This recent podcast episode, hosted by Dr. Carol and Kim Pittis, delves deep into the practical applications and theories surrounding FSM, making it a valuable resource for medical practitioners aiming to integrate this technology into their practice. Understanding the Health Pyramid with FSM The podcast opens with Kim Pittis sharing insights from a recent course she attended, where the concept of a health pyramid was introduced. She highlights the importance of screenings, assessment, mobilization, movement, and stabilization, crucial parts of patient care in both biomechanics and the biotensegrity model. FSM, however, appears to transcend traditional modalities by offering versatile treatment options that aren't confined to specific conditions. Exploring FSM Frequencies One of the key takeaways from Dr. Carol and Kim's discussion is their exploration of FSM frequencies, specifically the use of 124 – a frequency often used for healing scar tissue. Dr. Carol notes that while dissolving scar tissue, practitioners must ensure that stabilizers are ready to replace it for effective healing, emphasizing cautious application. Palpation Techniques and Patient Assessment The podcast segment on mastering palpation techniques is particularly insightful for practitioners. Dr. Carol shares her unique approach to palpation, which involves 'seeing' with your fingers, a skill likened to a masterclass in perception. This technique allows practitioners to accurately assess and address scarring and other tissue abnormalities in patients, enhancing diagnostic precision. Addressing Complex Conditions The hosts also navigate through complex conditions such as post-shingles neuropathy and lupus, offering invaluable insights into using FSM for managing these challenges. Dr. Carol explains her protocols for addressing nerve damage post-shingles, which often involves treating the damaged nerve to restore function and alleviate pain. For lupus, they emphasize the role of the vagus nerve and the importance of identifying triggers and stressors that exacerbate the condition. The Role of FSM in Osteoporosis and Tendon Health For practitioners dealing with osteoporosis, Kim highlights the importance of mechanical force and tensile pull on bones to strengthen them. She advocates for the use of FSM to aid in muscle recovery post-exercise, promoting sustained physical activity as a preventive measure against bone density loss. Advances in Medical Practice with FSM The podcast wraps up with an enthusiastic preview of the upcoming FSM Symposium, suggesting further learning opportunities for practitioners eager to expand their knowledge and application of FSM in their daily practice. The event promises to feature an array of fascinating case studies and scientific explorations into the mechanisms of different frequencies. For medical practitioners, this podcast episode provides a detailed and practical perspective on the application of Frequency Specific Microcurrent. By integrating the lessons shared by Dr. Carol and Kim Pittis, practitioners can enhance their diagnostic abilities, expand their treatment arsenal, and ultimately, improve patient outcomes. Whether dealing with scar tissue, chronic conditions, or improving overall patient care, FSM presents an innovative approach to modern medicine.

Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Bri: Hello, I have a friend who was recently diagnosed with MGUS (monoclonal gammopathy) a condition in which an atypical protein is found in the blood and you have a increased risk of having cancer in the future. If this were you, what would you do? Or what path would you start looking down? Alicia: A holistic chiropractor informed us that our 6 year old son has a hiatal hernia. His symptom is a cough at night after he's been asleep about an hour that eventually progresses to him throwing up. After that he's able to return to sleep. This used to happen a few times a year and now it's just been once so far this winter. Please explain what a hiatal hernia is, if it's common in children, and how we can help him. HC: Hello Dr. Cabral, Thank you for all you do for your community. I appreciate your selflessness and committment to inform us on real truths of healing!! Do you any knowledge on antioxidant Carbon 60? I have been looking at product (Carbon360) and would appreaciate your feedback. THank you again for all you do!!!! Heather: Hey doc! Thanks as always for taking the time to answer our questions. Could you talk more in-depth about Beau's lines (the horizontal dents in nails that make them look warp-liked)? I listened to your podcasts on nails and you briefly mentioned these lines mean digestive-based issues. I've gone through the CBO Protocol & Gut Finisher, did a Food Sensitivity test & confirmed I only have a moderate sensitivity to rye & miso. The Beau's lines weren't something I noticed until recently when they started appearing on my fingernails but now I realize I've had them on my toenails for quite some time, otherwise, I would have brought it up to my health coach at the time I was working through the CBO. Thanks again! Sienna: Hi doctor Cabral, I (47F) would love to do a 3-day water fast for health benefits, but without messing up my hormones and losing muscle. What would be the best way to approach this? Thanks so much for your answer! Physician Assistant and prior C&P examiner Leah Bucholz discusses Hiatal Hernia and Weight Gain in Veterans' Disability.Leah explains the relationship between hiatal hernia, obesity, and VA disability ratings for veterans. She describes a hiatal hernia as a condition where the upper stomach bulges through the diaphragm into the chest cavity, often overlapping with GERD symptoms. Leah emphasizes that obesity, a significant risk factor for hiatal hernia, increases intra-abdominal pressure, contributing to the condition. Symptoms include heartburn, regurgitation, difficulty swallowing, and chest or abdominal pain. She discusses both primary and secondary service connections for VA disability, explaining that veterans diagnosed with hiatal hernia during active duty can be service-connected. Leah also addresses how obesity can be an intermediate link between a service-connected disability and a hiatal hernia, particularly if the disability leads to weight gain.

