She transitioned from a management career to pursue her dream of conquering the world's highest peaks. On this week's episode, host Colbert Cannon sits down with Faith Rosenfeld, Chief Administrative Officer at HPS Investment Partners. Faith recounts the many roles she took on during her 15-year tenure at Goldman Sachs and how one of those roles led her to taking a “blank sheet of paper” approach. Then, Faith discusses her leap into entrepreneurship as a Founding Partner of The Beacon Group, a private equity and advisory firm later acquired by JP Morgan Chase. She shares how business ownership further broadened her unique set of skills and prepared her to join HPS, then Highbridge Principal Strategies, as one of its first-ever employees. We talk about the evolution of the firm to today – and look ahead to how it is integrating ESG strategies from a private credit perspective and fostering an entrepreneurial spirit in its talent.Learn more about Faith Rosenfeld's tenure at HPS here. Kristin Harila is a Norwegian mountaineer, skier, and outdoor athlete. In 2022, her record-breaking attempt to summit all 14 of the world's 8000-meter peaks in six months was brought to a disappointing end as her team failed to obtain permits for the final two mountains in Chinese Tibet. Despite the setback, Kristen is more determined than ever this year to take on the record again set by Nirmal Purja in 2019. In this episode, Kristin talks with Richard about her successes and failures during the 2022 attempt, her dramatic introduction to mountaineering - from altitude sickness on Kilimanjaro to taking on Everest for the first time - and reveals her personal superpower for enduring pain for extended periods during her climbs. You can follow Kristin's adventures on Twitter (@kristin_harila) and Instagram (kristin.harila).To find out more, visit: kristinharila.com***This episode is brought to you by Kase Filters. “I told him, like, when I saw Everest, I said ‘Oh it doesn't look so high!'” Welcome everyone to the It Matters To Me Podcast, a show that celebrates the random through 1-on-1 conversations with people and the passions they pursue. Chances are you've probably heard of Mt. Everest and know that summiting it can be the pinnacle of any climber's career. But did you know that Everest is just one of 14 peaks overall that can boast a staggering height of over 8,000m? To date, only 44 people can claim to have stood atop all 14 of those peaks and the current record for doing so lies with a Nepali climber who did it in 6 months and 6 days back in 2019. Enter today's guest, Kristin Harila, a 36-year-old professional athlete from Norway. A former cross-country skier, Kristin currently runs her own guiding company and leads ski expeditions in the arctic. In May 2021, she set a world record becoming the fastest woman to climb Everest and Lhotse in less than twelve hours and used that to springboard into trying to claim the 14 peaks title for herself and become the first person from a Scandinavian country to do so. Unfortunately, that goal was derailed through no fault of her own when her team was unable to secure the necessary permits from the Chinese government but that doesn't mean she's given up trying. From the outset, even though we've never met before, my conversation with Kristin felt like I was catching up with an old friend and I hope you get that same feeling too. She's not just a tremendous athlete but also someone who radiates positivity and kindness. It was an absolute highlight to be able to do this interview and I can't wait to follow her career as it no doubt continues to break records. So let's dive right in, here's my talk with Kristin Harila. In Immortality, the player sifts through footage of 3 unreleased feature films, trying to solve the mystery of missing (fictional) film star, Marissa Marcel. As a result, the music shifts through several different moods throughout the experience. We also discuss Nainita's Emmy-nominated scores for 14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible and The Reason I Jump. League of Wildness, I just finished listening to Nims Purja on Joe Rogan. Nims' film "14 Peaks" is a must-watch for any dedicated LoW member and I'd highly recommend the Rogan podcast as well. Nims completed what everyone else thought was absolutely impossible - climbing the 14 highest peaks in the world in a span of six months. He beat the previous record by several years. He's a wildman. Listening to Nims share his journey made me reflect. Yes - he did something incredible that