It's time to get your stolen spaceship hurtling round the sun and going back in time to the 1980's with “Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home”!We're joined by our occasional editor and perpetual Pokémon expert, Reanna Reid-Lobatto, with some news about whales (and transparent aluminium). There's some impressive Shacting as Spock and the crew get up to hijinks in order to get whales going back to the future! Then we've got the second part of this ‘bus punk' duology with Picard's “Watcher”, where we're reminded why ICE should be abolished, Rafi is the most fun she's been in the show and Guinan's already fed up of JL!00:04:22 What Non-Star Trek Thing We've Been Enjoying: 00:13:32 Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home01:10:28 Picard: The WatcherTalking points include: Continuum, Dr Who, Ecco the Dolphin, Whale Song, Tavern Talk, Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuux, Final Girl, Top Gun, Karate Kid cosplay, the pronunciation of aluminium, the “I choose to stay” trope, is there no pizza in Star Trek's future?, Bester from Babylon 5, John Lithgow's acting career, Bill & Ted's poorly-aged comments, transparent aluminium facts! Temba, his arms wide!We have a new episode of Casual Trek for you and it's about language, no, not naughty language, although we're both British so we're VERY good at that. We're talking about times where language and communication have been important Trekian themes! First, everyone on Deep Space Nine is talking gibberish instead of Technobabble in ‘Babel' while in Strange New Worlds, Uhura's first away mission goes horribly awry when she has to communicate with the ‘Children of the Comet' and finally, we deal with one of The Next Generation's best episodes as we try and find out just who is Darmok and why was he at Tanagra in ‘Darmok.' Temba, at rest! Episodes Discussed: Babel (09:42), Children of the Comet (31:17) and Darmok (52:57)Talking Points Include: Catch-22, Sakamoto Days and the slow weebification of Charlie, Love Hurts, Sean Austin, is this Chief O'Brien's first worst day, Babel originally being a TNG script and how it would not have been as fun, the Odo/Quark dynamic, Kira having no time for BS, how irritating it must be to play a Vulcan sometimes, Sam Kirk is not this show's Kenny, does Strange New Worlds disregard Roddenberry's attitude to God? Uhura and Spock being friends, Miles misses Hemmer, when Spock thinks you ****ed up… you ****ed up! Troi's rather slim resume, Miles suffers the Darmok problem with UK-Specific references in the US, ‘Darmok' might be Star Trek's clearest descent into allegory, How ‘Darmok' inspired the scariest episode of Doctor Who, Picard's new jacket, Pedant's Corner: The Chuckle Brothers were a slapstick comedy duo popular on British children's telly. To me. To you. Rolf Harris was also a popular children's entertainer on British TV… until he was convicted on many charges of SA towards minors.Miles guesting on Famicom Dojo as Sean plays ‘Out of This World.' https://www.youtube.com/live/Ucv-hoyVmPU?si=hx_tb9k9qVCqZBMr
Better lock up your familial issues and not talk about things with your parents as we delve into possibly one of the worst fathers in Science-Fiction (at least this one has an excuse for emotional distance) as we talk about the most Vulcan of Vulcans, Spock (and Michael Burnham's and Sybok's) dad, Sarek. Is he well-meaning, or, as Miles believes, has definately eaten one of his own children like a Goya painting? Our first trip is to go Disco with ‘Lethe' as Michael Burnham discovers that her adopted dad has been offloading his guilt complexes onto her. Then in TOS' ‘Journey to Babel,' Kirk, McCoy and a whole bunch of alien delegates get caught between Spock and Sarek's personal drama and finally, in TNG's ‘Sarek,' Captain Picard faces a difficult choice with a man he so deeply admires and Patrick Stewart gets to indulge in ‘ACT-ING!'Live Long and Remember that a Family can just as much be a Found One as one you were Born into…Episodes Discussed: Lethe (07:12), Journey to Babel (31:39) and Sarek (58:00)Talking Points Include: The worst father's in Pop-Culture, Miles has been writing again HOORAY!, Charlie is playing A LOT of Super Mario Bros. Miles wants a ‘DISCO' shirt, CONTENT WARNING: Jokes on Baby Eatings, That weird thing with prequel shows when they talk about stuff that was a secret in the original show, Lorca is a shit, would Vulcans appreciate slapstick comedy? Fringe, how Miles' Britishness switches on a daily basis, we don't get enough Space Opera shows these days, an alien called Gav, We rate the strange aliens of ‘Journey into Babel' and how it might be one of the most Trek-like Trek episodes, does Wesley Crusher pull?, what is the slime for? Data pulling the ‘child upset his parents are fighting' trick with Picard and Riker, we don't get political… honest… Star Trek is apolitical, Picard wants more hijinks in his Diet, some actually good camera work in Trek.Pedant's Corner: Blatchington Mill is a High School in Brighton that Miles' mother definately felt was the runner-up to her wanting him to go to Dorothy Stringer (which he did)

