Borderlands is shaping up to be one of the absolute WORST movies ever made, and was sitting at 0% on Rotten Tomatoes until Grace Randolph's lone positive review. It's now at 3% and projected to make between $13-18 million opening weekend when it needs $200 million to break even. We're cracking open our brief excursion into 2020 with one of the last movies to get a theatrical run before COVID shut everything down. Women finally got their own Deadpool starring and produced by mega-star of the moment Margot Robbie. Against her better critical judgement, Nicole enjoyed this one for the incredibly flawed and messy thing that it is because women can have a junk food treat sometimes. Cole and Stu basically hated it. To help us break down whether or not women have the right to be annoying, we're joined by returning guest and fellow Robbie Quinn enjoyer Fabiola Liaño (@fabiola_liano) of It's Giving Camp to discuss the pop cultural figure of Harley Quinn, Grace Randolph spreading misinformation, the inherent appeal of unruly women to female audiences, and how this movie botches adapting the Birds of Prey comic series and its associated characters into a terminally pop feminist narrative about emancipation and wearing cute outfits or something. Somehow we managed to discuss this movie for slightly longer than Furiosa, and all without yelling at each other because we're friends first and foremost. How was your 2022? Here's mine in a nutshell. Emotions and relationships. Getting to travel twice with family was the highlight of the year. First, traveling to my mother's birth country and staying in a resort with my mother, sister, and niece were fantastic. Then, going to Las Vegas with my mother, sister, and older brother was beautiful and has created memories I won't forget. I'm still not the brother/son/uncle/nephew who calls and looks for family regularly-same goes for friends. Often I'm busy in my world. Some days I'm okay with that; others, I'm not. Frustrations at times with co-workers and my living situation came about. As a result, I've thought of changing my job and apartment. But I'm usually comfortable where I'm currently and not dissatisfied. Of course, there's pressure to be more and do more, but I haven't reached the breaking point yet, and I'm having a fun time in my life. Travel. I was fortunate enough to have traveled four times. First, a day trip to Philadelphia for an All Elite Wrestling show in April. Wynwood, Miami, Florida, in May, attending two dancehall parties. Then in June to the Dominican Republic with family to celebrate my niece's high school graduation. Finally Las Vegas in September again with family to celebrate my birthday. Content creation and publishing. I've released 30 podcast episodes this year and posted 67 pieces of content on YouTube and 66 on Instagram. Forty-eight posts on the blog and 32 on Tik Tok. I also regularly posted on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook stories. Less than during the pandemic(as I had more time at home). Maybe I overly relied on reviews, as there were 10 of those kinds of posts. Primarily movies and a T.V. show. Event videos on the podcast feed were new such as B.R.T. and the Star Wars Exhibit. So were favorite quotes from a book instead of the 'biggest takeaways' from the past. An excellent way to post content before finishing an entire book. Also, two hand-drawn story strips were new as well. I also changed the name of the podcast and blog from 'Improve and Have Fun' to 'Paul Has Fun,' moving away from self-help and talking about whatever—genuinely becoming a self-expression podcast/vlog/channel. But, again, re-affirming that I would do this whether I got paid or not. Sex workers and porn. There were 31 occasions where I'd seen a sex worker in 2022. Money spent doing so averaged $7905.00; this included purchasing porn as well. I also masturbated to porn 81 times. June was the month I did so the most (11 times), with most other months averaging seven. There were six sex workers I'd see multiple times, along with new ones. There were two terrible occasions; I left without finishing and paying what was agreed. The rest of the prostitutes were good-to-great. I still feel this is cheaper than having a girlfriend, a wife, dealing with a divorce, paying child support, or having children. All these numbers are up from 2021. Prep was the prescription I used most this year. I also started using erection pills, and they did the job. PMO'ing(Porn Masturbation Orgasm) all these years, my erection went soft while doing the act. There was a point I was getting pain around my left lower back area. I thought it was prep. But it was a combination of a Vitamin D supplement of 5000 I.U. and prep. Once I cut the Vitamin D, the pain stopped. I remember hearing Dr. John McDougall talking about the dangers of taking Vitamin D supplements of 1,000 I.U.s or more. Prostitution has been and will always be around. If there is a desire and funds for the transaction, I can have it whenever. Even with the variety, this gets old after a while. Later in 2022, I started alternating between getting a legit massage one week and seeing a sex worker the other to break the monotony and save a little money. Diet and physical. I have maintained a vegan and gluten-free diet in recent years. Mostly out of fear of heart disease. When I indulged in animal foods, I would beat myself up, which would cause me to slip into bad habits such as PMO and overeating. The fear of heart disease came from my dad having several heart attacks and a stroke at the end of his life. In 2022, I discovered Dr. Natasha Campbell-Mcbride's book 'Put Your Heart in Your Mouth.' These points piqued my interest: A high cholesterol count(in a blood test)is okay. It can mean that your body is fighting an infection and, in doing so, producing more cholesterol. Eating organ meats and drinking bone broth is incredibly healthy. A fatty diet helps with cravings and deters criminal activity. Homemade everyday products, like deodorants containing aluminum and fluoride toothpaste, genuinely hurt us. In addition, detergents and fabric softeners contain hazardous chemicals which aren't good for our health. This outlook changed my eating habits and the use of these products. Since reading this book, I have made my own mouthwash and detergent. In addition, for years, I've used aluminum-free deodorant and fluoride-free toothpaste. Body wash and dishwashing soap I use are free of parabens and phthalates. I started regularly eating meat, cheese, butter, and eggs. The weakness I would occasionally feel in my joints went away. My eating window was reduced from several hours to less than two. The downside to this diet is weight gain. During my strict vegan days, I weight between 137-143 lbs. Now it's between 149-153 lbs. Because of the weight gain, I've gone back and forth between the animal and vegan diets. Throughout the year, I've maintained going to the gym regularly, fasting 16-24 hours between meals daily, swimming and dancing weekly. At the tail end of the year, I started running a few days of the week for 10 minutes at a time as part of my morning routine. I also feel more confident in my dancing as learning steps is becoming less complicated and more enjoyable. Significant influences. In 2022, I discovered anti-woke content creators. The road was previously paved by listening to Alex Jones for years and finding the red pill/MGTOW movement later. Youtubers Nerdrotic and Geeks and Gamers, I enjoy their content and contrarian view of popular entertainment. Sometimes they complain about everything, but I'm glad for the dissenting point of view. Their ideas inspired me and my content. Coach Greg Adams, Grace Randolph, and John Campea were influences as well. This year I started reading Robin Sharma's book 'The Everyday Hero Manifesto,' and it helped me be more forgiving to myself. I also started listening to more self-help podcasts after taking an extended break, and it has reinforced in me that I am rich(not monetarily) in life and have an excellent existence. Also, what people present on social media is not 100% real, and I shouldn't compare myself. Finally, the people/celebrities we look up to are