If there's a healing modality that can bring up some polarizing opinions… it's homeopathy. Some say it's incredibly effective (even where all else fails), some scoff it off as nothing but placebo. Others don't understand what it is at all, or how to use it . . .So today- we've got an incredible expert on the show.  Rachel Roberts is the Chief Executive at the Homeopathy Research Institute, and she's separating fact from fiction in today's episode.Personally,  I've been using homeopathy  since I was a kid, and it's something I continue to use today in conjunction in with other modalities (which is a big opinion I'll get into in this episode).I believe it to be an incredibly useful tool in our toolbox, and for those who might not know what it is, or are feeling skeptical- today's episode is definitely worth a listen. We're Covering: Rachel's explanation of what homeopathy ishow she started as a major skeptic, and how that changed (*hint- the Royal Family played a part) not just placebo - what the evidence says known conditions that have more evidence Rachel's opinion on “no side effects” when it comes to homeopathy (it's not what you think!)challenges when it comes to homeopathic research homeopathy for agriculture and an alternative to pesticides damaging headlines Rachel's feelgood thing About RachelRachel has a First-Class Honours degree in Biological Sciences specialising in Physiology from the University of Birmingham. Rachel lives with her wife Jules, and a menagerie of pets and enjoys biking, reading, and fishing.     Show Highlights    Bucking the status quo yields the greatest results when dropping the archetype of a “leader.” The importance of informal check-ins with team members. Challenges faced by highly qualified female leaders that can cause them to drift from their authentic selves and the strategies for combating this.  Adopt relational leadership to foster authentic connections that allow you to know the humanity of your team.  Rachel shares other models of leadership to consider for transformational leadership to challenge the impact of current systems. Empower everyone to be a learner by emphasizing the importance of questioning. Intentionality and the power of having protocols.  “And the success that I had over the years has really been closely related to my ability to let down my guard, to bring my authentic self to space, and to allow others to do the same. In any thorny challenge I have ever had, leading schools or working with principals, I bring that problem right back to the team because it's our problem that we own together.  I think that's made me pretty successful, I should really say the teams are very successful.” -Rachel Roberts “Never stop learning and to find those stories that align to your authentic selves, and to also recognize that every one of your staff members needs to be able to bring their true, authentic self. It's 1900 in Australia. A group of students from a girls' boarding school, brimming with the enthusiasm of youth, embark on what's supposed to be a carefree Valentine's Day outing at the iconic Hanging Rock. The ambience is idyllic, and the laughter is contagious. But as the day unfolds, this innocent trip takes a dark turn. Four girls, drawn inexplicably into the rock's embrace, venture deeper. By sunset, only one returns, memory erased, and a teacher is mysteriously gone.Behind this masterpiece is director Peter Weir, who, fresh from his first full-length feature film, The Cars That Ate Paris, crafts an atmosphere that is seen and felt. The cast, led by talents like Anne-Louise Lambert as the ethereal Miranda and Rachel Roberts as the stern Mrs Appleyard, breathe life into Joan Lindsay's iconic novel. But this film isn't just about the mystery of the missing. At its core, "Picnic at Hanging Rock" delves into themes of nature versus civilisation. The untouched beauty of the Australian wilderness stands in stark contrast to the Victorian-era restraints and societal expectations the girls grapple with. Themes of time, both its palpable passage on that fateful day and the metaphysical aspects, play heavily throughout the film. It challenges us to consider sexuality, the mysteries of adolescence, and the clash between the known and the unknown. This isn't just a movie; it's a mood, an atmosphere. It's a dreamlike state that lingers, asking viewers to grapple with the line between reality and the ethereal, the known and the unknowable. The haunting soundtrack and the Australian landscape's cinematic beauty craft a visceral and cerebral experience. And today, as we traverse this intricate cinematic landscape, we're joined by Tab. With her unique insights and deep appreciation for film, we're set to embark on a deep dive into this masterpiece. So, listeners, join us as we explore, analyse, and celebrate the intricacies and enigmas of "Picnic at Hanging Rock."Follow Tab and the Stiletto Banshees:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thestilettobanshees/Web: https://www.thestilettobanshees.com/Support the showIf you're enjoying the podcast, you can support me at https://www.buymeacoffee.com/dingomoviepod A Dingo Ate My Movie Socials:Web: dingomoviepod.comTwitter: @DingoMovieFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/dingomoviepodInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/dingomoviepodLetterboxd: https://letterboxd.com/Feej/Email: pete@dingomoviepod.comSpotify Music