Moopsy! As Lower Decks is back for the last time, we're looking at three animated Star Trek episodes, specifically ones about strange creatures. The Eye of the Beholder brings us weird dopey-looking elephant slug things who are actually more evolved than humans! A Tribble Called Quest brings us all kinds of mutant tribbles including a bizarre horrible Tribble with a face! Ugh… I Have No Bones, Yet I Must Scream brings us an adorable monster in Moopsy, who may have done one or two things wrong. You don't put the Scottish in a zoo, space zoos, Equilibrium, at some point Charlie should watch Star Trek, dunking on Chakotay, picking up a story partway through, Peter David's weird universal Majel Barrett thing, X-Men, I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream, Todd in the Shadows, Miles gets angry at Charlie, the show and himself for having to listen to Oliver Anthony Music, Anthony Michael Hall, self-destructive insubordination at work, bones and teeth aren't the same thing, Charlie's childhood rabbit and the little bunny gulag, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Nolan North, Vegeta & Goku workforce dynamics, trying to stop from having any Big Bang Theory rants, can you tell Charlie's vamping for time because he forgot who wrote I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream? Biondello tells Bianca and Lucentio that he's arranged for a priest to perform their marriage and sends them on their way as Gremio approaches. Petruchio, Kate and Vincentio arrive at Baptista's house and are greeted by the Pedant who (much to the real Vincentio's consternation) claims to be Lucentio's father. Biondello returns from the hasty marriage to find both the real and fake Vincentio with Baptista and is forced to pretend the Pedant is his master. As Vincentio berates Biondello for pretending not to know him, Tranio returns and tries to continue the ruse, claiming the Pedant is his father. Chaos ensues until Lucentio returns with Bianca. With no way out, Lucentio confesses all to his father. Vincentio, overjoyed to see his son alive, forgives him. Baptista accepts the marriage. Gremio accepts he's been beaten and joins the group for a free meal at Baptista's. Kate and Petruchio revel in their newfound love. After dinner, Petruchio challenges all the newly married men to see whose wife respects her husband the most. In the end, it's Kate who helps her husband win, ending the series with a speech about a woman's responsibility to her husband. Grumio taunts Katherine (as instructed by his master) until Petruchio and Hortensio arrive for dinner. Petruchio rushes Kate through her meal before welcoming a tailor and haberdasher who have made exquisite clothing for Katherine. Petruchio rejects all their offerings over Katherine's objections, but she begins to catch on to his strategy, realizing that she must play along with everything Petruchio does and be “agreeable” in order to get what she wants. Meanwhile, Biondello has primed Baptista for a visit from Tranio (disguised as Lucentio) and the Pedant (disguised as Lucentio's father, Vincentio). Baptista welcomes them and seals the deal for Lucentio to marry his daughter. On the road back to Baptista's home, Kate and Petruchio keep up their game of opposites until they are met by an old man who is making his way to Padua. He introduces himself as Lucentio's father (the real Vincentio). Petruchio embraces him as family, telling him that his son has just married the sister of his wife. Grumio reaches Petruchio's house ahead of the newlyweds and prepares the servants for their arrival. But nothing could brace them against Petruchio's abuse. He rejects the meals they've made and treats them so poorly that Kate implores him to be more patient. Petruchio insists they go straight to bed, where he lectures her on the virtues of abstinence. Meanwhile, as Tranio keeps up his Lucentio impersonation, Hortensio drops his “Litio '' persona and laments Bianca's affection for Cambio (the real Lucentio). Together, they renounce Bianca and Hortensio declares that he'll seek the affections of a wealthy widow. Free of Hortensio, Tranio celebrates with Bianca and Lucentio until Biondello arrives with the news that he's found a drunk Pedant who will be the perfect person to impersonate Luentio's father, Vincenzio. Tranio and Lucentio work up a plan to fool the Pedant into believing he's in danger in Padua because he's