Then we'll shift over to the Honda Civic Si, a name known and loved by many enthusiasts, and one that recently benefited from a model-line refresh. We'll wrap up with an all-new ride from their sister company Acura, the 2025 ADX, which makes their utility lineup bigger…by going smaller. But before that we'll focus our energy into a Lighting Round about lightning-fast EV charging tech and answer a double-header viewer question about using up all that recouped charge.

A Review Of Key AI/Automotive Innovations by Qualcomm and Ethernovia Including The Selection Of The Snapdragon Platform For The 2025 Cadillac Escalade IQ In this episode of The 5G Factor, our series that focuses on all things 5G, the IoT, and the ecosystem as a whole, The Futurum Group's Ron Westfall is joined by colleague and fellow analyst, Olivier Blanchard, for a look at the top 5G developments and what's going on that caught our eye. Their conversation underscored: Qualcomm Spotlights Benefits of Running Gen AI on Devices. We see the cost of running generative AI models on-device versus the cloud translates directly to the amount of power required to run these models. Edge devices with efficient AI processing offer leading performance per watt, especially when compared with the cloud. Edge devices can run generative AI models at a fraction of the energy, especially when considering not only processing but also data transport. This difference is significant in energy costs as well as helping cloud providers offload data center energy consumption to meet their environmental and sustainability goals. We examine why on-device processing performance of mobile devices has increased by double-digits with each technology generation and is projected to continue this trend, and how Qualcomm's portfolio is integral to optimizing generative AI models across the global digital ecosystem through edge device optimization.  Ethernovia: Accelerating Vehicle Data Architecture Transformation. New entrant Ethernovia is charting a portfolio development course that aggregates enormous quantities of data and routing between AI and SoC chipsets, which requires high bandwidth, low latency intelligent fabrics. As vehicle architectures evolve from domain-centric controllers toward zonal architectures, networking solutions must concurrently evolve to support higher data rates of advanced vehicle applications while meeting demand for improved reliability and security. We assess why zonal architectures are critical to advancing and scaling fast-evolving software-defined vehicle (SDV) applications such as Advanced Driver-Assisted Systems (ADAS), autonomous driving (AD) and a rich ecosystem of customer software delivered Over the Air (OTA), including 5G connectivity. Ericsson on Board for Intel's 18A Process. Qualcomm's announcement that the 2025 Cadillac Escalade IQ will leverage several core automotive platforms from its Snapdragon Digital Chassis solutions stack in one vehicle points to both the growing appeal for automakers to streamline the design of their software-defined vehicles and to the accelerating maturity of Qualcomm's portfolio of automotive solutions. The four pillars of Qualcomm's Snapdragon Digital Chassis stack focus on connectivity, cockpit tech (digital instrument clusters and infotainment), Car-to-Cloud features (think OTA updates), and ADAS (the Snapdragon Ride Platform delivers a broad swath of driver-assist and autonomous driving features). We review GM's decision to power the 2025 Escalade IQ with key Snapdragon automotive platforms and why it sends a clear signal to the industry that it trusts Qualcomm to deliver the goods when it comes to uncompromisingly redefine the Escalade for the EV era.

Our revamped lineup of EV experts – this week staring Miss GoElectric, Hazel Southwell, Brett Evans, and Seyth Miersma – dive deep into a big week of EV launches and news.  Cadillac's imposing new Escalade IQ debuted this week, with 450 miles of range, a 0-60 time of under five seconds, and one of the biggest battery packs in the world. Undeniably impressive but will the posh new Caddy EV be any good? We also talk GM delivery issues, Rivian gains in production and profits, and sort through which classic cars we'd remake as EVs.

From the get-go, it was the cream of the crop. It's what everybody wanted. Almost immediately, it became a status symbol in the same way the best Cadillacs were decades before. The Escalade IQ is riding on a wave of all that history, all that cachet and all of that greatness, and only now it's in a fully electrified package."It's 4 inches wider and a foot longer than a standard EscaladeOutput of as much as 750hp, 0-60 in 5 seconds, and has a 55” curved display borrowed from the luxury CelestiqExecs confirmed that the new model will be sold alongside ICE models on Dealership lotsOnline technology retailer Newegg is working to transform reviews in e-comm with its latest AI-driven feature. I'll be back as usual at 5pm UK time, that's Midday Eastern, for the full podcast.  Patreon supporters get the episodes as soon as they're ready AND ad free. You can be like them by clicking here.  Ford unveils a second-generation of EVs, including a full-size pickup and three-row SUV EV, and plans to produce 2 million EVs annually by 2026. It also announces mineral deals with several companies to secure the supply of lithium products supporting the EVs production.  General Motors is set to launch an all-electric Cadillac Escalade called the Escalade iQ, with specifications and production details yet to be confirmed. This addition to Cadillac's EV lineup is expected to play a significant role in GM's long-term strategy.  Texas imposes a new tax on electric vehicles, requiring owners to pay $400 registration and $200 renewal fees, in a bid to generate revenue for the state's highway expenses. The new tax is expected to add about $350 to the cost of owning an EV for Texans.  Tesla is shipping more vehicles from its Shanghai plant to the North American market, likely driven by tax credit rules and the incentives offered through Canada's iZEV program. This strategy signifies Tesla's potential to expand its shipping operations to Canada.  Three abandoned Tesla Roadsters from 2008, stored in sealed sea containers, have reached a bid of $750,000 in an ongoing auction. Despite having no knowledge of their exact condition, the vehicles are expected to have zero miles on their odometers.  Tesla slashes prices on its new inventory with RWD Model 3s starting at $39,030, an attempt to clear out existing units ahead of upcoming model facelifts. This is part of Tesla's strategy to capitalize on economies of scale as it increases production in its global Gigafactories.  The US government initiates two programs aimed at establishing a national network of 500,000 public EV charging ports. This involves funding testing and validation of charging equipment and creating a centralized data platform for EV charger data reporting.  Panasonic announces plans to quadruple its EV battery production by 2031 by focusing on North American production. The strategy includes building at least two new factories to produce 4680 battery cells.  Jeep seeks to expand its presence in the UK market by concentrating on electrification. After admitting past failures in the UK, Jeep's boss believes the excitement around electric 4x4s can help the company's growth in the country.  China has overtaken Japan as the world's top auto exporter, spurred by a 58% increase in automobile exports and a 93% rise in new energy vehicle exports. This surge was supported by the Chinese government's backing for domestic EV growth.  Lucid Motors announces pricing for two more Lucid Air variants in Europe, the Air Pure AWD and Air Touring, set to be delivered in Q3 and Q4 2023 respectively. Both models use a smaller 92 kWh battery pack, providing up to 725 kilometers of range.  Rolls-Royce plans to start production of its Spectre electric coupé in September, with an estimated price of over half a million euros. Orders placed today are expected to be delivered in 2025, showing high demand for the company's first all-electric car.  Gotion unveils its Astroinno L600 LMFP battery cell and pack, a cobalt-free solution that achieves a 1000km range. Set to start mass production in 2024, the battery tech will be available to Volkswagen, Gotion's largest shareholder.