gifted, but very much like us-they are going through similar hurts, pains, and struggles. Big Lessons from 2022. The 'Die with Zero' concept. In July, James Altucher published a podcast where he interviewed author Bill Perkins about his book 'Die With Zero.' Mr. Perkins talks about the memories/great times with friends and family as the thing we take to our deathbeds, not our possessions. Also, how we spend so much of our lives accumulating and in the latter half giving it away. I remember going to work and telling co-workers about these ideas. I have yet to read the book, but I intend to. Improving my Spanish. Beginning in 2021, I decided to improve the primary language I grew up with, Spanish. First, I would read the local flyers in Espanol. Then, in 2022 I read my first book in my parents' language, the 'Four Agreements.' After that, I started reading Ray Dalio's 'Principles' and still going through it. My morning routine gives me discipline. So let me develop a night routine. One of my favorite books from the last few years was Robin Sharma's '5 AM Club.' Many other self-help podcasts I listened to discuss a morning routine and how it can make your day successful(by your standards). Hence, I developed my morning routine: prayer, meditation, yoga, daily affirmations, and jumping on a rebounder, which takes about 35 minutes. It puts me in an excellent mood for the day. But I've never had a night routine. One of the evening habits I'm developing is simply going to bed earlier, which helps me make better decisions during the day and grows my confidence. My continuing struggles. A consistent diet that keeps me healthy and strong. Less watching and masturbating to porn. Seeing fewer sex workers. A night routine as good as my morning routine. Invest more money and start building something for retirement. Make new younger friends while keeping my older friends. Communicate/visit more with family. Thoughts? Comments? These are my favorite movies and TV show from June-December 2022. June Insidious 1 & 2 (Amazon & Netflix) I'd never seen the Insidious movies. However, my younger brother watched them and told me they were creepy(which piqued my interest). In June, the first part was available on Prime Video, and the sequel and third films were on Netflix. I binged all three, but I preferred the first two as they wrapped up the Lambert family storyline. Black Phone (movies) The next Blumhouse movie on this list. The movie pundits I follow talked about this Black Phone's great word of mouth from early screenings. Saw this in theaters and was amazed at Ethan Hawke's villainous performance. His 2nd turn as a bad guy in 2022(first in Moon Knight on Disney+ months earlier, but much better here). Umbrella Academy S3 (Netflix) I like the Umbrella Academy and its different take on the superhero genre. The protagonist dysfunctional family consists of odd but likable characters, all with their own agendas, coming together to save the world from destruction. I've rewatched the footloose scene at the beginning of this season multiple times on Tik Tok. July Gray Man (Netflix) An action-packed thriller which is also one of the most expensive movies Netflix has produced. Gray Man is a bombastic summer-style movie usually reserved for theaters which I, like everyone else, enjoyed at home. At least tune in for Chris Evan's fantastic mustache. Paper Girls (Amazon) I read the first volume of this comic years ago and loved it. So when this adaptation showed up on Prime Video, I had to watch it. It wasn't perfect and downright ridiculous at times, but a fun sci-fi ride. Too bad Paper Girls was canceled after one season. I still want to read the entire comic run. Old Man S1 (Hulu) Senior citizen Jeff Bridges is a war criminal/John Wick-type soldier in hiding. When he's discovered and goes on the run, Dan Chase(Jeff Bridges)is not a man you want to cross paths with. John Lithgow is also in this series; his scenes are incredible. Unfortunately, halfway through the filming of season one, the pandemic happened, and Jeff Bridges had (real-life)health issues. The show was initially supposed to be ten episodes but shortened to seven. However, the finale was satisfying. Hopefully, Mr. Bridges will regain his health, and we can get a 2nd season of this excellent show. The Boys S3 (Amazon) The Boys is the show I recommend to anyone who wants to watch the current, best TV program in the superhero genre. Placing in Nielsen's top 15 original streaming programs of 2022, this Prime Video exclusive was seen more than any Marvel or DC TV show. Anthony Starr's performance as Homelander and how his story continues to unfold is tremendous-highly recommended. Stranger Things 4 pt 2 (Netflix) Stranger Things 4 was the summer event for me. Another show I ate up and relished. August Light & Magic documentary (Disney+) In August, I watched two documentaries discussing content from my youth. First, Light & Magic spoke about the formation of the ILM studio and its creation of beloved film series such as Star Wars and Jurassic Park. In addition, it delves into stop-motion photography which motivates me to make my own action-figure stories which I'm currently doing. Milestone Media documentary (HBO) Milestone Generations was the second documentary. The peak of my comic fandom(and for many) was the early 90s. This film chronicled a collection of black creators establishing their own company and publishing comics with their homegrown black superheroes. I never bought Milestone comics, but watching this doc and discovering the modern inner-city stories told, is up my alley. Fascinating documentary. Sandman S1 (Netflix) I halfway read the first volume of Vertigo's critically acclaimed Sandman comic run during the early 2000s, but it didn't connect with me. Fast forward to July 2022, the TV series was announced to premiere on Netflix in August. When the show debuted, I listened to comic book aficionado Robert Meyer Burnett's quick review on John Campea's podcast, and he loved it. He said some shots were identical from the comic book panels to the TV screen, which made me curious. My favorite scene is the battle between Dream(the Sandman)and Lucifer. Thirteen Lives (Amazon) A dramatization of the true story of 13 people who got stuck in a cave in Thailand and the rescue mission which followed. When this movie came on Prime video, two documentaries on Netflix and Disney+ premiered discussing the same event. Thirteen Lives was riveting, and I was surprised this wasn't in theaters. September Cobra Kai S5 (Netflix) Cobra Kai is fun, and I will continue to watch as long as the same creative team and cast stay in place. This past season, Terry Silver and his Cobra Kai students were great villains with shades of gray. The upcoming season six was announced and said to be the last. All good things must end, and that doesn't disappoint me when you go out on top, which hopefully Cobra Kai will. Prey (Hulu) A Predator story done right. Prey shows how one can take an established sci-fi horror franchise and make it simple yet effective. A similar formula might work for another iconic movie villain-the Terminator. Kisstory (Hulu) One of my earliest childhood memories is from Kiss' Phantom of the Park movie, where the band stands next to a wooden roller coaster. I've never been a big Kiss fan but watching them on season 8 of American Idol(2009), Adam Lambert performing alongside the rock legends in the finale, brought back old memories. Kisstory is a 'Behind The Music' type documentary narrated by Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons. A story that educated me on the group's formation, the tours, and the numerous hits they've had over the years. An engrossing four-hour doc which I only put down in-between parts because I had to go to bed. Elvis (HBO Max) I saw this in theaters in March but was tired and fell asleep various times. However, after rewatching Elvis at home, it quickly became one of my favorite films of 2022. The combination of Austin Butler's performance and Baz Luhrmann's direction was an experience I'll rewatch years later. I regularly listen to Austin Butler's rendition of the 'Vegas Rehearsal/That's All Right' song from the soundtrack. Everything