Ulli and Daria - Understanding Life Through Learning Math and Physics

Math and Physics are two of science's fundamental and most exciting branches. For centuries, scientists have used Math and Physics to answer some of the world's most fascinating questions and help us understand the universe that we live in. But no matter how important it is in our daily lives, most students now shy away from these subjects and is disinterested in them. For this week's Outer Travel, Inner Journey, we will talk with Ulli and Daria, two teachers of Math and Physics, as we dig deeper into the cause of students' fear in these subjects and find ways to bring a positive light to it. For Ulli and Daria, the low interest and fear of taking up Math and Physics stem from how it is taught in today's educational system. These subjects are taught by teachers and educators that are not experts on the topics, making it hard to translate concepts into simple explanations. Since Physics and Math are complicated and complex, making them as basic as possible is crucial to allow students to grasp the concepts. It does not also help that the system is forcing teachers to take a shortcut in teaching these subjects with the view that not all are good at them; therefore, students won't need it. This is a struggle that Daria deals with because she believes that students must understand the whole process to connect with the subject and apply it in the real world. Both agreed that to capture the interest of their students and increase their appreciation of Math and Physics, teachers like them should engage their students based on their interests and relate them in a way that students can easily understand the concepts. For parents, it is also vital to continue being curious and open to learning themselves. This way, they can be students and models themselves for their children too. Join us to learn more about being better teachers and students in learning about ourselves and the universe in this week's episode! Parenting Young Children For the Long Run - Alexandra Scherzer

If you are a new parent, have you ever wondered why no matter how much you take care of your baby, give them milk, sway them, sing a lullaby, sometimes it's just not enough? Do you ever ask yourself if what you're doing is correct? Do you ever question why parenting portrayed by the media is different from what you are experiencing? Don't worry you are not alone. In this week's episode of Outer Travel, Inner Journey, Alexandra Scherzer, a parenting educator and counselor shares how becoming a mother pushed her to look within herself more, which made her a better parent to her child. She starts with explaining that in babies and toddlers, behavior and emotions are what we see. It is important to understand what lies under their behavior, what influences it, what part of one's parenting is going to affect their behavior, and what part of a child's in-born genes is going to affect certain behaviors. These are the factors that most parents are not aware about because these things are not explicit. She said that parents need to consider what they want for their children to be in 30 years time, and reverse engineer their strategy to support their children reach that goal. It is important for the steps to start early because the first five years of a child's life is at its most formative. What happens early on will impact what will happen to their family life 40 years from now. The way a person was raised in early childhood will impact on how they will parent in the future. It is called the Inner Parent - gut response and emotion when something happens as a parent. How you parent your child during their formative years will also be their parenting style when they themselves become one. This is why parents must focus on what they want for their child, in order to work on it on the long haul. To raise a child that can trust him/herself and his/her intuition, a parent must respect their child from the start and not try to box or conform them to what society dictates. Parenting is a long game and to develop a healthy relationship with your child, you must not try to change them. Build their confidence and uplift them by encouraging them to trust themselves. Both Alexandra's share their parenting experiences, which concluded in a realization that in parenthood and to be better parents, one still has to look from within and understand oneself. Faye Blake - Hairdressing

There are things that people do not usually talk about but are common and natural to us. Most of the time these are signals or signs from our bodies trying to communicate with us. In this episode of Outer Travel, Inner Journey, Faye Blake shares her journey of finding her inner self and how her personal experiences, including hairdressing, help her help other people in finding their inner selves. As a herbalist hairdresser and Aruyvedic coach, Faye believes that the key to living a sustainable life is to listen to the signals that our bodies tell us and not wait for the extremes. She explains that this is her way even in hairdressing, wherein she lets hair take its form and express itself. She learned this the hard way when she started hairdressing in a more traditional hair salon wherein they were expected to conform to a certain mould and have a specific image. When she tried conforming, she felt drained and coped through unhealthy addictions like smoking and alcohol. This is when Faye realized that people tend to not actively try and make a difference unless something extreme happened and forced them to do it. After quitting the salon, she found herself working with naturopathic nutritionists. Shortly afterwards she understood that what she really want to do is to empower people through listening to our bodies' wisdom and intuitive nature. Self-empowerment for her is living intuitively through listening to what the elements and energies in our bodies and not looking for answers externally. It is trusting yourself and being to speak from a place within and trusting that your voice is valid.  People who work in hairdressing, like Faye, have a gift of connecting and listening to people and reflect with them and make them feel good about themselves. They are also a reminder that we cannot do everything alone, on our own. They help us nurture ourselves by listening to what our bodies are telling us and loving the parts that we take for granted. By mirroring us, they teach us how to live intuitively and love ourselves more. I see this a lot in the body. Our emotional body and physical body is always talking. How do we a gain a conversation with it? It's by going through this more intuitive way of living. With hairdressing it's the same. What's going on within there, what does it actually wanna do, how does it wanna express. It's free expression, it's us, it's an extension of us and we're not molding it and shaping it to fit in like we do to the rest of our body in life to be in a box or how it should look. It's a real process of freedom and living in alignment of how naturally it wants to be, in alignment with nature.” - Faye Blake “For women, we tend to put a lot of other people that we care about way before ourselves. From that place they can really burn out or really go to depletion and fatigue, and total disconnect from ourself and our path and how we truly want to live.” - Faye Blake “I believe aryuveda does that with the elements and the energies and how you get to see them within your own body. That to me is your body's intuitive nature, and your body's wisdom talking, that's your body's voice.” - Faye Blake “Intuitive is self-trust, self-trusting what comes within and being able to speak from that place and not just looking externally for answers. It's a way of trusting self, trusting my own voice, and knowing that it's valid.” - Faye Blake Guest Bio Faye Blake is a naturopathic nutritionist, yoga and meditation teacher, and Ayurvedic health coach. She helps create deeply sustainable self-energy, to help people make a difference in the world without depleting and spiraling around into self-sabotaging behaviors. She promotes living intuitively through listening to what our bodies tell us. Faye loves to surround herself with a community working on their inner selves and freeing themselves from their past to create a loving and purposeful life. She is also a herbalist hairdresser at Tame the Mane Salon in Bristol, a salon that offers alternative natural hair services and products. Faye encourages people to equally nourish both their minds and bodies in a sustainable way.

However, we are at the point where we are looking for ways to improve our relationship and are exploring the middle ground between monogamy and polyamory. Tapping the Creative - Tesz Milan

Creativity is a soulful expression. A spiritual practice, even. We've seen or heard it in visual arts, music, and songs, even in dance. For many centuries, people have used the creative to express spirituality, faith, and belief. It was actually through this that it was passed on to the succeeding generations. When I encountered this episode's guest, Tesz Milan, she had left singing for over a decade but she had just finally come into owning that she was creative. To Tesz, being a creative director for other businesses is very much like a musical—you have a story that you're telling as a singer and you're creating that story for others. It was her way of connecting to all of what's unseen. And she's using her creative output as a way of drawing that energy and creating things for others to feel that for themselves in whatever shape that is in their lives. In this podcast, we give light to the realities and practicalities of and around the artistic expression. Behind every awe-inspiring act, work, or sound is a whole being poured in in the process of its creation. Tesz narrates how at the beginning, when she was starting off as a singer, difficult conversations about compensation and the struggle of finding a balance between that and cultivating the creative. In places like finance or medicine or these more easily understood professions, we have a concept as a society of how we're going to compensate for those services, whereas for artists, it's so tough. So one has to know what they're going into when venturing to art and the creative as a full-time commitment–it takes a lot of time, energy, perseverance, and courage to continue doing what artists do and not get paid right away. And as an artist, especially with as quickly as digital has taken over our world in the way that we express and communicate our artistic and creative abilities, putting oneself out there to connect with others has been both challenging and exciting at the same time. There's always a sense that if I say my mantra often enough, I probably am going to get it. But it takes real action to get things down. - Tesz Milan Music is a part of our spiritual makeup or our spiritual being. - Tesz Milan The easiest way for me to feel discouraged is when I don't feel like what I'm doing is actually reaching anybody. - Tesz Milan Guest Bio Tesz Milan, formerly a singer and performer, is a Creative Marketing Director and Copywriter. We start this episode of Outer Travel, Inner Journey with the story of how Ulli and I met, and why being in our most vulnerable state was a conducive foundation for our relationship.   The safety that we felt with each other amidst being in the middle of a sensitive and vulnerable predicament brought forth a loving support from each other with little to no judgement. While being in the mess, openness to each other brought beauty. And letting go of our guard and strength and being raw with your struggles to your partner is courageous. Elaine Butler - Changing and Loving Her Life Through Exploring Sustainability

