Oh yeahhh back with another brand new #SITB! Episode 124 features EMME and Bluu Suede - last week we had such an incredible live interview on Instagram and I knew I had to share it again. These two incredibly talented artists come from different but similar backgrounds - it was a really powerful interview and had the chance to discuss: -Their humble beginnings and early experiences that inspired them to pursue careers in music -Inspirations and influences - EMME is from Memphis and Bluu Suede is from New Orleans - cities with extremely rich history of music -Obstacles they've overcome and how they've shaped who they are today -Their new collaboration "No Disturbance" - doing extremely well across all streaming platforms and they just released the music video! Thanks so much for coming on the show guys - keep doing your thing.
EMME- The artist formerly known as Mary O'Neill was born and raised in a small-town outside of Memphis, TN. EMME is thankful for her upbringing which consisted of many days fishing, hunting, mudding, and spending quality time with family. EMME's biggest inspiration is her Father (Coach O'Neill). Coach O'Neill was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and overcame a huge obstacle by beating cancer twice. Through her Father's journey, she was inspired to let go of her fear as she took her Father's advice to pursue her music career. It was during this time that Mary met her vocal coach, Tom McKinney and her entire world changed. Tom McKinney is a well-respected vocal coach that has worked with other artists such as Mario, Demi Lovato, Ray J, Solange and many American Idol finalists. In fact, Tom served as the New Talent Development Vocal Technique Instructor for Music World, a recording and publishing company managed by Beyoncé and Matthew Knowles. Tom encouraged EMME to believe that her vocal abilities was something special and rare that she finally decided to pursue her dreams. EMME was later introduced to the Grammy Award-Winning Producer Rickey “Slikk Muzik” Offord that has worked with other respected artists such as Ariana Grande, Chris Brown, Tori Kelly, Lil Wayne, Trey Songz and many more. BLUU- Bluu Suede came into this world when Disco, Funk and Soul were at its peak. Movies like Shaft, Carwash, Foxy Brown and other funky / soulful music oriented films were peaking out in the scenes. Bluu started singing at the age of 14. Smooth sounds such as Donny Hathaway's "For All We Know" & Al Green's “Let's Stay Together”, were just two of the many inspirations for Mr. Bobby Bullard. One might actually compare his sound to that of Mr. Hathaway along with a little helping of Stevie Wonder. At the age of 18, he was picked up by Gumbo Funk Productions / Virgin Records. Here, he got his first taste of the music industry and this began the start of a beautiful ride for the man known as Bluu. Soon enough, Bluu collaborated with other fellow friends and artists and together formed the group Stres. Stres provided an avenue for him to showcase his talent as a vocalist, songwriter and Producer. From all of this a new Record Label under the name Stres Entertainment was born, and helped him embark on an entire new journey....which still lives! In 2005, Bluu continued his journey on to season 5 of American Idol, where he placed in the top 25. Bluu returned home to begin working on his featured solo album "The Bluu Suede Project." Coming into a Pop-driven world. Bluu's aim was to go against the grain with his sound as much as possible. He incorporated a lot of his own unique production and vocal style. "The Bluu Suede Project" takes the listener on a journey compiled of struggle in the music industry along with life's adventure. Bluu mixes his sound by incorporating elements from a variety of genres which include Rock, Country, R&B, Neo-Soul, and Hip-Hop. The music will move your spirit. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/camillekauer/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/camillekauer/support

Led by the music ministry of our choir and orchestra, we are held by exquisite voices and sounds, as we prepare our hearts to make our Holiday Gifts to BLUU (Black Lives of Unitarian Universalism.) Back on November 17, we invited the congregation to consume less this holiday season, to live into our core values, and to re-imagine what joy and justice might look like this holiday season. This Sunday, we pooled our gifts (from the money we didn’t spend this holiday season) to support the work of BLUU. A few months ago I had the opportunity, along with 1500 others, to hear Dr. Takiyah Nur Amin on a panel discussion representing BLUU, Black Lives of Unitarian Universalism. Our Unitarian Universalist denomination is courageously discussing its past and present participation, along with the rest of America and religion, in white supremacy. BLUU is critical in helping our organization get woke. Three weeks later at the Unitarian Universalist General Assembly in New Orleans, after we had recorded this interview online, I had the very brief opportunity to swap a quick, real-life hug with Takiyah after a panel discussion she was leading. She was super busy but, of course, I had to say hello! You will certainly be able to tell from this interview that Takiyah has a very sharp mind and a very gracious heart. If that sounds like the making of a great faith leader, teacher, and social justice advocate then I would have to agree with you. But there's at least one more important ingredient that's important, passion around at least one subject. And she's got passion! About what? It's better if I let her tell you in her own words in the interview. Notes from the interview: Hypervisibility and misrecognition (Melissa Harris Perry), 'when you're a black person in the room, everyone sees you but they don't really know what they're looking at.' "Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world." - Harriet Tubman "I don't believe that you can teach people who you don't love." - Takiyah Nur Amin "Maybe none of us deserves anything but we're all worthy of everything." - Takiyah Nur Amin Links: Sponsor: United Faith Leaders Dr. Amin's Website UNC Charlotte Biography Unitarian Universalist Association Black Lives of Unitarian Universalism (BLUU) University of North Carolina at Charlotte Melissa Harris Perry Girl Get Your Money Straight: A Sister's Guide to Healing Your Bank Account and Funding Your Dreams in Seven Simple Steps by Glinda Bridgforth

Dr. Susan Newman Moore, July 2, 2017 Frederick Douglass was an outspoken and eloquent critic of the institution of slavery. In this message on a very special "Teach-in on White Supremacy" Sunday, Rev. Fred Muir tells some personal stories and references the book, "Waking up White" to emphasize his message about White privilege, fragility, and society and his culture's need for personal growth in this area. The video referenced is from Buzz Feed. It's about privilege and can be viewed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hD5f8GuNuGQ Note: Over 100 members and friends participated in conversations after church.
