Are you a restless sleeper? Always feel exhausted? Is your sleep interrupted by snoring? If so, this podcast interview is for YOU! Join Kristy Jo as her guest, Carl Lanore, takes us on a journey to better understand sleep. Over 20 years ago, Carl had a heart problem and was over 300 pounds. One of the key parts of his regaining health was focusing on improving his sleep. We're not supposed to snore. This means your airway is obstructed which raises cortisol as your body receives a stress signal. If you are snoring, Carl says you must get it addressed. This could be due to: 1. Gut problems (view Kristy Jo's program to help with this--www.PowerFoodsDetox.com--complete 1-3x) 2. Dairy Sensitivity and Nasal Obstruction (sinus infection) Carl has taken Melatonin for over 20 years. Melatonin is the only antioxidant that crosses the blood-brain barrier. It is not a sleep aid directly, but indirectly. How can you preserve your own melatonin? 1. Wear Blue Blockers in the final few hours of the day (3 hours before going to sleep). 2. Take 600 mcg/night 1/2 hour before going to sleep. Only take this if you sleep between 7-9 hours each night. "If you don't sleep well, you will die sooner." "If you don't sleep well, you will develop disease." Carl advocates that in order to improve sleep, it must be tracked. He says sleep is like the ocean where you can stand and look out at it and think it's beautiful, but there is so much beneath the surface that you can't see. Do you need to eat in the middle of the night? You're waking up because your blood sugar is dropping dramatically. This can mean your insulin sensitivity is off and you're on the track to Diabetes. If you're someone like this, go buy some Glycine. Take 3-5 grams before bedtime. It's the most glucogenic amino acid and easily becomes glucose on demand. This will help keep your blood sugar level. Cravings and Emotional Eating in Keto- When you are dealing with cravings that are setting you back in your health, you may feel frustrated as you can't get in control! In this podcast, Kristy Jo will discuss the difference between cravings and fixations to help YOU determine what is the cause of your cravings. Cravings are those coming as a result of physiological depletion. Fixations come from a psychological focus on food, marketing, or the lusting after food that you may have felt you can't have. We want to create a HEALTHY relationship with food, rather than deprivation and anxiety-driven relationship. Questions to ask yourself when you are experiencing a craving: Is that what your body needs? When was your last fueling? Do you need more food? Are my portions too small? Have I missed any of my supplements? Or is this a fixation? Have you ever wondered HOW to get yourself motivated to make a change? If so, you're not alone. This is a question most people wonder about. In fact, most people feel if they could find the answer to this question they would make all the changes in their health, fitness, and weight they could! Register for the 28-day KETO Challenge with Kristy Jo: www.PowerFoodsLifestyle.com/ketochallenge In this episode, Kristy Jo will discuss four aspects of motivation: * This is an inside job. Look to yourself for answers instead of celebrities, your Instagram friends, spouses, family, or church leaders. Look inside your heart. * Make a list of logical reasons why you need to make a change. * Make a list of emotional reasons why you need to make a change. * Women--don't expect your man to validate something within you that you can't validate yourself. When ARE you "Enough?" * Why do you have a body? Have you ever investigated this question? Have you felt strongly in your heart why your beliefs are true? Use your beliefs about why you have a body to MOTIVATE YOU. For me, it all comes down to believing I will be accountable for my time and how I treated my body to God. The body isn't mine--it's on loan. What does the connection feel like when you're connected to God? It's a constant immersion--praying always. If you or someone you love has been dealing with migraines or a mental health condition, this Body Buddies podcast episode is for you! Patty Butts, PhD sits down with host, Kristy Jo, to discuss the details of the MTHFR gene mutation, and how nutritional choices can manifest negatively in mental health. “All mental health begins in the gut," she said. "The vagus nerve and the gut are connected.” Patty goes on in the episode to explain how she understands the emotions that can trigger depression: anger, guilt, loss of esteem, love, etc. However, she feels there is more. "Of course there are emotional components, but we are missing the boat by not having a young person who is depressed or acting out not having their blood tested. I wish this could be taught in every health class. Our young people need to know there are physiological reasons they’re depressed. Sometimes it’s genetic, high histamine, or what they’re eating." Additional symptoms people experience should cause us to check for the MTHFR gene mutation. These include: Sleep disturbance Cardiovascular Depression Fatigue Chronic Pain Mental Illness History of Miscarriages Patty Butts is a Licensed Professional Counselor, has a Ph.D. in Holistic Nutrition, an M.Ed. in counseling, a B.S. in Communications & Journalism, and is the author of "Defeating Depression & Beating the Blues," and "Free Yourself From Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia. She went back to school after battling Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia for 5 years and being deathly ill. Only then did she discover she has liver cancer and a fragile immune system. With an alkaline diet where she juiced every day and did microscopy, she was able to recover fully. She discovered she had more parasites in her blood than the doctor had ever seen. Within 4 months she was in remission. Patty is a Grandmother, mother of seven, stepmother to twelve. Clinical and medical hypnotist, NLP, and Certified Emotion Code Practitioner, and Life Coach www.healingyourspirit.com www.chronicfatigueandhealingyourspirit.com, Clinical Hypnotist, Jordan Heights Holistic Mental Health, South Jordan, Utah Certified Elan Light therapist. About MTHFR MTHFR is a genetic defect. It is an enzyme that adds a methyl group to a form of folate. This process is called methylation which is important as it. These enzymes impact gene regulation, hormones, build immune system, produce energy, and protect nerve cells. 