Everywhere All at Once (PPV) I'd heard movie critics rave about this movie around the beginning of the year. By September, the film still had yet to come to a streaming service, so I bought it on pay-per-view. Adventure, sci-fi, comedy, drama. I found myself cheering and crying at different points while watching this movie. Another favorite from 2022. Barbarian (movies) I watched this and 'Smile' a few weeks apart. Barbarian is the superior of the two. One of the several small budgets horror films released in 2022 which scored big profits. Highly enjoyable. Even though Barbarian was a better movie than 'Smile,' the latter gave me trouble sleeping. October Werewolf by Night (Disney+) This was a surprise, and I'd like to see the MCU do more. A 'special presentation' introducing a group of characters or revisiting established ones like the 'Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.' The Werewolf by Night himself gave me Wolverine vibes. House of the Dragon (HBO Max) I'm late to the party regarding Game of Thrones—digging into the whole HBO series, like many others during the pandemic. House of the Dragon fills the Targaeryan backstory and doesn't disappoint. I also enjoyed the focus on fewer characters and seeing them grow over time. Green Lantern: Beware My Power (HBO Max) I found this while browsing the DC section on HBO Max. DC, hands down, has excellent animated movies with adult overtones. A space adventure that delves deeper into Green Lantern John Stewart and Adam Strange, whom I haven't heard about in a while. November See S3 (Apple TV+) To me, Jason Momoa's best work is his DCEU Aquaman appearances, and See on Apple TV+. I loved the first two seasons; this 3rd and final chapter was excellent. Watching this post-apocalyptic world where most of the population is blind and living within tribes in the wilderness was intriguing. I recommend See if you're looking for a great, complete sci-fi/action show. Spirited (Apple TV+) It was November, the holidays were around the corner, and there was a giant billboard for Spirited, displaying Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds, near the Port Authority bus terminal in Times Square. I thought, these two actors have made me laugh plenty before, so let's check this out. This Apple TV+ exclusive was delightful and had a different spin on the Scrooge story. A heartwarming musical, which I didn't mind. Andor S1 (Disney+) Andor beats any live-action Star Wars TV currently on Disney+. It started slow, but the intrigue and story build as we see the forming of the Rebellion against the Empire. The prison episodes with Andy Serkis were tremendous. The English (Amazon) Another great Amazon Prime Video show that no one seems to talk about. A stoic and violent western starring Emily Blunt. The English put its hooks into me from the first episode. Rafe Spall is also a great villain who you love to hate. Excellent and gorgeous-looking show. December Pistol (Hulu) I'm entertained by these Hulu dramas based on actual events. Dopesick with Micheal Keaton was sad yet amazing. The Dropout with Amanda Seyfried was eye-opening. Tommy & Pamela was amusing. Finally, Pistol, based on the beginnings of the Sex Pistols band and the punk scene in the UK, was interesting, informative, and plays to making your dreams come true even if you don't know how to play the guitar. White Lotus S2 (HBO Max) I watched the first season based on movie critic Grace Randolph's recommendation and found it awkward, funny, and intelligent with a murder mystery thrown in. As soon as the first episode ended for season 2, I was there every following Sunday to gobble up the next installment. The White Lotus season 2 has a dark comedic charm, and I love the soundtrack by Cristobal Tapia de Veer with all the weird chanting. Avatar: Way of Water (movies) As I mentioned, Stranger Things season 4 was an event for me. Avatar 2 was as well. It was long-winded at parts, especially the sections dealing with the whales, but great drama, action, and peak science fiction. Being transported to Pandora again didn't disappoint. Finally, favorites of 2022 Overall(the media below did not have to be released in 2022 to be included). Games (I had a blast playing these games and completed them)- Halo Infinite (2021) (Xbox-Game Pass) Wolfenstein: The New Order (2014) (Xbox-Game Pass) The Gunk (2021) (Xbox-Game Pass) Comics The Woods(the entire series) (published 2014-2017) (Boom! Studios) Wolverine: Enemy of the State (published 2005) (Marvel) TV Yellowstone S1-S4 (Peacock) Reacher S1 (Prime Video) Peacemaker S1 (HBO Max) The White Lotus S1 & S2 (HBO Max) As We See It S1 (Prime Video) See S3 (final season) (Apple TV+) Ozark (final season) (Netflix) Strangers Things 4 parts 1 & 2 (Netflix) House of the Dragon S1 (HBO Max) The Boys S3 (Prime Video) The Last Kingdom S5 (Netflix) Movies Elvis Everything Everywhere All At Once Top Gun Maverick Streaming Movies Thirteen Lives (Prime Video) Gray Man (Netflix) Animated Movies: Turning Red (Disney+) Green Lantern: Beware My Power (HBO Max) Legend of Vox Machina (Prime Video) Documentaries: Light & Magic (Disney+) Kisstory (Hulu) Thoughts? This week on Priority One --- We trek out Star Trek: First Contact with director and star Jonathan Frakes, Bryan Fuller's Mirror Universe, Acquisition Rumors, and Legos! In Star Trek Gaming, Star Trek Online reveals the 2020 Summer Event Ship winner, celebrates the “Year of Klingon,” and helps with Zoom meeting fatigue. Of course, as always, before we wrap up the show, we'll open hailing frequencies for your incoming messages Let us know on social media like Facebook, Twitter, or by visiting our website! This Weeks Community Questions Are: CQ: What do you think of Bryan Fuller's explanation of the Mirror Universe? CQ: Who would you rather take over ViacomCBS? Amazon? Netflix? Apple? AND CQ: What are your thoughts on the KDF revamp coming to Star Trek Online? What do you hope to see? TREK IT OUT by Jake Morgan Frakes Watches “First Contact” With IGN We're leading with Jonathan Frakes again. We'd apologize if we thought it was necessary, but it's not. The man is a treasure. So what did the actor, director, and all-around entertaining Frakes do this time? He did a LIVE watch of “Star Trek: First Contact” with IGN, and he did not disappoint. Frakes joined IGN's “Watch From Home Theater” to stream the live-chat of the 1996 classic, and as usual, had some interesting insight and entertaining takes on the film. In regards to the rumor that Special Effects house Industrial Lights and Magic wanted to add the Millenium Falcon into the film, Frakes replied ”I like it and it's a rumor I will continue to spread.” Frakes also credited Ron Moore, Rick Berman and Brannon Braga's script for the movies success, sighting the comedic interludes ”And THAT is one of the keys to the success of this film, is those comic beats are peppered in, they're momentary, and then we restart the engine. I think that's one of the real tricks to Ron and Brannon's script that's not always heralded as important and yet vital in an action-adventure movie.” But Jonathan Frakes answered the real question that's been plaguing Star Trek fans for years - what's with the Riker-Chair-Maneuver? ”That started in 10-forward because the backs of the chairs in 10-forward were so low. It was easy. And then I thought ‘this is a really hot dog, EXPLETIVE thing to do, no one is going to let me do this.' And then nobody stopped me. It's such a cocky, unattractive, bad cowboy move” Bryan Fuller's Take on Mirror Universe It's been a long road, getting from there to here. All the way back in 2016, when we could go outside and give hugs to people, seasoned Star Trek writer Bryan Fuller was given the proverbial keys to the castle - he was put in charge of bringing Star Trek back to TV. After his departure in 2017, we learned a few things about his now-defunct vision, including the pitch that the series be an anthology. Fast Forward to this week, and we learn a bit more about Fuller's unfulfilled plans. Sitting down with Robert Burnett for his youtube show Robservations, Fuller shed light on his vision of the darker side of trek, more specifically the Mirror Universe. ”The