was thought to be impossible. But haven't we all done things we thought were impossible? To me - the difference is in the magnitude versus the absolute difficulty. If we took the time to really think about times we had to push beyond what we thought was possible, no matter how small or trivial it might seem, we are capable of much much more. It's more about how hard something was for you as the individual instead of trying to quantify difficulty on an absolute level. Thanks for listening! If you have questions, comments, or a potential guest suggestion please send a note to info@monkii.co or send us a DM to @monkii.co on Instagram. Let's keep the conversation going. Thanks for tuning in and if you are enjoying the episodes we would be eternally grateful if you could leave a 5-star review. It helps to grow the show and spread the good word of the Wild. Thank you. See you out there, -Wildman Dan www.monkii.co

O montanhista Nepalês Nirmal Purja (Nims) ficou famoso após escalar as 14 montanhas acima de oito mil metros, ou seja as maiores do mundo, em tempo recorde. In this episode I'm chatting with Ian Grech BFE, editor of the film '14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible', which is now available to watch on Netflix. With over 15 years of experience in Post-Production, Ian is an extremely sought-after Editor and Colourist. His work has been recognised by BAFTA, The Royal Television Society and The Primetime Emmy Awards, and has worked on projects such as 'Top Gear', along with a multitude of sports-related projects such as 'Adam Hills: Take His Legs', 'Beyond Human', and 'UEFA Champions League'.His latest work, '14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible', follows the fearless Nepali mountaineer Nirmal Purja aka "Nims", as he embarks on "Project Possible", a seemingly impossible quest to summit all 14 of the world's 8,000-meter peaks in seven months. It was Ian's job to elaborate on the character of Nims to show the audience what makes him the man that he is and what his motivations were for completing such a life-threatening task.Throughout the editing process, Ian collaborated closely with director Torquil Jones to complete the challenging task of showcasing the trials and tribulations of each peak, whilst piecing together the hundreds of hours of footage in a way that was both exciting and true to the story.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/geektown. Game, set and Matt. Today's guest is Matt Ebden, one of Australia's best tennis pros, and we speak to him fresh from the 2022 Australian Open, where he and Max Purcell made it to the men's doubles final. Beyond his obvious on-court skills, anyone checking out Ebden's Instagram will notice he's a pretty keen watch enthusiast as well, so it's no surprise that he's got Bremont on board as a sponsor. We chat about the many links between pro athletes and fine timepieces, brand endorsements and connected watches on the court. Ian Grech edited an amazing documentary currently streaming on Netflix called "14 Peaks." Our host, Cirina Catania, talked with him about how he managed to juggle over 100 hours of footage in multiple formats using Premiere Pro. “14 Peaks - Nothing is Impossible.” is a compelling documentary currently available on Netflix. It tells the story of Nimsdai Purja, a fearless Nepali athlete and his vow to climb every mountain in the world higher than 8,000 meters in less than 7 months. It was a death-defying feat and Nims broke several world records in the process, including the fastest ascent of all peaks over 8,000 meters without supplementary oxygen. His final finishing time was 6 months, 6 days! Of course, the story is fascinating, because of the physical and mental challenges, but also because of the heart-warming backstories of Nim's family and friends. Cirina spoke with Ian about his workflow, Premiere Pro, building the storylines from a myriad of different media formats and sub-stories. Ian worked with over 100 hours of footage! I'm sorry to have to disappoint you but the idea that snowflakes are unique is not entirely true, there being eight main types of shapes at the molecular level, with 39 sub-categories which then order themselves via weak hydrogen bonds to each other, resulting in the symmetrical hexagonal shape of the snowflake. At the atomic level they are indistinguishable, being comprised of the same oxygen and hydrogen atoms and in that sense of course we're all interchangeable and alike but a part of the same: the snow, me, you, the phone you're listening