In charge of the Nations Rock Collection. That's a pretty sweet job description. Join us as we have the honor of interviewing Dr. Mike Ackerson. In this episode, we certainly get into some detail about igneous petrology. Mike and Jesse are good friends and have spent some time discussing things that introductory geology classes take for granted. For instance, there are some questions on the formation of granite. This might seem ridiculous because this topic is covered in any intro level geology class, but there are some problems. We also talk philosophically about geoscience education and scientific research. In all, this discussion spans too many areas to summarize here. We hope you enjoy! We now have a live Mobile App for iOS and Android. There you can learn all the basics of geoscience with our CampGeo content, purchase a visual audiobook on the Geology of Yellowstone National Park, and listen to past PlanetGeo episodes! After a somber episode last week, it's back to some action and espionage this time around as John continues his journey of revenge, Ackerson makes plans with his Spartan IIIs, Halsey makes some old (and new) discoveries, Kai's loyalties are tested and Cortana does what she does best. With only two episodes left in the season, it's clear that things are coming up to a reckoning soon. Joining the usual HaloEra cast is Jon and Jesse, who'll bring in even more variety in thoughts and opinions on this polarizing piece of media, and Amanda, a guest some may remember from earlier episodes on this podcast.
In the latest episode of "Challenge Accepted," we dive deep into "Halo" Season 2, Episode 3, titled "Visegrad." This episode marks a significant turning point in the series, showcasing a complex web of character dynamics and setting the stage for an impending confrontation that promises to escalate the tension to new heights. "Visegrad" sees Master Chief and the Spartan Silver Team embarking on a daring off-books mission to search for the missing Cobalt Team at the Visegrad communications relay on Reach. The episode beautifully balances action with emotional depth, particularly highlighting the internal conflicts within Silver Team as they confront the realities of their rogue operation. The revelation of Corporal Talia Perez's ability to decode a mysterious Covenant message adds layers of intrigue and foreshadows the critical role she may play in episodes to come. The episode also delves into personal stories, such as Col. James Ackerson's poignant interactions with his father, who suffers from dementia. These moments provide a rare glimpse into the human side of the characters, often overshadowed by their military personas. Additionally, the narrative thread involving Admiral Jacob Keyes, the AWOL charges against Silver Team, and the tension with Ackerson adds a political dimension to the unfolding drama, raising questions about loyalty, duty, and the cost of war. "Visegrad" doesn't shy away from showcasing the darker aspects of the Halo universe, including the morally ambiguous decisions made by characters like Ackerson and the brutal realities faced by those like Laera and Kwan Ha in The Rubble. The episode masterfully weaves together the personal and the epic, setting a high bar for storytelling in the series. As "Halo" Season 2 continues to unfold, "Visegrad" stands out as a testament to the series' growth, delivering a compelling mix of action, character development, and thematic depth. Join us on "Challenge Accepted" as we explore the nuances of this episode, discuss the implications for the series, and speculate on what the future holds for Master Chief and the rest of the characters as the battle for Reach intensifies. "Halo" Season 2 is proving to be a thrilling ride, and "Visegrad" is a clear highlight, demonstrating the series' potential to not just entertain, but to resonate on a deeper level. -------------------- *Check Out All Our Podcasts!