Ready to experience the Gospel of Thomas in its original intention? You'll get the latest and often startling research on this text as Dr. David Litwa joins me to discuss his new book, The Gnostic Thomas: An Introduction to the Gospel of Thomas. Sorry, academia, but the Gospel of Thomas is truly a Gnostic expression. This sophisticated spiritual text emphasizes salvation through gnosis, opposition to archons, the inner light, rejection of the flesh, rejection of the world, and a seeker's outlook. We'll also delve deeper to uncover its true origins, attitude towards women, and how it interacts with the synoptic texts. Preaching, says Heath Hardesty, should do more than explain a passage of Scripture - it should take listeners on a journey that awakens thirst and points them to the living water of Christ. In this session, recorded at Valley Community Church in Pleasanton, California, Hardesty unpacks how the “arc” and the “through-line” of expository preaching bring sermons into harmony with the larger story of redemption.Drawing from John 7:37–39, he demonstrates how faithful exposition stirs a Spirit-given sense of need and satisfies the soul's ache in the gospel. The teaching weaves together theology, cultural insight, and pastoral wisdom, offering a vision of preaching that is unified, Spirit-led, and Christ-centred.About Heath HardestyHeath Hardesty serves as Lead Pastor of Valley Community Church in Pleasanton, CA, and is a founder of Inklings Coffee & Tea in the heart of downtown Pleasanton. He grew up in a blue-collar home and was a plumber's apprentice in Colorado before becoming a pastor on the edge of Silicon Valley, where he, his wife, and their four children now reside. Heath holds degrees in literature, leadership, biblical studies, and theology from the University of Colorado Boulder and Western Seminary in Portland. His forthcoming book, All Things Together: How Apprenticeship to Jesus Is the Way of Flourishing in a Fragmented World (with a foreword by Jon Tyson), will be released October 14, 2025.Pre-Order Heath's Book Here: https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/776336/all-things-together-by-heath-hardesty/For information about our upcoming training events visit ExpositorsCollective.com The Expositors Collective podcast is part of the CGNMedia, Working together to proclaim the Gospel, make disciples, and plant churches. In this episode, Rob Wegner discusses the significance of clear and reproducible gospel language within the context of microchurches. He emphasizes the centrality of the gospel in the life of believers, illustrating how it serves as a transformative power and a new operating system for engaging with life. Wegner introduces the concept of fractals in faith, suggesting that simplicity in the gospel can lead to profound understanding and disciple-making. He also shares insights on the 'saved wholes gospel' and the importance of integrating the gospel into all aspects of life.
In this week's One Decision In Brief, hosts Kate McCann and Sir Richard Dearlove, former MI6 Chief, discuss how Israel is deploying AI on the battlefield and how the technology is intercepting calls, mapping behavior, and even generating target lists. They examine the two most common AI models employed, called "Lavender" and “Gospel,” how they're driving innovation and whether international law can keep pace with this new era of machine-driven warfare. Is this the future of war? What happens when algorithms, not humans, are shaping life-and-death decisions? Episode produced by Situation Room Studios. Once DNA testing became commonly available, many jumped in to explore their roots. “Today” became far more interesting when connected to “yesterday.” Is there an equivalent with the Bible? Is the common sense of detachment we may feel from Old Testament characters justified, or is there in fact an ancestral connection? We'll check out the family tree in this study. A B Simpson-The gospel of healing by RealCUF
This sermon unpacks the opening of Mark's Gospel, showing how John the Baptist prepared the way for Jesus as foretold by the prophets. At His baptism, Jesus is revealed as God's beloved Son, empowered by the Spirit, and set on a mission that would lead to the cross and victory over sin and Satan. The preacher emphasises the urgency of repentance and belief, reminding us that the gospel is the true good news and the only hope for salvation. Christianity is not a partial commitment but a call to make Christ the central authority and organising principle of our lives. The message concludes with a clear challenge: today is the time to repent, believe, and live under the kingship of Jesus.

When Jesus shows up, He doesn't just adjust a few things, He changes everything. Great Britain finds itself in the throws of a great storm. Britishflags are removed, while foreign flags are untouched. Mass migration floods the country, destabilizing cities and towns. Crime and violence stalk the streets. And the country's “leaders” cater to illegal immigrants while clamping down on British citizens. What is one to make of this madness? Most British people aregrasping for answers. Sadly, the mainstream churches in Britain have little to offer. They have long sinceabandoned Christ, the Gospel and biblical Truth. These churches look and sound no different than the world. Consequently, they have nothing to offer the world. But careful observers will notice something is changing; afaint spark glowing in the British cultural darkness. These are the early embers of reformation. Amidst the chaos, some Christians who retained the faith are finding their voices. Some are taking their first steps at countering the lies and ugliness engulfing their island. And regular people are taking a fresh look at enduring Truth. The Church in Britain may yet rise again. To help us better understand what is going on, Dr. Aaron Edwards joins Andy on this episode of the Christian Emergency Podcast. Though they first consider the recent tragedy in America – where a Catholic church and school was targeted in Minneapolis – they focus most of their time on developments in Britain. Every year since 1981 a tournament has taken place to promote high school baseball in Hillsborough County, which has Tampa, Florida, as its seat. It was first established as a memorial for Tony Saladino, Sr. and, as of December 2019, had grown from eleven public schools to a 32-team event, with 38 players that have participated in the tournament having gone on to play in the Major Leagues, 12 of which were first round draft picks. He had been at the heart of all of this for all those years.
