We Are More Than Grant Writers I've had several conversations lately with students in the Fast Track to Grant Writer program and with my nonprofit strategy clients about all the different roles we fill.  Our job is so much more than just writing grants. Often it's about building relationships, supporting a nonprofit in other fundraising or development projects, and evaluating programs to provide accurate reports. There is a person on the other side of everything. You're not talking to a stack of money. Talk to the person.   Put in the time and effort to cultivate sincere, meaningful relationships. Welcome to today’s show! In today’s episode, I discuss a pandemic of loneliness and outline 3 ways to combat loneliness during Covid19.   On Measuring Loneliness I reference a quote from Jack:   I received a DM from an old college friend the other day who said he missed me and wanted to catch up. I was so touched that I started to cry. I feel strange saying I'm lonely because I have a loving family. I repeat to myself, I have a wife and kids. But maybe I am lonely. With my week consisting of sitting in front of a computer on Zoom meetings by myself, the amount of people I come into contact with is slim. WHAT WE’LL LEARN The Gender Divide: How Men & Women differ when trying to connect with their same sex friends US Surgeon General (under President Obama) addressed loneliness and why people refuse to address the fact that they’re lonely but it’s actually a sign that our body gives us We discuss an example from Jack’s life Pick up the phone. And call at least 3 guy friends a week. Arrange a standing event.  Get something on the calendar and make it part of your routine (e.g. a standing walk around the neighborhood). Sleep. Welcome to today’s show! In today’s episode, I outline 5 ways Hypnotherapy Can Help you Find Unexpected Meaning in recovery.  Hypnotherapy is this podcast is a tool but it can be replaced with any resource you like: talk therapy, yoga, Memoirs (love a good memoir).   Digging for Unexpected Meaning I reference a quote which I feel sums up the episode well.    He who has a why to live can bear almost any how. – Friedrich Nietzsche   WHAT WE’LL LEARN   Take all things as ‘granted’  as gifts not “for granted” as entitlement   Connection. (with your past & future selves)- I talk about bringing in props to the hypnotherapy session to help connect with loved ones at a time where connection is difficult for many Safety. We need to teach our CNS that it’s okay. We are safe at this moment. We identify 3 cues of safety in this present moment. Core Values. Hypnotherapy will help you identify who is your spiritual connection, your higher power, your future self. And when you’re not living up to your core values, Hypnotherapy will point this out (in a non-judgmental way :)) We look at the story of Jack Service.  If you are in AA, you know how powerful service can be.   How hypnotherapy can bring us closer to our loved ones (living & deceased) And no I’m not talking about time travel. Or am I? :)   RESOURCES MENTIONED Episode 80: How to Deal with Extreme Emotional Anxiety Episode 64: Writing as A Vehicle for Truth-Telling, Healing, and Recovery Schedule a free 15 minute 1:1 hypnotherapy consult here.   For more info, head over to atheistsinrecovery.com and subscribe to our email list. Welcome back to the Not So Wimpy Teacher podcast!   Are you a teacher who spends a little too much time at school or even a little too much time working at home? Then this is the episode for you.   I want to challenge the idea that the only way that you can be a good teacher is if you work really long hours, and that only the teachers who work really long hours are doing a great job.    News flash: your value is not tied to the number of hours you work. Your value is what you do with those hours.   I’m going to share a little of my own story as well as some strategies that I used to take back my life while still being a great teacher. It doesn’t have to be mutually exclusive.    Episode 85 Takeaways:  + Your value is not tied to the number of hours you work.  + It’s okay if being a mom isn’t your only calling.  + You don’t have to give up your personal life to be a good teacher.  + Taking back time for yourself will actually make you a better teacher.  + Use your calendar wisely.  + Decide on your work hours and put them in your calendar.  + Batch your lesson planning to save time.  + Protect your planning time.  + Use routines.  + Grade smarter.    Here’s what I want you to take away from this episode: your value as a teacher is not determined by the number of hours that you work, but rather what you do with your time when you are working.   You were meant to be a teacher. Your students need you, but they need the very best version of you. So rediscover who that is by spending less time at work and more time with friends and family, on hobbies, and just being alone and taking care of yourself.    The teacher who has boundaries and balance will have the most energy to teach and make a difference in the classroom.   I’d love to know what other ideas you come up with, so head over to our Instagram @notsowimpyteacher to share those with me!    Resources Mentioned:  Episode 33: Save Time Lesson Planning With Batching    Want more Not So Wimpy Teacher tips and tricks? 77: Writing Morning Pages for High Performance

