Jordan Crucchiola (Aughsterion, Disaster Girls) joins us to champion one of the more bizarre movies of 1999, THE GENERAL'S DAUGHTER.We break down John Travolta's career, from his highest highs, to his lowest lows, and where he could have been today, had he made the right choices. Jordan defends the whole of this film as being better than its parts, and explains how its unapologetic depiction of rape and murder gives it a surprisingly feminist viewpoint. Can she sway Phil and Kenny in the direction of liking this overtly scientologist movie? On the cusp of the pandemic, Jordan - Founder of Listen Lucy, had just invested for her business to scale from speaking engagements into a speaking agency but 2020 decided otherwise and with events coming to a halt, her business collapsed. Today we talk about how we both sank on the 2020 boat and what helped us bounce back. Both with very different surroundings and support systems. *Content note: this episode discusses anxiety and suicide prevention, discretion is advised* We go over: • How to deal with a crisis. • When your livelihood is taken away from you, how to cope so you can move on to your next chapter? • In order to be the best parent for your kids, you sometimes need to prioritise yourself. • To quote Jordan: “That's the thing with mental illness. As your life changes, so does the illness, and you have to adapt.” If a coping mechanism doesn't work anymore, drop it and replace it with something else, don't stunt your process. • When you're feeling depressed or anxious, how do we convey how we're feeling without freaking people out or making them feel powerless? • When mental health issues are part of who we are, we shouldn't apologise for that. • We all have mental health. • When pulling away from your partner because you're ashamed of showing them your mental health, that can be a breach of trust. • Why spreading the message and exposing herself like this, is so important for Jordan. • The 5 warning signs your friend may not be doing well and needs you to check in [WHAP which stands for Withdrawal - Hopelessness - Agitation - Poor self care &/or Personality change]. • The Upper limit problem. This week Kelly and Lindsey sit down with comedy writer, high school drama star, podcaster and all around funny human, Jordan Morris. Because Jordan grew up in the OC, we start our school day in Art Class where we play "Six Degrees of OC Punk Bands", where Lindsey somehow connects Jackson Pollock and ska, punk rock and Monet, and Sublime and Picasso. Convoluted? Yes. Does it work? Let us know! Then, because Jordan Morris 'went hard with the drama club' we go on over the Drama Class where we play party quirks and old-timey voices run wild, see? They really do, see? (Said while twirling a mustache and smoking a cigar) Speaking of drama, during recess, Jordan tells us a story about his award-winning performance in his high school performance of 'Our Town' where he brought the audience to tears (or brought just himself to tears because he had to sneeze) What class is after recess? Aliens and Astronomy, of course. Lindsey leads the game, "It's All About The Aliens, Baby" where we dive into UFOs, ancient cave drawings of anal probes, and Blink182's intimate connection to alien life. It turns out, 'Aliens Exist'. See what we did there? It's a song from 'Enema of the State'. Forget it. Kelly then forces us to go to Religion Class where we learn all about exorcisms and that talking about exorcisms isn't cute. We also learn that exorcisms make one of them super horny but you'll have to listen to find out who. Jordan ends our school day with a game called, "Ice Ice Agey" where we do a deep dive into Ice Age animals. Think you know everything about Dire Wolves? Guess again! Will Lindsey skank her way to the top? Will Kelly exorcise the demons? Will Jordan make us sneeze cry? THE ANSWER IS YES. Host and Emerald City Native Jordan Long goes over some exciting details from Oregon Football's singing day. We talk about new OC Joe Moorhead, get some good quotes from Coach Cristobal, highlight new signee Jaysin Jones, and talk a little about the new QBs on the squad. We then talk about Justin Herbert's Draft profile, which will be the beginning of what I am sure will be a lot of draft talk coming in future episodes. We do a little preview about the defensive struggles that Oregon might have tonight against Oregon State Beavers in the 353rd Civil War Game. Jordan and I sat down for a memorable conversation over the necessity of digging in your heels and taking action. Jordan has spent the past 18 months on the road teaching coaches and trainers from around the world. In this, was an insightful outlook and takeaway he has had thus far. Jordan not only looks like an outlaw, he thinks like one. He—like Luke from last week—is a very bright and “switched on” individual who I think you should be following and learning from. Getting to know Jordan is an exercise in patience and tolerance and pure entertainment - they are holding all the parts of themself, and the listener's job is to sit back and help contain it and appreciate it and let the it cis-normative-patriarchy of it all wash over you. Today’s episode of EMBody Radio was SO much fun to record! Jordan Syatt is a world record powerlifter and 27th degree black belt in chugging coffee. He's been featured in CNN, The Huffington Post, and Men's Health among other mainstream publications. He owns and operates his online health company, SyattFitness, (which he accidentally started from his college dorm room). And he also owns Unicorn Magic Coffee Co, a politically incorrect membership-based coffee club. In today’s show, we talk about everything from: -Anal beads… Wait what? (Definitely