In this episode of Outer Travel, Inner Journey, we look through the eyes of a prolific sustainable living activist, Elaine Butler. She maintains a website wherein she shares information about concepts related to sustainable living and what can people do if they want to start living in harmony with nature. Her journey started when, as a young mother, she wanted to contribute to improving the world, to be part of something bigger than herself. She joined an environmental political party in Ireland and heavily lobbied for environmental policies for 4 years. She realized in the process that the more she researched, the less she knew, especially with the basic things about environmentalism and sustainability. She noticed that even simple things like the disposable coffee cups that she drinks from are neither recyclable nor biodegradable. From then on, she kept a record of everything she was learning and shared it through her blog. For her, the last 6 years of living sustainably are not only about choosing differently, it's living with a different set of priorities. She chooses to live opposite the traditional way of overconsumption, overindulgence, and convenience. In trying to avoid buying stuff, she opts to borrow, lend, repair items or get them second-hand. To do this she connects and operates with her community, interacting with people more than the traditional way of living. Elaine underscores that taking action on climate catastrophe in every way possible should be encouraged. Instead of waiting for billionaires and large corporations and pointing fingers to act on it and be responsible, individuals can start somewhere simple which eventually, along with like-minded people, will make an impact. She emphasizes that everyone should take the first steps in protecting the planet, no matter how small that step may be. Elaine lives in a way such that the planet's health and resources will still be available for future generations to come. She said sustainability and climate chaos exposed how interconnected humanity and nature is. And being in harmony with nature is also reconnecting with ourselves and our communities. Whereas (if) we all just stand and watch the world burn pointing fingers at one another, does it really help us? Even if it's not fair, it doesn't help anybody to do that. - Elaine Butler Overall, what we have to do in the overdeveloped world is to reduce our consumption levels. They are just, completely on whack, they are not sustainable. - Elaine Butler I feel more connected to humanity. The challenge of sustainability and climate chaos is that we now are seeing how interconnected we are. - Elaine Butler I am doing this because I believe it's the right thing to do. I do think my life is so much richer and so much more rewarding doing this than it was previously where I struggled to know what my purpose was and I don't feel that now. - Elaine Butler Guest Bio Elaine Butler is a designer and environmentalist, managing her website Living Lightly Sustainably in Ireland since 2016. She shares in her website practical ways on how to live a sustainable lifestyle. She has appeared in various radio shows and contributed to a number of newspaper companies and websites. Making The Best Out of Your Every Day With Vedic Astrology - Kathleen Whalen

For thousands of years, humankind has been looking at the cosmos as a guide to our daily lives, internal and external relationships. Ancient and modern, western or eastern, there are a plethora of systems on astrology that people subscribe to in order to understand themselves and the world around them. In this episode of Outer Travel, Inner Journey, we will look at Vedic Astrology and how embodying its principles can improve the way we see things and live our lives. Kathleen Whalen, the founder of Conscious Calendars, shares with us how she and her clients are guided by Vedic Astrology in their day-to-day experiences. Kathleen starts by explaining that Vedic Astrology, which originated in India, is different from Western Astrology which is more recognizable and currently more popular in mainstream culture. It is the ancient understanding of the cosmos, rhythms of the sun and moon, and natural rhythms of people. These living tones give us indications on how to live a balanced life as an individual in a spiritual path and among people. Kathleen recognizes that there are people who are adamant in believing in such systems, thinking that astrology will dictate or interfere with their lives and decision-making. For her, Vedic Astrology offers a different perspective on a situation that one is experiencing, still in a space where people can operate based on their personal choices. She elaborated that for example, the colors in the Vedic calendar can be implicit in ways that will teach individuals to look beyond and deeper than what's on the surface to be able to truly appreciate their experiences. The practice of being aware, being present, and connecting with oneself is at the heart of being human. There are days when the actions one may take have a greater impact in the future, so taking positive steps not only for oneself but for people around them is important as well. Kathleen says that in green days, the most positive of days, sometimes you are the ones giving answers, the ones giving help to somebody, by spreading kindness. During the time of crisis in Costa Rica's real estate and industries, some of the contractors and developers lost their projects. But during the profound lull that followed the crisis, a new idea was born stirring the direction of real estate development in Costa Rica. La EcoVilla was born and it grew to become home to many. In this podcast, Marcelo Valansi shares how he started building this community. It started out as a dream and a conversation; an idea of a visionary who decided to put his dream of living in harmony with the environment into action. One of Marcelo's passions is to enjoy nature, sail, dive, travel, explore, learn from different cultures and meet new people around the world. Marcelo has extensive experience in developing residential and commercial projects of different scales in countries like Argentina, the United States, Panama, and Costa Rica. Marcelo's vision about home and his innovativeness gave birth to a new home for many other people. It started as a businessman's idea about developing new projects. But its purpose grew to regenerate a site and to create communities that leave an impact, accessible, profitable, and sustainable. Because building and caring for our community is actually part of our relationship with nature. Communities and the place we live in are meant to be a home—a place where we feel cared for, a place we care for, a place of connection, peace, and alignment. In much the same way that communities—as it is people living together more than just structures beside each other—is a source of support, sense of belongingness, and co-creation. For sure, you've read this many times before: yoga is more than just a movement exercise. While we see many videos, platforms, or even apps that offer yoga as part of a fitness program, the full meaning, and benefits of yoga are beyond the sweat and calories you burn out during each practice.   For those who've been in the practice, yoga is a mind and body practice. Yoga is a way of life—of a constant union of the mind and body into the space and energy we're moving in.   The ancient Indian practice of yoga combines meditation, breathing, and precise postures and poses to make a connection with thoughts, body, and spirit. People who practice yoga say it leads to a state of physical health, relaxation, happiness, peace, and tranquility. Its range of benefits won't fit the space for the description of this podcast! Yoga changes lives. This episode's guest, Nicole Henkel, can attest to that as yoga changed her perspective, even led her to politics. There's something about yoga that penetrates right to the heart and those who begin their yoga journey often find themselves feeling more compassionate about other people and the world around them. In this podcast, Nicole Henkel, a well-trained yoga teacher, talks about yoga and politics. She teaches yoga full-time for more than a decade and has taught yoga worldwide. She also shares about her journey being a yoga teacher and the moment she discovered she had cancer.  Nicole is also sharing motivating words about how yoga helped her when she had cancer and how it changed her life. But yoga is no magic pill. It's the change that happens in you that is. Join Nicole and Alex in this next episode of Outer Travel, Inner Journey! Blood is thicker than water, they say. I think this goes especially for the bond we share with our family, like the unconditional love of our parents, or the friendship of our siblings. So for those who have, we're lucky to have siblings—we just don't realize it. Even more than the friends or parents, siblings have been right by our sides through the awkward, embarrassing, joyous, and miserable times of our lives. Siblings are our first friends. But relationships between siblings can be complicated, especially in childhood. Remember fighting over your toy or favorite costume. We fight and argue but at the end of the day, we laugh with them over dad's jokes or our favorite cartoon. Also, there will be points when we believe them to be our biggest rivals. But we feel the proudest for them nevertheless. This episode's guests, Kerstin and Astrid Walsh have stories we can relate so much with. And they're twins! The bond and friendship they share is truly inspiring. And like most of us, it's not all flowers and fairies. They had their challenges, reflections about time and space, the life we're living in, our communities, and more! But the understanding they share even of the differences is something we can all learn from. It is always great to have friends you can go out with, get drinks with and do things with. But it's important to have friends you can actually connect with. And most importantly, friendship—even among siblings—is about growing together and apart. A truly inspirational conversation! In this latest episode of Outer Travel, Inner Journey, we are embarking on a conversation not often (and openly) talked about in still a lot of spaces. A good way to start the season, Amanda Rose is leading us to a free flow of exchange and critical discussion about the things that bring us holistic wellness—including sex and pleasure! The physical connection can do a lot of things to the human body—a newborn being cradled by the mother, a warm hug for someone who's depressed and feeling down, sex for those in intimate relationships. When couples have challenges keeping that ‘fire' of physical intimacy, relationship challenges often come up. Not all the time, of course. Couples feel less connected and bonded, and thus, feel less affectionate and loving. Sex is then often attributed to strong and happy relationships But the benefits of sexual pleasure don't end there. Learning more about each other's physical erotic zones is one of the ways to make sure that sex translates to pleasure and bliss and our bodies reap the benefits from that sexual energy. Amanda, a sex educator, and pleasure advocate educates us about the importance of pleasure and explains the erotic blueprints. She works with people who want to bring more pleasure, excitement, and self-expression into their lives. To her, understanding the Blueprint will guide you in creating your map to pleasure, communicate your needs to others, and navigate compatibility with your partners—things that are very important in nurturing a healthy relationship not only with your partner but to yourself as well. Sexual energy is creative energy! And so nourishing this energy inside you is also a way to bring out and share a version of yourself that is aligned and inflow. Don't miss this! Natasha Nandini - Grief is Unspent Love

