In long-term sexual relationships, partners aren't always on the same page about sex. This is normal. However, when a sexual desire discrepancy becomes large and persistent, it can become a significant source of conflict and distress. So let's talk about how to navigate desire discrepancies. This is the first episode in a two-part series on the subject. Today, we're going to discuss what to do when you're the one who wants less sex. In the next episode, we're going to talk about the flipside: what to do when you're the partner who wants more sex. My guest is Dr. Lauren Fogel Mersy, a licensed psychologist and AASECT certified sex therapist. She is the co-author of the forthcoming book, Desire: An Inclusive Guide to Navigating Libido Differences in Relationships. Her co-author of this book, Jennifer Vencill, will join me for the next episode. Some of the topics we discuss include: How common are sexual desire discrepancies? What are some of the factors that can negatively affect libido and lead to a decline in sexual desire? What does it really mean to have "low libido?" Is your libido actually low, or does it just seem low compared to your partner? What are some strategies for reconnecting with your partner when dealing with low libido? What is sensate focus, and how can it be helpful in dealing with a sexual desire discrepancy? To learn more, make sure to check out Lauren's website and connect with her on Instagram. You know how the number of sheep in New Zealand is down? That's according to stats which came out a month or so ago which, of course, prompted a fresh round of sheep jokes - especially across the Tasman. Well, they are - and even though we might still have a fair number of sheep, I reckon there's another breed that we're being outnumbered by - and that's local councillors. Maybe not as many as once had when we had all those borough councils around the place. But even without them, we just have so many councils. All of them with their mayors running around in the mayoral chains, all of them with top-earning chief executives, all of them struggling to pay the bills, and all of them pretty much charging as much as they possibly can get away with in rates to cover all the costs. Which is why I am delighted by this new government report which has come out saying the time has well-and-truly come for us to have a re-think about how many councils and councillors we have running things. I've long been an advocate for having less councils in the immediate Christchurch area. This hasn't been me saying I think the city council is absolutely brilliant and the other Greater Christchurch councils aren't. In fact, going by what people tell me, it's probably the complete opposite. Christchurch council has shown itself to be a bit of a basket case on a number of occasions - and I know people in the likes of Selwyn and Waimakariri have looked sideways a bit and come to the conclusion that the last thing they'd want would to be lumped in with the crowd on Hereford Street. And that has actually tested my resolve when it comes to my support for amalgamation to create a Greater Christchurch super city structure. But I've always come back to the fact that the greater Christchurch area has more mayors and councillors than the whole of Auckland. Nutbar. And that's not even counting the ECAN regional council. Amalgamation of councils isn't the only thing recommended in this report by the Panel for the Review into the Future of Local Government. Which, as an aside, is a refreshingly boring title for something like this. Often these sorts of things have names with a little bit more pizazz but, at the same time, are totally meaningless. They could've called this thing something like Democracy 2050 - A Pathway for All of Us. Thankfully, they didn't. And it's not just amalgamation of councils that's covered in it. The panel's report also recommends four-year terms for councils (I like that idea too). It thinks the voting age for local body elections should be 16 (that gets the tick from me). It also says there should be more of what it calls “Treaty-based appointments” to local councils. That's the sort of thing we've seen with Environment Canterbury, where it's introduced unelected iwi representatives with full voting rights. That'd really get the anti co-governance crew all excited. Bit I think, if we could pull it off, it would be if the current councils in the Canterbury region were amalgamated into one. But you'd keep some of the service structures in place in the different areas - things like building consents, all the day-to-day council stuff. But you'd have one mayor and one set of councillors. That would get my vote.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Do you have periods that just plain SUCK?! Yeah, I use to, too. Listen to today's show to hear how to reduce period sucky-ness BIG time, with simple techniques. I share today: 1. My period story 2. Why I started taking magnesium and the results of doing so 3. What is Seed Cycling? 