some adult language on this episode), -Which Harry Potter book/movie is the best one (very important discussion), -Building an Instagram by giving people value instead of making them “envy” you, -Growing up with an eating disorder, -How to try new things with fitness when you’re scared of abandoning your “identity” in one form of fitness (bodybuilding, powerlifting, Crossfit, etc), -Staying fit with a hectic schedule, -Why being strict isn’t always a bad thing, -Why it's good to suck at things, -Creating “bright lines” to help you reach your goals and be productive, -Battling your ego in fitness, -… so much more! This episode is full of so much value and I know you’re going to love it. Also, be sure to let me know how you liked having a co-host on the show today! ----------------------- Today's episode of EMBody Radio is brought to you by Four Sigmatic. Four Sigmatic provides the best in adaptogenic/therapeutic mushroom products. You’ve seen me post about this stuff on Instagram and IG stories all the time, and I wanted to take a sec to tell you a little more about them today. I started using them because I love adaptogens, and many of their mushroom products are just that – adaptogens. Adaptogens basically help you respond better to physical and emotional stress. I run a business, run multiple social media platforms that tie into my business, I’m a student, and I have a life outside of all that that I’m trying to live, so stress management is key. Mushrooms can also be used to help everything from your gut health to your skin. My favorites are the Lion's Mane Mushroom Elixir and the Mushroom Hot Cacao with Reishi... Jordan chats with her friend and breathwork inspiration Ashley Neese, a leading breathwork specialist and absolutely radiant soul. Ashley used to do a lot of all sorts of things in the wellness space (think teaching yoga, health coaching, leading meditations, and so on), but she started focusing on her core passion that set her soul on FIRE – a huge testament to the art of focusing inward in order to create big things. Being an expert on one subject is no joke. Breathwork sounds really simple, but the true practice is way more than just breathing; it’s a form of active meditation that can help you stay grounded in yourself, your truth, and your authenticity, can help regulate your nervous system, AND it can be life-changing -- if you let it. As co-founder of The Art of Charm, he has helped develop one of the leading self-development programs in the world, with a special expertise in social capital, relationship-building, and authentic rapport. He is also the host of The Art of Charm Podcast, where he interviews leading entrepreneurs, celebrities, authors, and experts on psychology, human performance, behavioral economics, and success. In our wide-ranging discussion, Jordan and I talk about: How The Art of Charm came to be (and how it evolved to be differ from the pick-up artist movement) What kinds of things go on at his intense, 6-day live programs Where his work at the Art of Charm draws from the world of Positive Psychology Why it’s important to seek expertise from the right places and set healthy expectations Why feeling comfortable in your skin is more of a subtractive process than an additive process, and how to go about achieving this Why we need to delegate nonverbal communication to the level of habit, and some actionable tips for doing so (such as his famous “doorway drill”) Why we should be more open to the idea of outgrowing friends, and signs it’s time to let a friend go How all of this relates to the delicate balance of being and becoming, and the risks inherent in not striving to be your most authentic self This episode offers a lot of food for thought around self development and how we can use scientifically-proven techniques to lead happier and more fulfilling lives. “A core principle of my own life, and upon which this company was founded, is that one should leave everything and everyone better than you found them.” Jordan Harbinger has always had an affinity for social influence, interpersonal dynamics, and social engineering, helping private companies test the security of their communications systems and working with law enforcement agencies before he was even old enough to drive. Forbes named him one of the 50 best relationship-builders anywhere and Inc. Magazine calls him “the Charlie Rose of Podcasting.” Jordan has spent several years abroad in Europe and the developing world, including South America, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East, and speaks five languages. He has also worked for various governments and NGOs overseas, traveled through war zones, and been kidnapped — twice. The only reason he’s still alive and kicking is because of his ability to talk his way into (and out of) just about any type of situation. Here at The Art of Charm, Jordan shares that experience, and the system borne as a result, with students and clients. Jordan has spent several years abroad in Europe and the developing world, including South America, Eastern Europe and the Middle East, and speaks several languages. He has also worked for various governments and NGOs overseas, traveled through war-zones and been kidnapped -twice. He’ll tell you; the only reason he’s still alive and kicking is because of his ability to talk his way into (and out of), just about any type of situation. Here at The Art of Charm, Jordan shares that experience, and the system borne as a result, with students and clients. Find Jordan at www.theartofcharm.com Join us on Facebook or at www.increasemysmallbusiness.com where we talk about small business issues and tips, from small business mentors, coaches and small business owners.