https://darienchiropractor.com/darien/hiatal-hernia-darien-ct/What is a Hiatal Hernia?Ever had that awful feeling of heartburn or acid reflux and wondered what's causing it? Well, it could be a condition where a part of your stomach pushes up into your chest area through an opening in your diaphragm, a large muscle crucial for breathing. This condition is known as a hiatal hernia. There are different causes for this hernia, such as age, obesity, and certain physical activities that put pressure on the abdomen. Symptoms might include chest pain, difficulty swallowing, and that familiar burning sensation in your chest or throat, known as heartburn. When it comes to treatment options for a hiatal hernia, there's a range to consider. You might be able to manage your symptoms with lifestyle modifications, like eating smaller meals, avoiding certain foods that trigger heartburn, and not lying down immediately after eating. If these changes aren't enough, surgical interventions might be necessary. This could involve pulling your stomach back into the abdomen and making the opening in the diaphragm smaller, or even reconstructing an entirely new valve from a part of your stomach.Hiatal Hernia Video on You tubehttps://sites.google.com/view/corehealthdarien/Find us on Social Mediahttps://chiropractor-darien-dr-brian-mckay.business.site https://g.page/r/Cd4zGiJFpqJ9EBM/review https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNHc0Hn85Iiet56oGUpX8rw back pain projeThis podcast welcomes your feedback here are several ways to reach out to me. With over ten years of invaluable experience, Katie has had the opportunity to help numerous patients by utilizing a holistic approach that incorporates comprehensive laboratory testing, targeted supplement protocols, and lifestyle adjustments. She has had the privilege of training various healthcare professionals, including nutritionists, dietitians, MDs, PAs, NPs, and health coaches. Through her guidance, these practitioners gain the skills and knowledge to confidently interpret laboratory results, evaluate complex cases, and provide effective treatment plans for their own patients. Key Takeaways: The health risks of heartburn, GERD, and acid reflux Heartburn, GERD, or acid reflux can impact your overall health. Contrary to popular belief, these conditions are not solely caused by excessive acid production. They occur when the pressure within your intra abdominal cavities forces stomach acid in the wrong direction. When acid reflux happens, it can lead to several negative consequences. The acidic nature of the refluxed contents can irritate and inflame the lining of the esophagus and throat. This irritation can cause discomfort and interfere with your day-to-day activities, significantly impacting your quality of life. Moreover, chronic or severe cases of acid reflux can pose more serious risks. Prolonged exposure to stomach acid can contribute to the development of Barrett's esophagus, a condition characterized by abnormal changes in the lining of the esophagus. Barrett's esophagus, in turn, increases the risk of esophageal cancer. Unveiling the symptoms of indigestion reflux Frequent indigestion reflux often leads to a rapid sensation of fullness. During meals, you may frequently experience burping or even food regurgitation, especially after consuming large meals. Additionally, constant nausea and a persistent burning sensation are commonly reported symptoms. Less common symptoms associated with indigestion reflux include wheezing, dry cough, or the development of nodules. Hoarseness can also occur. Some individuals may feel a pressure-like sensation in the upper region of the abdominal cavity and have the urge to push on it. However, identifying these symptoms becomes somewhat more challenging when experiencing silent reflux. Understanding the causes of indigestion and heartburn Various factors can contribute to the development of indigestion and heartburn. While there can be multiple causes, one common factor is the buildup of pressure that pushes things in the wrong direction. Conditions such as hiatal hernias can play a significant role in this regard. Structural issues also contribute to the development of indigestion and heartburn. Infections, particularly Helicobacter pylori, are known to be significant contributors. Many people may be familiar with H. pylori, as it is a commonly recognized cause of these digestive problems. A mindful approach to food and diet There is a specific dietary approach aimed at reducing acidity and promoting better digestive health. This entails eliminating foods such as caffeine, chocolate, highly acidic and spicy foods, as well as heavily fried foods, which can be particularly irritating to the stomach lining. However, it's important to note that dietary preferences and sensitivities vary among individuals. Certain foods, such as gluten, dairy, soy, and eggs, can trigger for some people. These items might need to be avoided to manage symptoms effectively. But it's crucial to consider other factors as well. For instance, if you have low stomach acid, you might experience difficulties in digesting protein. Thus, it's worth paying attention to your body's response when consuming beef, pork, or chicken. It might not necessarily be related to acidity but rather an issue with protein digestion. Alcohol can also cause discomfort for some individuals and should be monitored accordingly. Additionally, some people may experience reflux due to high-fiber foods if there is an underlying bacterial overgrowth in the digestive system. Addressing indigestion In addition to chewing food thoroughly, there are various strategies individuals can employ to address indigestion. To tackle this issue comprehensively, one can undertake various