Are You Ready for Your Earthly Death? Is Your Salvation Sure? If Not, Make Yourself Ready Now Through God's Grace and the Gospel MESSAGE SUMMARY: Be ready for the end of your earthly life and the return of the Lord. In 1 Thessalonians 5:1-2, Paul writes to the Christians at the church in Thessalonica: “Now concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need to have anything written to you. For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, ‘There is peace and security,' then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. But you are not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise you like a thief. For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness. So, then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober.”. Are you ready? Are you sure in your Salvation? If not, make yourself ready and keep ready! God's Grace and the Gospel of Jesus prepare you for your earthly death while providing the means for your Eternal Life! TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, you know how difficult it is for me to be in silence before you. At times it feels almost impossible, given the demands, distractions, and noise all around me. I invite you to lead me to a quiet, silent place before you — to a place where I can hear you as Elijah did. In Jesus' name, amen. Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 123). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, Because of who I am in Jesus Christ, I will not be driven by Anger. Rather, I will abide in the Lord's Forgiveness. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5). Maybe you've seen video of someone holding a dog high and dry over a body of water and the dog is “dog paddling” with its front legs. An instinctual response, but not really accomplishing anything. 5 Keys to Living Ephphatha (Ep. 478)This week we open the Gospel where Jesus heals the deaf and mute man with the cry: “Ephphatha! Be opened!” This isn't just physical healing—it's the cry of Christ to every soul gasping for spiritual breath. Together, we identify five keys to living opened lives: hearing God's Word daily, speaking life instead of fear, healing the silence of shame, courageously proclaiming Christ in public, and cultivating homes that echo His voice. If you've felt spiritually stagnant or muted, this episode is a lifeline.God is calling. His grace is waiting.
Daily Dose of Hope September 1, 2025 Scripture – Luke 13:22-35 Prayer: Abba Father, We come to you today with gratitude. Thank you for loving us. Thank you for wanting a relationship with us. Thank you for never leaving our side. Help us to follow you more closely, Lord. We need your truth. We need your guidance and direction. With every fiber of our being, we need you. As we read your Word today and reflect on it, Lord, speak to us. Help us grow closer to you. Let us know where we are falling short so that we can be the people you have called us to be. In Your Name, Amen. Welcome back to the Daily Dose of Hope, the devotional and podcast that complements the Bible reading plan for New Hope Church in Brandon, Florida. Happy Monday! We are currently working our way through the Gospels and Acts. Today, we are finishing up Luke 13. Jesus tells his listeners that the way to heaven is through the narrow door. He doesn't directly answer the question about how many will be saved. It's less an issue about how many (which is out of our control) but rather you will be saved (totally in our control). The door is narrow because only a few choose to truly follow Jesus through it. Most people would choose the wider door or the wider road; it's easier and most of the people are headed that way. This Scripture always reminds me of Robert Frost's poem, The Road Not Taken. Many of you probably know it. I would close with the poem except for Frost was a complicated man who was never that clear about his faith. He had some kind of belief but never professed Jesus as Savior. I think he struggled with this narrow door/wide door issue. And there really isn't anything more important in life, getting the doors and roads correct. Yet, elements of Frost's work point to exactly what Jesus is saying, “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.” Which door have you chosen? Which road will you pursue? We close today's reading with Jesus' sorrow over Jerusalem. This text has always touched me. People are warning Jesus to leave Jerusalem. Even Jewish leaders are warning Jesus that Herod is out to get him, although we have no idea if their concern is sincere. But most people know Jesus is no longer safe there. The stark reality is that powerful people want him gone, as in dead. But he continues to lament over his people, he laments over the city. Keep in mind that to Jews, Jerusalem was the center of everything. This is where the Temple resided. This was God's city. Jesus proclaims, “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing. Look, your house is left to you desolate. I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.'” And when he says this, he is grieving over his city, God's city. But he is also making a point. Jesus knows his fate. He tells them to warn the fox (Herod) that he already knows his fate. Jesus knows what will happen and he knows that it will happen in Jerusalem. He will be killed but he will rise in three days. God will have the last word. Blessings, Pastor Vicki