from Mantua but that he'll be safe if he pretends to be Lucentio's father. Star Trek's universe is bizarre and horrifying at times. Cosmic beings summon orcs to stab you in the back, alternate versions of your flagship get stuck in a wormhole, nonlinear entities get taught about time through memories of baseball, love and death. It's all a bit weird and we're going to revel in it today by talking about cosmic horror. Ships full of Vulcans get a rough time today, starting with The Immunity Syndrome where a space amoeba kills them and the rest of a solar system. Can the crew discover a solution when their energy and the ship's are rapidly dwindling? The next cosmic entity is Nagilum, who is self-aware, godlike and a real jerk! The Enterprise has to work out a solution to get this bastard off their back, but it might mean their own deaths! Wesley picks the best time to take a break from the Conn and we get some camera experiments to distract from this being a bottle episode. Finally we're back to tormenting a ship of Vulcans in Impulse, where they're driven into a mad, zombie-like rage! Not only are these T'Pol's old colleagues, but she's also infected. Can the crew survive until help comes? Also Trip & Mayweather get their fanciest gold spacesuits on to go all Minecraft on some asteroids. 00:01:33 What Non-Star Trek Thing We've Been Enjoying 00:15:02 Talking about Cosmic Horror 00:17:58 Star Trek: The Original Series “The Immunity Syndrome” 00:43:15 Star Trek: The Next Generation “Where Silence Has Lease” 01:11:03 Star Trek: Enterprise “Impulse” If anyone could do a cover of the Enterprise theme tune based on either the Donnie Darko “Mad World” or “Cotton Eye Joe” that would be amazing and we would give you a shout out for performing such madness. Talking points include: We literally only mention him once at the start, but of course Howie P Lovecraft gets a mention, Event Horizon, Space Battleship Yamato, Miles' guest appearance on Breakfast in the Ruins, The Coming of the Terraphiles, Star Wars The Acolyte, making The Force weird, the disappointment of The Book of Boba Fett, Hold the Front Page, Taskmaster, getting a bit political, Charlie tries to explain cosmic horror in 30 words and loses count, Bobby Davros, Bobby Davro, The Beatles, a redshirt who looks like a young Hugh Dennis, stuntmen called Dick, Babylon 5, Time Lord reproduction, Star Wars Expanded Universe, The Langoliers, power ballads, Rock Band (RIP), The Backrooms, Portal, Earl Boen, Terminator, anime references in Star Trek: TNG, Dirty Pair, Chris Claremont, Buffy, Ernest Kline deserves a kicking, Knightmare, Quentin Quire & Damian Wayne, a thematic trilogy, Impulse (the comic), the descent of the Black Eyed Peas, the most 2003 guest star on a track of music, Mad World, Annihilation, the Space War on Terror, Battlestar Galactica, Alias, 24, Lost, Eastenders, PUT JEFFREY COMBS IN DOCTOR WHO YOU COWARDS!, Space: 1999, Star Maidens. Oh, and occasionally Star Trek. Pedant's Corner: Miles left the country two years into the 14 years of Tory rule. Charlie's summary of cosmic horror was 22 words, so we both lost count. A student (and eligible bachelor) named Lucentio arrives in Padua with his servant, Tranio, to study philosophy. As they take in the sights they come across the wealthy Baptista and his two daughters, Bianca and Katherina. Bianca is trailed by two suitors, Hortensio and Gremio, who are vying for her affection. Baptista tells them that neither of them will win Bianca's hand until he marries off his older daughter, Katherina. Meantime, Baptista will keep Bianca at home, seen only by the tutors who he employs to advance her education. Hortensio and Gremio scheme to find a husband for the contrary Katherina. Lucentio, smitten by the beautiful Bianca, hatches a plan with Tranio to gain access to Bianca's house by changing clothes with his servant and posing as a tutor while Tranio pretends to be Lucentio in order to build Lucentio's social profile and entertain his father's guests. When Lucentio's other servant, Biondello, arrives, Lucentio tells him that he and Tranio switched clothes because he killed a man and has to escape the city. He tasks Biondello with waiting on Tranio and instructs him to refer to Tranio as Lucentio. Elsewhere, the self-assured Petruchio, along with his servant, Grumio, arrives from Verona at his friend Hortensio's house. Hortensio greets him warmly and learns from Petruchio that he's come to Padua to find a wife from a wealthy family. Hortensio tells him about Baptista's daughter, Katherina, but warns him about her ferocious temper. Petruchio is intrigued and vows to make Katherina his wife. Hortensio offers to facilitate the introduction provided Petruchio helps him pass for a music teacher so he can get access to Bianca.