actions, including diagnostic tests such as stool and breath tests for SIBO. Moreover, implementing a diverse set of approaches, from dietary modifications to stress management, can prove beneficial. Additionally, there exists a plethora of supplements that can be considered, offering potential relief from indigestion symptoms. We are experiencing more and more patients coming in with symptoms of hiatal hernia syndrome who have a history of trauma or injury. Injury to the diaphragm, such as trauma from a fall or traffic accident, can lead to a hiatal hernia. Many healthcare providers get all caught up with taking a look at the internal factors, when in fact a thorough dissection of a patient's health history might just be the key in getting into the root cause of their hiatal hernia. Are you wondering if you have a Hiatal Hernia? This week we started out with a discussion of ALL the chocolate in the house, from the pedestrian to the sublime. We reminded everyone that high cocoa content is healthiest, but it's OK to indulge in the mundane just for the pleasure of it! The main focus was on hiatal hernia and gastroesophageal reflux disorder, […]
A hiatal hernia occurs when the upper part of your stomach bulges through the large muscle separating your abdomen and chest (diaphragm). Your diaphragm has a small opening (hiatus) through which your food tube (esophagus) passes before connecting to your stomach. In a hiatal hernia, the stomach pushes up through that opening and into your chest. A small hiatal hernia usually doesn't cause problems. You may never know you have one unless your doctor discovers it when checking for another condition. But a large hiatal hernia can allow food and acid to back up into your esophagus, leading to heartburn. Self-care measures or medications can usually relieve these symptoms. A very large hiatal hernia might require surgery. As discussed in earlier episodes, Lita has Ehlers Danlos and it turns out this is the cause of her fourth hernia we will talk about today. "Gastrointestinal (GI) manifestations are found in Ehlers Danlos syndrome (EDS) hypermobility subtype (HM). We aimed to assess associations between EDS HM and other EDS subtypes with GI manifestations. Methods: We reviewed medical records of EDS patients evaluated at Mayo Clinic's Medical Genetics Clinic 1994-2013. We extracted information regarding EDS subtypes, GI manifestations, and treatments. Key Results: We identified 687 patients; 378 (56%) had associated GI manifestations (female 86.8%, diagnosis mean age 29.6 years). Of the patients identified, 58.9% (43/73) had EDS classic, 57.5% (271/471) EDS HM, 47.3% (27/57) EDS vascular subtypes. In addition, 86 patients had EDS that could not be classified in any of those three subtypes. Commonest GI symptoms were: abdominal pain (56.1%), nausea (42.3%), constipation (38.6%), heartburn (37.6%), and irritable bowel syndrome-like symptoms (27.5%). Many GI symptoms were commoner in EDS HM than the other subtypes together. Among 37.8% of the 378 patients who underwent esophagogastroduodenoscopy, the commonest abnormalities were gastritis, hiatal hernia and reflux esophagitis. Abnormal gastric emptying was observed in 22.3% (17/76): 11.8% delayed and 10.5% accelerated. Colonic transit was abnormal in 28.3% (13/46): 19.6% delayed and 8.7% accelerated. Rectal evacuation disorder was confirmed in 18/30 patients who underwent anorectal manometry. Angiography showed aneurysms in abdominal vessels in EDS vascular type. Proton pump inhibitors (38%) and drugs for constipation (23%) were the most commonly used medications. A minority underwent colectomy (2.9%) or small bowel surgery (4%). Conclusions & Inferences: EDS HM and other subtypes should be considered in patients with chronic functional GI symptoms and abdominal vascular lesions." (credits Mayo Clinic)

What's the deal with Hernias? What Is a Hernia?A hernia occurs when an organ or fatty tissue squeezes through a weak spot in a surrounding muscle or connective tissue called fascia. The most common types of hernia are inguinal (inner groin), incisional (resulting from an incision), femoral (outer groin), umbilical (belly button), and hiatal (upper stomach). In an inguinal hernia, the intestine or the bladder protrudes through the abdominal wall or into the inguinal canal in the groin. About 96% of all groin hernias are inguinal, and most occur in men because of a natural weakness in this area.In an incisional hernia, the intestine pushes through the abdominal wall at the site of previous abdominal surgery. This type is most common in elderly or overweight people who are inactive after abdominal surgery.A femoral hernia occurs when the intestine enters the canal carrying the femoral artery into the upper thigh. Femoral hernias are most common in women, especially those who are pregnant or obese. In an umbilical hernia, part of the small intestine passes through the abdominal wall near the navel. Common in newborns, it also commonly afflicts obese women or those who have had many children.A hiatal hernia happens when the upper stomach squeezes through the hiatus, an opening in the diaphragm through which the esophagus passes. What Causes Hernias?Ultimately, all hernias are caused by a combination of pressure and an opening or weakness of muscle or fascia; the pressure pushes an organ or tissue through the opening or weak spot. Sometimes the muscle weakness is present at birth; more often, it occurs later in life.Anything that causes an increase in pressure in the abdomen can cause a hernia, including:Lifting heavy objects without stabilizing the abdominal musclesDiarrhea or constipationPersistent coughing or sneezingIn addition, obesity, poor nutrition, and smoking, can all weaken muscles and make hernias more likely.