thing that really fascinated me in sitting down and crafting the story for Discovery was just the human condition. And I thought that there are elements in the Mirror Universe that we have seen that have sort of boiled to the broadest ends of the spectrum and everything felt really binary. And what I really wanted to do in setting out is looking at the minutiae of simple decisions that have a cascade effect on our lives. So, it's not about gold lamé sashes and goatees versus no sash and clean-shaven. It is more about, like, we are at forks in the road every moment of our lives and we either go left or right.” Fuller elaborated, saying ”It wasn't necessarily the Mirror Universe we know from all of the other series. It was something that was closer to our timeline and experience, so you can still recognize the human being and go, ‘What did I do? How did that seem like a good decision for me in that moment and how do I continue with my life forward?' And everything was a sort of an extrapolation out on that. So, there were things that I wanted the Mirror Universe to function in a narrative exploration of like ‘Oh EXPLETIVE, if I just hadn't done that one thing, everything would be better,' as opposed to, ‘I don't recognize that person, I don't know who that person is, because they are a diametric opposite of who I am.” ViacomCBS For Sale? This next story requires Nancy Crater, M-113 creature levels of salt - a pinch won't do - so get ready for some mottling. Could Star Trek, and the newly re-integrated ViacomCBS, be on the market? Film Critic, Comic Book author, and Youtuber Grace Randolph thinks she may have the answers. In a tweet dated May 1st, Randolph said ”Okay here's some Friday tea for you. As we've been hearing, Apple MIGHT buy Disney - But also Netflix MIGHT buy Viacom (CBS / Paramount, etc). Super rumor stage, but that's what's being sipped in Hollywood right now...” Rumors of Apple purchasing Disney have been floating around for a couple of weeks now, though Nasdaq.com speculates the acquisition is unlikely. But what about Netflix purchasing ViacomCBS? Rumor site Boundingintocomics linked an article to financial website Seeking Alpha, which cited ViacomCBS as a “Prime Takeover Target”. Further, Grace Randolph -the tweeter from earlier in the story - posits on her youtube program, “Beyond The Trailer” that the acquisition would give Netflix access to ViacomCBS' library and franchises and ”This would make Netflix a Movie Studio Proper, where they could make their prestige films, and they would be Netflix OWNED, but they would not be Netflix branded”. In short, Netflix could release Paramount movies in theaters without upsetting Netflix subscribers. Some naysayers point to the obvious fact that Netflix is currently running a substantial debt, and could not float the estimated 5 BILLION dollar acquisition cost. But what about another streaming service, one owned by a billionaire trekkie with a walk-on part in “Star Trek: Beyond” - the Jeff Bezos lead Amazon Prime? Lego Star Trek Speaking of fun. Who doesn't like Legos? The Danish building block toy has inspired, entertained, and enlightened the lives of people across the globe for nearly forty years. And despite the fact that Star Trek has never been included in the Lego block-world, it doesn't mean fans can't bring it in themselves. That's exactly what Reddit user M-2-M did, using Lego's Free Digital Designer. Starting 3 weeks ago, M-2-M has created the cast of The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager, as well as sets from the first season of TNG in chronological order - starting with “Encounter at Farpoint” and currently ending at “Heart of Glory”. These are hugely fun, intricate, and creative and we recommend you follow the link to have a look at them all! Star Trek Online and Gaming News by Shane Hoover 2020 Summer Event Ship Contest Winner Just under 20,000 players voted in Star Trek Online's contest to choose the next Risian Summer Event ship, and the results of the voting have now been announced. In a pair of posts on May 1st, the official STO Twitter account declared Nick Dugid's design as the winner, taking nearly 38% of votes. The senior environment artist's ship design will now be fully developed by concept artist Hector Ortiz and handed over to the dev teams to realize the ship for 2020's Summer Event on Risa. Congratulations to Nick Duguid, and also to the other three game devs who contributed to the contest. Christian Griffith's design came in a close second with 32% of votes, while Jesse Heinig and Mike Fatum's designs took in 16% and 13% of votes respectively. If Nick's design wasn't your personal favorite, perhaps you'll find some solace in another STO account tweet declaring “You never know where these other designs might end up.” Welcome To The Year of Klingon We recently shared Thomas Marrone's surprise reveal of an updated Klingon Bird of Prey model, and now Cryptic have revealed that this year holds much more excitement for Klingon loving players. In fact, 2020 has been dubbed by the game as “The Year of Klingon”. A game news blog dated April 29th announced a new major, multipart Klingon focused storyline set in the game's current timeline of 2411. The blog acknowledged that the game's current Klingon arc is both well loved by players and at the same time lacking many recent technical improvements. Cryptic said, “we're spending time and resources to give these pieces of content visual and gameplay facelifts. Over the next twelve months (maybe more), you'll see new Klingon character models for some of our classic characters like J'Mpok, updated skins for the classic Klingon ships like the Bird of Prey, new environments and cutscenes to refresh this old but beloved content.” Like the recent Star Trek Discovery content releases, The Year of Klingon will be released in installments. To communicate their efforts and generate excitement over this time, there will be regular spotlights on the ongoing development. The first, tagged #StovokorSaturdays, will reveal pieces of updated content weekly on game social media accounts. One #StovokorSaturday has already gone live, providing a brief video of updated Klingon character textures like hairstyles and skin complexions. Other outlets to come are artist streams on the official Twitch account and weekly team interviews on the Ten Forward community stream. That brings us to our first community question for Star Trek Online: What are your thoughts on the KDF revamp coming to Star Trek Online? What do you hope to see? Join Your Meetings From The Bridge “Don't video call for the job you have, video call for the job you want.” So declared Ambassador Kael in another official blog post this week, where he shared 16 Zoom meeting backgrounds created from locations within the game. The backgrounds were all created and provided by player Primar13. The images include a wide selection of ship bridges, plus important locations like Starfleet Academy and the Klingon High Council chambers. dealing with here with our good friends in Gotham that US he is justified in his actions from his perspective but then again you're only getting his perspective he seeing the world you know and I I I do wonder because one of the things I've heard about this which is this idea that they in honor of the big famous film coming out or is out with Oh is it is it joe aide that stories unreliable narrators have been done a lot And I do think that things are never quite what they seem but then at the same time when you have a film with an unreliable narrator they also could be what they seem and that's you know it he wants and that does not necessarily mean it is the world that is yes you're yes I thought I mean I've seen spoiler free mostly because I haven't seen it yet even though I did watch some spoiler reviews of it from some there's no Bella leash that he needs to do this but as the story progresses you see that you know what that is really his motivation that this idea of saving the universe well certainly yes he wants to mm-hmm encapsulates I feel is from what from what I understand is this jokers perspective on things meaning that you know make the make the joker a nice guy we're