Beauty and the Gi

How are you? That feels like a loaded question this week, in a time of social distancing, uncertainty, and fear about what happens next. Earlier in the week, I pulled out my journal to write my daily affirmations. We just talked about writing affirmations in Ep 73 of the podcast. It’s part of my daily morning routine. But on Tuesday, the more I wrote, the worse I felt because none of them were ringing true for me. I got so frustrated that I finally stopped and scribbled, “This is all BS.” Then I just started writing everything that I was feeling inside. It felt so good to have an emotional purge and get it all out in a few pages. It was like a little visit back to my practice of writing morning pages. Later in the week, I was working on a podcast for a client and they mentioned Morning Pages and Julia Cameron. Julia Cameron is the author of a book called The Artists Way - A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity.  In this book, she walks us through the daily practice of writing morning pages. It’s a simple exercise of just opening up your journal and writing out in longhand, 3 pages of whatever is on your mind. The beauty of this exercise is that there is no wrong way to do it. You just have to do it. You open up your journal and if you feel it, if you think about it, you write it down. The purpose is that getting these thoughts out of your head on onto the paper opens up space for creativity. Right now, this feels like the morning practice I need to create the focus and clarity I need to perform at a higher level on and off the mat. What would happen if you walked into your next jiu-jitsu class and your mind was a blank slate? What if you weren’t thinking about what you needed to pick up from the store on the way home, or replaying a frustrating conversation with a co-worker? Would you have more capacity to retain what you were learning? Would you take better notes? Would you recognize the opportunity to actually put into practice what you learned in your next roll? My fellow white belts, would it all finally start to click? I am committed to a daily practice of writing my morning pages. I’m also going back and re-reading The Artist’s Way by Julie Cameron. Would you like to join me in getting the distractions out of our heads so we can show up in the world and perform at a higher level? You can start your writing by answering the question I asked at the top of the episode. How are you? I will be posting about his weekly in our Beauty and the Gi Gang Facebook group. Rachel Crethar started Rock & Co in January 2016 while juggling two kids and a career in advertising as a media strategist. Guided by a strong ‘knowing’ following a chance encounter with a piece of Citrine a year earlier,  Rachel was inspired to create Rock & Co. Rachel’s intuition served her well, with Rock & Co growing rapidly and to become the “most coveted crystal brand in Australia”. In 2017 she left the advertising world behind to focus full time on Rock & Co and her growing work within the healing space. Rachel hosted regular workshops and events across Australia and New Zealand, educating and empowering people to harness the healing power of crystals within their own lives. In 2018, inspired by her love of healing and fascination with how the subconscious can create our reality, Rachel completed her studies to become a certified hypnotherapist and Rapid Transformational (RTT) Therapist. After personally suffering from anxiety, low self-esteem and post-natal depression in the past, Rachel’s empathy and passion for understanding the human mind, and why we do the things we do, is innate.  Rachel now works with clients all over the world, helping them overcome all kinds of problems including anxiety, emotional eating disorders, removing money blocks, relationship issues and even helping them fall pregnant naturally after years of trying. Sessions are mostly conducted online via Zoom or Skype, with a limited number of appointments available in-person in Sydney’s Paddington. Rachel was named one of Women's Health Magazine’s '25 Trailblazers on a Mission to Change Your World' in 2019, and has also been featured in Real Living, Elle Australia, Marie Claire Australia, Baskk, Peppermint, Yen Magazine, Body & Soul, The  Wayward, Byrdie and more. When it comes to music, we all want to enjoy our creative time and we all want to enjoy being in the studio as much as possible.    However, sometimes it's great, sometimes it's amazing and sometimes it just pain sucks!    We've all experienced the downsides at some point and one of the common reasons I find for this is because we set unrealistic expectations for ourselves.    We compare our music to people far ahead of us on our journey, and then feel disappointed and down heartened when our music fall short of our expectations   In my opinion, creating more realistic expectations of ourselves lead to improved momentum with our music and a whole lot more enjoyment in the studio! In this episode, I'm going to propose an approach for taking that kind of pressure completely off our shoulders and instead, positively influence our chances of enjoying our time in the studio.  Key Takeaways: Be honest about where you are in your production journey Set your expectations based on your current experience Set yourself challenges based on your current skill set “You've got killer taste and you're measuring the gap between that and where you actually are now” - Ira Glass   Resources Mentioned Episode 28 - Being Crushed By Overwhelm On Storytelling - Ira Glass Episode 14 - Quantity Versus Quality Debate Creative Strategies for Finishing More Music Ebook