+ A Reading from the Gospel according to Saint Luke 4: 16 – 30 He came to Nazareth, where he had grown up, and went according to his custom into the synagogue on the sabbath day. He stood up to read and was handed a scroll of the prophet Isaiah. He unrolled the scroll and found the passage where it was written: "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord." Rolling up the scroll, he handed it back to the attendant and sat down, and the eyes of all in the synagogue looked intently at him. He said to them, "Today this scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing." And all spoke highly of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his mouth. They also asked, "Isn't this the son of Joseph?" He said to them, "Surely you will quote me this proverb, 'Physician, cure yourself,' and say, 'Do here in your native place the things that we heard were done in Capernaum.'" And he said, "Amen, I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own native place. Indeed, I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah when the sky was closed for three and a half years and a severe famine spread over the entire land. It was to none of these that Elijah was sent, but only to a widow in Zarephath in the land of Sidon. Again, there were many lepers in Israel during the time of Elisha the prophet; yet not one of them was cleansed, but only Naaman the Syrian." When the people in the synagogue heard this, they were all filled with fury. They rose up, drove him out of the town, and led him to the brow of the hill on which their town had been built, to hurl him down headlong. But he passed through the midst of them and went away. Persecution of the Christian community is on the increase in the world's most populous country, India. In this Hindu-dominated nation, laws are often stacked against Christians and believers can pay a price for following Christ and sharing the Good News with others.Despite this opposition, host Michael Woolworth and his guest, Bobby (last name withheld for security purposes) affirm that the Gospel is spreading in India. And God is using Bible League programs, such as Church Planter Training, to equip pastors like Rakesh to face these challenges with courage and wisdom, and to grow their churches to His glory and honor. You'll also learn how to meaningfully support Christians facing persecution in India.Subscribe and invite others to listen with you. Length: 20:17.

September 1, 2025Today's Reading: Proverbs 25:2-10Daily Lectionary: 1 Kings 18:1-19; Ephesians 1:1-23“Do not reveal another's secret, lest he who hears you bring shame upon you, and your ill repute have no end.” (Proverbs 25:9b-10)In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. Some words were never meant to be said. Proverbs teaches that the secrets of your neighbor are not to be shared. A secret is anything kept from general awareness that would bring shame if it were revealed. Whether it's a secret crush, a regrettable past incident, or a fear few others know, no one likes to have their secrets made public.Sometimes you have to speak, though. If the secret is dangerous to that person or to others, or to someone's property, this should not stay secret. Because this is no longer about covering shame. This is about protecting a person. If a friend tells you he is suicidal, you need to tell people in authority who can help. The friend might not want you to. They might say they won't trust you again if you do tell. But you need to help that person, and there are good ways to work through this situation. One good way is to encourage the other person that they should tell their harmful secret to people who love them. Parents, teachers, pastors, police officers, God gave us these authorities for such reasons. But promise to be with your friend the whole way and support them as they reveal their secret. It may be hard for them, but it is easier if you or another friend is with them.Where someone could be harmed, a secret must be told, and in the best situation, by the person who has that secret himself. But where it's a matter of covering someone's shameful and regretted words, actions, or thoughts, then secrets should be kept hidden. In Eden, God covered Adam and Eve's shame by clothing them with animal skins. God did not speak about how shameful they were. Instead, God shed blood - the first blood shed in Scripture - as a way to cover the shame of our first parents. Jesus likewise covers shame by His blood. Romans 10:11 says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” So Jesus takes our shame away as the pure Gospel that faith clings to is preached. The Lord's Supper likewise applies Jesus' blood on you. And shame is covered and removed.Proverbs directs us to speak like God. Since God does not uncover shame, let us not uncover our neighbor's shame. Let us speak the truth in love, having love so that our neighbor's personal shame is not revealed. In this way, we treat our neighbor the way that God has treated us.In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.Help us that we Thy saving Word In faithful hearts may treasure; Let e'er that Bread of Life afford New grace in richest measure. O make us die to every sin, Each day create new life within, That fruits of faith may flourish. (LSB 693:2)Rev. Matthew presents Jesus Christ as the Jesus as the Mashiach Nagid, the Messiah the King, the Lion of the tribe of Judah. It was written by a Jew, to Jews, about a Jew. This book of the Bible uses more Old Testament quotes than any other. The Gospel of Matthew emphasizes the saying of Jesus, including ten parables not found in any other Gospel. After first establishing the royal genealogy, he then goes on to focus on the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecies. Matthew uses the term "fulfilled" 82 times! Many scholars now believe that the Gospel was written before Paul's first imprisonment of 57-60 A.D., and that virtually all of the New Testament books were written before Jerusalem's destruction.