40 out of 100 people have this and don’t know it… and now 1 out of every 2 people has some form. You can’t handle folic acid when you have MTHFR, which is in everything. The government mandated folic acid (B9) added to the foods due to birth defects and added to cereals and bread. It’s also in most vitamins so look in the medicine cupboard. Take methylfolate and active Vitamin B12. Candida craves sugar, dairy, and carbohydrates. It’s a yeast in you saying ‘feed me, feed me, feed me.’ IT can cause all kinds of symptoms like fibromyalgia, fatigue, and depression by building up the lactic acid. Taking antibiotics is like having an atomic bomb going off in your stomach. They produce all kinds of candida. They kill off good bacteria and produce growth of bad bacteria. 3 ways to eliminate brain fog- Brain fog, or brain fatigue, is impacting many men and women in our society. When you are experiencing brain fog, you feel lack of focus, confusion, lethargy, poor memory recall, and muted thoughts. Life is not as vibrant and clear as it once was. Brain fog can often be a symptom of low thyroid function, adrenal insufficiency, or chronic fatigue syndrome. It is also the result of inhibited insulin receptivity--a condition called insulin resistance. In this episode, Kristy Jo will discuss three specific ways you can start to shift your eating to eliminate brain fog. These are simple tweaks that will make a significant difference in your health. Healthy fats are the pathway to giving the brain more nourishment, navigating around the body's resistance to insulin, and giving the hormones the re-set they need. In this Body Buddies podcast episode, Mary Tate courageously shares her story of debilitation for over a decade with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder from her teenage years through her mid-twenties. She lived in one room in her parents' home and didn't know if she would ever live a "regular" life. After she was able to find solutions, Mary got married to her sweetheart. She then had a son who brought new challenges into her life with what she discovered eventually as Sensory Processing Disorder. In her conversation with Kristy Jo, she shares the following: At what point of something being "off" with your child do you need to accept something is wrong? When do you take your child into a specialist? How years of Occupational Therapy and Tactile Therapy slowly helped her son to begin functioning like a healthy, young boy. Sensory Processing Disorder--what it looks like, sounds like, and the experience of home schooling a child with SPD. How gut health is connected to helping her son function as healthily as possible. How yogurt is not the best source of probiotics or children and the sugar content is far too high to be the best choice (ad the type of place to actually find a good probiotic). Why artificial colors are so problematic for kids, even without ADHD, to increase hyperactivity. Why keeping sugar low in children is a top focus point. How families can find community for support, ideas, and therapies online. Mary and her husband didn't sit back and complain that their son had so many conditions to work through. They stood up to find solutions, help their son, and Mary now helps other families with children who have special needs. When you power your body, you work on it from the inside out. From faith and the spirit to the thoughts and food, you have control over what goes into your body! In holistic health, the whole body is integrated. This includes thinking, attitude, emotions, beliefs, fitness, and nutrition. It's the whole body approach. "Mary believes mothers should always advocate for their child. YES! You can do this! You go through things for a reason. As you get further into your life, you will be able to bless and serve those behind you." Mary offers the following for Special Needs Families: 1. As a teenager, Mary suffered with severe OCD and was debilitated for 10 years of her life. She was 60 lbs. overweight and depressed. Through the grace of God, she fought here way out and eventually got married and had a family. Her first son had a rough start in life. He was plagued with oral aversion which made it hard to breastfeed, low muscle tone which resulted in developmental delays, chronic constipation, eczema, and reflux. At 12 months of age, he was diagnosed as Failure to Thrive and had Sensory Integration Dysfunction which is now known as Sensory Processing Disorder. The family went through years of feeding therapy, occupational therapy and physical therapy to help get him on the right track. As a mom to a special needs child, Mary knew the importance of adopting a healthier lifestyle than what she grew up with, so did the research and started introducing a whole foods approach to their meals. It was hard for him, but she fought every day to get him the nutrition he needed. She kept breastfeeding so that he was also getting the nutrition that I was taking in as well. In 3rd grade, he was diagnosed with ADHD and we started a whole new level of education. So that’s when she decided to get certified as a health coach. She did it for her son and now wants to give back and serve those families who are following behind her. Mary follows the Dr. Sears model of health. L.E.A.N.