There is a common myth amongst music producers that when it comes to our music production, that we have to do it all or else it's cheating.   But what if I tell you, you don't have to.   For years and years the commercial music industry has seen a division of processes with different people responsible for each stage of each process. From song writing, to composition, to song arrangement, and then post production processing.   So why in underground electronic music do we feel we have to do it all?In this episode I'll be sharing with you the value of shipping out tasks that you find problematic or, simply, not enjoyable and the importance of focusing on doing things that you like to do in order for you to reach your version of success. Women often look for signs before making a life-changing move in their businesses or careers. One of the signs that we look for is the permission or approval from the people around them. While there are many reasons for delaying that big leap, refusing to take action while waiting for the approval or permission of others has led several highly ambitious women to suffer significantly -- wasting their time and effort when they could have been spending it on something that would help them thrive in their career. Keep Reading >> Today, I am discussing how if you say you are ready for the next big leap in your career - then you are ready. This week's Halloween Episode has us stalking our Ideal Client Avatar on Facebook (but not in a creepy way!).  In this training episode, I walk you through 10 places on Facebook to look for your Ideal Client and what to do with the information you learn about them.  Facebook offers a huge amount of data, insight and almost scary knowledge of our audience and we as business owners can access that data but also use it to attract more of the people we want to work with.  Tune in today for this fun Halloween episode focused on this one piece of your branding foundation. Don't Miss These Tidbits: [02:33] Even if you have never run a Facebook ad and you don't know anything about facebook ads manager or facebook business manager, I'm going to highly suggest you get in there and set up an account and start to play and I'm specifically going to recommend that you get into facebook business manager because there are some extra tools in there that gives you access to additional insights and criteria that you really want to have available.[04:16]So say your ideal client isSusiee and she's 45 and she lives in Asheville, North Carolina, and she owns a soap store and she's interested in things like Martha Stewart and a Mother Earth News and organic farming. And you get the idea, you can go in and you can select those items in those interests in facebook. And it will spit out an audience which you can then run facebook ads to, or you can see what other interests those people have. It will give you suggestions. So start there and create that custom audience so that you can see the demographics, the demographics for additional demographics for your ideal client in any similar groups or pages or information that they might be involved in or it might be connected to.[10:42] Next, you need to figure out where they are spending time on social media, so if you're doing all this research and you're going to jump into Facebook ads, but your audience doesn't live on facebook because you're a business to business company, you're more likely going to find your audience on Linkedin and so you're spending time and energy on Facebook. Well the people that you're trying to connect with, when they're on Facebook, they are there to socialize. They're not there to talk business, they're not there to be promoted to and they're not there to connect with you on a business level, so just to make sure that your audience and the people that you are trying to connect with are on the platform you're trying to engage in.[16:23] Messenger bots area great way for you to showcase your personality and gather information through a quiz about your audience and about what they're interested in and about what's going on with them. And it doesn't always have to be business. It can be fun, it can be interesting, it can be silly, but it gives you a great way to play with a chat Bot as well as make it functional and make it useful for what you're trying to achieve. So think about creating a quiz that asks about favorite movies or books or music or favorite quotes or um, popular things that are happening.