Playlist (music from the movies featured on the podcast)Please note that this podcast often explores topics and uses language from past eras. Explore what it means to be "spiritual" or live meaningfully without the outmoded accessories of religious trappings. Rachel Roberts will offer definitions of terms that illustrate how ancient human inclinations, such as spirituality, are still relevant but need to be recontextualized in the 21st century. She will also provide examples and ideas for nonreligious meaning-making traditions and rituals that can enhance everyday living and the overarching life journey. Being connected to something greater than ourselves, whether it's community, love, nature, or any other value, is the epicenter of secular spirituality. Rachel Roberts is the author of Confessions of an American None: A Credo of Sorts. The study of religion has been her passion since young adulthood. She has a bachelor's degree with an emphasis on philosophy of religion, and a masters degree in Theological Studies from Southern Methodist University. She grew up in a Christian cult with her mother, yet her father was an atheist. After an on-again, off-again relationship with Christianity as an adult, Rachel found her truth and freedom in coming out as a non-believer. Friends are life's treasures. And today, I'm with one of my best, Rachel Roberts Mattox. She's the CEO of Oyl and Water, a beauty brand development and marketing agency; she contributed in Season One to the podcast and I wanted her back to discuss 2021. We share our reflection and completion of 2021. Specifically, we wanted to talk about our learnings  — what we gained because of 2021; and also the things we leave in 2021. We used the word breakdown — because isn't it really a breakdown when things don't go the way you want them to go? And what we each recognize is without breakdowns, the deeper learning for life may not be born. What is born is a breakthrough. We shared today our breakdowns and the void that remained because of them — but ultimately the learning and greatness that we bring with us into 2022 because of those very things that challenged us last year. Deepened conversation is one of the most creative mediums there is.  In fact, we each left this episode complete with 2021, deeper in our friendship and excited to create 2022. The invitation is that you, too, sit down with a good friend, allow for space and time to share and listen in a deepened conversation so you can hear yourself and each other acknowledge the work you put into last year; and your insights and wisdom that you've gained because of living during an amazing time in the world. In this conversation you'll hear:How to share authenticallyWhy completion is valuableWhat can be born out of a breakdownWhat choice we have when void is presentHow to let go and growResources:One Creative Act's Instagram: @onecreativeactMary Lyn Jenkin's Instagram: @marylynbigfishBig Fish Co.'s Instagram: @livebigfishcoBig Fish Co.'s Website: livebigfishco.com Mighty Women's Website: livebigfishco.com/flash-saleOyl and Water's Website: oylandwater.com Oyl and Water's Instagram: @oylandwaterRachel Roberts Mattox's Instagram: @rrmattox628

On this episode, Leo will be chatting with American None founder Rachel Roberts about her work towards creating spiritually minded community beyond labels. “Historically, the term "Nones" refers to the 100+million Americans who no longer identify with organized religion. But today, people decline labels of all kinds (sexual orientation, gender, racial, and political identities, etc.) in preference for their inherent value as an individual within the diverse fabric of humanity.” If you would like to get in touch with Rachael, please check out : http://Www.americannone.com/ http://www.rachel-roberts.com/ americannone on Twitter, Instagram, Spotify, LinkedIn, YouTube Please visit facebook.com/Conversationsofficial to follow along and join the community at Conversations Official Group on Facebook. Recovering From Religion
E107: The Amway of Cults, Bad Perms & Other 1980s Atrocities with Rachel Roberts, Th.M.

During the decade when Evangelicalism was coalescing with politics, a homegrown cult, known as the Shepherding Movement, reached its zenith. A religious pyramid scheme that bilked people of their money, identity, and freedom quietly penetrated the Southern United States. Rachel Roberts escaped the cult and the 80s, and fortunately outgrew both, just like her teenage bad perm. Rachel Roberts founded American None™, the first organization of its kind to serve the fastest-growing (non)religious demographic in our country– the Nones. She is the author of “Confessions of an American None: A Credo of Sorts”. Rachel is deeply motivated to help elevate the soul of our nation and believes that collectively Nones harness a vast power to do so. The study of religion has been her passion since young adulthood. She has a bachelor's degree with an emphasis on philosophy of religion, and a masters degree in Theological Studies from Southern Methodist University. She grew up in a Christian cult with her mother, yet her father was an atheist. After an on-again, off-again relationship with Christianity as an adult, Rachel found her truth and freedom in coming out as a None. Rachel has three children, a dog named Tito, and a cat named Strudel. Her guilty pleasures include gummy bears, a crisp IPA, and Star Trek.