4. How I eat the different seeds in a joyful and yummy way each week 5. The benefits I've seen after one month of doing Seed Cycling *** Note: I forgot to mention this in the episode but don't heat your seeds up. If throwing them into something hot, like a stir-fry or warm oatmeal, wait to toss them in AFTER cooking and once everything has cooled slightly. And I didn't mention that another benefit of Seed Cycling is increased fertility and getting your period back, even if it's been gone-zo for years! So cool. right???!!! *** Also note: The podcast below about Cycle Syncing has some mention of moon stuff, but I'm not so sure how legit that is so I just skipped that part! Lots of other very helpful info in that podcast though! Eat the fish, spit out the bones when it comes to info! The separate Country of WA State is the leading indicator of what The Left intends to do to America. Here's some of the what's coming: they intend to ban semi-automatic rifles owned by people who have never broken a law. They intend to make sure school-shooters and drive-by shooters get less prison time. Yes, this is in the same legislative session. The AP is helping them in their pursuit by pretending AR-15s are used in most murders carried out using guns. This is all being done in a Country where you would literally commit a felony if you let your Dad shoot one of your weapons without doing a background check on him. It's tempting to say this is all play-acting, but this is a State that recently attempted to pass into law a Bill that would put people in prison for wrongspeak, so one can understand why the dictator, Jay Inslee, doesn't want people armed with weapons capable of effectively defending their homes.Down the Left Coast, Stephen Colbert shared his version of Jesus while his well-trained audience hooted along. Colbert's Jesus bares a remarkable likeness to Big Brother. He appears to believe in the same, fictional Jesus as Hillary Clinton, to whom the Mockingbirds have now turned to get real advice on how to run a successful military effort as The Party continues to push us to give even more to Ukraine . . . Colbert's fake Jesus would approve, of course. What does God say? We are to be charitable people, we are to be cheerful givers . . . it does not say: “aggressive takers.” 2 Corinthians 9:6-7The Cheerful Giver6 The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. The Lord Jesus told us to pay taxes because the coins belonged to Caesar. Jesus did not say that we are to turn to government to care for people, that is our job.Mark 12:1717 Then Jesus said to them, “Give back to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's.”And they were amazed at him. BREAKING: WA State House passes “assault” weapon ban on a 55-42 vote. Now heads to state Senate.Democrat bill goes easy on school shooters, campus drug dealersYesterday, Colbert compared Samuel Alito to the Taliban. Today, Colbert says Republicans are bad Christians, "[The Potential GOP Budget] echoes the word of our Lord, 'For I was hungry and you said, 'hey, who gave you that free food? Slap that fish out of his dirty little mouth!'"Breaking: Censored video re-emerges of Jacob Chansley reading Trump's tweet, telling protestors to GO HOME and remain peaceful.MSM Try to Makeover ‘Merchant of Death' Released by Biden as a Real Artist; 'Life can always change drastically... Lynne Twist's The Soul of Money sparked a conversation we needed to have. It didn't make people think “how do I make more money,” instead it asked, “what world am I making with the money I have?” For decades, Lynne has beenfundraising for charities and causes around the globe. From ending world hunger to fighting for the climate, she's made sure that her dollars are best put to use, helping the most people she can with the money she makes.Lynne's rock-solid financial sense came from an unusual background. Her mother was raised well-off, but her family's wealth came crashing down when they were forced to flee the home abroad they had made for themselves. Then, when Lynne's father died, her mother became increasingly frugal, but for a good reason. Lynne's mother wanted to use her money to give, not get, making every cent count in the budget. Later in life, Lynne and her husband lost a massive portion of their wealth, forcing her to ask the question—why pursue riches in the first place? On today's show, we have a lively discussion on the toxic money culture that has enveloped American society, why financial independence is worth pursuing, and what those with much can do to help those with so little. Lynne's take on wealth-building opens up a refreshing debate among early retirees and forces you to ask “why” instead of “how” when it comes to making money. Tune in, and be sure to check out Lynne's new book, Living a Committed Life! In This Episode We CoverThe “soul” of money and the scarcity belief that is causing society's financial anxiety When is “enough” and how making less but giving more makes you richerThe importance of self-sufficiency and why chasing financial freedom is always a worthwhile goalLearning to forgive yourself for money mistakes and why losing wealth isn't always a bad thingFighting world hunger and how Lynne is using her voice to tackle huge global issuesLynne's brand new book, Living a Committed Life! When you think about your next chapter, what do you imagine it to be like? How will it differ from yesterday? What things do you want to continue or carry over into this new chapter? One of the most exciting things about planning your next chapter is the ability to design it exactly how YOU want it to be. Welcome to episode 4 of The Habit Thrive Podcast! Today, I am talking about taking a moment, taking a breath, and considering those things in life that make you feel happier, more fulfilled, more successful … more "you." At the same time, considering those things that you can release and let go of as you move into your next chapter, whether that chapter is next week, next month or next year. So ask yourself: What do I want MORE of? What do I want LESS of? What brings you joy? What fills your cup? Is it singing, dancing, traveling, gardening, painting, cooking, yoga? Let the ideas and images rise to the surface. What drags you down, depletes you and you could absolutely do with less of? It is worry, pain, procrastination, clutter, sugar? What bubbles up? Letting go of what no longer serves us makes room for what does. You can have all of this and more (or less!). It's all about you and what makes your next chapter feel just right. So I challenge you this week to think about the things you want