Grief is a natural response to loss. It can be overwhelming because suddenly, you have no one or nowhere to devote your affection to. What used to be positive energy flowing out of the emotions of love, the joy of being with a person dear to you, and just the presence of that person, have nowhere to go. Because suddenly, there's a void, a black hole that doesn't vanish. Suddenly, no receiver could potentially return the same energy we give. The pain of grief can disrupt your physical health, your inner harmony, and your life. In this podcast, our guest Natasha Nandini, who has been studying yoga, Indian classical dance, and Indian classical vocal as methods to cultivate the self, is back with us to continue our discovery of ourselves through our sound.  She has taught both sound and yoga worldwide. But during this pandemic, Natasha lost someone she loved and here, she shares about grief and coping with the situation.  Opening herself up after pain and healing is a gift of sharing. In many cultures, grieving is facilitated by rituals for the bereaved person to connect with their lost loved one. These rituals help people to experience and manage challenging emotions, understand and accept their grief, and establish a connection to their memories of the lost person.  But grieving during this pandemic has been enormously different and overwhelming. The losses are immense and yet the chance to absorb the moment is cut short, for many. Movement restrictions and health protocols meant some people have been unable to travel and to be with loved ones at the end of their lives, or to attend their funeral. But then, a loss is a loss. There is no “normal” time period nor a proper way for someone to grieve. Capture Natasha's wisdom on grief, loss, and finding back that presence on this episode of Outer Travel, Inner Journey. Who doesn't enjoy dancing? Even just as a way to release your excitement or thrill over some good news!    Dancing is therapeutic in every sense—you can dance in a group, with a partner, or on your own. You do it in dance schools, social venues, community halls, and your own home (and in the shower, probably!) Dancing has become a popular way to be active and keep fit, that most fitness clubs now offer dance classes in their group exercise programs. You can dance both competitively and socially.   In this podcast, Zoe Knights and Alexandra Kreis talk about dancing. Zoë Knights is a singular artist and performer who has made a name for herself in the field of contemporary performance. Her creations are distinct for their unity of sound, movement, lighting, and design, inventions that produce transformative moments and mesmerizing synchronizations.   Zoe has been praised for her craft's visual and acoustic coherence, and intensity, and inventiveness.   To Zoe, dance is expression. As well as a spiritual and inner journey just like yoga.   When you dance, you should not simply be going through a series of moves; you should be performing. Dance is another means of expression. It should convey a story or an emotion; it should make the audience feel something, communicate with them on another level. Many young dancers forget about this expression/communication and forget that their whole bodies, including their faces, must feel and convey their story or emotion to perform successfully. The story or emotion should be the starting point of your dance; the appropriate moves and style should be selected, and the music should reflect and compliment this motivation. You need to interpret the music and dance expressively. Holistic health is about caring for the whole person and providing for their physical, mental, spiritual, and social needs. It's rooted in the understanding that all these aspects affect your overall health, and being unwell in one aspect affects you in others.   In this podcast, Jator Pierre and Alexandra Kreis talk about holistic health.   Jator Pierre is an eternal seeker, vlogger, comic-obsessed hockey player, and lifestyle and wellness, coach. Fifteen years into seeking health and wellness, Jator discovered and professionalized numerous self-growth and development tools which he uses to reveal the inner power within each of his clients.   Jator, like many of us, had his own struggles, so his practice has a highly personal and integrative approach. His clients often find themselves examining, discovering, and understanding not only how their bodies function and respond but how each one of their physical symptoms correlates to emotional, mental, and spiritual blockages.   Through his podcast, he shares about Holistic Health Coaching and how holistic exercises help in healing. Jator also discusses the fear of death and how we should overcome it.   People usually think exercise has to be physically and mentally taxing to be beneficial—“No pain, no gain,” we'd say. It is true to some extent, but it has been treated as dogma, and as a result, people approach exercise as entirely physical, sometimes even masochistic.   It's not all wrong but exercise, and getting fit and healthy does not need to be painful. Isn't the ultimate goal of this is to feel good?   Holistic exercise takes the opposite approach, employing workout techniques that keep the body fit while contributing to a sense of relaxation and spiritual balance. Yoga, for one, and other holistic exercise offers countless benefits without the self-punishment too often associated with physical fitness. Regardless of whether you have a religious affiliation or have no spirituality at all, it will not keep you from spiritual experiences. They happen to everyone, and some of the people are attuned to them while others are not. There is no baseline as to who gets to experience them. Sometimes they are the product of something positive, although being in the darkness often results in the biggest spiritual experiences of them all. Benjamin Joon believes that integral learning is based on four pillars: studying, practicing, serving, and playing. Benjamin is currently a student of Bettina Romhardt / Buddhism in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh and Shai Tubali, and Tamar Brosh in Chakra Psychology. Benjamin is participating continuously in seminars and retreats for further education. Love and intimacy go hand in hand. Love is the physical, emotional, sexual, intellectual, or social affection one person holds for another. Intimacy is achieved when we become close to someone else and are reassured that we are loved and accepted for who we are. Children usually develop intimacy with parents and peers. As adults, we seek intimacy in close relationships with other adults, friends, family, and with a partner. Intimacy is a close relationship where mutual acceptance, nurturance, and trust are shared at some level. In this podcast, Sabina Rademacher and Alexandra Kreis talk about love and intimacy. Sabina Rademacher is a Love and Relationship Coach based in Germany. And here, she shares how passionate she was about her work and coaching other people. Her coaching focuses on all aspects of love, such as self-love, relationships, separation, and breakups. Sabina loves to talk to young people and open their feelings about love and intimacy. She wants to raise awareness on the necessary conversations about sexuality between parents and their children. And to establish deep trust, openness, and vulnerability between parents and their offspring. Through this podcast, she also discusses feminism, masculinity, authentic feelings, and parents' role to their children about what love and sexuality are or can be. When you encourage conversations about feelings, friendships, and family relationships, it can help your child feel confident to talk about teenage relationships in general. If your child knows what respectful relationships look like in general, they can relate this directly to romantic relationships. Conversations like this hope to make your child feel more comfortable sharing feelings with parents even as they start to get romantically interested in others. And there's a lot more direction than this can go: treating other people kindly, breaking up kindly, and respecting other people's boundaries. For more than a year now, many of us have been stuck at home. Well, not literally, but the home-grocery routine. Maybe a short occasional stroll outside. But many times we've said we're missing out on a lot of other important things from the human-and-nature connection aspect because of this prolonged isolation. We also know that we should be moving around more throughout the day to stay healthy. However, working in an office, working at home, or even staying at home can mean you don't get the chance to get up and wander around at regular intervals throughout the day. Physical activity doesn't need to be complicated. Something as simple as a daily brisk walk can help you live a healthier life. Turning your normal walk into a fitness stride requires good posture and purposeful movements. All of us are born with a sense of movement, and our bodies have their unique language. Some of us lose touch with this sense of movement due to lack of use, illness, disabilities, or blocks from how we perceive ourselves. A movement therapist's role is to help the person tap into this sense of movement and express themselves, particularly thoughts or issues that may have been repressed. Shawn Flot, PT, and wellness coach of Moving Into Harmony and Well-Explored Life is back here with us. He studied Manual Therapy at Dynamic Manual Interface w/Frank Lowen. One of his passion projects is encouraging movement with nature by providing online guidance and conditioning to hikers, backpackers, and thru-hikers. In this podcast, Shawn and Alex share knowledge about moving our feet and going outside with nature. Shawn talks about the coordination of our system and our body when moving. He also shares some experience about his profession and gives some tips on how we should move our body with the right timing of breathing. This episode is sure to encourage and inspire you that moving outside with nature will help you not just physically but also mentally and spiritually. Links mention in the podcast Shawn M. Often, we think of meditation as a practice that uses techniques such as mindfulness, or focusing the mind on a particular object, thought, or activity to train attention and awareness, and achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm, and stable state. It has been scientifically proven that meditation reduces stress and anxiety. It also promotes emotional health and awareness. The meditation practice during this pandemic has the potential to complement treatment and is a low-cost beneficial method of providing support with anxiety for all. Conor Creighton, an Irish meditation teacher, and award-winning journalist has a lot to teach us on that! He came to meditation in 2012 and quickly became immersed in the study of mindfulness meditation and vipassana meditation. He trained in India with the Dalai Lama, and at the Redwood Institute in San Francisco. He has sat several long retreats and studied a number of meditation types. Conor's teaching is a cross-pollination of ancient techniques and contemporary wisdom. He teaches courses throughout Ireland, from art studios to prison yards. In this podcast, Conor talks about how meditation will change and help you grow as a person. Explore mindfulness meditation techniques that allow you to understand your mind, diffuse stress, and release tension so you can lead, create and perform at your best. This is ideal for people who don't think they can meditate. Learn how to change bad habits, focus the mind and set intentions. Have you ever felt like being confined in a box? On your role, on what you have to do, on who you want to be? It’s hard, especially for us, women. We are constantly influenced by our surroundings—parents, community, society. But how does one get out of that box? How does one unfold and fly? The idea can seem too vague. Often, we’d say, it’s easier said than done. And it’s true. Many of us just know that we want and have to take off and fly and wander but never really landed yet. Anyhow, life shouldn’t tell you where and when and how to land and stop. This is exactly the case for Jannetje van Leeuwen, another powerful woman sharing her magic and her story. Jannetje is a successful entrepreneur, angel investor, super-connector, and more. She admits that she’s not good at finishing stuff, but starting up is her strength. Jannetje grew up with confidence—being told by her supportive mom that she can do and become successful with whatever she decides to do. But she also puts such great appreciation and understanding of the fact that she’s speaking from a place of privilege—that unlike many others (probably most), she enjoys the liberty to explore because she doesn’t have to worry too much about her next meal, or paying up the rent and so on. This confidence and view about life have created the space for her to explore enough, not only as a multifaceted entrepreneur but as a person in general. All the checkboxes of successful adult life—glittery title, fancy house and car, figure in the bank account—never really interested Jannetje. But the excitement in uncertainty, the challenge, connection, being able to build and control—these are the more fulfilling things. The jump itself is fulfilling! After all, life and nature taught us: when you jump, you got to land. You just have to trust. Victoria Überegger - Our Space is our Canvas

