Melbourne artist Sally Velevska says during the height of the lockdowns, many of her clients turned to custom art to help ease the reality of isolation from close family and relatives. Others wanted paintings of themselves in historic and fantasy settings, later gifting them to those they could not reach.
New South Wales rock outfit Zombonimo are pure hard rockers and proud of it.While many bands were sitting back waiting for COVID to run its course and put new music on the back burner until such time, Zombomino were plotting and writing, more conflicted with timing their latest single than writing it.One of the songs they came up with was Camouflage, a song inspired by the recent events that have decimated the global music industry, but not one which preaches the pros and cons of either side.Rather than wait for greener pastures to unleash the track on the public, Zombonimo hatched a plan to shoot a film clip entirely on Go-Pro devices which they sent to Tommirock Studios to work their magic and the result is nothing short of sensational. While many bands elect to release lyric videos these days, Zombonimo took another route with Camouflage, combining lyrics and live action shots punctuated by destructive images that perfectly capture the subject matter.Guitarist/vocalist Kim Abbott joined HEAVY to chat about the new track, starting with why they decided to release the song while still in lockdown."A few things there, mate," he measured. "Number one, we just wanted to keep the ball rolling. It's been a difficult time for everybody just trying to get together over the last year. We put this together in between lockdowns, isolation and border shuts and to record it we had an engineer by the name of James who brought a mobile recording studio around to our place. It's been a long process with the video itself. We were in a full-blown lockdown. We already had the song, but it was a case of what do we do? Do we hang onto it? We've all got Go-Pro's, so we shot it together and sent it in. Lyrically there's a few messages there, but you can write a song or have a message, but your message may not be perceived as what you've put in the lyrics. So we've got a couple of points that we made, which we like to always have some substance with our songs. It can be your own version of events, so you can take your own view out of it."In the full interview, Kim talks about the musical composition of the song, the filming process, why they decided to release it now rather than wait, future new music, upcoming shows and more.

In Melbourne, we have recently re-surfaced from our fifth lockdown and I feel that this one has hit me the hardest. I had to cancel my 40th birthday party and the Manfulness Masterclass, and I feel frustration and irritability confined to my home. This stasis of isolation can bring on many different emotions for people and they can be challenging to handle as the lockdown is out of our control. In this episode, I examine the feelings that are generated from being in lockdown and how media outlets are using these feelings to consume our attention. Fear draws us in and fine tunes our senses, so when we are bombarded with news programs, press conferences, and social media posts, we are stuck in a cycle of dread and negative energy. I will talk to you through my strategy of disengaging from news programs and social media posts to disconnect from the onslaught of constant fear to give yourself the opportunity to recentre and come back into homeostasis. Use laughter as an important tool to clear your body of stagnant energy and improve your mental health. Bring your level of consciousness and awareness to what you are viewing and it will bring an incredible difference to your health and wellbeing. Well, Sydney has been plunged into another lockdown, and we're already a week behind on our regular recording, so we thought - bugger it, why let that stop us? The audio might be a touch muddier than usual, but we still manage to get through our thoughts on the new Loki series, whether UFOs are real (care of the US Government), and a whole host of discussion on the games just announced at 2021's E3 conference. One other change - obviously given we're stuck at home, we didn't review beers in the usual way. Instead, we each tried a few new brews, and briefly gave our thoughts on them. Pete's beers this episode: 1) Wayward Brewing - Cashmere Cat - NEIPA - 6.3% 2) Mountain Culture Beer Co. - Status Quo - New England Pale - 5.6% 3) Garage Project - Give You All My Love - NEIPA - 6.7% 4) Garage Project - Hard Knocks - NEIPA - 7.6% Dan's beers this episode: 1) Honey Rider - Easy Ale - Pale - 4.5% 2) Garage Project - Boss Level - IIPA - 8.5% 3) Brouwerij 't Verzet - Oud Bruin Oak Leaf - Sour - 6.0% 4) Hopsters Co-Op Brewery - The Cool Kids: Cashmere - NEIPA - 6.5% Tom's beers this episode: 1) Bodriggy Brewing Co. - Fuzzy Dance Explosion - Sour - 4.0% 2) Deeds Brewing - Laurel Creek - Sour - 8.0% 3) Big Shed Brewing Concern - Violet NoRegard - Milkshake IPA - 8.0% 4) Ballistic Beer - Eclipse Hazy IPA - NEIPA - 6.1%

MARK AND PETE LIVE. Doctors say that going for a good walk is an effective way to combat the stresses surrounding Covid-19, and it doesn't have to cost the earth to reap the benefits. As studies show the impact of the Covid-19 lockdown on mental health, more people are turning to exercise to boost their spirits. Physical activity is well known to benefit the body by keeping you strong, reducing the risk of certain diseases and helping maintain a healthy weight. In recent months, many people were forced to spend long periods of time at home due to the coronavirus pandemic and exercise has become a cathartic way of tackling stress and beating boredom. Numerous studies conducted since March, when lockdown increasingly came into force worldwide, have shown the toll of Covid-19 on our mental health. Mark and Pete look at this prescription for mental health: get well, take a hike!

Was ist gemeint? Das und vieles mehr diese Woche. Viel Spaß!

This week I complain about grad school readings, Germany's latest lockdown, and getting fat.
Like, subscribe and all that good stuff! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/oliver-utesch/message

The Livestream had initial problem for a few minutes - then we sorted it out! (PS - i found my glasses!) It has been a long week - I think we put out two meaningful episodes. One on mental health and the other on how India is communalising corona - a phenomena that unique at a global level. Both these issues will come back to bite us - ignorance of the mental impact of lockdown and ignorance about the issues that we should be questioning the Govt about. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thedeshbhakt/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thedeshbhakt/support