part of you feels you know it's sort of like Dana's sort of trusted a media sources and I am I I'm intrigued I'm intrigued by the concept I mean there is an argument to be made I'm that's been out there I wonder if that might be a part of it as well not so much because you know when you say oh you know other films are violent sort of like the notes in in that first Infiniti war where you know he's got this 'cause this noble you know the -pletely spoiler spoiler filled review on Cape Lunatics episode one twenty five for the spoilers up here we're going to try and keep it the joker and when you want to tell a story that is trying to tell the jokers perspective we know we know who he becomes it is where the anger and frustration comes no what we're what this what does Wean Joaquin King Walking Phoenix Joke Phoenix with those who remember the I'm trying not to spoil anything here but yes you definitely I do see the you see everything through the jokers is through his and the better person it doesn't go well you might have met as you might have heard spoilers for World War Two heinous evil and he is a noble cause to commit his active heinous evil and when we look at the controversy about this Oh that not all of his victims are deserving in fact we know that most of his victims are really just random innocent bystander PHOENIX yeah and who out called the joker the will in the house wrap which will be covering ways any sympathy you might wanna give him in the short term you know if we give jokers sympathy in the short term what does yeah and that's the thing is the collateral damage done is that will be done by the joker far take this action which may result same the universe in truth he just needs to he wants to commit this act where I can't remember if it's the blonde or the Brunette but this guy gets into a fight before thanos hit the movies this is a more well known quantity than Thanos I mean we've seen the joker at how many rations live action animal Oh that it's not a good relationship you know and this this is the thing is people know that recognize that all of his pain comes from a place he still hit with we know who the joker is we you know yeah it makes choices that in the end no matter how sympathetic you might feel for him number to help put down you might but the minute you recognize but this is Lex luthor you've got to deal with the back that who is he going to become that what is the overarching story us you know embrace this idea and I can see how you can sort of embrace a character as an icon why is this one being singled out and I think the reason why is because you know it's Santos you know yeah it's an even choice to be a super bowl you know I'm a big fan of lex luther I think there's lots of stories you can tell about Lex luthor that make him almost that make them sympathetic it's yeah and there's there's a there's a film called Max which is about a young art student you know that's right yeah well you know and you know and that's the thing is I can see I can see how took named Adolf Hitler and this art dealer who's trying to work with him and you know tried to help him on of this exploration of this populist ideal but it's like the Guy Fawkes masks you know you can embrace this idea and that is the problem with any super bowl no matter how you WanNa break it down order how noble you WanNa make them they're making keeps getting into fights it's actually kind of picking these fights just so he can punch a guy out them feel big and strong does that say about where he goes from here you know because you know there was there's a great episode of sex in the city no he's not a hero of freedom or anything he is at the end of the day just a different kind of sociopath seeking to impose his and this guy knocks out the other guy and she so impressed with them but then as the story progresses to realize is this guy any information to it which you know has its own there's a lot of real life parallels with you know the way that the you know it's not a paradise living under the joker and you can make the argument that Gotham isn't a paradise at all but you know that's that's a Guy Fawkes but you actually look at who guy fawkes is and he's the guy who is trying to parliament so that he could reinstate the papacy in England in you trust me I have so many good friends who think about eating the rich I do not so some people will be in the phone and they'll feel feel this anger because they going missing naught should we be glorifying the jokers actions because I think everyone can agree he he's he has mental issues well yeah yeah her and she's just so impressed by the chivalry that you know this guy you know tells us to back off when he doesn't you know the guy tries to throw a punch them and league he needs things up yeah well you know fancies himself to yeah yeah I mean like I said I'm trying who is it sales pitch asked the Guy Oh okay from what come to the show tonight reading the rich I I I do not think the rich would taste very good I see no reason to torment myself with that but I can see how people embrace that so in this movie you know he there's an argument that says that the second half of that film never actually happen and when you have a guy like the joker who as I always say as loft Lima because he has a very strict rules he follows that's that is the crux of but you know it's like it's like taxi driver and a intentionally said you know we're very inspired by taxi driver the choice so this is this is choice a and brilliantly produced written records and and one of the central themes of taxi driver is that blanking on the name of the Guy in taxi driver trevor the actions he takes that sort of propel him into a heroic light for some people and it's like it's like believe in his cause Abi or there's two basic possible is one is that the second half of this phone doesn't actually happen that what you see what you observe is you're going to see the joke that you know that there is a a social dynamic to this you know that there is a social movement around the joker in the jokers mind of what happens or the flip side to that this is just another origin that joke tells you know as as he says let's yes basically he goes into his own mind and he imagines himself in his case like this superhero not much for you but we're anybody but I mean what audience either I mean I think people understand it macinnis that will work nice to face Batman so we get kid Bruce Wayne in this I mean not for long that we do I wouldn't mind seeing that yeah I mean I certainly well you know I mean I wonder I wonder how that's going to play I wonder if this is really popular thing it's you know but I guess and this is where I get to this idea about the multiple choice ending isn't it an entirely isn't it posssibility that because the joker is obsessing with the wings in this and you know the richest family in Gotham is Easter eggs or the man who laughs Alka the man who laughs is this films that he had his interactions even though we know you know much Travis Dekel there's going to be points where we don't and is interacting with this child even if only a couple of times this is how key sees what happens how he saw what occurred you know while protecting this underage prostitute and then she falls in love with him and all this kind of stuff and the idea is is that there's a good possibility you know there are you know I I've told the story so many times you know I like I like different ones I like my pass to be I I liked this movie a lot better than I thought it was going to and I think they said it's like known separate thing but I wouldn't mind Joaquin Phoenix's joker verse like Rob Patents as Batman you know I think that you know and for what it's worth you know you can certainly argue that they've set up a a certain age dynamic goal is it couldn't remember was Bigler biddle Chevy's pickle played massively by Robert Deniro ancient comic books I mean the jokers more well-known than than US yeah and he is iconic although like all of the joker Harley memes that get torn apart that's a running theme throughout this whole movie starting at the very beginning it's like oh the city's getting worse cities getting worse