Hiatal hernia is a common condition where the upper part of the stomach pushes through an opening in the diaphragm and into the chest. Thoracic surgeons Dr. Siva Raja and Dr. Monisha Sudarshan answer common questions about hiatal hernia.

Brian Reese here, and today, I'm revealing "HOW" to get a 60% VA Rating for GERD. And by the way, severe acid reflux, aka, GERD va disability, is eligible for VA benefits under the law. GERD is most often rated under CFR 38, Part 4, VA Schedule of Ratings, Diagnostic Code 7346, Hernia Hiatal. - Common Symptoms of GERD in Veterans - * A burning sensation in your chest (heartburn), usually after eating, which may worsen at night * Chest pain * Difficulty eating and swallowing * Regurgitation of food particles or sour liquid * Sensation of a lump in your throat - GERD Secondary to PTSD & PTSD secondary to GERD - Many veterans with GERD or acid reflux, especially those who were diagnosed long after leaving the military are eligible under the law for GERD secondary to PTSD. For example, if veterans are taking SSRIs to help manage their PTSD symptoms, perhaps you’re suffering from side effects of those SSRI medications, which can lead to digestive system issues. - What you need before you can get a GERD VA rating secondary - By law, there are three evidentiary elements that must be satisfied for GERD secondary to PTSD to prove secondary service connection: * A medical diagnosis of GERD in VA medical records or private records (unless you already have a diagnosis of GERD in your service treatment records) * Evidence of a service-connected primary disability (such as PTSD, depression, anxiety, migraines, IBS), AND * Medical nexus evidence establishing a connection between the service-connected disability (PTSD) and the current disability (GERD)
Today I interview Ashley Anderson who has coped with emetophobia as well as Hiatal Hernia, Hyperthyroidism, Migraines and Chronic Nausea. She also suffered Post-Partum Depression. Ashley at one point was completely unable to look after her baby due to her thyroid, but she has risen above all of that now and gives some great advice to other emetophobics.Trigger Warnings: One time I say "vomit" and Ashley briefly refers to being sick, but no stories are told and definitely no gory details!Quote: "Health is relative. Are you experiencing heartburn? Maybe you are regurgitating food or liquid into your mouth? Is there a backflow of stomach acid into the esophagus causing acid reflux? Perhaps you have difficulty swallowing or shortness of breath? These are all possible signs that you might have a hiatal hernia. If it is really bad you could have bloody stools. You need to see a doctor soon. A Hiatal Hernia is a condition in which the upper part of your stomach bulges through an opening in your diaphragm. Your diaphragm is the thin muscle that separates your chest from your abdomen. Your diaphragm helps keep acid from coming up into your esophagus. There is a muscle called the pyloric sphincter that may be involved. The pyloric sphincter is a ring of smooth muscle that connects the stomach and small intestine. It opens and closes to control the passage of partially digested food and stomach juices from the pylorus to the duodenum. If it gets stuck open acid is allowed to come back up causing some of the symptoms outlined above. Antacids are the most common medication you might use for relief. If your symptoms last longer then a few weeks you might be prescribed a proton pump inhibitor to decrease acid release in the stomach. The problem here is that you are addressing the symptoms. Long term use may cause a risk of fractures, pneumonia, diarrhea, hypomagnesemia, vitamin B12 deficiency, chronic kidney disease, and dementia. A pretty scary thing to consider. What you can do is to lose weight and change your diet. Then you may just consider seeing a chiropractor, yes, a chiropractor. Find one who is trained in treating Hiatal hernias, there are not many. I happen to be one. Let me explain. The diaphragmatic opening may be stuck in the open position due to your ribs being out of place. Have you ever stopped your car with a seat belt on? Of course, we all have. The sudden jolt can put your rib cage out of place. Maybe you took a bad spill skiing, or you were pulled suddenly when walking your dog. Accidents like these can cause the ribs to subluxate. There is the connective tissue that attaches to the rib cage that can cause the hiatal opening to be stuck in the open position. Now you are wondering how we fix this? Well, it requires an exam to see if your ribs are torqued. That may require what we call an adjustment. Next, we have to manually pull the tissue back down where it belongs. This might be a little uncomfortable but it can work when there are findings to substantiate the treatment. Now lets put this in perspective. You need to see your medical doctor first. I refuse to take a patient who has not gone through a complete medical workup. All the symptoms I mentioned above can be really serious. Everything else needs to be ruled out before I would consider seeing you. Hopefully, this makes sense. We don't see many cases but when we do we are fairly successful at helping these patients. I think you agree that staying away from proton pump inhibitors makes sense.Core Health Darien551 Post RoadDarien CT 06820203-656-3636