We spend 90% of our lives indoors. Imagine how much time is that—being in the confines of a space that either supports you or restricts you. These spaces cultivate our experience and awareness and our experience and awareness draw the lines between these spaces. And so for Victoria Überegger, holistic interior designer and fellow yoga practitioner, spaces such as our home should be designed according to the story that its owners want to tell. Every home should look completely different from the next person's home and each space within a home should reflect how the homeowner wants to feel, what habits they want to create. Motivated by her own experience, Victoria worked to adopt a holistic approach to interior design through yoga because she knew how a person can take out all the fear and angst that he/she accumulates from a house into his/her social life. Growing up with so much fear and anxiety from living in an old, almost horror house-looking building in the middle of a beautiful city was, to her, next to a traumatic childhood. As Westerners, we always think of a trajectory—that we're on a target and we always and continuously have to move forward like an arrow. We thought it's that strain swift move, but if you look closer, it's swinging. Like in life, all these pulsations—the endless contraction and expansion—always reflect the polarity of life. In this podcast, Victoria and Alex exchange and share very profound yet practical tips to create that space that truly reflects one’s vision. Some of them are bringing pieces of nature indoors, reconnecting us with the sense of quietness and nature within ourselves, and getting rid of all toxins that are already pre-existing before moving in. The philosophy is simple: Try not to possess it all. Let it go. At the end of the day, our home is where we take refuge. After all, our home is our comfort. Not being able to do the things that we used to do, especially those activities that we love and have become part of our identity can be heartbreaking. It can turn our world upside down. We’ve heard about athletes, dancers, who have been physically active their entire lives, made careers out of their passion for movement, but suddenly shift after getting injured or “physically worn out.” This episode’s guest had a similar awakening—Shawn Flot, a triathlete and physical therapist, one day found himself in debilitating pain, his physical prowess crumbling irreversibly. But his struggle, with the guidance and support of communities working on mobility and movement like the Lowen Systems, yoga, and breathwork, brought him to a deeper understanding of trauma, physical and physiological dynamics, and ultimately, to help people now. This insightful conversation reminds us that there can be so much going on beneath the surface simply because our bodies are designed to hold the pressure up to a certain threshold. Symptoms and pain don't show up until the body can't adapt anymore. And so, as we look after our wellbeing—which is not confined in the facets of the physical needs—we have to be aware of and master the other realms that help to support us. Movement, hands-on work, breath work are some promising interventions that we can to support healing and recovering our optimum function. But at the end of the day, these are but reminders of the infinite gift of this world for us to live fully. Because we have somehow forgotten that we coexist for a reason: we belong to each other and are dependent on each other. Bridging the healing arts of Yoga, physical therapy, and manual therapy, Shawn shares his wealth of experience and knowledge through his programs within Moving Into Harmony with a mission: to create space and options for people to take back their power over their bodies; to be back in the body. People do feel the shifts. It is like giving back the person and their body options to heal. It's up to them through movement, like yoga, to implement and integrate those new options. - Shawn Flot We've been so self-made, individualized, but we forget that we belong to each other and are dependent on each other. It's no harm if you can't move correctly and someone else assists you. - Alexandra Kreis Breath is so intimately close to wounding in traumatic events. Breath is divine, always available. Use the breath to reopen the aperture - that's healing. - Shawn Flot Don't force yourself to strive to get rid of the trauma but be with it. This body has so much amazing love for you and potential. Artists not only create works of art. History has shown the important role they played in shaping our consciousness and environment. Every piece of art will resonate with someone, somewhere. It initiates dialogue and conversations; it stimulates action; it inspires change and growth. To this episode’s guest, Jörg Reckhenrich, therapy, coaching, and deep self-inquiry can come through art. You can apply and implement art thinking for business, entrepreneurship, everyday problem-solving...to practically everything! While Jörg is an artist himself and became a gallery owner, he didn’t like art books or theories in his younger days. Observing artworks and going deep into conversations about perceptions was what drew him into this lane. To him, it's not about the artwork itself, it's about the resonance of the person who's looking at that piece of art. Experiencing the power of art, it became important for Jörg to share it with people and spread positivity. Combining art coaching, positive psychology, and systemic attitude has become his wonderfully pieced together work-of-art to scale learning, education, and leadership. Coaching through art starts with a free conversation about a general topic before questions are posed. But it’s not like the conventional coaching process—the coach doesn’t always have to be the one who asks and the coachee answers. It’s a multidirectional learning process; from observation to context and real-life questions and problems. And as the landscape for learning is changing, especially these days, coaching through art has become even more relevant and effective. Especially because in art, it's not about knowing better, but daring to be out there and just doing it; trying to shift the world with the simplest notion. Understanding Nature through Math - Ulli Helmstetter

