What if your diet wasn't your identity… and your identity didn't rise or fall based on how well you followed a plan?In this episode, we talk about flexibility in a deeper way. Not adjusting macros. Not switching programs. But learning how to cultivate what actually works for you.So many of us were taught to borrow an identity from a diet. Weight Watcher, Keto, Vegan or Carnivore. Points or macro tracker. Clean eater. And when the plan stopped working, we felt like we failed. This conversation is about stepping out of that cycle. We explore how to separate who you are from what you eat, how to observe your own patterns with curiosity instead of judgment, and how to build a way of eating that adapts as your body, season, and life change.✨ In this episode, we talk about:Why diets quietly become identitiesHow flexibility restores personal authorityThe difference between following a plan and cultivating wisdomWhat it looks like to eat in alignment instead of complianceYou don't need a new label. You don't need a perfect framework. You need permission and skill to shape something that fits you.
In this episode, Mike talks about peptides which are growing in popularity. Not just GLP-1 medications but peptides for recovery, fat loss, muscle building, and more. I'm sharing something deeply personal. January is often filled with talk of fresh starts and motivation — but real life doesn't always follow that script. Over the last few weeks, my family has been living through the realities of dementia, loss, and grief, and I wanted to speak honestly about what that has meant for my health, my mindset, and my relationship with food. This episode isn't about perfection. It's about compassion, steadiness, and choosing not to abandon yourself when life feels overwhelming. In this episode, I talk about: Living through dementia and the loss of my dad The emotional weight of care, advocacy, and grief Why binge eating didn't return — even during intense stress Letting go of shame around weight gain Gentle, realistic intentions instead of pressure How creativity supports me right now Why health still matters — even (and especially) in grief If you've experienced dementia, loss, or a season where everything feels heavier than usual, I hope this episode helps you feel less alone. This podcast is free of editing because in life sometimes we have to take the rough with the smooth and not be afraid to show our messy parts. In this episode, Mike talks about whether strength training is an effective fat loss tool. There was a post recently on social media where a number of people commented that due to their autoimmune and / or hormonal conditions, that strength training was ineffective for fat loss. This episode will break down what's actually happening in those situations. ------------------------------------------------Click here to apply for coaching! For some amazing resources and to be a part of a badass community, join our FB group HEREThe personality assessment is now available online! Oprah Winfrey talked about her lifelong struggles with weight gain and yoyo dieting, and her GLP-1 journey. She insists she has an “obesity gene.” Health experts weigh in on her theory that obesity is predetermined by genetics. Spoiler: It has never been proven. “You don’t overeat and become obese; obesity causes you to overeat,” Oprah explained to the dimwits of “The View.” She’s framing obesity as a disease that must be treated, which is handy, seeing as she owns a minority stake in Weight Watchers, which now sells GLP-1s. Is Oprah selling surrender as science? Health and nutrition experts seem to think so. Wegovy now comes in a pill form, and the weightloss company is projected to make $1 billion over the next year. Also, shark attacks are making a comeback in Southern California. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this episode, Mike talks about a January reset but not the way you might be thinking. This isn't about a typical resolution to try harder or diet more. In fact, it's the opposite. It's about finally recognizing that the old ways don't work. Bonnie is a 63-year-old woman from the United States. She and her husband live in Oregon. She works full-time in an office setting. After being very thin throughout childhood and teen years, Bonnie first experienced the need to lose weight in her mid-twenties, following the birth of her first child. Like her mom before her, she used Weight Watchers to lose weight successfully, but could not sustain the program for very long or maintain the weight loss. Using that and numerous other methods, she was in a repetitive cycle of weight loss and regain more each time for decades. She first learned about IF in 2017 through Dr Jason Fung's book The Obesity Code. She found the science very convincing, and it helped her feel hope for a better health future than her family's. She started IF but couldn't make it stick. In 2020, she discovered the importance of Clean Fasting and tried a few more times with some success, but not yet with consistency. She felt frustrated and self-condemned for how far she had let herself go and for not having the fortitude to stick with anything. In January 2025, Bonnie turned the corner toward a better quality of life now and optimism about her future health when she committed to a life practice of IF. With consistent daily fasting and trying different fasting protocols, she found the groove thatworked best for her and lost over 50 lbs. She has been maintaining the loss for five months. She may adjust protocols, as needed, but believes IF will always be part of her life. She is not looking back. She continues to grow as a student of IF science, making better food choices, and adding strength training and intentional movement to her routine to help her age with strength. She enjoys the fasting community, learning from and sharing ideas andencouragement with others. Every January, millions of people make New Year's