Rose has been going through a tough time with her health. She was just diagnosed with a hiatal hernia. If you're not familiar, this is when the stomach pushes through a part of the diaphragm muscle. There are a few other health topics we cover along the way from having her gallbladder removed to trying to stay active and fit. The decisions we make today impact us much more the further down the road we head.

Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend! I’m looking forward to sharing with you some of our community’s questions that have come in over the past few weeks… Let’s get started! Eliana: Hello, I would first like to say that I absolutely love your Podcasts and everything you have taught me thus far! I am a 21 year old personal trainer who is extremely interested in natural health and this podcast has changed my world! I have been struggling with a hiatal hernia for years. It feels like something is pressed up against my diaphragm or sometimes my left rib cage (it switches between those 2 places so sometimes I wonder if my diaphragm is out rather than it being a hiatal hernia). I have received chiropractic treatment for this and while the manual adjustment of pushing it back into place does help, it does not last. My mom, grandma, and twin sister also struggle with this. I had lymes disease 3-4 years ago (so did mom and sister) and was treated with a combination of homeopathy, Chinese herbs and glandulars by a lymes specialist in Maine. Also had H pylori and Epstein bar and was treated for those coinfections as well. Since then I feel great, had a feeling of relapse a year ago and cut out all food sensitivities. I feel great again but my hiatal hernia comes and goes in long phases. It is back now and I have not noticed any pattern to when it comes and goes. It causes me extreme stress and anxiety, especially at night. Also causes bloat. I have eaten extremely healthy (organic Whole Foods) since I was born thanks to my parents, and I pay attention to deficiencies, eat 3 meals a day, have a smoothie in the morning, fast for 12-13 hours, etc. I also exercise 5 days a week (lifting, cardio, mobility work, etc) and avoid crunching movements due to the hernia. I take zinc, B12, D3, and am a pescatarian/gluten, dairy, corn free, no processed foods, no antibiotics, don’t eat late at night, don’t overeat, eat tons of veggies and fruit. Please let me know what you know and suggest regarding hiatal hernias. Thank you so much! Christie: Good morning. Sorry for the long post but I’m hoping you can help. My mom started with diverticulosis in 2007 and in 2012 it became “moderate” diverticulitis. It got continually worse and then in 2017 she had a bowel resection done. They removed a foot of her colon. Ever since then she has dealt with horrible gas and constipation. She just had endoscopy done a few weeks ago because she felt like things weren’t passing through and the doctor said her stomach was red and inflamed but she does not have h. pylori. She also has Gastroparesis. The doctor then put her on Zantac two times a day for 4 weeks and Miralax at night. She also takes the Beachbody digestive boost. Her doctor has also mentioned putting her on Linzess. She can’t afford testing because my parents are retired and on a limited income so I’m wondering if you think doing a certain protocol would help her without testing first. Can you recommend anything? I would appreciate any suggestions. I’m not happy with how things are going for her and really want to see her healthy again. Laura: Hi I have a couple of questions. I have only been listening for around a month so I may have just missed this. I haven’t heard dr Cabral talk much about beans and legumes, is the a reason why hey aren’t recommended or not at the top of the list! I’m primarily veggie and eat a lot of veg, however I do like to add lentils, beans or chickpeas to my food to add in protein and other nutrients! I was just interested to find out what your take is on this. Also, I’m going to start a naturopath nutritional therapy course in the UK next month so maybe I will find all this out for myself. However I have taken nutritional supplements before and I use to really be bought into juicing detoxing. However I have read various things that suggests that a supplements can actually shorten your life and aren’t as good as they seem. Also taking butrioanl shakes with condensed nutrients can actually be difficult for your body to digest all at once. For example you would eat a whole meal in a few minutes, therefore how is it ok for your body to process nutritional supplement shakes in such a short amount of time! Thanks Laura