than Nina the joker just I guess I get I don't want too much by the banks I really think everyone and this is my opinion I think everyone should go see this before you go see that film it's on Youtube with Spanish subtitles And like I said I really enjoyed the spoilers I've gotten and I'm looking forward to looking for Easter eggs because what are the Easter eggs I really wanNA look for just to do a little segue for this the joker really there is going to be this information about information in the that is going to call back to this because the outcry I couldn't hear the couldn't hear your your your and it was a real debate is whether or not they should make it a cocky and the main reason they didn't is because the prosthetic that Conrad by where isn't it he couldn't really talk very well so deniro's basically Johnny Carson Yeah Well Yeah I mean can you comedy you know it is very interesting trade choice from everything I've heard I I am fully expecting to enjoy this though I think you will my expectations were low like I said some tragedy in the end but for the most part it's actually a romantic it's a it's a romance it's the it's actually kind of be story of and Conrad Bike from I wanna Say Nineteen Twenty eight it might be earlier than that might be all the way back to nineteen twenty being with a man who so horribly disfigured likewise like thing the disfigurement actually brings him everybody knows that this is the origin of the look of the joke and fascinating about this is that it is now it's actually kind of this story of Ben Grimm he's a disfigured man who is in love with this line girl just feels he burden her some modicum of wealth and fame because he is touring as a clown with Ursus the philosopher and and their little bug homo most interesting the man who left is not a horror film you know it's gotTa a grotesquely ginning and there's certainly a silent film in the nineteen twenties although actually I think it must have been twenty eight said that this was right at the transition of talking of talking films is a lot of money if they're going to be like Oh hey you know we said this was a separate thing but would you come in our larger universe yeah well you know I mean I don't see any reason why not in nineteen twenty eight November Fourth Nineteen Twenty eight and I prefaced by saying this is a really great film King James The second of England and we'll pain the man who laughs father is sort of a rebel is such an aspect where there's a visual cue that artist represented that it's completely separate from what actually happens in the story Yes yes yes yes and I know what her her plotline is okay okay and that that I I don't want it nursing me enough does also look like the joker it's like a buffet he's just a real big lovable Doug Oh intel spoilers the very the very end where he when the actual villain of the piece who I'm trying to avoid spoilers with their because you know 'cause that again ties into the taxi say do you remember where we saw her before freak show not not nice work even if you can get it but how did you did you see did you see who else is in this movie is as he beats ah trying to avoid that spoiler would okay yes you do get we do get a baby wing I'm like two scenes I mean it's only a few minutes so he's not really intrinsic to the plot plotting do you brought all this on Sunday but you're I think you're I think you're GonNa love the narrative Oh I know I'm gonna I almost never don't like Philipson so it's it's interesting that he is a guy with the comedy ascetic although that's also very dark comedy comedy aesthetic I just wonder it's Nowhere with us she was Domino Deadpool Two oh dad that's that girl oh some no if the interaction that he shows happened actually have I so and I can't wait I can't wait to talk the big old cards that come up in English everyone should go see the could watch that phone before you watch the joke because even though I don't know what's GonNa happen and you know gets exiled but comes back because he's worried about his son and he finds out that they gave his son l. 00:19:41 - 00:25:06 actually was really fascinating that the actual director of the joker is actually he's other big work was the hang yeah to the the the CAMPACCIO 's who were this evil group of people who would basically by children disfigure them and then sell them BARF federal believe his name is and he's the he was the jester for Is I mean I see the headlines where he's like Oh you know woke woke cultures killing comedy and stuff you go into the go into the movie with that mind let me it's ridiculous because as people because you know what these people always point out is that Oh you know look you know in the seventies eighties comic books I mean you see everything evolves especially when you go decade or decades and decades stuff evolves well of course it does everything's going to evolve on Sunday if you think that like some of this is like him talking through the movie yeah you know what the fact of the matter is if you're not a good of course focus a wolf so it's it's so match but he's actually just as big a logo and you know thought the whole film good for her good for doing another superhero franchise he does a good job for what they give reality she does a good job in this food because there's always more to the story and or edit certain point people don't want to hear what you thought was funny thirty the thing it's not even that the joke wasn't necessarily funny in the nineteen forties if it's a joke from the nineteen forties but to joke from the seventies we've heard that oh you had Eddie Murphy and you had Mel Brooks you know these people and to which I always say if you think you can tell a joke as good as Mel Brooks because I think I I saw I saw the credits walking out I think not only did he directors I think he wrote it too so well I mean you know I mean that's and that's this is this Black Arthur flack is actually which is just sounds like a made up name by the way Oh yeah the wolf by the way which I which I thought was because he he looks like a dog but he's actually billed as homo the wall which is funny because Homo means man anybody could pay her name yet said a Nixon you say trump yeah I know I know it's its own soap circling aspect of it and I wonder if we're going to see something in in this film where we're going to see were made to feel like the joker like Arthur his last name ah that's what I'm saying he could definitely have talked this movie if you want you know it's it's you know this whole idea of you know will culture destroying Kombi go to Murphy you go right ahead but you 'cause you're not that you to every form of entertainment be a comedy being Louise bTV big call joke if you're not a good enough comedian to tell a racist joke then you're just not a good then you're not a comedian who should be telling racist jokes at you and I Cold they have to leave because we is not amused but yeah I do think that the man who laughs is a really great with the idea of there's the monster who is actually kind and good and then the actual monster with false styles and title is you know who is much more the spiritual inspiration for the joker rather than merely the physical represent the inspiration for the joker and soon in the comics to bits weird that they're mixing Harley Quinn at the birds of prey I'd rather see like a separate birds of prey thing and even like a Solo Harley Quinn movie rather than mixing the two birds of prey trailer death there's not a lot I wanNA talk about it does seem interesting you know her getting her little hyena has a lot of yellow in it and most notably I felt like the boat Kinda forms a yellow lantern. 