* Geek Freaks Podcast: https://linktr.ee/GeekFreaks Disney Moms Gone Wrong: https://linktr.ee/disneymomsgonewrong Challenge Accepted: https://linktr.ee/challengeacceptedgf Headlines: https://tinyurl.com/2p8bvu6d Level Up!: https://linktr.ee/PushingButtonsPodcast Who's Got Next Game: https://tr.ee/wX3t_vGxdO TrekFreaks: https://linktr.ee/TrekFreaks Geek Freaks Interviews: https://linktr.ee/GeekFreaksInterviews Outlast Podcast: https://linktr.ee/OutlastPodcast Round Three: https://linktr.ee/RoundThree From The Pages: https://www.patreon.com/GeekFreakspodcast -------------------- *Hang Out With Us!* Discord: https://discord.gg/6Jrvyb2 Threads: https://www.threads.net/@geekfreakspodcast Twitter: twitter.com/geekfreakspod Facebook: facebook.com/groups/227307812330853/ Instagram: instagram.com/geekfreakspodcast E-mail: thegeekfreakspodcast@gmail.com Twitch: twitch.tv/geekfreakspodcast Site: geekfreakspodcast.com --------------------- *Support Us!* Patreon: https://patreon.com/GeekFreakspodcast Store: redbubble.com/people/GeekFreaks

After leaving the Oklahoma City area, Dr. Thomas J. Byrne started working at a new hospital a few hours away, in a rural area in the northeast corner of the state. It was there that Sue Ackerson came under his care for a hysterectomy and quickly noticed something wasn't right after the surgery. She would be one of four women to file lawsuits against Dr. Byrne for incidents that occurred over the span of a year. Ackerson's attorney would later discover that the medical director of the hospital was actively concerned about Byrne and kept a personal file on him. What is a hospital obligated to do with that kind of information? More than thirty years ago, Congress designed a system to help state medical boards and hospitals track physicians nationally but patient safety experts say that system is full of loopholes – including ones that may help explain how Byrne's record may have avoided some red flags.Listen to our earlier episodes:Episode 1: Wrongful DeathEpisode 2: License RevokedEpisode 3: The Gatekeepers

Finał dzisiejszej historii pokazuje trudną do zrozumienia kwintesencję lekceważenia i zupełnego braku szacunku w stosunku do drugiej osoby, której kiedyś wyznawało się miłość. Braku szacunku zarówno za jej życia jak i po śmierci. Zapraszam do wysłuchania szczegółów sprawy Laury Jean Ackerson. #podcastkryminalny #historiekryminalne #zagadkikryminalne

Featuring special guest Jenny Ackerson (https://twitter.com/ackersonjenny)! The directorial debut of Roger Corman protégé Peter Bogdanovich is a startling, screeching indictment of the past and future of American violence, and what it looks like when they meet in the present. Following the parallel stories of aging classic horror star Byron Orlok (Boris Karloff) and quietly disgruntled, emasculated veteran Bobby Thompson (Tim O’Kelly), TARGETS is a portrait of the low-budget, high-tension filmmaking that would come to define New Hollywood – thanks in no small part to the story ideation and dynamic production design of Polly Platt. Wong Kar-wai’s “inverse stories” structure really hits its stride in CHUNGKING EXPRESS, illustrating love as fleeting, important, slow, and instantaneous with the not-quite-parallel stories of the blonde, the cop, the MPDG, and… the cop. Jenny is back to help us discuss one of Wong’s better-known films (and one of her favorites), which she says uses a “call and response” style and characters that embody the different ways people value time with those they love through routines and rituals – all, of course, in service of Straight-Up Vibes™. Featuring special guest Jenny Ackerson (@AckersonJenny)! Tsai Ming-liang's debut is much more than most summaries can tell you. Less a coming-of-age morality play amid 1990s Taipei than a tale about the downward emotional spiral of youth, REBELS OF THE NEON GOD is a work fueled by empathy and the struggle to find oneself amid urban decay, social prescriptivism, and expectations of mythological proportions. None other than legendary Minnesota music staple Mark Mallman joins the podcast this week. We cover so much ground! Life, loss, and inspiration. Hell, he even sternly calls me out before the end of the show over my choice of words, but don't worry...we sorted it all out. I am a 20+ year fanboy of his. AND!! we share his brand new single at the end of the podcast. Damn, I love doing this show.