resolutions—and just as many abandon them weeks later. But where did this ritual come from? In this episode, Dr. Keith Sawyer traces the surprising 4,000-year history of New Year's resolutions, from ancient Babylonian vows to Roman civic promises, Christian moral reflection, early American self-engineering, and modern consumer culture. Along the way, he shows that resolutions were never inevitable or instinctive. They're a powerful example of collective creativity: a social tradition that slowly emerged as each generation added something new. Even when resolutions fail, we still grow from reflecting on our past and thinking about the future. Five Key Takeaways New Year's resolutions are a tradition that emerged over thousands of years. The earliest resolutions were about social trust, not self-improvement. In ancient Babylon, people made public vows to repay debts and keep promises to maintain social order. Christianity turned resolutions inward. Over time, public civic vows evolved into private moral commitments focused on personal character and self-examination. Modern resolutions were shaped by early American self-tracking--a science of the self. Figures like Jonathan Edwards and Benjamin Franklin treated the self as something that could be systematically improved through intention and measurement. Failure doesn't mean resolutions are pointless. Even when resolutions aren't fully kept, the act of reflection helps people clarify values, imagine future selves, and move toward personal growth. Chapters Intro Why do we make resolutions? Reflection and self-improvement. The First Resolutions: Babylon, 2000 BCE. Vows to the gods as public tools for social trust and stability. Rome Invents January 1. How Julius Caesar, Janus, and Roman vota reshaped the calendar and the meaning of promises. Christianity Turns Resolutions Inward. From public ritual to private moral self-examination. Jonathan Edwards Invents the Modern Resolution. Seventy intense resolutions and the birth of systematic self-engineering. Benjamin Franklin Tracks His Failures. Virtue charts, black dots, and the idea that character can be optimized. Newspapers Start Making Fun of Resolutions. By the 1800s, some people were already making fun of how often they failed. Radio and Psychology Take Over. How 20th-century media transformed resolutions into intimate self-help. Advertising Discovers Resolutions. When self-improvement became a January sales strategy for gym memberships and Weight Watchers. How to Make Resolutions that Stick. Research on resolutions: when they fail and what you can do to be more likely to succeed. Collective Creativity. Resolutions are a social innovation that emerged over the centuries. What actually makes a brand break through and stay relevant long after the hype fades? I wanted to explore that question with someone who sees behind the scenes of real growth, not just what looks good online. In this episode, I sit down with Emily Hickey to talk about what performance marketing really means, why specificity matters more than volume, and how the smartest brands focus on what is already working instead of chasing every new idea. We get into product positioning, influencer strategy, why hero products matter, and how marketing decisions connect directly to identity and behavior. We also talk about fitness, discipline, GLP-1 medications, and why building a business often forces you to build yourself at the same time. Emily Hickey is the co-founder and CEO of Chief Detective, a performance marketing agency working with leading consumer brands across Meta, Google, and social platforms. She also advises companies like Goop and Weight Watchers, helping leadership teams think clearly about growth, positioning, and longevity. In today's episode, I'm sharing an update I never thought I'd be able to say out loud: it's now around four years since I last ate chocolate, cakes or sweets. I'm talking about where my binge eating started, how sugary foods became my comfort and my reward, and why nothing I tried could touch those cravings for long. I walk you through the turning point during my hypnotherapy training – the deep emotional release that shook my whole body, the work we did on repressed fear, and the specific hypnosis that made chocolate and sweets taste unbearably sweet. From that point on, I simply couldn't eat them in the same way again, and my relationship with food began to shift for good. I also share honestly about choosing to take the Mounjaro jab in 2025 . I explain what it did to my hunger and “food noise”, the side effects I noticed when I increased my dose, the weight I lost, and why I decided to come off it before reaching a final goal weight. This episode is for anyone who feels ruled by cravings, is curious about hypnosis, or worries what life looks like after stopping a weight loss jab. Anita, 67 years old, has lost about 150 pounds. She was overweight as a toddler and spent the vast majority of her life being morbidly obese. Anita began her dieting 'career' at age 12 when her Mom brought her to a Weight Watcher's meeting. After that, it was decades of yo yo dieting and trying every new thing that came out. In her early 50's, weighing about 320 lbs, Anita started low carb (Atkins type diet), then found keto and then found carnivore. In this, Anita has a purpose in life and that is to make sure that both men and women who are her age and have given up on life can hear that it is never too late. She achieves this by sharing cooking recipes on youtube (KetogenicWoman), as well as info that she hopes is educational and informative on a weekly livestream. Anita is currently writing a book 'Carnivore for Ageless Living' that will be published hopefully in late 2026. Anita is on zero medications, has no health issues other than arthritis in her left knee. She even cancelled her scheduled knee surgery and has been managing her pain by following a clean diet of meat, eggs and sardines!
