Dr. Heather Lench is a professor in psychological and brain sciences at Texas A&M University. She believes there are ways to find happiness in a world that can seem chaotic and overwhelming. She says research on the topic shows one of the key things we can do is focus on what is in our control, and focus on activities that give us the greatest joy — things we do because we enjoy doing them — and spend more time on those activities. Dr Lench says research has shown that you don't have to spend time meditating quietly without distractions to find happiness. She says there are a lot of ways to engage in meaningful activities that create joy, including walking, painting, reading, running and playing sports.

After leaving N.W.A., Ice Cube went solo creating his new group Da Lench Mob with members J-Dee T-Bone and Shorty, all 3 appearing on Cubes first 2 solo albums. In 1992, Tha Mob released their own full length debut album titled Guerillas In Tha Mist, a play on the 1988 film by the same name. Ice Cube serves as executive producer in addition to contributing lyrics, as this album follows the formula Cube used on his previous albums - brash, socially-conscious lyrics over loud hardcore beats.
A musical ikonikus dalai, élő zenekari kísérettel, új dimenzióba emelik a történetet. A Sláger FM-en minden este 22 órakor a kultúráé a főszerep S. We are often told to ignore anger, to repress anger, that anger has no value in a polite society. Anger gets us in trouble. Anger removes our ability to think rationally. Anger is always bad all of the time and we should never, ever feel it. Or, at least, that's what we've been told. Some researchers wanted to test that theory, and turns out it might not be true. Dr. Heather Lench is a professor specializing in affective science, personality processes, and social & personality psychology. She recently led a team of researchers in publishing a paper that tells us what anyone who has ever washed the dishes after a fight knows: anger might make us more productive and better at problem solving. We might actually get more accomplished if we do it out of spite. This week, we cover the legendary debut album Amerikkka's Most Wanted, from West Coast rap artist - none other than Ice Cube. After leaving N.W.A., Cube teamed up with Public Enemy's production group The Bomb Squad, and fellow friend Sir Jinx, to make arguably the greatest debut hip-hop album ever. Dropped in 1990, Ice Cubes' story telling, hard chaotic beats, and gangsta yet conscious abilities put him on the map as a solo artist and proved he could stand on his own. https://instagram.com/str8_the_clippa?igshid=MzMyNGUyNmU2YQ%3D%3D&utm_source=qr https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100086006336425&mibextid=LQQJ4d https://www.tiktok.com/@brandonhetzel996?_t=8hrXzbIJzN0&_r=1

Fabacsovics Lili, Háy János, Kárpáti Barbara, Lenchés Márton, Szelle Dávid, Zalán Tibor A szerzőkkel és a színészekkel Tóth Ramóna Mirtill beszélget. Vajon miért érdekelte Petőfit a százhatvan évvel korábbi történelmi esemény? És ki volt gróf Antonio Caraffa? Nyilvánvaló a hasonlóság Antonio Caraffának és Haynaunak a magyar történelemben játszott szerepében, tehát magától értetődőnek tűnik, mi izgathatta Petőfit az eperjesi történetben, és miért éppen élete utolsó napjaiban foglalkoztatta e téma. Amikor 1849. július 3-án Pestről családjával Mezőberénybe, barátjához Orlai Petrich Somához érkezik, menekül. Egyrészt újólag kiábrándult a politikából, másrészt az ő neve is szerepelt a Haynau kézjegyével ellátott, a felforgató (értsd: forradalmi) eseményekben való részvétel miatt kiadott körözési listán. Átmeneti megnyugvást remélt Mezőberényben, ugyanakkor belekezd a drámájába. Az elkészült két jelenetben (melyek közül a második nincs is befejezve) szinte látnoki erővel idézi meg a magyarságra váró közeljövőt. A munkát barátja, Egressy Gábor látogatása szakítja félbe, akinek unszolására és társaságában július 18-án elindul Bem táborába, a halálba. Az esemény ismertető szövege idézet Nánay Istvántól. A Pannon Várszínház és a Kalligram Kiadó közös programja. A kötet bemutatását a Kortárs Magyar Dráma-díj támogatja. A beszélgetés a 2023-as tavaszi Margó Fesztiválon hangzott el.