Special guest Jenny Ackerson (@AckersonJenny) joins us for this extra-long discussion of PARIS, TEXAS! When director Wim Wenders and screenwriter Sam Shepard sat down to start PARIS, TEXAS, they wanted "to tell a story about America." The story they ended up telling was about Travis, an amnesiac reintegrating as if out of memory back into the deserts of the American southwest, intent on making his way back to a home he begins to remember breaking. By leveraging and breaking apart the western genre, blues music, the "love long lost" story, and the physical and mental landscapes of the American frontier, PARIS, TEXAS radically reshapes our notions of the scope, history, legacy, and future of the American dream. Just as Travis and Jane's story of remembered, shared, and repeated generational traumas slowly unravels, Wenders's masterpiece slowly shifts to unveil a subversive, essential new framework through which to view America, masculinity, love, loss, memory, and what it means to impose an idea on a place, a time, and a person. You can see why this episode is two hours long. Follow us at @trylovepodcast on Twitter and email us at trylovepodcast@gmail.com to get in touch! Theme: "Raindrops" by Huma-Huma/"No Smoking" PSA by John Waters.
It was a pretty rough year for music-related deaths. It seemed like every day we lost another songwriter, producer, or musician. And this sort of tragic news affected every genre and every age group. But they all left behind a body of work to keep their memories alive, and tonight’s Live Ledge celebrates many of these artists. Some were platinum-selling Hall of Famers; others were lifers who deserved more recognition than they saw in their lifetime. A special thanks goes to Danny Boen for offering his thoughts on his longtime friend (and Polara bandmate) Ed Ackerson. One of the MVP’s of the Minneapolis scene since the mid-80’s, his October 4 death from pancreatic cancer stunned the Minneapolis community. (A GoFundMe has been set up for Ackerson’s wife and child. Please help if you can.) After listening, please go purchase those tracks you enjoy!

This week’s guest on the show is someone who has seen me, literally, at my worst. Eric Ackerson is someone I met in the mid-90s and we spent a great deal of time during these very formative years. Drinking formative years, so that meant that there was a lot of learning and then a lot of forgetting. We both worked at the same company (Fry’s Electronics), we both had the same sort of career trajectory, but Eric did it right and found himself as a vice-president at a cool consumer electronics company. Meanwhile, I don’t know if anyone at the company I work at even really knows my name. Eric dishes all the dirt on me, and then we record a sketch about dating. Man, there is a lot of dirt on me. Just to keep you up to date, there are some new enhanced versions of the sketches found on YouTube. They really are cool and I love that there is a visual companion to these sketches. This weeks sketch: When you are looking for love, you will look for it anywhere. Maybe it’s in that weird smelling bottle you bought from that old gypsy lady at the bazaar. More than likely, you will find the answers you seek in a book. Knowledge is power, which is why it’s so important to read as much as you can and learn from other’s expertise and experience. Or Tinder. Tinder also works. The podcast suggestion of the week is “We Don’t Have Cookies”. Every week, host Jason Marshall has people who are really funny on his show to talk about some of the weird things that happen in the world. It’s really good, and he has really funny guests on his show. I have no agenda in suggesting that you go listen to his show at all… Next week’s guest is a crossover event! Jason Marshall has a podcast called “We Don’t Have Cookies” and I am a guest on his show on Monday, October 23rd! So, if you haven’t heard it yet, check the link at the bottom. Did you know that several studies in recent years have shown that when women enter a specific field in large numbers, the pay for that field declines overall, even for the same jobs that men were doing? This is one of many implications of gendered professions, which are at the core of this month’s episode of Museopunks. The Punks dig into the implications of the gendered museum, and its impact on pay and the sector more broadly with Anne W. Ackerson and Joan H. Baldwin, whose new book Women in the Museum explores the professional lives of the sector’s female workforce today and examines the challenges they face working in what was, until recently, a male-dominated field. The Punks are then joined by nikhil trivedi for a conversation about the impact of gender and masculinity on technology work, inside museums and beyond. Please note: nikhil’s interview includes discussion of specific actions men can take to dismantle gender oppression and create more supportive institutions for people of all genders. He has kindly created a supportive document with more information for those who wish to dig deeper, which we’ve included in the show notes at http://museopunks.org Museopunks is presented by the American Alliance of Museums.