Katherine: Hi there, I'm from Windsor, Ontario, Canada and I'm wondering if there is a ND over here that you would recommend? I have benefits through my work that would cover my appointments so that's why I was wondering if Dr. Cabral would recommend someone over here? Thank you so much for your time, Katherine Meg: Hi Stephen, Being located in Australia, I don’t have easy access to wild salmon as all Australian salmon is farmed. Therefore I wanted your advice in regards to the best salmon choices. Would you recommend consuming wild tinned salmon over fresh farmed salmon? Is tinned salmon equally as nutritious? Renae: Hello Dr Cabral, My Mum was diagnosed with hemolytic anaemia a couple of years ago and has been taking pharmaceutical medication daily to manage this. We both believe that there must be a way of finding the root cause and getting to the bottom of it so that she can feel well and be medication free again. Other symptoms she experiences separate from the anaemia are under active thyroid, osteo arthritis, IBS, foggy brain and really bad memory loss. She is only 62. She has tried to improve on things like diet to help herself and has seen a naturopath briefly but has not seen a change in her blood levels or other symptoms. I gratefully discovered your work a few months ago and I am very hopeful that with your advice on what labs she should run and where to start that she can finally find her path to wellness again. In the meantime I have given her a copy of your book. I did write in to your team who recommended the HTMA and OAT (thank you team :)), however given this is not a common auto immune condition I just wanted to be sure if there were any other recommendations you would make. Huge gratitude for your work. Warmest regards, Renae. Julie: Do you have any protocols to address nighttime bed wetting in children? I have read that there may be imbalances or constipation that could cause this, but my pediatrician says it’s normal for boys and he will likely outgrow the issue (6 yr old boy) I have 3 children, 2 no longer had night time issues once potty trained and did not have to be “taught” to make it through the night. Thank you for your insight. I have learned so much from your podcasts already! Julie Brittany: What are gse Citracidal drops? If you are interested in the low-carb, moderate protein, high-fat, ketogenic diet, then this is the podcast for you. We zero in exclusively on all the questions people have about how being in a state of nutritional ketosis and the effects it has on your health. There are a lot of myths about keto floating around out there and our two amazing cohosts are shooting them down one at a time. Keto Talk is cohosted by 10-year veteran health podcaster and international bestselling author Jimmy Moore from “Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb” and Pittsburgh, PA functional medicine practitioner Dr. Will Cole from DrWillCole.com who thoroughly share from their wealth of experience on the ketogenic lifestyle each and every Thursday. We love hearing from our fabulous Ketonian listeners with new questions–send an email to Jimmy at livinlowcarbman@charter.net. And if you’re not already subscribed to the podcast on iTunes and listened to the past episodes, then you can do that and leave a review HERE. Listen in today as Jimmy and Dr. Will Cole share the Keto good news in Episode 97. INSURANCE JUST FOR KETONIANS NOTICE OF DISCLOSURE: Paid sponsorship NOTICE OF DISCLOSURE: Paid sponsorship “When you are fat adapted, cravings are mitigated, unlike most other diets where it's just a matter of time until you give in to the cravings.” – Dr. Will Cole HERE’S WHAT JIMMY AND WILL TALKED ABOUT IN EPISODE 97: – Ketogenic Diets Are B.S. for Weight Loss — Here's Why – High-Fat Diet May Fuel Spread of Prostate Cancer – This Food Is Causing Inflammation & Making You Age Way Faster – More than two million lazy Brits will face serious health problems in the next 20 years – Students try the ketogenic diet – 'I was miserable and lost': Former binge eater who weighed 300LBS reveals how she lost almost 100LBS by 'breaking up with carbs' and following a ketogenic diet YOUR NEW KETO DIET ALLY NOTICE OF DISCLOSURE: Paid sponsorship – Why do I become more stressed, anxious, depressed, and have worse brain health when I switch to eating a ketogenic diet? Hey Jimmy and Will, I love what you guys do. You’re both a wealth of knowledge and I have learned so much from listening to your podcast. I am a 25 year old male, 220 pounds, 13 percent body fat, and a weightlifter. I have experimented with low-carb/ketogenic diets many times consuming 3500 calories with a macronutrient ratio of fat/protein/carbs at 75/23/3 making sure I supplement with plenty of electrolytes and high-quality sources of fat. My stress levels are somewhat high, but I work on keeping them in check. So here’s my issue: when I switch to a more ketogenic approach, I become very stressed, anxious, somewhat depressed, and actually feel like my brain