to this on, because all atoms of any element are identical. Not close or similar, but exactly identical. Is that profound? I don't know but it's worth bearing in mind while you listen to me and my snowmies discussing the Top 5 Snow scenes or movies.Dan has been talking about the documentary 14 PEAKS: NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE for a few weeks now and with his visit to Nepal on the horizon we thought we'd take the time to review this celebration of extraordinary and almost unimaginable courage, strength and determination. Nepalese climber Nims Purja and his team scale all 14 mountains above 8,000 metres in 6 months and 6 days, a task for which the superlatives barely do justice. These are truly incredible people, doing incredible things for incredible reasons and there's some food for thought in Nims' pleas for greater recognition and acknowledgement of his accomplishments in light of the relative glorification of western mountain-climbers, when their achievements are rooted in the hard work of their Sherpa support teams. Unmissable. We unanimously agreed THAT GIRL LAY LAY is the best kids thing we've ever reviewed on the pod. The Netflix series sees an A.I. avatar from a personal affirmation app materialise in the real world to help boost the self-esteem of 14 year old Sadie, a sentence I only just about understand and a concept which made me feel so old I soiled myself in solidarity with my geriatric brethren. Helpfully that chimes with the theme of the episode "Boombox Burger Bop" in which Sadie's parents struggle for relevance when performing their 10 year old burger jingle. At one point Lay Lay says "hashtag don't sleep on crypto" and I wanted to kill myself. But rapper Lay Lay (real name Alaya High) really does have some flow. That's all for now simpletons. The discussion starts with the inflation rates in the US and India. Chetan says, “You can't see the true suffering of a common man in the stock market because it's an evaluation of the big companies in India. And that is why it is so disconnected from the actual world.” The panel also discusses happiness and wellbeing indices in the context of Pakistan being “happier” than India, according to a recent survey. On ministers and others quitting the BJP in Uttar Pradesh, Manisha says, “All mainstream media have run the BJP statement which says these ministers weren't performing well.” Raman says the “caste equation is going a bit wrong” with these resignations, and that the BJP “will lose vote count”. Chetan doesn't fully agree, saying Adityanath “does have popularity, so a few resignations won't matter that much”.The conversation also spans the Punjab election campaigns, actor Siddharth's comments on Saina Nehwal, and more. This and a lot more, only on NL Hafta.RecommendationsChetanHuberman LabDecoupledAnandRevised SOP on preventive measures to be followed while conducting examinationsThe Great Hindu Civilisation: Achievement, Neglect, Bias and the Way Forward RamanManisha14 Peaks: Nothing Is ImpossibleThe Tender BarAbhinandanMedia experts sound alarm on rise of paywalled contentAfter Each Attack He Carried the Wounded. Today we are returning to a very special episode from the beginning of 2021, when we were lucky enough to chat to mountaineer Nims Purja. Since then, Nims' incredible documentary: 14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible has been released on Netflix, following Nims as he takes on the quest to summit all 14 of the world's 8,000-meter peaks in just seven months. To celebrate Nims' success, we wanted to re-release this episode, sharing with you all of the insights, moments of inspiration and wisdom he imparted during our conversation. Nims had a dream to become a Ghurka like his fathers and brothers before him. He made that dream a reality when he was 18. Six years later he became the first-ever Gurkha to join the UK Special Boat Service, regarded as the most elite unit in the military. Nims set himself a challenge to be the fastest person to climb the world's 14 highest peaks over 8,000m. The previous record for this achievement was 8 years. Nims Purja did it in 6 months. A team of 10 Sherpas led by Nims has just smashed one of the last great remaining prizes in mountaineering – the ascent of K2 during the winter season.Enjoy this extended re-release of Nim's episode - Dream big and always believe that anything's possible!.......Tickets are on sale for our LIVE TOUR in 2022. Dosažená výška 6800 m n. m. 2013, Gašerbrum I 8068 m a Gašerbrum II 8035m, Marek Holeček, Zdeněk Hrubý, Marek Novotný. Dosaženy oba vrcholy. 