It's the wicki wicki wild Wild West! We're putting on our worst cowboy voices and donning some coconuts so it sounds like we're on horseback as we go into the Holodeck or to worlds where things are suspiciously like The Ancient West. A Fistful of Datas has Worf resentfully taking his son to the Holodeck during downtime only for things to go awry after Data gets plugged into the ship. We also get Troi living her best life as a Western LARPer. The Spectre of the Gun puts the away team into a weird half-built Wild West set where they're the villains in a no-win scenario and Chekhov gets to romance an alien dream construct that looks like a woman. North Star is a good episode of Enterprise, where Archer, T'Pol and Trip have to deal with the descendents of Ancient West folks who were abducted by aliens centuries ago and are now oppressing the descendents of their captors. 00:06:32 - Westerns 00:16:28 - Star Trek TNG: “A Fistful of Datas” 00:37:16 - Star Trek TOS: “The Spectre of the Gun” 01:00:54 - Enterprise: “North Star” Somehow Charlie forgot to mention that instead of playing “Cowboys and Indians” as a kid, his father made him play “Christians and Heathens”. Welcome to Casual Tek, a podcast all about the prose of William Shatner! Is that not what we're doing here? Well, if only because we could use the name “Casual Tek” it is this time! After months of Charlie trying and failing to get a copy of TekWar he finally has one, so it's time for he and Miles to delve into William Shatner's attempt at a cyberpunk noir tale. We do some reading from the book and try to explain what TekWar's about, what the technology's like and then desperately want to take some Tek in order to forget this reading experience! Normal service will be resumed shortly as we'll be returning to Star Trek to ‘gift' each other an episode in time for Christmas. 0:00 - A Dramatic reading from the introduction of the book 23:32 - We actually start talking about TekWar 34:51 - Miles tries to explain TekWar From there we kind of go all over the place. In today's episode we're having a look at Worf, a character who's a rare series regular between two whole Star Trek shows. We wanted to have a look at some early stories of him in both TNG and DS9 and they both ended up being about bad actors wanting to ‘Make Qo'NoS Great Again' in their own ways. First we've got some rebellious Klingons making trouble in the Neutral Zone and Worf's first time being torn between his new friends and his work friends in “Heart of Glory”. Then we're over to some rash decisions from the Klingon Empire as they decide to invade Cardassia right after it's had a rebellion against its own government in “Way of the Warrior Parts 1 & 2”. This is a big, status quo changing episode with a lot of fun guest stars like friend of the pod Gul Dukat, Martok and the glorious eyes of Gowron. 0:19:39 TNG: Heart of Glory 0:49:49 DS9: Way of the Warrior Part 1 & 2 Just so you know Miles was beeping a little as the batteries on his explosive collar were running low. I edited around the beeps a lot, but there are a few still in there. - C Talking points include: our reasons for covering this episode, manifesting a god by having enough people scream at a road, The Exorcist, Brad Dourif being a moist serial killer, Brad Dourif being a good egg in Deadwood, Goodfellas (apparently that is Ray Liotta's real laugh), the works of M-Scoz, Kylie Minogue, Rick Astley, Bill Bailey's Klingonness, Blake's 7, Classic Doctor Who, The Simpsons, ValSpeak, Shenmue, Wing Commander, The Young Ones, Babylon 5, Red Dwarf, Brian K Vaughan, Mystique, Star Wars and space battles, event comics, and Gengar. It's time for Casual Trek and oh no… Earth's been infiltrated by aliens! Thanks to the generosity