is working at half-capacity. Based on what I hear you guys talk about with other Ketonians, this is quite the opposite of what should be happening. Why do I feel so crappy? My hypothesis is low serotonin levels, high cortisol levels, and perhaps a genetic inability to thrive on keto. Am I on to something or do you have anything else that I haven’t thought of yet? I am extremely frustrated because I believe keto is the ideal way to eat. Help please! Jordan – STUDY: Gluten free, low-carb diets could pose serious health risks to unborn babies MAKE KETO EASIER WITH FBOMB NOTICE OF DISCLOSURE: Paid sponsorship 1. Is there a connection between the high-fat content of a ketogenic diet with a hiatal hernia? Hey guys, I started keto to help me solve my acid reflux. I've been eating this way for 2 weeks and it seems like my acid is actually getting worse. It gets especially bad after I’ve consumed a really heavy, fatty meal. I am 5’6”,119 pounds, and pretty active. I am trying to gain weight so my daily fat intake is 200g with 20-30g carbohydrates, and 80-100g protein. I've been in ketosis for about 10 and experienced the keto flu which is now getting better. One week into eating keto, I had an upper endoscopy done and they found a small hiatal hernia. Their brochure, of course, said to stay away from fatty foods. They are also checking for gluten intolerance and I already know that I have a slight intolerance to lactose as I would break out with zits every time I drank milk. I haven’t received the result of those tests yet and I haven’t heard much about keto and the impact on a hiatal hernia. Are you are aware of any connection? Andreea 2. Would a ketogenic approach provide any relief from the symptoms I’m experiencing from having mono? Hi Jimmy and Will, Thanks for your podcast! I'm a 60 year old woman and have been keto off and on for years and strict keto of 20g carbs daily with intermittent/extended fasts mixed in since May 2016 netting blood ketones levels of .8-2.4. I don't have very much weight to lose and instead use this way of eating to stop my sweet cravings. I have had horrible exhaustion for years and have gone through many treatment programs from many alternative, functional medicine/nutrition programs, but nothing worked. Recently, an MD diagnosed me with the convalescent stage of mono and I have finally found my diagnosis! Sadly, this MD had no solution. Have you heard anything about the relationship between keto and mono? I can see my lymph nodes in my face and neck since they are often very swollen at night, I have annoying tinnitus, and I’m also quite bloated with tummy aches often—my doctor said it’s the mono causing these issues. Any ideas for me to try? I've spent so much money and time trying to get better, I'd love some hope. Thank you so much in advance. TM THE PERFECT KETO SUPPLEMENT USE COUPON CODE LLVLC FOR 15% OFF NOTICE OF DISCLOSURE: Paid sponsorship "With keto so popular right now, it's irresponsible journalism to not give readers the whole story. Try the diet, then report on the actual results." – Jimmy Moore 3. Could eating a ketogenic diet reduced the likelihood of developing a streptococcal bacteremia infection? Hi Jimmy and Dr. Cole, I’m 21 years old and have been ketogenic for the past three months seeing major improvements in my appetite, weight, and overall well-being. In 2016, I suffered from streptococcal bacteremia without ever finding the source of the infection. The infectious disease doctor said it was unlikely for me to ever develop it again, but I have a hindsight question about this: had I been eating keto before this happen, could it have reduced the likelihood of me having to suffer from this? Thanks for all the amazing work you do. Kayla KETO TALK MAILBOX – Will taking glycine force your body to burn leftover glucose or will it use stored body fat? Am I in ketosis or ketoacidosis? Hi Jimmy and Will, I have been eating low-carb for many years and have only a few more pounds left to lose. I'm currently 5'9" and 142 pounds. I use straight glycine powder (about 4g under my tongue and hold it there for at least 2 minutes) about 45 minutes after every meal to help my digestion. From what I understand, glycine is an amino acid that helps to release insulin to lower glucose and causes glycogen to be released leading to the release of fat cells. My blood ketones range from .9-1.9 mmol and my blood glucose is usually 4.8 to 5.4 (86-97 mg/dL). Am I in ketosis or ketoacidosis? Is the glycine forcing my body to burn leftover glucose and not actually burning fat? Or am I burning stored body fat? I’m so confused now and hope that you guys can clear this up for me. Make LIFE not war • Baby healed Hiatal Hernia
A hiatal hernia can be a devastating medical condition with the cause, unknown by most medical professionals. The cause of a hiatal hernia is from a weakened diaphragm and that can be from the neck and a abnormal function of the nervous system! Don't miss this life saving and life changing episode!