2015, Gašerbrum I 8068 m, pokus o prvovýstup JZ stěnou s Markem Holečkem. Dosažená výška 7300 m n. m. 2018, Nanga Parbat 8125 m, pokus o prvovýstup Rupálskou stěnou s Markem Holečkem. Dosažená výška 7200 m n. m. 2019, K2 8611 m, výstup jižní stěnou – Česenův pilíř s Markem Novotným a Pavlom Luptákom. Introduction: Minutes 0 to 5:30 We'll be off for the holidays and back on January 8th. I highly recommend the Netflix documentary 14 Peaks, the inspiring story of Nepalese mountaineer Nims Purja. Chandra recommends the documentary The Truffle Hunters, about the dying art of Italian truffle hunting. Chandra also liked The Power of The Dog after initially giving up on it due to an animal abuse scene. Royals: Minutes 5:30 to 11:15 Duchess Kate is one of two People magazine covers this week. The profile is a typical embiggening piece. A British royal commentator named Tessa Dunlop made backhanded compliments about Kate's matronly style. We talk about Kate's style and how it's always off somehow. I play a segment from Zoom where we talk about this. Ben Affleck: Minutes 11:15 to 18 Ben Affleck is promoting his movie on Amazon prime called The Tender Bar. Ben really showed his a- in an interview with Howard Stern. He said that if he stayed with Jennifer Garner “We probably would've ended up at each other's throats. I probably still would've been drinking. Part of why I started drinking was because I was trapped.” In his follow up appearance on Kimmel, Ben did not seem sober. Ben has a history of sabotaging himself and blaming the women in his life. I play a segment from Zoom where we talk about Ben. Our favorite stories of the year: Minutes 18 to 29:30 One of Chandra's favorite stories from 2021 was the Keenwell Institute. There was so much hype ahead of the announcement including a ridiculous commercial featuring footage of Nelson Mandela, Malala and JFK. From Chandra: Kate launched The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, a “research institute” housed within Kensington Palace. There was a “report” called Big Change Starts Small. The report amounted to “the early years are so important, you guys.” I called it the Keenwell Institute for Buttons and Early Years. We've barely heard anything about it since. Kate did a couple of events around it back in June and then nothing. From Chandra: The craziness with Sophie, the Countess of Wessex. Sophie tried to make herself into a senior royal in 2020, and she was clearly pitching herself as a replacement to the Sussexes. Then after Prince Philip passed away, Sophie and Edward went on a publicity tour, giving interviews and taking swipes at Harry, Meghan and Oprah. Sophie pitched herself as the Queen's “rock” and her favorite in-law. Sophie's people also claimed that “Philip would have wanted her” to seek the spotlight. Sophie was thirsty as hell. And then she just stopped. I tend to believe Prince Charles told them to stop. Probably around the same time he told Edward he would never be Duke of Edinburgh. From CB again: My favorite story was the ongoing one where various celebrities revealed that they don't bathe and that they don't use soap. As we mentioned on episode 99, we got hate mail for telling people to bathe. It started with Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis saying in late July on Dax Shepard's podcast that they don't bathe their children until they're visibly dirty and that they barely use soap. Then Jake Gyllenhaal did that insane interview with Vanity Fair in early August where said he finds “bathing to be less necessary” and that “we naturally clean ourselves.” Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard said they don't bathe their kids until they smell bad and then other celebrities like The Rock and Jason Momoa assured us that they do bathe. It was crazy and there never should have been a controversy over not bathing. I also wanted to include the story that the vaccines were distributed this year. It was less than a year from the pandemic to the development, testing and emergency use approval of three different vaccines in the US that are incredibly effective against covid and that was a scientific triumph. Comments of the Week: Minutes 29:30 to end Chandra's comment of the week is from TigerMcQueen on the post about Kate on the cover of People. My comment of the week is from ThatsNotOkay on the post about Alec Baldwin hushing Hilaria while she was in labor with their child. Thanks for listening bitches! Have a great holiday and a happy new year!