Ocean's Balance, an award-winning innovator of edible seaweed products, announced today that it is expanding its product line with the introduction of gluten free, sugar-free, plant-based pasta sauces. Made with sustainably farmed and harvested kelp from the Gulf of Maine, the premium sauces are available in traditional marinara and spicy arrabbiata flavors. “Seaweed adds irresistible flavor and dense nutritional benefit to any food,” said Ocean's Balance CEO Mitch Lench. “It's time that Americans move beyond ‘seaweed as Asian' and start thinking of seaweed as an everyday ingredient on our kitchen tables.” Ocean's Balance will release the new line of Mariner Pasta Sauces at Expo East (9/23-9/25 in Philadelphia), where the Arrabbiata is a finalist for a NEXTY Award. The NEXTY Awards recognize the most progressive, innovative, inspiring, and trustworthy products in the natural products industry. The company plans to unveil the new sauces as “comfort food made with superfood.” Seaweed consumption continues to increase in the U.S. thanks to its well-publicized use by celebrity chefs, its depth of flavor (known as umami), its distinct nutritional benefits, and its powerful sustainability story. “Despite all of its extraordinary benefits, seaweed can still be a leap for many Americans,” said Lench. “That's why Ocean's Balance is creating a new line of products that are comfortingly familiar yet healthier to eat.” The Ocean's Balance Pasta Sauces are ideal with seafood, spaghetti, noodles, and pizza. Earth Friend & Nutrient Rich Seaweed Seaweed is a uniquely sustainable alternative to traditional vegetables and proteins because it is a zero-input crop that requires no fresh water, no arable land, and no fertilizers to grow. Seaweed can play a vital role in fighting climate change by sequestering carbon emissions and regenerating marine ecosystems. Ocean's Balance works with seaweed farmers and lobsterwomen along the Coast of Maine to grow and harvest abundant amounts of the densely nutritional food. By adding farm-raised kelp that is rope grown in the Gulf of Maine, Ocean's Balance is uniquely positioned to offer foods that are sustainably produced and nutritionally rich. “Seaweed is one of my favorite superfoods,” says Mascha Davis MPH, RDN, a nationally recognized registered dietitian nutritionist and founder of Los Angeles-based Nomadista Nutrition. “Seaweed is extremely nutrient dense and contains essential vitamins and minerals such as iodine, fiber, potassium and iron, plus many others. I love that it contains a range of antioxidants and can be a good source of omega-3 fatty acids.” Davis recommends seaweed for its heath and sustainability benefits, adding that hesitant adopters can start by adding small quantities of seaweed to common foods, such as pasta sauces, stir fries or soups. “If all of that wasn't enough, seaweed is one of the most sustainable and earth friendly foods that you can consume. It should be a staple in most of our diets.” Additional health benefits of seaweed include its natural abundance of potassium salts, which – unlike sodium salts typically encountered in processed foods – do not lead to high blood pressure. Seaweed is also a natural source of iodine, which is critical for good metabolic health. Seaweed contains beneficial antioxidants, Omega-3s, dietary fibers, and minerals. It is low in calories, vegan and gluten free. New Mariner Sauces Hit Pasta and Arrabbiata Trend According to recent Nielsen data, pasta sauce sales increased overall by 22.6% in 2020. Arrabbiata was the fastest growing pasta sauce flavor profile, with a 45.6% increase in sales, and Marinara the third fastest, increasing by 31.3%*. (*Nielsen data: 52 weeks ending 11/28/2020). The new line of Mariner Pasta Sauces come in six-packs of 24-ounce recyclable glass jars and have a suggested retail price of $7.99. The company also offers organic whole leaf seaweeds, organic seaweed flakes, a sesame seed blend seasoning line and award-winning kelp purée. Retailers or food service buyers interested in ordering please email lscali@oceansbalance.com. About Ocean's Balance Ocean's Balance produces innovative, edible products made from seaweed that is sustainably farmed in the nutrient-rich waters of the Gulf of Maine. We support coastal Maine communities by working with lobsterwomen to help them farm seaweed, which allows them to diversify their income, stay on the water using equipment they already have, and do what they love. In this podcast interview, Dr. Heather Lench explains why she selected two graduate schools in the state of California for her master's and doctorate degrees in psychology. While