[23:29] And then last but not least, being aware of this, specifically being aware of your competitors is going to get you to understand why your ideal client is either not buying from your competitor. And if they're not buying from them, that's a great place for you to fill in and create a solution that isn't being met. A lot of people will just be like, oh my competitors have it all taken care of. But if you really go and snoop on their facebook page, you'll see the complaints are in their google reviews. You're going to see the complaints that people have about that product or service and they're not in the five-star reviews and they're not in the one-star reviews or somewhere in the middle. But if you can go and check those reviews out on facebook for your competitors, you're going to see you know what's happening and what is being missed and what you can fill in as a solution that they're not providing. Listen to the entire episode here: [spp-player url="https://feedu.podbean.com/mf/play/kkbjer/008_Stalking_Your_ICA_but_not_in_a_creepy_way_.mp3"] Resources Mentioned: Episode 006 - Chatbots With Kelly Noble Mirabella Grab the FREE Stalk Your Ideal Client Checklist Key Takeaways: 1.  Facebook is the place to gather data and intel on your ideal client through researching groups, pages, and your competitors. 2.  Using Facebook Business Manager to create custom audiences will help you delve further into the mindset and interests of your Ideal Client. 3.  Knowing your ideal client inside and out (including what they eat for breakfast) will take you the extra mile of standing out from your competitors online and offline. His work has been featured by many UK media outlets, and he is a member of the British Psychological Society and the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis. On today’s episode, Felix and I focus on the topic of hypnotic responsibility. We dive into the responsibilities of the client and the therapist and the problems that can arise when certain responsibilities are taken on by the wrong party. He shares his user experience and the four steps of the specific protocol he created for working with clients. We also discuss how he uses psychoeducation to build a rapport and level of trust and respect with his clients.   “The ones who are prepared to do the work will always do well because it’s more about psychoeducation, understanding, mentoring, and teaching rather than hypnosis.” - Felix Economakis   How working in retail was good practice for selling change to hypnosis clients. The importance of discerning where your client is coming from and what you need to do to win them over. How his experience allows him to recognize patterns and anticipate responses. The importance of showing your clients empathy. How he methodically walks clients through all of their objections. The details of his user experience and how he diffuses their concerns throughout the process. How he reframes the session and change as part of the learning curve while taking away the pressure to pass or fail. The language and techniques he uses to calm performance anxiety. The benefits of explaining the desired change as a change of perception. How he uses psychoeducation to reframe the issue the client has in a way that they have never been able to articulate before. The benefits of having parents present during the session. How “parts therapy” can be engaging for the patient. The 4R’s Protocol he created and how each piece of the protocol works together. The importance of making the client responsible for choosing to change. How one moment in a session made him realize that hypnosis is not always necessary for the system to change. How he began his work with selective eaters and what he has learned from his experiences. The difference between clients who are prepared to do the hard work and those who are not. How to avoid putting pressure on yourself when you are the client’s “last hope.” Why deeper hypnosis is often not the answer.     Felix’s 4R’s: Rapport Reconciliation (parts therapy) Responsibility for change Rewiring (hypnosis)   Resources Mentioned: Episode 142: Howard Cooper on Rapid Change   Connect with Felix Economakis: felixeconomakis.com Facebook Live training in London - October 2018 The 4R's Protocol Training Forum       Ready for your hypnosis script troubles to be solved? Podcast Movement is a conference for podcasters, aspiring podcasters, and podcast service providers such as editors, software vendors, and hardware vendors. I first heard about Podcast Movement while attending the Social Media Marketing World conference earlier this year and I decided to attend this year's conference in Philadelphia. In this episode, I share my top 10 takeaways from the Podcast Movement 2018 conference, some interesting statistics regarding the growth of the podcast medium, and why podcasters need to submit their shows to more places than Apple Podcasts. I explain why it is difficult for podcast episodes to “go viral” and what podcasters can do to create viral-worthy marketing content to promote their show. I also share some of the marketing strategies I learned that work well for many podcasters as well as creative ways podcasters are growing their audience, engaging with their listeners, and developing new content ideas for their shows. “You are building a connection with your podcast. You are not in the convincing business.” - Sigrun   In This Episode of The Sigrun Show: Interesting statistics