22 years after 9/11, our host and 9/11 First Responder, Paul Rieckhoff reflects on where we are as a nation, how far we've come, what we've gained, and what we've lost. And–if after all these years–America is now forgetting about 9/11. He'll also dig into parallels with the January 6th attacks, new sentences handed down to key leaders of the Proud Boys, Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville's ongoing and terribly damaging blocks on the promotions of military leaders, how the Biden Administration is/isn't responding, the loss of Jimmy Buffett and the return of NFL football and school for kids. And more. And we replay some of our most unforgettable 9/11 conversations with 9/11 heroes and survivors Rob Serra, Richard Naviasky, Joseph Cammarata, Al Barry and Lila Nordstrom. 9/11 was a moment that changed everything for the entire world. And it's a moment that is engrained in the DNA of Independent Americans and Righteous Media. So at least here — we will never look away. We will never forget. Work to hit your number so you can retire early and avoid a deferred life. People wanting ordinary results won't understand your pursuit of extraordinary. Those relationships can open doors to future guests, opportunities, and new fans. Controversy creates buzz. Some creators intentionally post outrageous clickbait despite risks. But taking it too far can generate backlash. You have probably heard of sea monsters, ghost ships, and dangerous and ferocious sea storms. … But you might not have heard of them all happening in the same place. No, it's not the Bermuda Triangle, but the Dragon's Triangle off the coast of Japan. This Metaphysical podcast dived into the mysterious phenomena in the area, like Kublai Khan's impossible failure. They also looked into the strange disappearances, sunken ships, amazing legends, and war stories of the Dragon's Triangle. Plus with John Vivanco's remote viewing data and Rob Counts' investigative research, they had some mind blowing conversations about what's really going on in the Dragon's Triangle. Is it a coincidence that the Dragon's Triangle is in a place called the Devil's Sea? They say there are 12 “vile vortices” where nature and physics are thrown out of whack due to electromagnetic anomalies, so is the Dragon's Triangle really one of them? Some try to claim that the Dragon's Triangle is the antipode of the Bermuda Triangle (a.k.a. if you dug through the center of the earth starting at the Dragon's Triangle, you would come out in the Bermuda Triangle). While that claim was off the mark, what we found about other antipodes was astounding. Hear Rob's tale of the supernormal Japanese samurai Kono Michiari who held off an entire fleet. Discover the enormous, controversial Yonaguni Monument under the sea by Japan. Judge for yourself whether these massive rock formations with artificial-looking angles that lie beneath the waves are really the remnants of an ancient civilization. Question what would have happened if Kublai Khan's forces had succeeded in taking over Japan, and what “divine winds” had to do with his lack of success. 9/11 is the single most influential moment of the 21st century. It was terrible and tragic and it was a moment that will remain etched in our country's history forever. It was a moment that redefined the trajectory of the entire world and will continue to shape the future for decades to come. 9/11 was a moment that changed everything for the entire world. And it's a moment that is engrained in the DNA of Righteous Media. Host and founder Paul Rieckhoff (@PaulRieckhoff) was there at Ground Zero on 9/11. The Firefighters Podcast with Rob Serra host Rob Serra (@SerraRob) was there at Ground Zero on 9/11. They saw the horror first hand. They were there to witness it in person. The scale. The depth. The scope of it all. And while the rest of us watched in shock on TV, they were there, helping, scrambling through the wreckage trying to find survivors. Trying to find anything. It was as horrible as things can be and no one should ever have to endure what they saw that day. But we can never forget. And part of that never forgetting is the requirement we all have to not look away from the ugliness. To not look away from the horror. If we hope to truly honor the sacrifice of those we lost, and those we continue to lose, we can not ignore the horror. We must truly never forget. So at least here — at Independent Americans and all of the shows produced by Righteous Media — we will never look away. We will never forget. You might remember Robert Pekin (with his partner Emma-Kate Rose) from episode 28. Rob's the founder of Food Connect, the trailblazing social enterprise and legendary community food hub in Brisbane. Since then, plenty has happened at Food Connect. The $2m equity crowd-fund – an Australian first - was successful. And Gaala Watson, a Kungalu and Birri-Gubba Woman born and raised in Brisbane, came on board as Chair of the Food Connect Foundation. That convergence of people, skills and cultures is bringing about a revolutionary addition to their set up, thanks to a serendipitous chain of events deep and wide across Country. That included connections with local elders, the native grains off Bruce Pascoe's farm, a young farming couple in NSW who wondered if they could build the first Australian mill in who knows how long, and this podcast. Back in episode 28, Rob and Emma-Kate talked about being a ‘systems enterprise' more than a social enterprise – aiming to change the inter-related food, farming and economic systems, along with the cultural stories underpinning how we organise those systems. Now Food Connect is starting to flip capital from an ownership to a custodial model. This lands squarely in Gaala's wheelhouse – where social enterprise aligns with Aboriginal systems of governance. And where this particular enterprise aligns with an enduring vision stemming from her father. Moving to Maine in 1997 was supposed to be 18-year-old Robert Joyal's fresh start. But instead of becoming the football star he was in Texas, he found himself on the outside looking in, unable to carve a path in Gorham High School's social circles. When his rebellious behavior came to a head at home, it was agreed that he would move out while finishing his senior year. Another fresh start, and one where the family felt a sense of bittersweet hope. But that hope was short lived. That same night, before he even got a chance to unpack his car and sleep at his new apartment, Robert Joyal was stabbed to death in a Denny's parking lot in Portland, Maine. Rob Reiner joins Gentry Thomas Backstage this week to get "The Band" back together. They discuss Trump and Archie Bunker similarities, along with heading down memory lane with Reiner's commentary on some of the iconic movie scenes that have made him one of Hollywood's most accomplished directors. Listen to the podcast and hear the 73 year old Reiner recall the train and bridge scene from Stand By Me, When Harry Met Sally's restaurant orgasm scene with Meg Ryan, "You can't handle the truth" in the court room with Jack Nicolson in A Few Good Men and the final kiss from The Princess Bride. America fell in love with Rob Reiner when he played the character Meathead on All in the Family. The star of this 70s sitcom was Archie Bunker played by Carroll O'Connor. The character "Archie" was often described as a racist, sexiest, bigot, some of the same names you will hear people call our current President Donald Trump. Gentry Thomas asked Reiner if their were any similarities between the two? Hear Rob's response and his outlook on the future of movie making in this episode of Backstage with Gentry. The cast and director of classic rock mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap are reuniting for a virtual table read that will be moderated by Patton Oswalt. Released in 1984, the Rob Reiner (The Princess Bride) movie starred Christopher Guest (The Princess Bride), Michael McKean (Better Call Saul) and Harry Shearer (The Simpsons) as the hapless British heavy metal band, Spinal Tap. The table read will take place on October 14th, 2020 and will aim to raise money for the Philadelphia Democrats ahead of the November 3 General Election.
