It is a privilege to welcome actress and singer Lauren Marcus to The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast. Stephen Mosher of BroadwayWorld best described Lauren: "Take all the female rock stars you have known and loved and roll them up into one. Take, for instance, Linda Ronstadt's soul, Tina Turner's sexiness, Pat Benatar's grit, Debbie Harry's defiance, and all the Go-Go's playfulness. Mix and bake at 350, then frost with a five-inch thick layer of The Icing of Originality, and you've got Lauren Marcus." Hailed as "fabulous" by The Boston Globe and a "powerhouse" by The Chicago Tribune, Lauren is a multi-hyphenate actor, singer, and writer whose work has been seen on stage and screen. She has appeared in countless regional theatrical productions, including Company (with Aaron Tveit; Amy), Fiddler on the Roof (Tzeitel), Hello, Dolly! (with Tovah Feldshuh; Ermengarde), two productions of Little Shop of Horrors (Audrey) and Merrily We Roll Along (Mary Flynn). She also was part of four world premieres, including Beatsville (Carla), Love in Hate Nation (Miss Asp), Pregnancy Pact (Jenn), and Punk Rock Girl! (Patricia). She also appeared in the Off-Broadway productions of Sarah Silverman's The Bedwetter (multiple roles) and White Girl in Danger (Meagan). Lauren was also part of Be More Chill's journey. She portrayed Brooke Lohst in the regional, off-Broadway, and Broadway productions. Lauren starred as Donna in the Netflix adaption of the Lin-Manuel Miranda-directed Tick, Tick…BOOM! Lauren also performed across New York City's famous music venues, including 54Below and Rockwood Music Hall, where she had multiple residencies and had a party of 12 performers on stage. While she considers her live shows – half-party/half-therapy, Lauren's sound is inspired by the effervescent melodies of 1960s pop, the lyrical poetry of 1970s troubadours, and the electric edge of contemporary indie rock…and usually includes a healthy dose of theatricality. Her sound is at once a throwback and entirely forward-thinking. In this edition of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Lauren Marcus spoke about being part of Be More Chill's entire circle journey, pulling off a quick recovery on stage while performing in Company with the late Stephen Sondheim in attendance and her latest single: "Skinny & Blonde."

I started to listen to audio-books, and I'm in the middle of Sarah Silverman's - The Bedwetter. It made me really appreciate her comedy style, as well as people like Tig Notaro. But it also reminded me of a podcast I recently listened to where two scientists tried to break down comedy. They basically try to ruin comedy. The woman who last year married a ghost named Edwardo, is now divorced from him. So, she's available!Tour de France teams ask fans to behave better after reported selfie causes mass pileup in 15th stage.Park Rangers are upset with people building rock cairns in nature. Rock cairns (KARENS) are man-made piles of rock stacked on top of each other. An Australian man and his dog who were lost at sea for months and survived by drinking rainwater and eating raw fish, have been rescued. The Madden video game came out with its player rankings. Some players are pissed. But what if your job had public rankings? And this bizarre side hustle of a lawyer that will possibly lead to a divorce if you use it.