Math and physics—or ‘hard science’—can be intimidating to some (or many). Because most of the time, it is approached as abstract concepts and principles detached from reality. This area is often a space your kid may not feel too confident. But to Ulli Helmstetter, teacher of mathematics and physics, these are like lenses to see through this perfectly uncertain world. It’s the knowledge that ties us closest to understanding nature because they are nature itself. Having to tackle seemingly rigid concepts, it was easy to fall oblivious to your environment and self. No other subject could even frustrate you as mathematics. But Ulli understood these from a perspective that brings him back to the very purpose of knowledge: to be able to live in this world and live in it fully. Math and physics, in their essence, teach about the fundamental principles of nature; problem-solving and adaptation; of the truth, spirituality, and profoundness of life. And as a teacher, he took it as his mission to share this lens with his students and encourage them to re-discover the infinite magic of the world that we live in as he did when he first fell in love with science. The whole world is like a hologram. Every piece resembles the qualities of the whole. Like the tail of the elephant—you touch it and you know it's an elephant. No matter where you look if you look clearly and healthily at things, you're always connected with the truth. It doesn't matter which method you use to get or stay connected. Just like how science is—that it is not a set of information that we have and can hold in our hands. Understanding it is an infinite process as it is ever-expanding. But the basic principles are what we can hold and learn. After all, these principles, math, and physics, are just anchors to the higher intelligence that have let us thrive amid the horrors and wonders of this world! life Understanding the World of Meditation through Math and Physics The first intro to physics and spirituality was a book by Vienna Heisenbeck The Path and the Home; changed the course of my life Was in physics but the mechanic aspect but this book opened a new perspective. All the old concepts that we have of nature were completely upside down. I like to be puzzled and shocked. And this book did that to me. Mainly about the uncertainty principle. Things are uncertain. They are not clearly defined that a particle is not at one place but at different places at the same time. The world became magical again. A lot of us are dealing with the fear of possibility. It's a mission to bring this to my students. To bring an understanding of the changes in paradigm - what an open, mystical world we are in. Science is not a set of information that we have and that we know most or almost everything in the world. We hardly know anything. It's an infinite process. It's fascinating to have the feeling that we can take part in this process. People like my teaching because I'm open to what is happening - the ability to bring the magic of math physics to them. It is not a fixed system that is boring and invented by mankind. This is nature itself. No matter where you look if you look clearly and healthily at things, you're always connected with the truth. There's no escape. It's just a matter of being connected. It doesn't matter which method you use to get or stay connected. One reason we're here is to enjoy this world - to live in it and to live it fully. Is insane feeling bad or not acting according to the rule? There's an instinct, impulse, or built-in ability to adapt. To be in this world means to be in situations that can be horrible. But we are also naturally adaptable. Re-Authoring Your Trauma With Veronica Maurel Any experience can lead to a loop inside you. The more you ignore it, the more it gets ahead. - Alexandra Kreis Veronica Layunta Maurel, an Ayurvedic health consultant, yoga teacher, storyteller, and writer, tackles trauma from an insider’s perspective. Trauma is like a huge portal—to other past traumas, to the deepest levels of the self, and to everything that we need to work on. Searching for her healing, Veronica found re-authoring her story is pivotal in addressing trauma. It’s how you tell your story and how you tell it to yourself. When we think of trauma, we imagine horrible things. And people undergoing these are sometimes stigmatized. But we have to realize and be conscious that trauma is much deeper than that. Trauma can change the way we see things. We can have the same experience but the effect will be different. To some of us, it can be a stepping stone to be stronger. To some, it triggers an onset of trauma. It’s up to us how we author our lives around wounds like traumas and the space for healing that is always there for us.   Breaking Free from Trauma With Adair Finucane “There is nothing wrong with me.” Growing up in an average, normal family, Adair had never imagined that a deep-seated trauma was behind her rage, anxiety, and depression. How could that be? This isn’t trauma—she kept denying it to herself. She refused to honor her own experience and feelings. All that despite her being a trauma researcher. It’s easy to fall for the same lie about ourselves. We don’t or sometimes, we just refuse to, think something IS wrong or special in our experience or situation. Just like the social-worker-turned yoga-healer Adair, sometimes it takes being in a safe space to allow yourself to be vulnerable enough...to let your eyes see the fact that has been staring at you.    Innate Resources for Healing Trauma With Patrick Haraghy Seek help. Life is not a rehearsal. And so life should be lived in its full potential. There's a good life out there to be lived. - Patrick Haraghy With trauma, whether it’s developmental or shock trauma, a lot are out into the unconscious. And our first instinct is to protect ourselves from it by avoidance, pushing it aside, brushing it off under the rug. Even persistent pains in the body are telling of a trauma hiding somewhere waiting to resurface or erupt. But there are different ways of working on these traumas. Patrick, a therapist specializing in trauma, offers practical pointers to resources innate to us, human beings, to address trauma. If trauma is just right there hiding, and so is healing.   Aisha Harley Coming Home to Yourself after Severe Trauma “Being alone and meeting my anxiety face-to-face helped me find my happiness and my peace.” From pain to love, Aisha, a former photographer, and doTERRA leader realized that healing has to start with the self. Struggling from Lyme disease, stress, and pain from toxic relationships, Aisha was afraid to leave an abusive situation because she was afraid to be alone. She thought peace existed outside herself; her happiness depended on some other person.  But in her journey, she learned that putting herself first, working on her boundaries, and taking her power back were the first pieces in the puzzle of her healing. Others came in to build her picture of happiness and peace soon after she decided that, yes, she could heal, and she can do it by herself. ‘An empath—but what are you really?’ This was Maskarm’s question to herself before she embarked on that first ride out of Ethiopia. She knew she always had this incredible gift of being able to put herself in someone else’s shoes and feel things as if she was them. She understood her ability to see, hear and feel things. But in her world back in Ethiopia, there was no place for such. And so she went out to fly. Deeply sensitive, intuitive, good listener, self-sufficient. These were the qualities that had let her successfully sail across pan-Africa and beyond as a couch-surfer, meeting people along the way who either challenge her chosen way of life or think alike. But more importantly, it was indeed an outer travel to journey towards what within her. Maski was born and raised in a religious and traditional Ethiopian family. From the very start, traveling was her dream but it was not something comprehensible in her family and their culture. But she knew she had to be someplace and went for it. To her, it felt as if someone left her here on Earth by mistake and that being in one place for a prolonged period of time is not her safe space. Traveling gave her inspiration and a feeling of oneness. It unpacked for her so many things about herself, her childhood and traumas, her connection with her family, especially her mother. Traveling was her healing until she arrived and became ready to recognize her identity and share it with others (through writing and her book, Abyssinian Nomad). But it wasn’t all happy and exciting. Along her journey, Maski found out she has fibromyalgia, a disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory, and mood issues. To her, maybe it was a way of saying ‘I'm done here and now it’s the body’s time to heal. For years of searching, Maskarm lived in total freedom. But she also learned that there are things that needed to happen and shouldn’t be refused and ignored to preserve that perceived freedom. Especially if that comes from within—a voice that wants to be heard, a thought that needs to be shared and read, or even a feeling or pain that has to be tended to. Letting it all out is freedom in itself. Traveling never ends, when you are wandering the forgotten path. It's the curiosity and bewilderment that propels us forward, not the one thing that we want to solve. But as we go into our inner sanctuary, we realize there is nothing to resolve. It's just all a play of life. After all, life is so hard to fit into a shoe. This week's guest - a fellow traveler - wandered to the forgotten spaces wanting to learn more about life and the life that exists beyond her experience. Jolanda Todt, an artist, designer, cultural educator, went around getting away from and, eventually, wanting to reconnect to her memory of her father. Jolanda became a spiritual researcher, a truth-seeker in her own right. Losing her father to suicide as a result of his long-running mental health situation, Jolanda realized how difficult situations in our lives make us reach out and reach deeper. And these experiences are what sailed her through life and brought her to immerse in the indigenous community and culture of shamans—something her father wouldn't have thought she will do but she certainly has grown to love doing. She learned that psychological illnesses have complementary spiritual counterparts. But the ceremonies in these communities forged a strong connection to Jolanda and her experiential understanding of life. The two women singing, praying, and chanting for hours left a strong impact on Jolanda. In her culture, women are fighting for their space and place. But in these indigenous cultures, women have such a beautiful space, expressing their spirituality, in such a very authentic way. Being part of this community gave Jolanda invaluable nuggets of wisdom - the like that doesn't resolve questions but moves you through the unending quest for learning. The like that she proudly brings in her journey from sorrow to understanding the life that her father had. My Voice, My Story - Regan O'Brien