most of the reasons relate to the school, program, and scholars in her field of interest, she eventually reveals another reason for staying in “The Golden State.” She also provides insight into how she selected her areas of interest while attending her undergraduate and graduate schools. She attended Florida State University (FSU) as an undergraduate where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She then attended California State University, Fresno (CSUF) where she received her Master of Arts in Experimental Psychology and Marriage and Family Therapy. Dr. Lench then attended the University of California, Irvine (UCI) where she received her Doctor of Philosophy in Social Psychology. Dr. Lench shares how she ended up at Texas A&M University (TAMU) and how she grew through the ranks to become Professor and Department Head of the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences. TAMU offers an M.S. Program in Psychology with a concentration in Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology. TAMU also offers a Doctoral Program in Psychology with training in five areas of including Behavioral and Cellular Neuroscience, Clinical Psychology, Cognition and Cognitive Neuroscience, I/O Psychology, Social and Personality Psychology. In addition to being an accomplished teacher, mentor, and scholar, Dr. Lench is also the Director of, and Principle Investigator for, the Emotion Science Lab which conducts research based on the premise that emotions and “emotional processes are the foundation of cognition and behavior.” She and the Emotion Science Lab research team are currently investigating boredom and comparing those who respond positively to boredom with those who respond negatively in hopes of developing an intervention and techniques to help those who respond less effectively. I found Dr. Lench refreshing, insightful, and full of helpful advice. She is focused on helping students interested in the field of psychology as she includes undergraduate and graduate students on her Emotion Science Lab Research Team. The Lab includes a student resources page to help those interested in finding general information and other resources related to psychology. The student resources page also includes resources to help those applying to graduate schools. Connect with Dr. Heather Lench: LinkedIn Connect with the Show: Facebook | LinkedIn | Twitter https://vimeo.com/502475692 Interests and Specializations Dr. Lench is interested in learning how emotional processes impact behavior and thought. In particular, she assumes that emotions and emotional processes play an important role in the development of behavior and thought. As the principle investigator of the Emotion Science Lab, she and other researchers examine how and why affective responses and emotions impact people's judgments and future behavior. They also study specific emotions and how they influence behavior and cognition. Much of her work would fall under the emerging field of affective science which takes a multidisciplinary approach bridging psychology, judgement and decision-making, and affective neuroscience using a variety of approaches and methods. In this episode we discuss both Chapters IX & X from Darwin's The Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animals. Chapter IX dealt with the interesting phenomenon of the frown - a telltale expression we exhibit when we are disappointed, sad, or confused. Darwin notes:"From these considerations, we may conclude that frowning is not the expression of simple reflection, however profound, or of attention, however close, but of something difficult or displeasing encountered in a train of thought or in action. Deep reflection can, however, seldom be long carried on without some difficulty, so that it will generally be accompanied by a frown".We discussed how the frown is an expression that rarely exhibits "emotional contagion" where others mirror the expression once they see it in someone else. Unlike smiles, which strangers can elicit into others about 20% of the time, frowning at strangers does not result in them frowning back. We discussed the evolutionary value of the frown and why it is exhibited in so many contexts. We spent a lot of the time discussing Hatred and Anger and the unique and specific expressions associated with those emotions. James mentioned a memorable image that came out the Black Lives Matter marches in Montana where an older white man exhibits all of the expression characteristics Darwin lists for those in anger. Spencer Schacht ABC FOX Montana"The mouth is commonly compressed, and there is almost always a frown on the brow. Instead