But taking power out of other people's hands and owning our own identity, regardless of how others see us, will empower us and change how we walk into a room.In this episode, Broadway actor Ashley Blanchet talks about how to step into your power as a woman (and a black woman) and how to own the your power and the things that make you different instead of shying away from them and trying to hide them from people. “People are all over watching, and if you have the integrity to do good works no matter what, it will come back around.” Snapshot of the Key Points from the Episode:[03:19] Ashley's career journey and how she got where she is today.[06:13] Ashley's Broadway comeback experience in WAITRESS at Barrymore theater.[08:40] What was it like for Ashley to be the first black woman to play the role of Elsa?[11:34] A lesson that Ashley learned in a camp as a kid that she will never forget. [13:09] How is Ashley able to thrive in an industry where rejection is constant and part of the process? [18:42] Ashley's favorite and memorable projects that she has been part of.[23:38] How has pivoting helped Ashley discover new ways to use her acting skills during the pandemic?  [27:17] The things Ashley keeps exploring and stretching herself in to improve and grow. [30:44] Ashley's advice on self-tapes and taking classes to get your skills set and how to keep them accessible[35:13] What is Ashley doing to engage her fan base? How Ashley navigates performing and the business side of being a performer.[37:46] Ashley's advice on how to find a good agent, create a package, and put yourself out there.[41:45] What does working from your happy place means to Ashely?  [43:59] Ashley's advice for young people starting out on how to find their unshakable success.About Ashley Blanchet -Ashley Blanchet was most recently seen on Broadway as Dawn in WAITRESS at the Barrymore theater. He was known for having informally confessed in 1985 to the 1983 abduction, rape and murder of 10-year-old Jeanine Nicarico of Naperville, Illinois, which was a highly publicized case. He was already in custody for two other rape/murders, one of an adult woman in 1984 and the other a female child in 1985. It's Casual Friday! Sam and Emma host Alex Pareene, Contributing Editor at the New Republic and proprietor of the AP newsletter on Substack, to round up the week in news. Then, Sam and Emma are joined by comedian Sarah Silverman to discuss her recent Off-Broadway musical The Bedwetter! First, Emma and Sam walk through the news, including NYC tightening their stringent gun laws, the social security trust getting extended by at least a year, Florida ending gender-affirming healthcare… for adults on medicaid, and Biden visiting Saudi Arabia as OPEC announces a production boost. Alex Pareene then joins as they dive into his article on the “unanswered question,” addressing an entire generation's recognition of our political system as completely broken, before they walk through the weirdness of the state of our economy, including an incredibly strong employment rate and wages on the rise, while the media and government are fear-mongering about gas prices and inflation, and ignoring soaring rent and the inaccessibility of homeownership. Alex then dives into how democratic leadership is viewing this economic moment, as their property value skyrockets but corporations are finding it difficult to higher people an unlivable wages, and looks to the pandemic as a massive cause of the booming housing prices, with the “work from home” economy allowing white wealthier folks to move to lower-rent areas (thus driving up prices), and the stoppage in building production and a collapse of the supply line making the price of creating accessibility sky high. Next, Alex, Emma, and Sam look to the political divide between discussing inflation and gas prices, and refusing to address the inability of Americans to afford a roof over their heads, as representative of the democratic leadership's ideological commitment to corporate neoliberalism even as their polling numbers continue to dwindle. They wrap up the interview with an extended conversation on policing, and how, in the wake of the Uvalde massacre, the media and government have to readdress their relationship to policing, and why Biden refuses to initiate such a political movement. Then, Emma and Sam are joined by comedian, author, playwright, and just all-around creative talent that is Sarah Silverman, as they unpack her work with the late-great Adam Schlesinger to convert her memoir into a critically-celebrated (by Sam, at least) musical, how Sam connects to these stories (obviously important), and the beautiful influence she had on one Emma Vigeland. And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma take a call from Ronald Raygun on the absurd pseudo-“standards” that we hold police to, Candace Owens doubles down on the Uvalde shooter being trans, because it's not normal for adult men to purse their lips, and Greg Gutfeld uplifts apolitical niche commentator Joe Rogan. Sam unpacks his takes on Nomiki's race against progressive Kristen Gonzalez, and Jose Vasquez calls in to announce his State Senate candidacy in Reno Nevada. Plus, your calls and IMs!   Check out the AP SubStack here: https://theap.substack.com/   Check out the Politics of Everything: https://newrepublic.com/podcasts   Check out Sarah Silverman's The Bedwetter here: https://atlantictheater.org/production/the-bedwetter/ Become a member at JoinTheMajorityReport.com: https://fans.fm/majority/join Subscribe to the AMQuickie newsletter here:  https://madmimi.com/signups/170390/join Join the Majority Report Discord! http://majoritydiscord.com/ Get all your MR merch at our store: https://shop.majorityreportradio.com/ Check out today's sponsors: Established Titles: Get an amazing gift for your dad this Father's Day! On this week's episode - I continue my rant on the weather. I've had it with the rain and the wind and the cold. I guess I'm ready to move to Miami. But my rants are warranted as my friends and I do a charity walk for ALS in the rain. I just don't have any rain gear -- and quite frankly. Don't want to buy any darn it. Also, I did get to see Sarah Silverman's "The Bedwetter" before the big talk back coming next week - but of course it was raining, so saw it in wet clothes. What do I live in Seattle or something? Yo! From the trash; ain't no chill. This mix was brought to you by Late to get you more familiar with two of his favorite emcees, Nickelus F and LIL UGLY MAYNE. They're both out of Richmond and/ or prominent in their own right. The fact that they are pets and collaborators only makes the mix make more sense. Think of it as an extended Weather Report. We get into their background and aesthetic a little bit before the mix. Also, be sure to peep all their projects especially their latest: STUCK from Nickelus F and volume 1: Flick Your Tongue Against Your Teeth and Describe The Present. from LIL UGLY MANE under the name Bedwetter. A couple more recommended tracks that aren't in the mix are in the link section. Repeat guest Tyler Wildey, proprietor of Epic Deli (2616 Schaid Ct, McHenry, IL 60050) is my guest for 4th of July week. We talk about his restaurant, the restaurant business, music and the insanely delicious food that comes out of Epic's kitchen. Discussed this week: Made-to-order fresh chicharrones (fried pig skin). "I've been trying to lose weight... let's undo that." Tyler's undying support for restaurateurs across the city and suburbs. We got lots of comments and questions on the Facebook Live stream, which we answer on the podcast. The JVO Sandwich: "Technically, it is a sandwich." The single from the short-lived punk band Bedwetter, which Tyler was in with Tod Pot from Apocalypse Hoboken. The Orange Chicken Ramen! The restaurant's liquor license and the red tape involved. Epic Deli's appearance on the smash hit Showtime show "The Chi" (featuring Chicago actor without peer Mickey O'Sullivan). Epic Deli's customers are like collectors. Tyler is like a hunter-gatherer. "I'm already full... he's trying to kill me. Maybe this is my cry for help."