of Ko-Fi donor Cheryl, we're talking about aliens on Earth. We've got a Chakotay episode of DS9 where he might well bone down with a Species 8472. Also what the fuck is Pon'Far night? Then we've got the story of the real First Contact in Enterprise, with a cosy story about Vulcans living among us. Then we get decidedly un-cosy as Enterprise embraces the War on Terror era derangements of America and suffers from a bit of the old xenophobia just in time for our ship to get home. We also get some manpain from Captain Archer and Trip being encouraged to disrupt a Vulcan wedding. 13:53 Voyager “In the Flesh” 43:40 Enterprise “Carbon Creek” 1:13:45 Enterprise “Home” Talking points include: X-Files, They Live, Jaws, Yahoo Serious, Rabbit Proof Fence, Are Australian filmmakers alright?, Waking Fright, Muriel's Wedding, the Australian Ultraman Show, knifey spoony, Wanderhome, Holly by Stephen King, Classic Dr Who, Pink Floyd, Battlestar Galactica (2004), My Favourite Martian, X-Treme X-Men, Space: Above and Beyond, Lost, Quantum Leap, a horrific hypothetical Only Fools & Horses: The Nest Generation, The Truman Show, Dan O'Bannon, Coldplay, buskers, Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Riverdale, Twilight Zone, 52, Quantum Leap, Lord of the Rings, whatever happened to Robbie Williams?, that time Dr Samuel Beckett never returned home, Halo, Anakin Skywalker at a good event, a case of the Jack Bauers, quiet issues of X-Men, The Graduate, Manpain in Modern Dr Who. We've got our first guest star in today's episode as we get the nonstop machine of comics crowdfunding Matthew Hardy to join us in talking about the First Lady of Star Trek: Majel Barrett! Majel's been in so many episodes, hell, so many SERIES of Star Trek over the years, so there's a lot to work with here. We've got shockingly little Majel in the TOS episode that ostensibly is a spotlight focus on her. Then we're in to the wild world of Lwaxana Troi as she gets kidnapped by Ferengi in TNG and that version of the Ferengi are the absolute worst. Like Internet Guy worst. Finally we get a surprisingly nice pairing of Lwaxana and Odo stuck in a lift together as a weird life form from the Gamma Quadrant has got into the computers. 20:13 TOS: What Are Little Girls Made of? 48:37 TNG: Ménage a Troi 1:11:18 DS9: The Forsaken Talking points include: Westworld (both flavours), Babylon 5, Only Murders in the Building, Righteous Gemstones, Adam X the X-Treme, Ahsoka, Classic Dr Who, FMV PC games, Charlie's back on his Lost bullshit, From, Amnesiac City, Two time GLAAD award winner Peter Allan David, The Matrix, Terminator, I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, The UK Office amount of awkwardness, Shoggoths, Tiny Clangers, The Prisoner, Legion of Super-Heroes fashion, Mario Kart-based declarations of love, Vampire: The Masquerade, The Mos Eisley Cantina Band, Lucille Bluth, Lwaxana Troi going full Mrs Bennet, Picard giving it all Shakespeare, More Classic Dr Who, Lord of the Rings for the SNES, Gilmore Girls, Tamagochi, War of the Worlds. It's Miles' birthday and we're here to celebrate it with a thematic episode of Casual Trek. And you know what? It's also Charlie's birthday, so we're going to celebrate both hosts with a special episode dedicated to some of the most memorable Mileses and Charlies in Star Trek! Miles O'Brien is a fantastic member of not one but two crews in Star Trek and we'll get to see both those incarnations here, with The Wounded bringing us some reminders of O'Brien's military history. He also gets into some engineering hijinks helping out a lizard man in Captive Pursuit. Charlie X is a complete dirtbag and we're better off only having the one episode with him in.

Besserwisser. Prinzipienreiter. Pedant.

Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: Pedant, a type checker for Cost Effectiveness Analysis, published by Hazelfire on January 2, 2022 on The Effective Altruism Forum. Effort: About 80+ hours of dev work, and a little bit of writing. This project was done under a grant from EA Funds. I would like to give thanks to Ozzie Gooen, Nuño Sempere, Chris Dirkis, Quinn Dougherty and Evelyn Fitzgerald for their comments and support on this work. Intended Audience: This work is interesting for: People who do evaluate interventions, or want to get into evaluating interventions, as well as people looking for ambitious software engineering projects in the EA space. People looking to evaluate whether projects similar to Pedant are worth funding. Conflict of Interest: This report is intended as a fair reporting on the work I've currently done with Pedant, including its advantages and disadvantages. However, I would love to be funded to work on projects similar to Pedant in the future, with a bias to the fact that it's what I'm good at. So as much as I will try to be unbiased in my approach, I would like to declare that this report may have you see Pedant through rose coloured glasses. Tldr: I am building a computer language called Pedant. Which is designed to write cost effectiveness calculations. It can check for missing assumptions and errors within your calculations, and is statically typed and comes with a dimensional checker within its type checker. State of Cost Effectiveness Analysis When we decide what intervention to choose over another, the one of the gold standards is to be handed a cost effectiveness analysis to look over, showing that your dollar goes further on intervention A rather than B. A cost effectiveness analysis also offers the opportunity to disagree with a calculation, to critique the values of parameters, and incorporate and adjust other considerations. However, when looking at EA's CEAs in the wild, there are many things that are lacking. I'm going to detail what I see as problems, and introduce my solution that could help improve the quality and quantity of CEAs. The Ceiling of CEAs When taking a look at the CEAs that founded EA, particularly GiveWell's CEAs, as much as they are incredible and miles ahead from anything else we have, I can identify a collection of improvements that would be lovely to see. Before going further, I need to add the disclaimer that I'm not claiming that GiveWell's work is of low quality. What GiveWell has done is well and truly miles ahead of its time, and honestly still is, but that doesn't mean that there are some possible improvements that I can identify. Furthermore, I may have a different philosophy than GiveWell, as I would definitely consider myself more of a Sequence Thinker rather than a Cluster Thinker. The first and most clear need for improvement is that of formally considering uncertainty. GiveWell calculations do not consider uncertainty in their parameters, and therefore do not consider uncertainty in their final results. GiveWell's discussion of uncertainty is often qualitative, saying that deworming is “very uncertain”, and not going much further than that. This issue has been identified, and Cole Haus did an incredible job of quantifying the uncertainty in GiveWell CEAs. This work hasn't yet been incorporated into GiveWell's research. Considering uncertainty in calculations can be done within Excel and spreadsheets, and some (particularly expensive) industrial options such as Oracle Crystal Ball and @RISK are available. Currently, Guestimate is a great option for considering uncertainties in a spreadsheet like fashion, created by our own Ozzie Gooen. The next few issues are smaller and much more pedantic. When working with classical tools, it's very easy to make possible errors in calculations. Particularly, looking through GiveDirectly's Cost Eff...

The food writer and chef Olivia Potts joins the Slightly Foxed editors for a literary banquet. Olivia was a barrister for five years before enrolling at Le Cordon Bleu, becoming a cookery columnist on The Spectator and writing A Half Baked Idea, a memoir with recipes. From finding consolation in cooking and precision in pâtisserie to nostalgia-soaked blancmange and family dinners in the Cazalet Chronicles, the conversation flows, welcoming Jane Grigson, Elizabeth David, Charles Dickens and the extraordinary Fanny Cradock to the table along the way.
Jetzt.
(I want to write a very practical, “here, put these features in your software/do these projects/etc.” kind of write-up for various industries.) Most of the the innovations and responses - “digital transformation” are just getting better apps. Like, power companies that charge annually, my life insurance company with PDFs. E.g., Lemonade doing a claim for a Canadian Goose jacket for $979 in 3 seconds (https://www.lemonade.com/blog/lemonade-sets-new-world-record/), Zürich Insurance using AR with risk engineers (https://internetofbusiness.com/zurich-insurance-ai-iot-ar/)…Pivotal stories aplenty. The framing is basically (https://go.forrester.com/blogs/creating-the-cx-centric-utility/) “use these opportunities to reframe their relationship with the customer, leveraging the principles of customer experience and, in turn, will change their key processes and operations to deliver the CX-centric utility.” That is, better customer service, faster sales transactions (buying, whatever) with the customers, and easier research/comprehension (test out how long it takes you to find the details of benefits for your credit card - look up the price you pay for water - see what your total return on your retirement investing is, etc.). THIS IS ALL GREAT! BUT WHY SO HARD? (IS IT HARD?) My theory: this stuff isn’t hard, it just costs money and time. And just like developers don’t want to pay for anything, executives don’t want to pay for anything. Turns out, though, when you pay for something you get, you know, something.