Breathing is one of those instinctive things that we know and do. So instinctive that we seldom pay attention to how it supports everything else in our system. So constantly done that we almost neglect the dynamics that it plays to other aspects of our core such as our voice. In this episode of Outer Travel, Inner Journey, Regan O'Brien, vocal coach and performing artist, and singer, inspires us to rediscover our breath and voice. Growing up with an innate love for music, singing was that one thing that brings Regan to her element—but she does it alone. She even recalls being so shy she couldn’t speak and join in conversations. Her nerves would always get in the way because she didn’t look at singing as sharing her voice and story with other people. To the younger Regan, it was something she had to do to meet someone else's expectations. Until she discovered breath and voice work. The thrive that she found among friends cheered her on to studying speech and drama. This opened her to a world of resources and support to build more strength and confidence in her ability. And there, she discovered her gem: realizing that finding her voice was a core experience of attuning to her sense of comfort and identity. And as she began to consolidate that identity, she felt more certain about the ‘I’ in all of her work. Today, Regan partners with people on their journey towards connecting with their voice in a meaningful way. She works with people and the poetics of their voice—the preverbal movement of the voice and the body, sensing inward, feeling the actual physicality of producing voice within the body, and finding the path of least resistance to creating support for that vibration with breathwork and strengthening exercises. Through her lived experience and example, Regan inspires people to step into the flow, rather than control it, and to immerse in the nervousness and rawness of the moment. With the right support, allowing ourselves to move with this flow while staying present in the movement is what gives depth to the breath and voice. Voice work, vibrations, resonances—all of these, there's movement in it that attunes us into our internal landscape. Sensing our voice vibrating in our body is such a practical and effective way of understanding ourselves. Our voice is our main vehicle of expression, not only of our thoughts. It ushers our emotions, our identity, the life within us to come out and come free. Moving and Singing to your Truth - Kavita Kat Macmillan

For every devotional song and dance, there’s a movement of energy that unravels what’s sitting from deep within. This movement of energy, not just of the dancer or singer but of everyone on stage and around, reveals a beautiful story of truth and healing. Coming from a long and deep experience of the art, Kavita Kat Macmillan eloquently shares a beautiful journey of discovering a movement and voice that truly resonates and expresses her truth. This devoted artist, who grew up with an inclination to music both instrumental and vocal, sought an understanding of singing and its place in her yoga practice. But this opened up into a much deeper practice of expression through dance and movement—butoh. But these two very different forms—voice and body—have both taught Kat rightly about expression, presence, truth, and connection. The dance that came out of Post-WWII Japan as a reaction to both the atrocities and the coming in of Western influence, Butoh, as Kat saw it, is a revolution of the body, of expression. It was really about allowing the self to strip away how we think we should know or dance and come into discovering choreography from the internal story. It is indescribably different than a performative performance. Rather, it is interactive because of the moving energy that tells the story and changes everyone. The dancers reveal death and life; it heals us in some way. Everyone is allowed to take a look at these things and to breathe or laugh or feel more. Butoh showed what hasn't been expressed on stage—taking grieve or death as a portal into life. There is death and there is life in the dance. But beyond its almost magical effect, its techniques tells more about what is required of one to be able to tell such a very intimate piece of the self in the dance: practice, physical strength, being vulnerable (reaching a physical limit that then breaks us so we release into a softening), control. The goal of the dance is to get away from the mind creating the image and allow for the body and the internal story to unfold something that might be completely unexpected and was there for being so true and real. Kat’s practice of butoh led her back to singing but this time, with a deeper understanding and connection to her voice. She learned to become free and open to her own authentic story through dance which made perfect sense to work with voice. Kat applied the same principles to music and is now helping people to have confidence around approaching singing and having their expression of music and voice in their lives.   Links mention in the podcast     Watch Video  Kavita Kat Macmillan Website   Support me on Patreon and receive great gifts!       Start your Spring Cleanse on time, Enjoy Early Bird price 20% OFF! Embrace the fear and let it go - Astrid Walsh

Many times, the things that you're scared of usually aren't as scary as you think they are. The thought of the thing is usually scarier than the actual thing. Astrid Walsh’s journey to save her vision was witness to this. Having been confronted one day by a diagnosis that meant she won’t be able to do many of the things that she loves doing and a possibility of being derailed from her passion for the visual arts, Astrid allowed herself to be scared off by what she thought would be the worst. While being treated conventionally for Lyme disease, she noticed episodes of flashing in her vision. Later on, she was told it was a detached retina and surgery is the only way. But that night of the soul pulled her inwards to wait and hear an answer, led her to discover a world that taught her that healing occurs so much deeper than and after the treatments and interventions that we do for our body. Astrid took her health on her hands: for better or worse, she relied on what she feels. She had the inner knowing but had to find out what it is. So Astrid researched and found Ayurveda as the only healing modality that looked at the senses specifically. Alexandra, as a long-time friend of Astrid, introduced her to that world and went deeper—into Panchakarma. Astrid spent weeks in a tiny village in India, being taken care of by Dr. Ashwin Shastri and practically the whole village. These weeks led her to discover so much about herself and the world we live in. Panchakarma and all the detox she went through taught her that healing is about creating space for and letting in what could heal us and letting go of the things that intoxicate, not only our bodies but also our mind and soul. More than the interventions, big and small, Astrid learned that it was really about tuning in to the self, about attachments and sufferings, about the way we look at life and death. And ultimately, about letting go. This whole journey, for Astrid, brought closer together two worlds—traditional medicine and Ayurveda—to teach her most precious take away: let in, want something, but let go of the necessity to get it and you’ll find peace in your decision. But you can only actually do that if you're supported in some way. Big interventions can give you a good place to start. Because sometimes, you just have to act now, in a big way. But then after that, you have to integrate it into your new reality. And that takes time and patience. - Astrid Walsh Ayurveda gives you the stability to be able to face health problems and not get panicked. The sickness can't travel so deep if you keep an eye regularly on what is falling out of shape in you and what needs amending. - Astrid Walsh Guest Bio Astrid Walsh is an amazing visual artist from Ireland. Sleeplessness, anxiety, unhealthy eating habits—we often regard these as just part of the “modern life”. But these can have more far-reaching effects on our well-being. And many times, people don’t realize that these often disregarded factors can be traced from an unaddressed trauma. The discourse around this becomes extra important as the world navigates a 180-degree shift in our lives as individuals and societies to cope with a pandemic. People explore a newly evolving world of work, mostly, with uncertainty and a small support system. But this episode’s guest, Patrick Haraghy, a therapist specializing in trauma, is out to take listeners through it with his five resources to stabilize our lives, whether traumatized or not. For Patrick, these five key resources—exercise, food, engagement, relaxation, and sleep—may seem simple and have always been a part of the health and wellbeing narrative. Yet people continue to take for granted many of them, especially sleep. A lot of healing happens during sleep—both for physical and mental healing. But trauma—whether developmental or shock trauma—often messes up one’s ability to get a good night’s sleep. And hence, the lack of it affects the body’s ability to recover and heal. And so it is important to know and practice some techniques to get a good night's sleep. Practicing sleep hygiene would usually involve small habits such as not having caffeine in the evening, not eating late, not taking alcohol, trying to go to bed at the same time and getting up at the same time (so activate the internal clock), and preparing for sleep like a baby like going for a bath and doing something but not watching TV, etc. In Ayurveda, this has been discussed in Samhita—how you run your day, creating an evening routine, and creating the atmosphere for sleep. But dealing with trauma is a long-haul flight. It can be activated later in our lives. The body tends to protect us from that trauma, shifting us to avoidance mode for so long, but then something might come and trigger it. A lot of people become self-reliant because of trauma and develop difficulty in reaching out. Hence, creating a safe space and opening up the self to external support is key to addressing the trauma for good. And of course, practicing these five resources works wonders! To Patrick, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with seeking help. Life is not a rehearsal and so life should be lived in its full potential. There's a good life out there to be lived. Art and Science - It's a Tie - Philipa Daria