Nimsdai was born in Nepal and like his father and brothers before, he signed up to join the Gurkhas, where he would serve for six years. Nims then passed selection for the UK's special-forces and went on to serve another ten years with the Special Boat Service. After leaving the forces, Nims has gone on to become one of the world's greatest mountaineers, accumulating an ever-growing list of record-breaking climbs and rescue missions. After one such mission, Nims was awarded an MBE for outstanding achievement in high-altitude mountaineering. His Netflix documentary, '14 Peaks', follows his attempt to summit all 14 of the world's 'Death Zone' peaks in just seven months. What is green and blue and volcanic all over? This week on the podcast, Kim and Tamara are joined by Katja Gaskell from Globetotting.com to talk about their recent trip to the Azores in a continuation of our Portugal coverage. The Azores are an archipelago of nine Portuguese islands in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean and they are a unique blend of the landscapes of Hawaii, Ireland or Wales, and Iceland with the culture of the Portuguese mainland. Hear what makes these islands so special, and what you need to know before you plan a trip to the Azores. Disclosure: Our trip was hosted by EPIC Travel, a boutique travel agency specializing in arranging custom itineraries in Portugal and Morocco. EPIC's in-country travel planners have close relationships with hotels, guides, drivers and tour operators and can design the perfect trip for your travel style and interests. EPIC focuses on adventure and cultural experiences to allow you to have a deeper and more epic journey. If you book with EPIC Travel and mention that you heard about them on the Vacation Mavens podcast, you will receive a VIP Welcome Gift on arrival. Tips for Visiting the Azores, Portugal The Azores are nine volcanic islands in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean that are part of Portugal You can fly direct from Europe on Ryan Air and some other airlines, or you can go through Lisbon via Tap Airlines and utilize the free layover offering From the USA you can fly direct from Boston on Azores Airlines/ SATA Airlines and starting May 2022 United will offer direct service from Newark The largest island is São Miguel and the main city where the airport is is Ponta Delgada (PDL) São Miguel is a unique mix of landscapes and the island is very well maintained and beautiful The Azores are a real adventure destination for adventure tourism There are currently not a lot of restaurants and hotels for tourists, so you really need to plan very far in advance and be flexible with your plans. It also helps to stay at a hotel with a restaurant You should plan a trip six to nine months in advance The weather can be volatile where you experience many seasons in a day, but the water stays warm thanks to the Gulf Stream and it doesn't get terribly cold in the winter Summer is the ideal time to go, but also the busiest Plan on spending at least three to four days in São Miguel, more if you want to take part in some more of the adventure activities If you plan on visiting multiple islands with a full Azores trip, plan on 10 to 14 days in total A trip to the Azores is a sightseeing and active vacation, and not a resort-based, relaxation island vacation Other Azores islands to visit include Pico, Sao Jorge, Faial (which are very close to each other) and Terceira If you are not comfortable driving through small towns with narrow streets or along cliffs then you may want to take a private tour with a driver/guide Some roads get washed out due to rain or storms that cause mudslides Guides will also be able to check apps and weather to see what conditions are like in different places and can adjust on the fly Best places to see in Sao Miguel include: Caloura (fishing village) Sete Citades (blue and green lakes) Furnas (thermal activity and hot springs) Ribeira dos Caldeiroes (waterfalls) Ponta da Ferraria (cliffs and lava beach) There are many adventure activities on Sao Miguel, perfect for adventurous families and families with teens including: Coasteering Snorkeling Cliff diving Canyoning Kayaking Surfing Dolphin and whale watching tours Where to stay on Sao Miguel: Azor Hotel in Ponta Delgada is convenient for access to the airport and town, with nice spacious rooms, nice views, and a great restaurant, but it is better to get outside of Ponta Delgada if possible Furnas Boutique Hotel is in Furnas and has a nice spa, hot springs, and pools heated by geothermal activity. There are activities on site and the hotel staff is extremely friendly and personable, but the rooms are on the smaller side. Santa Barbara Beach Resort is an eco-resort located above a nice swimming and surfing beach. There are different types of suites with kitchenettes, spread across different buildings, some of which have a shared infinity pool To visit the Azores, we needed a separate negative PCR test within 72 hours of departure. You need to complete a locator form and upload your test results and these are checked upon arrival at PDL. Masks are also required indoors everywhere when we visited.

