characters including bearded lunatic/podcasting brother Mike Scheuer, professional ghost Richard Blee and blood drinking vampire Cofer Black. We laugh at some of the more harebrained early schemes to kill Osama, talk about the toxic culture of Alec Station and set the table for a petty slap fight with the FBI that ends with ~3,000 dead Americans. Pus Ben proposes a bold podcast exchange program with Two Mikes. Join us next time for a brief interlude before we get to know Osama Bin Laden and Al Qaeda. In which Ben drives himself insane telling the story of a young American woman who just wanted to do her best working at a US Consulate in Jeddah. Music by: Tristan Cappel
Diego Mariscal is disabled and proud! He is also very passionate and strategic about the relationship between disability advocacy, entrepreneurship, and sustainable impact. At the age of 18, Diego started “Limitless Prepa Tec” a disability education program for students in Monterrey Mexico. In four years, the program expanded to seven high schools across the country, reaching more than 3,000 students nationwide. To this day, Limitless continues to be one of the largest youth-led programs in Monterrey Mexico, working to educate students about disabilities. Protesters Call on U.S. to “Liberate” Hong KongGuest: Eric Hyer, PhD, Professor of Political Science, BYUThere were more protests and clashes with police in Hong Kong over the weekend. These demonstrations have been going on since mid-June and they're continuing, even though Hong Kong's leader has withdrawn the extradition bill that sparked the protests in the first place. On Sunday, thousands protested outside the US Consulate in Hong Kong urging President Trump to “liberate” Hong Kong from Chinese control. Despite an Incredible History, The Future of Heart Disease Treatment Will Require Serious WorkGuest: Dr. Haider Warraich, MD, Cardiologist and Clinical Researcher, Harvard University, Author of “State of the Heart”Just a generation ago, having a heart attack was an automatic death sentence. Today open heart surgery, pacemakers, stents and artificial valves make it possible for people with weak or damaged hearts to live long lives. Statins to prevent heart disease from cholesterol build-up are the most-prescribed medication in the country. And yet, heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the US. And that's true for both men and women. The hidden waterways beneath Greenland's iceGuest: Kristin Poinar, Assistant Professor of Geophysics at the State University of New York At BuffaloGreenland is the world's largest island –and it's an autonomous territory of Denmark, which I only learned recently when President Trump started talking about wanting to buy it. But there's some very serious news out of Greenland on the scientific front, related to how quickly the ice sheet that covers it is melting. The Case for More ForgettingGuest: Viktor Mayer-Schönberger, Professor of Internet Governance and Regulation, Oxford University, author of “Delete: The Virtue of Forgetting in the Digital Age”When was the last time you wished your memory was worse? I don't think that's even a thing. Mainly we're just trying to keep a handle on the stuff we do need to remember. But Viktor Mayer-Schonberger thinks we'd be better off if we forgot more. Specifically, he argues that our digital memory needs a purge. Bringing Indigenous People's Perspectives to National ParksGuest: Ed DesRosier, Founder of Sun Tours and Native Business Top 50 Entrepreneurs HonoreeGlacier National Park in Montana is one of the few places in the country where you can take a bus tour with the stories and perspectives of indigenous people for whom the park has always been “home.” Glacier National Park is the ancestral home of the Blackfeet Nation. Huge swaths of it were once part of the tribe's reservation, which shares a long border with the park. But the Blackfeet Nation has struggled to capitalize on the tourism dollars the park brings in. Ed DesRosiers was an early pioneer in that effort. He's an enrolled member of the Blackfeet Nation and fought a long court battle to become one of the few indigenous people in the country licensed to operate a tour business in a national park.