more or less of. Consider the prompts and ideas from the podcast. Take notes, and then take action! And remember: Keep being you, nobody else does you better than you! Lorrie Loving the show? Let's connect! In this episode I'm experimenting with something new: I've devised an exercise to help you figure out how to enjoy the process of reaching goals, not just the idea of reaching them. This exercise has a twofold purpose: to help you find more fulfillment and happiness in your day-to-day lives, and to help you develop internal motivation that is strong enough to keep you working toward goals past that initial burst of enthusiasm. This exercise is one I've done myself in various ways over the years in condensed form. I hope you find it useful in some way!"How to Want Less," by Arthur C. You want to have your dreams more than you want to have your drama Well what does that mean? It means that dreaming and drama cannot coexist. Drama is when there's always things happening that prevent you from having your dreams. Pay attention to the drama in your world, slow it down, focus on the things that you really want and move away from the things that you do not want. Drama is so draining. I love you. “Express yourself with clarity, confidence, and compassion.” This is the tagline for Language Alchemy, and it's also a recipe for communication success. When you not only commit it to memory, but put it into practice, you'll find it easier to meaningfully connect with others. If you're wondering where to begin, I first recommend you focus on clarity. Speaking clearly sounds deceptively simple. However, it requires a level of empathy for your listener and an ability to see your words from different angles. How might other people perceive what you said? Once you're aware of unclear language, then you must become aware of how to interrupt your unhelpful communication patterns. Thankfully, there are guidelines to avoiding these pitfalls. This is part 1 of a 3-part series on communicating with clarity, confidence, and compassion. These make the foundation of effective communication, and you'll see that as you examine each element and put them into practice. When you practice clarity in particular, you'll experience smoother, more peaceful interactions in your relationships. Takeaways from this episode: -If communication is unclear, it leaves room for misunderstanding – and misunderstandings are the shortcut to conflict. -Being specific helps you communicate with clarity. -When communicating, lead with your intention: Why do you want to say what you want to say? - Unclear communication leads to inefficiency. It can lead to confusion and unnecessary back and forth communication. --- LINKS FROM THIS EPISODE: For more resources about communication, go to: https://www.languagealchemy.com/blogandvideo To ask your communication questions, click here: https://www.languagealchemy.com/podcastquestion To join the mailing list, visit: www.languagealchemy.com Podcast Music composed by Gary Lapow: https://open.spotify.com/artist/1HlMhcNfKIELxYil5mVqDI Produced by The Podcast Space, LLC.
Welcome to "3 Minute Thursday" (#ThreeMinuteThursday) where Pooja shares a weekly nugget of wisdom in just a few minutes. --The idea – that the more you want the more you suffer – is a basic tenant of Buddhism and many other spiritual and religious traditions. The Buddha believed that most suffering is caused by a tendency to crave things. These things might be exact and tangible like wanting to own a sports car or getting to 100K followers on Twitter, or more amorphous, like just not feeling content in the now – wanting to be somewhere else or do something else.Think about how much wanting happens in your own life. How often do you think about wanting things or experiences or situations?Legendary coach John Wooden, didn't need to study eastern philosophy to figure this out. He wrote in his 1997 book, Wooden that: “It is my observation that the primary cause of unhappiness for most people is simply wanting too much: expecting too much materially, chasing the dollar, overemphasizing the material things. When they don't arrive, unhappiness does.Eckert Tolle, the author of book The Power of Now, links wanting with stress: he says “Stress is caused by being here but wanting to be there.”How often do you want to be there instead of here. How often are you playing for later, hoping that when you get the things you want you will be happy?---If you want to read more of my essays on living calm and free, please sign up to my newsletter by following me on LinkedIn.--For more from Host Pooja Mottl: www.PoojaMottl.comPodcast Producer: www.Go-ToProductions.comTwitter: @PoojaMottlInstagram: @TheCalmandFreePodcast and @PoojaMottl LinkedIn: @PoojaMottlSpecial Thanks : Kris Kosach of the TPR Podcast for lending her VO for our Podcast Intro.Jessica Panian for her help with our graphic design. Episode Summary:In this week's episode, we share 30+ years of wisdom and advice from our combined 30+ years working in Corporate America. We talk through our experiences working in Corporate America, what we've learned, and what has made us successful over the years. We share the importance of worrying about yourself, being kind, choosing your battles, making good choices, being indispensable, always looking for solutions, giving back, and taking care of yourself. If you do all these things, we believe you'll find career success, and with that comes money, so continue building strong financial habits. Episode Notes:Mike has spent most of his corporate career working in corporate finance-related roles, and Maggie has spent most of her career working in digital marketing, marketing strategy, and eCommerce product management. We've both been successful and well thought of and been paid well as a result. We've