What do Owen Wright, Adam Melling, Nick Meaney, Connor O'Leary, Stuart Kennedy and Berrick Barnes all have in common? They've all spent vast periods of their careers training under the tutelage of Exercise Physiologist and Goju Ryo Karate (5th Dan Sensei) expert Pete Roberts in his garage in Lennox Head. For a tiny garage, in a small Northern NSW town, that is a phenomenal record. What's even more impressive, is that professional athlete or not, kids who invest time in his gym come out the other side not just better athletes but better people and that in itself speaks volumes to Pete's character and the culture he creates. This podcast is all about highlighting people who are doing great things in the community and Pete exemplifies this and more. So tune this week to gain a bit of old school wisdom from one the best movement coaches around. Welcome to our weekly segment, "Three Minute Thursday" (#3MinThursday) where I highlight a piece of wisdom I've come across from my own readings over the past week, or share with you an inspirational anecdote that can help you lead a more calm, free and compassionate life. --Earlier this week I got some sad news – a former boss of mine from London passed away. He left behind a beautiful family – a wife and three kids. He was an amazing human with great empathy and compassion for humanity and others.I'll be the first to admit, that most days, I'm not thinking about life as impermanent, as transitory. Most of the time I'm playing for the future. For the next week, the next year. But this incident gave me that reminder I needed to keep mortality in mind each and every day. To live each day as if it were my masterpiece, not as if it's just another ordinary day in an infinite life.Stoic philosophers opined on death greatly and have left a litany of profound knowledge we can use to our benefit in modern life:Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius famously said “It is not death that a man should fear, but rather he should fear never beginning to live.”...“Don't behave as if you are destined to live forever.”This same week, an incredible Netflix film called 14 Peaks, helped take this Marcus Aurelius wisdom a step further for me.In 2019, a Nepali mountain climber who goes by the name of Nims, climbed all of the worlds 8000+ peaks - the death zones - in less than 7 months – a world record. He knew that if he quite while on a mountain he would die. But in being so acutely in the present moment as he climbed those mountains, he found that fear of death became irrelevant. In other words...he was free. Freedom comes from living fully in the present – free from fears, from worry, from regret, from anxiety, from planning– and living fully with enthusiasm and in the pursuit of a purpose beyond yourself. For Nims, his purpose was to gain recognition for all the nameless Sherpas that helped countless western climbers over countless years with no credit. So these two things – the death of a colleague and 14 Peaks helped nail down a solid definition of freedom for me. That freedom happens when you keep mortality in mind which then forces you to live each and everyday in the present without fear, energized by a higher purpose and infusing these present moments with joy and positivity.Certainly you don't have to be climbing Annapurna or K2 to find the kind of freedom Nims has – you can do it in your own way. You just have to internalize this definition of freedom and make the life-changing choices that put you on the path to getting it. --For more from Host Pooja Mottl: www.PoojaMottl.comPodcast Producer: www.Go-ToProductions.comTwitter: @PoojaMottlInstagram: @TheCalmandFreePodcast and @PoojaMottl LinkedIn: @PoojaMottlSpecial Thanks : Kris Kosach of the TPR Podcast for lending her VO for our Podcast Intro.Jessica Panian for her help with our graphic design. Goals, Plans, Budgets, Quest are all maps to success. With insurance, we do a lot of planning for the next year right now. They can be big of plans: We saw 14 Peaks last night on Netflix with Nimsdai Purja journey to summit all 14 of the Worlds tallest mountains in 7 months. They can be small like have the laundry done Friday so that the weekend you go hiking. They are important. As we finish up the year, it's a good job to refresh and set new goals for the coming year as you gather with friends and family. The big questions to be asking right now is where do you want to be in 2023 and what steps are you going to make to get there?