The Black Lives of Unitarian Universalism (BLUU), in response to the racial inequity in hiring practices at the Unitarian Universalist Association called on UU congregations to spend one Sunday this spring focusing worship on white supremacy. In their invitation, BLUU leaders wrote “’White Supremacy’ is a provocative phrase, as it conjures up images of hoods and mobs. Yet in 2017, actual ‘white supremacists’ are not required in order to uphold white supremacist culture. Building a faith full of people who understand that key distinction is essential as we work toward a more just society in difficult political times.” We join with 500 UU congregations in answering this invitation and building a faith full of people with this understanding.
In a very passionate sermon, Rev. Christina Leone Tracy discusses transformation, change, UUCAs present and future, as well as the current UU/UUA Climate. How can we give away our church to gain a true and just UU faith? Listen to this sermon. The first 3-minutes are missing so the written text is below: I love the story that I read to you earlier, Brother Juniper, https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6051.Brother_Juniper, because it is a sweet, funny, kind story, a story that tells of a man who lived his faith so fully that he took enormous risks, even if he didn't mean to... Here at UUCA, we celebrate a new theme each month--and back in March we celebrated the theme of Risk. Brother Juniper indeed took some risks--in fact, when his companions returned to find him standing in that empty hole they yelled at him, "What have you done! You've ruined our church!" We've all felt that way sometimes, when a risk we take doesn't pan out the way we want at first. But life is about change, and that's what we're talking about this month. April's theme is transformation. This month we have celebrated the Passover, when the people of Israel are freed from bondage and transformed again into the chosen people -- We also celebrated Easter, the death and resurrection of Jesus, a transformation of death into life. Transformation is a powerful theme and it feels like we talk about it a lot. I remember when I was a couple years into my time in this ministry here, and we had experienced a number of changes. The beloved DRE had left after 23 years, and I had come into this role. I hired a new RE Assistant to replace the previous one who moved away. The choir director changed a couple times, and the Administrator too. Then the new RE Assistant who everyone loved, decided to take on a bigger job elsewhere and I needed to hire someone new. I remember talking about the changes that were coming, and someone said, "Once all these changes finally stop, we will be able to really do the work we want." "Ohhhh..." I remember saying... "Do you think these changes are going to stop? Oh. I'm sorry. I don't think that's going to happen. I might go on maternity leave at some point (I did), I might have to move on to another ministry at some point (and that point is coming soon). These changes are going to keep happening. Here at church and throughout life, the goal is not to wait out the changes until some change-free time arrives." If you're honest with yourself, there is NO time in life where there are NO changes. The goal is to find a way to go with the changes so that we can continue to grow and thrive with them, to use each change as an opportunity for reflection, curiosity, and improvement. The goal is not just to weather the changes but instead to truly transform! When we think about Transformation, we think about growing, getting bigger, improving, fixing, changing, adding things. I mean, the story of Passover is a celebration of the power of God to perform miracles and free people! (THE AUDIO PICKS UP HERE)
This is the first time I’m posting a second full episode in a week, that wasn’t a bonus episode! I’m excited and hope that y’all are too. Because, if the response is good and y’all keep listening, I’m going to try to make this a permanent thing. Today, I sit down with Anderson Munro, founder of the lifestyle brand Bluu Dreams. If you recognize Anderson’s name from the podcast it’s because a few weeks ago he was on one of the bonus Episodes recorded Live at WMCFest. I had a great time talking with Anderson and was curious to learn more about him, so I invited him back for a full episode. We talk about everything from growing up a first generation American, to being an accountant by day, to his exciting new work with Mitchell & Ness, RenArts, and Reebok for The Dead End Kids, a ’86 Mets capsule.