Art and science, indeed, can become one. Daria’s journey tells us that.   This heartwarming conversation with Philipa Daria Filip traces back the strokes of that interesting moment of discovery of her art. It also dances us to the intricate details of how her artistry has been married to her world of science and philosophy of living sustainably.   Her moment of truth was that long journey from Poland to Paris—almost like an exposure trip to her unlived childhood days captured in countless photographs in an attempt to vividly store its beauty intangible memory—that went straight to a vernissage. But Daria’s art and science started even way back.   Although Paris, and its beauty and promise of sustainable living, is the cradle of Daria’s art, her motivation to marry art and science transcends beyond her artistry and this city. It is actually about her philosophy. Inspired by David Rocks' Quiet Leadership, she lives by the lesson that we don't learn on a linear curve; it's more parabolic. We have to focus our attention to make the space to make mistakes until we hit the curve. More like in art.   Coming from the logical corner—from studying and practicing engineering to teaching math and physics, and coming from a family who did the same—Daria found herself grabbing the camera and pouring out all her artistic side into it as her way of expression. But not only that. It is also her way of communicating details and of teaching science to the public eye. She has brought all these things together and calls it art is science and science is art.   To Daria, we can use common knowledge to understand the foundational principles (in math, science). And by slowing down and paying attention to the details—not doing shortcuts—we get so much more and higher quality understanding. In a way, sustainable learning.   Beyond Daria’s mind for details, she leaves an important trick to muster: Know when to focus on the detail and when to be a master of the subject to be able to appreciate and teach it. Know when to pull back and look at the big picture and how all pieces fit together. Not being a specialist in anything and trying to work and teach on it is equally dangerous as being a specialist in just one thing.   And above all, Daria inspires listeners to apply artistry to life: “Do not be afraid to try something new. Let it flow. Do not be afraid to take a chance.” Links mention in the podcast  Daria Filip Website  Support me on Patreon and receive great gifts!    Powerful Wintering routines to consolidate your mind with your body – CHECK HERE! You have to integrate it into your body, mind, and soul to move on. It's quite a challenge but it's the better way to live life. - Kay Bohlen Guest Bio Kay Bohlen used to be a stage performer for more than ten years. While working on stage, he found out that he has HIV and later, non-Hodgkin lymphoma. As he went on his healing journey, he had to give up many things including performing. But his journey led him to become an inspiration for many others facing difficult health situations. He was an AIDS ambassador in Germany and worked in Telecare, bringing hope to many, through phone calls.

Ana Rakovac, a friend, colleague, and student of Alex is a medical doctor herself who worked in paramedics and emergency medicine, in ICU, and a lot of other different fields within. Her professional journey brought her to study, do research and specialize in internal medicine and endocrinology, and chemical pathology. A lot of the turns throughout her career were brought by circumstances but also by her understanding that diseases have to be approached holistically. To Ana, medicine is about the whole picture. And this podcast is all about that. Coming from a respectable and deep scientific background herself, Ana opens up with Alexandra an important conversation about complementing and supporting efforts of different sciences or frames in looking at our health. Especially in this era welcomed by a pandemic. Here, Ana looks back at her first dive into Alexandra’s ‘world’ of yoga and Ayurveda. Again, it was circumstantial: struggling to keep an ‘eat less, move more’ lifestyle amid the lockdowns and limitations brought by Covid. The pandemic has affected work completely, especially those like Ana. But to her, it was momentous as the medical community is witnessing something unique; something so huge unfolding for the first time. Scientifically, it was exciting but also very scary. Until she ended up contracting it and got an inner view. And this moment made her realize and appreciate more the habits Ayurveda has brought in and how one science supports the others. What she learned in the language and lens of Ayurveda are very much the same in her practice, say in endocrinology, which is about balance and finding out which are inappropriately normal. Ana’s medicine and Ayurveda are not enemies. She realized that what Alex and Ayurveda are teaching her are observational lifestyle interventions that were 5000 years old and are aligned with what she teaches to her patients in her diabetes clinic. It's all about concepts. And the small things, like rest or sleep, that actually matter and completes the picture To Ana, it’s high time we wake up to the necessity of observing and respecting the interplay between our own rhythms and the rhythms of the planet and keep being healthy for as long as we can. It's been so much that we keep healthy in order to be pretty, to be productive, or achieve some other goal. But how about learning to keep healthy to be happy? So when you’re on your belly, you use more of your lungs and in Ujjayi breathing, you learn to breathe with your diaphragm. - Ana Rakovac Ayurveda is an observational medicine. Same as the medicine that I practice. It is how we interpret what is causing these observations that differs. - Ana Rakovac What we do not get taught in med school is habit formation. There is this overemphasis on knowledge and not enough emphasis on how to bring the knowledge into practice. - Ana Rakovac This whole one-track thinking of productivity and efficiency being above everything disregards the cyclical way that humans are. We need rest. We need to sleep.  - Ana Rakovac We have to stop fighting each other or pointing fingers, but join hands to teach people how to be healthy. - Alexandra Kreis Guest Bio Ana Rakovac is a medical doctor who worked in paramedics and emergency medicine in the field during the Serbia and Croatia conflict, worked in ICU, and a lot of other different fields in medicine. Annica Lindberg Sense of Yoga Annica started a blog in Swedish about her yoga journey. She wrote whenever she felt so alone in her practice and wrote almost every day for 10 years. Through her blog, she got connected to other people, gained friends despite practicing yoga at home (her teacher was online and her friends were not with her. She shared with readers and friends the struggles she stumbled upon in her practice, who later encouraged her to write a book.   Her self-published book gained a lot of attention and respect and attracted followers. It was a thoughtful narration of getting herself to the mat which is not a natural thing for her all the time and how that struggle led her to discover her center. To Annica, those small situations in a person’s life are what showed her that she’s into something else now.   “The more I trust the things I do, the more I get what I need.”   Sonja Radvilla Fears and Desires Sonja lets us into the back curtains of writing the book. Some parts were difficult for her to write. One of the characters even came out after all of the struggles of telling the story in a more interesting way.   The book is like a strange universe—Sonja specifically wanted the characters to have universality but also a creation of intersecting realities of India and other places Sonja loved.   Priya Basil Be my Guest: Reflections and Discussions While Sharing Food For Priya, we live in a time where food has somehow become an identifier, a part of the statement of who you are and how you want to be seen in the world. For me, my eating—being a vegetarian and leaning towards vegan—was an ethical choice. For others, it can also become oppressive and restrictive. But there’s joy, the possibility for connection, and discovery in food. And so her book was about celebrating those and the possibilities that give us the chance to talk about bigger issues of how we live together and share while acknowledging that there should be a sense of responsibility in our choices.   To Alexandra, this book and the author have so much guts to tackle an important topic and open a sensitive discourse. It takes tremendous openness and clarity to bring these thoughts out to a broader audience. But to Priya, she approached the difficult aspects of this book by confronting her doubts and struggles.   Take the steps that are possible for you at a particular moment. Recognize that we don’t always get it right completely but encourage ourselves and others to keep making better choices.”   Jessica Sanders Love your Body Jessica wrote the book from her deep involvement and passion for Body Positivity a movement started by lesbian women to acknowledge the body in its truth. It’s about combating fatphobia in our culture and the shame it creates in individuals that could be potentially a very damaging thing for an individual.   But Jessica is not only about it, but self-acceptance of all kinds, promoting kindness and self-care, and emotional resilience. And these important themes brought out her second book for teens and young adults and possibly a third book specifically for boys and male adults.   “I’m just trying to be as intuitive as possible because I think that is when the best stuff happens.”   Elisa Marie Collins Becoming a Super Ager Elisa, in her book Super Ager, bravely explains how pervasive individualistic culture made us think that older people are useless. Looking at the form, the fire element (the competition), and just what we see on the surface, makes us think that older people are useless. And this is in contrast with the wisdom that older adults actually possess and impart—the wisdom of seeing the bigger picture.   In this podcast, Elisa walked us through the intriguing Blue Zones, or the places where there is a higher concentration of super-agers, and unboxed the phenomena in these places so we can adopt the habits for a fuller, longer life that super-agers enjoy.   “We don't necessarily have to isolate ourselves to become a super ager, but we could set things up where we're supporting each other.”   Gianna Shamone Becoming a Writer To Gianna, her writing flourished because she was just letting it flow. Forget about the pressure of being ‘good enough’, of targeting to get published—when a thought or feeling or even a question pops in and triggers words in her head, she would just grab a pen and paper go with it.   But she so believes that writers are born—and that happens when one feels the want of writing. Her advice was simply to learn to have the confidence of just doing it. Because she strongly believes that we are all able to write because we are all able to communicate. It's just when we start overthinking that it blocks us to do it.   “Finding peace in the moment is a new favorite thing of mine. It makes me feel more alive than anything else—calm, steady. Only my breathing and my heartbeat remind me of the physical shell I chose this time. Everything else flows and hovers around me. And I can feel the energy flowing.”   Links mention in the podcast    Annica Lindberg Book Sonja Radvila Book Priya Basil Book Jessica Sanders Book Elise Marie Collins Book Gianna Shamone Book Watch Video of the Podcast   Support me on Patreon and receive great gifts!   Check out our Free Meditation Challenge with Alexandra