The Dark Tower: It's a miracle it got made and is out, but is it a miracle of cinema? In short, no. But is it any good AT ALL? That's harder to answer, at least for Garrett, who can hardly get a sentence out before his brain shuts down. Co-hosting with Garrett's dumb mouth are technical issues and spontaneous harmonizing. Mark Normand invited me to his brand new apartment to do a podcast about bedwetting. Mark and I were both very late bedwetters. So we got together and talked about what it's like to be 14 and still pissing on yourself every night. All the plastic sheets, the fear of sleepovers, what our moms had to go through. God, it was embarrassing.

Susan Silverman brings humor, faith to adoption! VIDEO INTERVIEW - Mr. Media Interviews by Bob Andelman

Today's Guest: Susan Silverman, rabbi, international adoption activist, author, Casting Lots: Creating a Family in a Beautiful Broken World   Watch this exclusive Mr. Media interview with Rabbi Susan Silverman by clicking on the video player above!  Mr. Media is recorded live before a studio audience of full-grown adults who would like a shot at being adopted by the Silverman clan… in the NEW new media capital of the world… St. Petersburg, Florida! Rabbi Susan Silverman is a bit of an alarmist. Don’t believe me? Just read her book. From the Prologue: Page xi: “At recess, I’d puposely get an out in kickball in exchange for my parents still being alive when the 3 p.m. bell rang and the school day was over.” SUSAN SILVERMAN podcast excerpt: "People are more likely to adopt if they feel their community has their back. I would say to people, create a situation in which you can adopt. If you have that in your heart and that capacity in your life, take the risk!" You can LISTEN to this interview with RABBI SUSAN SILVERMAN, author of CASTING LOTS: CREATING A FAMILY IN A BEAUTIFUL, BROKEN WORLD, by clicking the audio player above! And on Page 90, as a grown-ass married woman and mother: “Once, upon hearing of a crash in Russia, I actually figured out how (my husband) could have ended up on that flight, a scenario that included a wrong gate and an absentminded ticketing agent. I had recently spent half the night dialing and re-dialing the front desk of his hotel, asking the same clerk to put me through to his room. I had left messages, but what if he didn’t check them? What if the red light on the hotel-room phone was out? What if he were lying dead in the gutter RIGHT NOW? “…God created the world through poetic speech. I patrolled mine through vigilant bitchiness.” Don’t misunderstand – I’m not making fun of Susan. (Okay, maybe a little. I am married; I know the drill.) As the first-born child of Beth Ann and Donald Silverman, Susan experienced a horrific trauma: her three-month-old baby brother died in his crib while her parents were on a short vacation and the baby was being cared for by Donald’s parents. That 1964 incident—at least from my reading of Susan’s new book, Casting Lots: Creating a Family in a Beautiful, Broken World – colored everything that has followed in her life, from being ordained to raising a family of five, becoming an adoption activist, and relocating from Boston to Jerusalem. SUSAN SILVERMAN podcast excerpt: "My brother, Jeffrey Michael, was a baby when he died-- I don't even remember him. It wasn't until I was an adult and in therapy, talking this intense separation anxiety i have. I mentioned that I had a brother who died when I was two. My therapist said, 'WHAT?' I had been in therapy for three years already. She said, 'Susan, wake up and smell the coffee.' It helped shift things a lot. As did Zoloft." In Casting Lots, Susan tells her story, warts, four-letter words and all, and makes her case for easing restrictions on international adoptions. By the way, I first became interested in Susan last summer when I heard the audiobook edition of her sister Sarah’s book, The Bedwetter, in which the comedian—perhaps best known for her music video, “F*@#ing Matt Damon” and support of candidates Barack Obama and Bernie Sanders—talks in awe about her big sister, the rabbi and mother. Key interview moments: • 3:40 Rabbi Susan Silverman talks about the personal breakthrough in therapy that helped her cope with her intense, lifelong separation anxiety; • 13:10 She offers constructive advice to families considering adoption; • 26:19 Silverman addresses her frustration with what she sees as a shift among aid organizations such as Save the Children and UNICEF away from private adoption and more focused on warehousing orphaned children around the world.

Painting Pictures with Gabriel Roberts

One rainy evening in Paonia, I met a little dog named Rosie... also, the struggle with coffee is real and ongoing, people who put their trash out too early really bother me, and Matt Damon and Emily Blunt shtir shomething deep inshide me.