In this episode I discuss how to tell if you have GERD, Reflux or Hiatal Hernia GERD has become somewhat of a catch all these days- but the real problem may, in fact, be Hiatal Hernia- a condition where your diaphragm becomes strained and the stomach or esophagus becomes kinked or trapped above the diaphragm muscle resulting in things like palpitations, difficulty breathing, and reflux. If you have Hiatal Hernia, taking drugs for GERD or reflux will not solve the problem and will, over the long term exacerbate your health issues as you will no longer be able to properly digest food in the absence of sufficient stomach acid. Additionally, your mineral stores will become severely depleted as sufficient stomach acid is required to activate and absorb minerals from food. As a result, cavaties and osteopenia and osteoporosis, depression, cardiovascular problems, amongst other degenerative diseases driven by malnutrition may develop in your body. Even if you have been diagnosed with GERD- you may, in fact, have Hiatal Hernia instead as doctors aren’t trained to diagnose Hiatal Hernia. Even if they do an endoscopy… If you have signs of GERD or reflux, first test for acid sensitivity using the HCl test If you are HCl sensitive- use the Hiatal Hernia assessment and maneuver until you feel a change. Retake the HCl Test. If you are still sensitive- your stomach and esophagus may have been damaged from organic acids and your tissues need to heal. Take the Zypan Test (contact me for this free assessment) and follow the instructions for HCl positive results. If you are not HCl sensitive- take the ZYPAN Test (contact me for this free assessment) to optimize your digestion. Additionally, digestive enzymes are generally depleted and your digestion, assimilation of nutrients, and thereby your health will greatly benefit from taking a broad spectrum digestive enzyme like Multizyme from Standard Process (order from me- Orders over $20 shipping is free) “No one knows for sure what causes GERD. However, we have found that many GERD sufferers have inadequate digestive enzymes (acids) or faulty digestive enzyme production and distribution in their stomach and intestines. For most sufferers, the cause of the problem falls into one or more of four general categories: • Poor diet, poor food combining, overeating, and a high refined-carbohydrate-sugar intake. • Poor or inadequate digestive enzyme function in the stomach, pancreas, and small intestine. • Prescription drugs that contribute to reflux problems. • Mechanical problems in the diaphragm like a hiatal hernia or diaphragm strain (as discussed previously). For numbers one and two, relief is pretty easy. Number three can often be readily solved by working with your MD to get off the offending medication. And even if you have mechanical problems (as in number four), or a combination of problems, relief is most often possible. In most cases, it boils down to whether or not you can break bad habits to solve the problem and prevent serious throat disease. “ – Dr Bruce West, Health Alert Newsletter Additionally, it is important to consider the likely causes of Hiatal Hernia are structural in nature- just like a string- if your esophagus or stomach, have any slack in them, you may develop a pouch in the tube, making a Hiatal Hernia much easier to occur. The Basic 10 Series has, in the past, resolved Hiatal Hernia by doing what it does best- lengthening and organizing the body’s structure along its central, vertical axis. This literally “takes the slack out” of your internal structures like your esophagus, stomach, diaphragm, etc. This also has a whole body benefit by making you more efficient, taller in appearance, pain free, etc. Many times those who suffer from chronic Hiatal Hernia will need regular weekly or more treatment to relieve the situation. The Basic 10 series eliminates the need for regular care for this issue in most cases. “Mechanical Problems (Hiatal Hernia) Nowadays, thousands (perhaps millions) of people are being treated with drugs and even surgery to correct GERD, while no attention is paid to the mechanical or structural causes of the problem. Even those doctors who suggest a nutritional/dietary approach generally ignore mechanical/structural causes. That’s not surprising since probably not one in 1,000 physicians knows how to detect and correct the underlying and mechanical causes of GERD. Thanks to people like George Goodheart, DC, and in particular the now deceased Richard Van Rumpt, DC, the critical information needed to detect and correct hiatal hernia and mechanical causes of GERD is available. It is usually a chiropractor or kinesiologist or a practitioner of Structural Integration who knows how to perform this service. But you can often detect and treat a GERD problem yourself with the right data. Upwards of 50% of the general population over age 60 may have the structural weakness likened to a hiatal hernia, when a portion of the stomach or stomach contents are allowed up through the diaphragm into the chest cavity or esophagus (see schematic).