Elise Marie Collins - Becoming a Super Ager Podcast Description

This podcast with Elise Marie Collins, author of the best-selling book, Super Ager, is admittedly a conversation like going through uncharted waters for our host, Alexandra. But having so much to share as both yoga health coaches and many deep values as Ayurvedic practitioners just made this talk flawlessly eye-opening and inspiring. Especially while tackling the topic of aging! (And mind you, not only aging but “super” aging.) Elise, a yoga health coach, and a gerontologist have also written two other books—Chakra Tonics and An A to Z Guide to Healing Foods. Her work was inspired mainly by her practice, her quest for healthier choices for her son, and her passion for helping people live a longer and fuller life. To her, writing these books, and eventually, Super Ager is like passing on the wisdom of Ayurveda and an expression of her love and respect for older adults and admiration for the habits that made them thrive and become centenarians. This conversation navigated through some very important notions (and misconceptions) about getting old and old age itself as that part of our lives, igniting appreciation and respect for older adults, their wisdom, and the very wisdom behind what got them to this now-precious stage of life. Walking us through gerontology (the study of aging) and how it is so much like the Western Ayurveda for its multidisciplinary nature, to the fun facts about Blue Zones, you are sure to pick up gems of lessons you’ll want to implement in your life as soon as possible. Because for centenarians, everything that got them to live up to a hundred started at birth. Elise also touched on breaking down some common misconceptions, or views, and attitudes towards people of old age. She explains how pervasive individualistic culture made us think that older people are useless. Looking at the form, the fire element (the competition), and just what we see on the surface, makes us think that older people are useless. But centenarians are precious because they tell stories of the life they've seen and history. And learning from their habits tells us tons about living a full, more satisfying, and happy life. And these stories of older adults is such a fountain of new possibilities and hope! Jothi Dugar - Bringing Wellness to the Cyberspace

This episode’s guest is a leading cybersecurity executive who knows what it's like to be the only female executive in the room. Meet Jothi Dugar. Cyber exec for NIH in the US for over 25 years. She is a catalyst for change, inspiring transformational leadership as a holistic wellness specialist and coach, author of three books, an international public speaker, and a mom of three. Cyberspace is one of those industries that’s operating 24/7. And that’s been bringing so much stress, burnout, and overwhelm to the community because they just have to be connected round the clock. It's a beautiful field, with so much to learn. But it's like a place where you don't have a choice on the matter; something you're forced to stand because of the urgency aspects and potential safety issue. With that, Jothi, one of the very few females leading the industry, felt it's one of those that desperately need to put mental health wellness among industry values. Something she has so much passion about. But it wasn’t easy. Mental health seemed unapproachable for them. Yoga, meditation, mindfulness were like off-words. A jargon from a completely different word. Coming out from a traumatic childhood herself, Jothi opens up a deep place and shares how she found and grew her calling to help people feel better while continuing to lead the industry she also has immense talents for. And Jothi’s faith, passion, and commitment helped her break the walls. And not only that, but she’s also transcending the cybersecurity and safety aspect to the personal development space to better protect people especially in this day and age of almost everything going virtual. These two hardworking, persevering coaches also exchanged ideas about the approach they share with their students. Jothi shares about the Jedi approach which is about finding a creative solution, a way to navigate and bring out empathy and compassion. Her work is an inspiring story of doing what seemed impossible: merging the two worlds together—the outer (cyberspace, so out there!) and the inner (mental wellbeing and the many other aspects of the self). I want to encourage women and girls to stick with what you want to do; you don't have to make excuses for yourself or feel like not to be your authentic self just to please somebody else. - Jothi Dugar My goal is to bring cyber and the wellness worlds together without making it seem so scary, especially to women. - Jothi Dugar I had a traumatic childhood but I've set my goals. I had dreams that seemed so far and impossible. But it's only in setting those dreams that I actually had something to look forward to. The path isn't always linear. That's where the power of your intention really shines through. - Jothi Dugar Sometimes too many choices can make you more inactive. But it really boils down to two things: you're born as a human for a reason and that you're meant to be happy. - Jothi Dugar Guest Bio Jothi Dugar is a cyber executive for NIH in the US for over 25 years. This episode takes us to Gianna's extraordinary journey into becoming a writer and writing her book.   Gianna Shamone had always been in the creative industry as an artist manager for musicians. Her interest in understanding poetry and lyrics was her foundation for building effective collaboration with artists she works with. But she didn’t know that this deeply lying passion inside her all along could be a craft on its own.   The writing was always a part of Gianna, from writing short stories as an elementary school student to journaling—she knew she wanted to write. But she never really trusted that her writing could interest others until people around her repeatedly tried to convince her that it’s her purpose: help in people’s healing through her poetry around life and feelings.   Her newly-released book, Finding Me, now available in many different stores worldwide, came to be as Gianna worked on herself. It was birthed by overcoming a lot of her fears and courageously diving deeper into her inner world and letting it come out.   Not until receiving endless people’s positive feedbacks on her poetry captions for her photos (another craft of hers!) posted on Instagram and that final push from the tarot card reading after a Reiki session in New York just before the world shutdown from Covid19, Gianna never had it in her cosmos of possibilities that she was good enough to be read by the whole world.   Her journey and this intimately honest conversation are out to inspire listeners to pursue their passion. One’s life purpose, or dharma, doesn’t have to occur to you in a grandiose moment; sometimes, it just starts with an interest you have kept in the bay for so long and never really let to flourish and take you on. She is also a self-taught, photographer, and music video/short movie director, who fuses these skills in her shoots. She mostly uses analog cameras to capture her photos, which combines nostalgia feelings and today's aesthetics in a soothing way. When it comes to directing, she totally relies on her visual mind and her general emotional being. Her focus lies in working with artists in the music field, whether it's in the studio or in front of stages.