00:25:07 - 00:39:22 I don't know what to make of that but it is yeah it's it's a little derivative but that's okay you know but I think we're meant to feel the sympathy for this guy much in the way that you felt sympathy for there's other stuff where it's like yes so you know this is where this leads but yeah but in the end will pain gets away dope six times all worth it's topical what has no meaning now well and but you know you can there's no such thing as humor are but yeah it is it is interesting but about like comedy getting back men who asks I think there's this dichotomy gentlemen welcome once again to super activity I'm your host the lesser effort and even Tristan liked it so there you go Endorsement from no less than one of the thing I did want to talk about was the two years ago exactly that's I was gonna say you stuff that was you know pe- comics retailer in the nineteen forties are going to see is going to go with the public today no and it's not even and for the for wilt painted NECE although interest in Europe and again this is sort of the the larger story that gets told him this is in the man who laughs is that it is this indictment of wealth culture and the one percent you know and arguably just you know the argument that you know like she doesn't need like she's got her canaries I just again it just seems weird that they're mixing hardly because then dollar well you know it's like Arthur Dent you know Arthur Dent and he called him Arthur Dent because a dentist something that happens to you overnight nor so that's an on the nose art you're the costume in like I think the one seen I saw canaries carrying a baseball bat and I was like she's like a martial artist she's Nice The one thing I thought was kind of weird and maybe this is me just reading way too much into it is a black canaries outfit yeah I think I think they wanted to give her you know this is one of the things Grace Randolph said about is that Harley Quinn really she is at her best do you realize the Guillotine because this is a this is a victor hugo a novel and he liked this is a prequel to Da His girlfriend Ursus they're sort of father figure and little little homo the wool I'll get saved and they sail away from England where they've been she's reacting to someone and someone else's reacting that you can't really just have Harley Quinn by herself yeah what I'd rather she I don't know why you give her the person prey though I'd rather see like a Harley Quinn with poison ivy and maybe a cap I think everyone would have liked to have seen Harlequin with poison ivy and I don't know why I don't think to start off with book that makes me Mattis and I know what book May Do Madison we'll get to that originator and you know that's show Biz it's a mere does like a lot of these see like series is coming in the Thanksgiving weekend yes well that should be fun you know I'm looking forward to that will not really they don't have these thinks universe announced when they're dropping they they still haven't announced that they're going to do it you know week the week like they've been doing everything else or drop it all at once but that Harley Quinn animated I like live action and even again this animated series it seems like they're going much more adult and again they're adding more stuff to their black label yeah well because you know I think I don't know if that's true because I think the villains only work because of the euros I mean I think maybe jokers going to be a pretty big film artsy that could be problematic for you know if there's much that you've got to sort of if if people can't get a handle on it I said I'm not expecting to hate it I'm expecting to really like it you know I'm hoping it'll be I'm hoping to live up the expectations I have every reason to think it should immortal hall Oh number twenty four s or late to call it the blasphemy the and they do you know it it opens nicely with this great payroll about the the essence of the universe that Gaylon which we see at the beginning of the book leaves it's coming say at least from my vantage point love or hate it you'll get it you'll be like okay I get what they were doing okay well that's that's that's a good song point and they're trying to to turn into the villain curved in Oh I think they really feel and people have said this that you know DC's villains are better than their here that's it makes sense so I don't know that that's that's our that's our hurling Quincy Oh speaking of Harlequin Zell it may not be honestly one of the could face it couldn't you dang artsy for for for for the crowd you know and the does wind up being aged heroes you know where you know the fantastic four and then you know the creation of a whole can you know the I don't mean that to say Oh people elected film I'm thinking no you made a film that people have a hard time processing because you don't have a consistent narrative banner but actually it's Mr Mortal and we see that banner is all emaciated in green and a monster kinda character but you know what I'm excited about comic books yeah so wrapping up the Fortran the fourteen story and basically taken over gamma base or shadow base and centuries ago which I don't know man I'm we're already reading the book that shows that no that that would happen in it so he kills you don't tell your story in a in a proper way and is entirely the password this is the kind of film that the more I think about the worst it'll up there I can hawk revelations what people don't know about revelation is that yes it is about the rise of the Anti Christ and you know the evil walking out of the film and things being legal but wait a minute what about this and really was that a good way to have that be hey you know there are some twists and turns but whatever export boy till Sunday spoke spoiler alert I think on Cape Saluda takes you and I are probably GonNa be middle the red I think Moyes said he already loves it and Ayaan from now at the end of the hall we get a little replay of the Gaylon galactic thing except now it's you weren't going to rise up and take over the world devil you're the devil you know and again how interesting Howard with the character who can defeat anybody income that he is worried about it and he's in that space outside of time watching as the actual heat death of the universe occurs and clearly not for the statement yeah I even killed Franklin Richards the supposed- you know the Chosen One You know I murdered him yeah but it's also about how the devil get smackdown hard like in in like one pair of at the end it's like no you weren't sh and what it is that you know when when Franklin is at the end of time and he's actually afraid of this that he doesn't know what's I she comes back in another universe comes back and you kind of his idea that basically Franklin puts her in all of his universe that she actors too that's like it seems like it's it seems like it seems now that last seen in the present when he's sitting in chairs that's supposed to you know be you know like oh I could see the maestro I think he's the maestro hope which is like they're all just Bruce Banner's a lot of the heroes reborn universe I'll yeah that's right yeah that that she didn't have a parallel earth and that she keeps undying but then after she it gets great how they really explorer and then here's the big reveal at the very end of it back who's back again oh come oh yeah he's got his alliance around you know they well unless you're Franklin Richard now but even he you know sometimes he loses his powers or read locks them out we saw it at something tale from the last month I was I enjoyed it I enjoyed it I I love for defective has the parallel actually future foundation number three I heard that it is ending which is bill disappointing because it is such a great book especially with the maker did you watch the trailer for that a while ago Yes yes I did yes knock will love for the kid for the for the young kids people I mean there is all kinds again speaking of Franklin Richards the basically Ricky Barnes is the one hero that Franklin created in she she sees the whatever that mortar being as she's tearing apart universes and you basically lives without that she's like all these thousands of lifetimes and then when of course when all of the universe is start collapsing you know adapts to because they know h stories only page long so now this is the one that made feel mad as they told him he should recycle his comic teams are treated the chance for that only put in the codes future foundation was very good We get the story of Ricky Barnes we find it's it's actually actually I think they wrote this expressing to make matt exact a Carleen make me angry wants real quick and