learned a lot over the years. Here is our biggest career advice to all of our listeners:Worry about yourself. The only person you can control is yourself. Don't compare yourself to others, in your head, or aloud to your superiors and colleagues.Be nice. Bodhicitta, "enlightenment-mind, is the mind that strives toward awakening, empathy, and compassion for the benefit of all sentient beings.” Find your empathy and compassion towards other people. Assume the best. Play nicely with others.Make good choices. Life is made up of choices. You choose your path. You choose your response. You choose your attitude.Work with intention. Take a step back and decide who you are. Be mindful, and define your purpose. Focus on the journey and not the destination.Speak the truth. Say what you think. Give feedback. Practice radical candor. Care enough to be honest. Be a part of the solution.Be a linchpin. Do the work. Don't phone it in. Don't care about credit; care about change. Provide such value that you are not easily replaced.Better is possible. We are all a work in progress. We are all imperfect. Drive positive change in the face of negative conditions, and appreciate where we are.Less is more. Simplicity. Minimalism. Want Less. Do More.Give back. At work and outside of work. You are wealthy. Effective Altruism. Conscious Capitalism. Leave things better than when you came.Take care of yourself. Eat Well. Sleep. Exercise. Meditate. Take your vacation.Be you, whoever that is. Lean in to what makes you you. Practice who you wish to become.Top 3 Takeaways:It takes hard work to be successful. It takes EQ as much as IQ, and you have to lean into the softer skills, often more so than the hard skills. As you succeed in your career, the money will come, and you need to be prepared to handle it responsibly.Show ReferencesBook: Linchpin by Seth GodinLinchpin Manifesto---Follow friends on FIRETwitterInstagramFacebookLinkedInLeave us a voicemail or text us: 404-981-3370eMail us at: friendsonfiremm@gmail.comVisit our website: www.friendsonfire.org---Other LinksMaggie's Blog: Mostly Minimal LifeMike's Book: Your New Relationship with Money

The “Great Resignation” appears to be a real thing. But why? We ask workers what they really want. Plus, 45 questions to help us understand each other, and ourselves. Recent research shows that for a lot of us, our relationship with work has evolved greatly through this ongoing pandemic. In our Labor Day episode, journalist Sarah Jaffe, author of the book Work Won't Love You Back, returns to the show to explore what's changing, and why. Plus, we hear from listeners about what they want -- and don't want -- from their jobs. Then, in a time when it's harder to deal with others, finding ways to connect in our “new normal” is becoming challenging again. So, reporter Jenny Casas introduces us to a list of questions that have helped her get to know the people around her. The list is actually a poem written by Chicago-based artist, educator and activist, Benji Hart. Its questions range from the mundane (2. Where is the least-visited corner in your home?) to the romantic (5. What is the cruelest thing you have done in love?) to the deeply personal (20. What hypocrisy in yourself have you yet to amend?). Companion listening for this episode: Capitalism vs. Time (3/8/2021) Kai and Sarah Jaffe consider the history of collective action -- and the struggle to shield our humanity from the demands of productivity. “The Necessary Work” (9/7/2020) Public and care workers have been on the frontlines of the pandemic, but who takes care of them? We explore the histories, realities and hopes of these very essential workers. “The United States of Anxiety” airs live on Sunday evenings at 6pm ET. Do you remember during last year's lockdown with verges unmown and wildflowers blooming along Tor Way? This could become the norm for 30% of the verges in the town if environmental campaigners are successful in their campaign to get the council to mow the verges later in the year and less often. The campaign by the Petersfield Climate Action Network launches this week Shine Radio's environment correspondent Beth Svarovska finds out about PeCAN's bid to create wildlife corridors throughout the town from ecologist Melanie Oxley. This week is a slow news week, but we do recognize one very outspoken developer who sounds completely fine taking money from Epic for exclusivity. Rob is super excited for Greedfall, but asks when is a good time for a AA or mid-tier game to release to avoid being swallowed up by AAA fall and spring titles. We also cover a thought provoking question: Would we want less games released throughout the year, and what would that look like? Is there a concern that indies will disappear, or could 1st and 3rd party fall in line to avoid competing with one another? Come on in and hear our thoughts!

Saying yes when you should say no can leave you feeling resentful and overwhelmed. Friends and colleagues will understand if you can't participate in every project or activity. If it's not possible to say no when your boss asks you to work overtime, try to remove something else from your agenda to make up for the lost time. It's a skill, this saying "No" thing. Half the battle is simply accepting your humanness, your inability to be everywhere or everything to everybody. Give it a try.
Ask yourself - what do you really need in life? We live in a world where we are led to believe that the more "stuff" that we have, the happier we will be. However, studies show that people who seek materialistic gains are actually much more susceptible to low self esteem and poor mental well being. It's important that we learn to be content with what we have. Dr Linda explores the less is more philosophy and offers insight in how to recognise a want from a need.