This episode is part of the second series of the Mountain Malarkey Podcast where we have the recorded episodes from the Tuesday Tune-In LIVE streams on the EverTrek Facebook page. We have all been captivated by the Netflix film 14 Peaks: Nothing is Impossible and watching Nimsdai Purja summit all 14 of the worlds 8,000-meter peaks in just over 6 months! It has lit a fire under a lot of EverTrekkers as we have received lots of questions about how they go about summiting the worlds highest peaks as well as where to start and what experience is needed for certain trips. So today we are going to be discussing and laying out the roadmap for your High Altitude treks and summits, including what goals you need to achieve before you take them on and of course answering all of the usual trekking and altitude questions that drop onto the live Every week Andy & Dave discuss topics like equipment, fitness, and mindset - as well as running regular Q and A sessions. These recordings are a little different to your typical Mountain Malarkey podcast and they cover literally hundreds of questions around everything trekking related. This week the Guff Guff Pass gang dives into the various dynamics of friendship and brotherhood that we've fostered over the years. It brings out various takes on the topics which could or could not be relatable to most but is definitely something we've pondered over once in our lifetime. We also tread through the recently released 14 peaks documentary and the legendary Nims Purja's feat in it. A personal account also follows of a member and their encounter with the man himself . All in all it was another session filled with laughter, introspection and a variety of perspectives especially with the probability of another pandemonium courtesy of the omicron variant --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/guffguffpass/message

Catrin Lowe and Rich Nelson from Don‘t You Want Me? podcast join Flixwatcher remotely to review Catrin's choice Dirty Dancing. Dirty Dancing is a 1987 romantic drama written by Eleanor Bergstein and directed by Emile Ardolino and stars Patrick Swayze as dance instructor Johnny Castle and Jennifer Grey as Baby. Set in the summer of 1963, Baby and her family are on vacation at Kellerman's - an American version of Butlins - in the Catskills. After Baby intervenes to help Johnny's dance partner Penny with an abortion she steps in to dance with Johnny and goes on a journey of self-discovery. Marketed as a ‘chick flick' - dancing, pink font, the mega-hit ‘(I've Had) The Time of My Life' by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes, peak Patrick Swayze - Dirty Dancing has much more depth and nuances than a lot of people give it credit for. For a mainstream film to include botched abortions as a major plot point in the 1980s was a brave move. [supsystic-tables id=244] Scores for recommendability for 14 Peaks were high from guests and Flixwatcher. As with documentaries the repeat viewing score was much slower giving a very respectable overall score of 4.10. 14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible premieres on Netflix UK on Monday 29 November. Full episode and Show Notes - www.wearelookingsideways.com I’m used to chatting guests with massive goals or awe-inspiring achievements under their belts. Think of Ross Edgeley’s Great British Swim, or Christina Koch’s record-breaking spaceflight. And this week’s guest Andrew Alexander King is right up there. Andrew is a surfer, climber and mountaineer who is at the beginning of an audacious attempt to become the first African-American to climb the seven highest mountains and volcanoes on each continent. 14 peaks in all, each with their own dangers and unique challenges. As a life goal, it is frighteningly ambitious. And that’s before you factor in his Between Worlds Project, through which he hopes to subvert the “lottery ticket of birth” that currently sets your cultural path, and dictates who gets to see these environments as viable playgrounds; a subject that is currently the subject of much transatlantic discussion and controversy. Like I said, it is ambitious stuff, and about as far-removed from the “because it’s there’ orthodoxy that has shaped the narrative of exploration for the past two hundred years as it is possible to get. Andrew’s infectious personality and compelling backstory only add to the intrigue. Naturally, I was keen to speak to him for the show, and find out more about his quixotic quest, so in March 2021 we caught up over Zoom to discuss the whole thing. It’s a good one this. Enjoy. This is a long read taken from The Red Bulletin. Ex-British Special Forces soldier Nirmal Purja was not taken seriously by the mountain team when he set himself the challenge of scaling the only 14 peaks in the world which are above 8000m. The previous fastest-known time for completing this was almost 8 years. Nims did it in just 6 months. Hear his story. This article was taken from The Red Bulletin.