Are you furthering the conversation productively? Or are you just being a pedantic brat?
After another transparent attempt at generating internet traffic, Warren explains his admiration for the Coors shotgun can, which persists in spite of his dislike for the beer itself. Find out how Warren does physiotherapy on himself to get ready for hockey, and the danger with three syllable words. You never know what's gonna happen! At least sometimes. SCENE I.Before an alehouse on a heathEnter HOSTESS and SLYSLY. I'll pheeze you, in faith.HOSTESS. A pair of stocks, you rogue!SLY. Y'are a baggage; the Slys are no rogues. Look in thechronicles: we came in with Richard Conqueror. Therefore, paucaspallabris; let the world slide. Sessa!HOSTESS. You will not pay for the glasses you have burst?SLY. No, not a denier. Go by, Saint Jeronimy, go to thy coldbedand warm thee.HOSTESS. I know my remedy; I must go fetch the third-borough.ExitSLY. Third, or fourth, or fifth borough, I'll answer him bylaw.I'll not budge an inch, boy; let him come, and kindly.[Falls asleep]Wind horns. Enter a LORD from bunting, with his trainLORD. Huntsman, I charge thee, tender well my hounds;Brach Merriman, the poor cur, is emboss'd;And couple Clowder with the deep-mouth'd brach.Saw'st thou not, boy, how Silver made it goodAt the hedge corner, in the coldest fault?I would not lose the dog for twenty pound.FIRST HUNTSMAN. Why, Belman is as good as he, my lord;He cried upon it at the merest loss,And twice to-day pick'd out the dullest scent;Trust me, I take him for the better dog.LORD. Thou art a fool; if Echo were as fleet,I would esteem him worth a dozen such. But sup them well, and look unto them all;To-morrow I intend to hunt again.FIRST HUNTSMAN. I will, my lord.LORD. What's here? One dead, or drunk?See, doth he breathe?SECOND HUNTSMAN. He breathes, my lord. Were he not warm'd withale,This were a bed but cold to sleep so soundly.LORD. O monstrous beast, how like a swine he lies!Grim death, how foul and loathsome is thine image!Sirs, I will practise on this drunken man. What think you, if he were convey'd to bed,Wrapp'd in sweet clothes, rings put upon his fingers,A most delicious banquet by his bed,And brave attendants near him when he wakes,Would not the beggar then forget himself?FIRST HUNTSMAN. Believe me, lord, I think he cannot choose.SECOND HUNTSMAN. It would seem strange unto him when he wak'd.LORD. Even as a flatt'ring dream or worthless fancy. Then take him up, and manage well the jest:Carry him gently to my fairest chamber,And hang it round with all my wanton pictures;Balm his foul head in warm distilled waters,And burn sweet wood to make the lodging sweet;Procure me music ready when he wakes,To make a dulcet and a heavenly sound; And if he chance to speak, be ready straight,And with a low submissive reverenceSay 'What is it your honour will command?'Let one attend him with a silver basinFull of rose-water and bestrew'd with flowers;Another bear the ewer, the third a diaper,And say 'Will't please your lordship cool your hands?'Some one be ready with a costly suit,And ask him what apparel he will wear;Another tell him of his hounds and horse,And that his lady mourns at his disease;Persuade him that he hath been lunatic,And, when he says he is, say that he dreams,For he is nothing but a mighty lord. This do, and do it kindly, gentle sirs;It will be pastime passing excellent,If it be husbanded with modesty.FIRST HUNTSMAN. My lord, I warrant you we will play our partAs he shall think by our true diligenceHe is no less than what we say he is.LORD. Take him up gently, and to bed with him;And each one to his office when he wakes.[SLY is carried out. A trumpet sounds]Sirrah, go see what trumpet 'tis that sounds-Exit SERVANTBelike some noble gentleman that means,Travelling some journey, to repose him here.