of the frantic gestures of extreme rage, an indignant man unconsciously throws himself into an attitude ready for attacking or striking his enemy, whom he will perhaps scan from head to foot in defiance. He carries his head erect, with his chest well expanded, and the feet planted firmly on the ground. He holds his arms in various positions, with one or both elbows squared, or with the arms rigidly suspended by his sides. Darwin pg 242"Mark and Sarah discussed how anger is associated with change, and expressions of anger seem to exhibit "emotional contagion" but in reality it is often more of a result of positive feedback system, i.e., your anger feeds my anger which then feeds back to your anger. Mark discussed an interesting study by Ceccarini and Caudke (2013) that explored how readily do we recognize an angry or happy face in a crowd. Based upon images of known facial expression they altered the images to remove elements of the individual to create generic genderless face with a range of emotions. With these images they could animate them to have changes in facial expression or they could show the still images within a montage of other expressions. They determined that humans are very good at quickly identifying both happy and angry expressions in a crowd, particularly when the face is opposite expression of the crowd. Recognition of angry faces was significantly faster than happy faces but the difference was only around 200 milliseconds faster showing that we are very sensitive to recognizing both happy or angry faces in a crowd of people exhibiting neutral or alternative expressions. There is a significant cost in exhibiting anger since the physiological changes associated with anger, increase in blood pressure, increase in heart rate, etc. are often linked to an increase in heart attacks. Darwin noted this in his book and modern research has focused on the role of expressions of anger and how management of anger can influence health outcomes. Studies discussed in the podcast:Ceccarini, Francesco, and Corrado Caudek. "Anger superiority effect: The importance of dynamic emotional facial expressions." Welcome the newest episode of Dark Discussions, your place for the discussion of horror film, fiction, and all that’s fantastic. Back in November of 2015, co-host Philip discovered a new video-on-demand science fiction film entitled Circle had been released. After recommending it to co-host Eric, the two convinced the crew to do an episode on this little film that had to say about society, social structure, and the human psyche in, if not an original way, a very unique way. A group of strangers find themselves locked away in a dark room with each standing on a orange-red circle upon the floor. Get off, you die. But more horrific, every two minutes you have to vote a person to die; if you don't, someone randomly dies a horrifying death. The film asks, what would you do? With episode 209 of Dark Discussions released, actor Dan Lench, playing the oddly titled character Rich Man, heard the episode and not only gave feedback but twittered the link to the show to his followers. Soon, his agent, Lisa Berman, did the same. Dark Discussions reached out to Dan and asked him to appear on the show so we could not only learn about him, but for him to give us his comments about the film as well as give us more details on its production. Things learned include behind the scenes facts such has how the soundstage was made, that its location was in the same building as a Chinese laundry, an actor on the final day (having been on the Broadway stage production of the Lion King) sang a magical song, how parts were cast, and where Dan himself almost lost his role to the biggest star of the film! Get ready for a unique episode of the podcast and meet the great, funny, and talented Mr. Dan Lench. Randomly surfing the local radio stations this past Saturday night, Matt Sonzala stopped on Austin's own community station KAZI 88.7 FM and heard a strong track called "What Happened to Austin?" Thankfully the DJ said the artists name - Lench - directly after the song, and Matt found him right here on Soundcloud. The song is a powerful indictment of what has been happening in Austin, from a real native who has strong roots in both South and East Austin. While he agrees that progress can be good, he also shakes his heads as so much of what he loved about his hometown has disappeared. Lench puts this situation into words like no rapper before him. The song goes deep and Matt Sonzala and Lench have a real talk about, What Happened to Austin? (They both still love it though, mostly) Pushermania Podcast Network