then toss it in the in the trash actually I don't think there's actually was a an actual ad from the I know Yeah Lie Joel later whole back amongst the future so yeah I really like this book probably one of my favorite books this week anything cap even says the kid haired son I heard you're saving all his comic books but you know once you've read them they have no value not to you anyway of course you hear online quarterback is online yeah so that was cool oh that's that's awesome anything you WanNa talk about how did you WanNa talk about the one that made me mad let's marvel comics one thousand and one which you were looking something they'll do but yeah I mean it's it's cute it's it's delightful it was clearly meant to be Niskayuna takes about eight years before actually I hope you're cute you think you you're you're cute you think you'd be you'd be a exactly worthless worthless comic books in the nineteen hundred marvel telling us hey don't don't examine our comics too closely you know read it just read it exact same story but told in reverse order the first page of the Fayed is the exact same dialogue almost but knee reverse order and ACA comics for victory yes basically Cap American bucky driving around the World War Two hey we're doing a paper dry then it's like oh hey thirty some newspapers and it was clearly a you can tell that they're trying to make the points comics are worthless why would you save I'm basically what I did it's low it's models Ambi- but with the mushroom people would richards really be that stupid no I mean other well of course it will be called marvel to thousands or something just one thousand one marvel tales to this issue was good it was just basically like one page that angered yes oh yeah one shot and a lot of comedy I actually fell yeah honestly it's yeah it's it's it's it's it's a it's a reach and we see the obviously when you get infected than you know the with superhuman strength of calcium infection on the thing so I think they were just looking for in the do because it's October Halloween's come in DC once real quick Austin in the trash or recycling wanted us they want you to get rid of it so that you have to buy the trade yeah yeah what's your by twenty because kids were put although they were just not taking care of them they also would say well you know I've already read that book why do I need to do back then in the forties at this thing started could be worth anything ever yeah although you see the kids I'm going to have the largest count book collection in the World All crying yeah oh I wonder if they if they when they do a trade if they're gonNA package more will comics one thousand and one thousand one to get he's doing the deceased miniseries but is is this even I mean how long is this going to last four issues four recommended contagion Teijin exit was a big Ben Grimm story ah not excessively impressed by contagion look good you're you're supposed to understand the irony of all the statements but at the same time that's also why comics became valuable fantastic four number fifteen when divergent came out of the see the the the unparalleled ours are in other people now to Z. 00:39:23 - 00:41:13 The assume guy using the stretching powers and the shields even seems to like Crowe like Oh real comedy like much more I think than most of these books ever do and that I kind of got the feeling this is almost like a what the you know it's like you can't really get to in is the eighth superhumans on this other world and you know the prophecy of the coming of the four and Yada Yada Yada the connection to their origin GonNa be is like is that where the I mean it'd be one thing if they were like Oh yeah read it and then like give it to a friend okay I could buy that they're just like Oh yes you know books are four bucks for five bucks these days yeah well you know I'm easy to pander to I say I'd say four ninety nine book I'm not GonNa just recycle it wants to throw it away some of the best stories when you just have fun you know I liked that I liked that you know have marvel issue was good as refines it and then old man quilt open quote was a lot of fun. 00:41:13 - 00:42:43 Yeah you know we're Austin time now and it's just like oh how devil skipped if it was okay light wearing white will he ever get back it's like well he is tending right next to a time sled so you know what I was thinking because now Ayush next but
Happy Halloween, boys and ghouls! There's very little as haunting as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, a fact to which I can attest and an issue explored in Heroes in Crisis. The first issue was released September 26, at a time many were wrestling with the trauma of the Kavanaugh hearings. A lot of people were forced to relive their worst traumas during that awful incident, and it's a bigger issue than I think this or any other comic can properly address. However, I admire the heck out of Tom King for trying, and for sharing his own trauma and channeling it into his work. HiC #2 was released today, I'll give it a read and, in all likelihood, discuss it tomorrow. Original episode description, from September 27, 2018: I tried to distract myself from the depressing hearings of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh by taking up some of my listener's suggestions for comics and comic-inspired media, and - well, it was a bad day. Neither Tom King's Heroes in Crisis nor the trailer for Dark Phoenix did much to improve my mood - although Daredevil Season 3 looks awesome, and I look forward to seeing whether DD is in fact Born Again when it premieres on Netflix October 19. After "A Star is Born" you'd think Hollywood would cool it on movies about musicians but here comes the much awaited Queen biopic "Bohemian Rhapsody." So we got a hold of special guest Grace Randolph to see what she thinks. The film was labled a "troubled production" because its original director was fired during filming. Nonetheless, two members of Queen were executive producers on the film. Willit rock your world? Give a listen. Then Bill Bregoli tells us about "London Fields" another "troubled production" and Bill McCuddy has "Pick of the Litter." It's a heartwarming documentary about service dogs. And Neil has our DVD releases of the week. As Queen would say - it's "a killer."

It's no secret that Star Wars fans have been unhappy as of late. And based on actions from a very vocal and passionate portion of the fandom, it looks like Rian Johnson and Kathleen Kennedy's The Last Jedi is to blame. To show their displeasure, they are protesting any and all new Star Wars projects. They are also taking credit for the lackluster success of Solo: A Star Wars Story.Grace Randolph from the YouTube channel Beyond the Trailer is reporting that as a result of the displeased fandom, Disney CEO, Bob Iger had a secret meeting to discuss the possibility of firing Lucasfilm boss, Kathleen Kennedy. Whether or not these rumors are true remains to be seen; however, it's an interesting thought so this week, our panel discusses the topic. You've heard what we think, but what do you think? In this epic-length episode of Watch.Read.Listen. (the first in our Fantasy Month), we discuss Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings films, both in their own right and as adaptations of J.R.R. Tolkien's novel. This episode can be seen as the first of a two-parter on Jackson's adaptations of Tolkien's works as next week we will discuss The Hobbit films. What makes a good adaptation? What effects do the changes made have on the stories? In our This Week segment: David focused on rewatching The Lord of the Rings, although he did watch some of the DC animated movies, including Justice League: The Flash Paradox. Duane read Martian Comics#1-3 (check out the Martian Lit Kickstarter for the next issue, The Canals of Earth); listened to Alice Isn't Dead, the new podcast from the creators of Welcome to Night Vale; and watched Grace Randolph on Beyond the Trailer attempt to explain away the negativity around Batman v Superman. Both he and his wife watched Deadpool (read Duane's article "Deadpool v Batman v Superman") and The Path (new Hulu series with Aaron Paul and Hugh Dancy).