regarding the podcast industry's growth Challenges potential podcast listeners face when trying to find and listen to podcasts Why the “podcast” term could be confusing for potential new listeners The importance of using Apple Podcast links instead of iTunes links on your website Why podcasters need to submit their shows to Spotify, Overcast, and the new Google Podcasts app Why podcasters need to teach their audience how to download and tune into podcasts on their mobile device The current average number of active and inactive podcasts How to create viral-worthy content to promote your podcast episodes How to promote your podcast on podcast apps Social media sites that work best for promoting your podcast Using carousel Facebook ads to promote your show Marketing strategies you can use to promote your podcast What is a podcast avatar and why podcasters need to create one How to gain new ideas and inspiration for podcast topics from your audience The importance of testing different episode lengths to see what works best for your audience Using Facebook Live to help you increase your podcast downloads Getting feedback from your audience to use in your podcast episodes Including social proof metrics in the intro of your podcast episodes and how it can help you build authority What are Dynamic Ad inserts? Top 10 Takeaways from Podcast Movement 2018: Podcasting is growing. The podcasting landscape is changing. Videos are more likely to go viral than a podcast episode. You can advertise your podcast on podcast apps. Use Instagram, Insta Stories, and Facebook ads to advertise your podcast. Create a podcast avatar. The length of your episodes do not matter - but your audience might care. Increase your podcast downloads with complimentary activities. Add social proof elements to the intro of your episodes. Use Dynamic Ad inserts. Understanding the basics is foundational when learning a new skill or pursuing new undertakings. The first step before investing is to equip yourself with the basics of how investing works. It is crucial that you understand how investment returns are generated and how investors gauge and manage risks based on their investment objectives and time horizon.   “No matter what your time horizon or risk tolerance, you should never invest your money in something you do not understand.” - Tracey Bissett   Today, I’m sharing a micro-training on investment basics including the definition of some common investing and saving financial terms. I discuss what investment objectives are as well as the four main asset classes: 1) equities (i.e. stocks), 2) fixed income (i.e. bonds), 3) cash equivalents (i.e. money market instruments) and 4) alternative investments (i.e.: real estate, commodities and cryptocurrencies). I also talk about why it is crucial to know your risk tolerance and how to determine the best investment choice or decision for you.   “Everybody is going to have a unique perspective and something that you’re more comfortable with than someone else. This is why investing is a very personal decision.” - Tracey Bissett   This Week on Young Money: What is investing and the primary goal of each investor Definition of terms such as principal, capital, return, investor What compound interest is and why it is so desirable What diversification, risk tolerance and liquidity are The difference between a guaranteed vs. non-guaranteed investment What is an investor or investment risk profile The concept of time horizon defined and how one investor may have multiple time horizons The importance of understanding how various investment returns (interest, dividends and capital gains) will be taxed The four main asset classes How to assess your investment plan based on your time horizon and risk tolerance   Key Takeaways: Never invest your money in something you do not understand. It’s okay to say you are a beginner and you do not have a lot of investment knowledge, especially to the person you are going to be making investments with. It is their responsibility to help with your financial education so you can make great investment decisions. Never be afraid to ask questions. No question should be considered stupid or bad. Anybody who’s trying to sell you an investment should be prepared to commit the time to help you learn. Generally, if somebody cannot explain the investment to you in simple terms, it’s probably not the right thing for you or they may not be the right investment advisor for you. Invest with your brain and not with your emotions.  It is never too early or too late to start investing.   Resources Mentioned: Episode 4: An Annuity of Inspiration with Laura Beauparlant Episode 6: What are Your Intentions … Financially Speaking with Jackie Porter? #018 — [10x10] Core Value #6: What work looks like today is broken. The current version of work—the idea that we work in offices, that we work from 9 to 5, that we’re continuously productive throughout the day, at equal measures—there is overwhelming evidence that this isn’t true. Research shows that we aren’t effective in an 8-hour workday. We’re seeing the results of a broken workplace with the amount of people dropping out, the lack of diversity in the workplace, and more. Work is especially broken for women.
