On Sunday, John-Mark started our Lent series "Praying with Jesus" with a sermon titled "What God Wants to Give." What can we learn about prayer from Jesus' words and his example as recorded in the Gospels? Jesus continues to be intimately involved in our experience of prayer as our Great High Priest (He 4:14-16). Whenever and however we pray, it's always with Jesus! What is it about our tribe that we need to make sure it is clear that we are right and everyone else is wrong? What I mean by our tribe is Bible believing, church going, evangelicals who say that we agree with Jesus on everything that He said being right and true. Just so that there is no misunderstanding about what I mean by the word our, I want to be clear that I am including myself in my question about our tribe. Let me begin by acknowledging and confessing some things that I know to be true about myself. I have some very strong convictions about some things. I hold to certain convictions that I hold to that if my heart and mind are left unchecked, I can come off sounding like an arrogant, know-it-all jerk. There are certain convictions that are good for all people and there are convictions that are good for you. When it comes to convictions, I believe there are three categories every person has: There are convictions that I have that I believe we need to have. There are convictions that I have that I believe you should There are convictions that I have that I believe are good for me to have. Convictions that are of primary importance are convictions that are so important that to reject those convictions or ignore them is detrimental to biblical orthodoxy (right belief) and orthopraxy (right practice). Some examples of primary convictions include: The origin of the universe, the inerrancy of the Bible as Holy Scripture, the person and work of Jesus Christ (his virgin birth, his suffering, crucifixion, and resurrection), the second coming of Christ to judge the living and the dead, the person and work of the Holy Spirit, and the teaching that God is One and yet three persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) while existing as one God (aka the Trinity). Secondary issues I hold with an open hand because being wrong on such things does not affect my faith and salvation, nor do they have eternal consequences. Some secondary issues are really important, and you should hold to some level of conviction regarding them. Secondary convictions may be over topics and matters the Bible does address such as the timing of Jesus second coming, leadership roles for men and women in the church, and even the age of the universe. Then there are those convictions we have that come out of a third category primarily related to issues of conscience that the Bible is not as clear about. In Pauls day it was over the use and consumption of discounted meat that came from animals sacrificed to idols. I heard a quote referenced by Tara Leigh Cobble that I really like and believe to be great advice: Dont shout where scripture whispers and dont whisper where scripture shouts. This sermon is not about secondary or tertiary level convictions, but it is about what God primarily wants for your life. What is it that God wants for your life? We are told in the verses leading up to James 1:19. Here are some of the verses that clue us into what God wants for your life: God wants your faith to endure: Consider it all joy, my brothers and sisters, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. (Jas. 1:24) God wants you to live wisely: But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. (Jas. 1:5) God wants you to walk humbly: Now the brother or sister of humble circumstances is to glory in his high position; but the rich person is to glory in his humiliation, because like flowering grass he will pass away. (Jas. 1:910) God wants you to pursue Him in holiness: Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. (Jas. 1:12) Listen to What God Wants to Teach You (vv. 19-21) What does it mean to be offended? Based on the English dictionary, to be offended is to be insulted, hurt, or upset. If I understand the Christian life and how it is that God brings change in our lives, it seems to me that for God to accomplish what He needs to in my life, He must insult my assumptions, wound my ego, and upset the trajectory of my life. Jesus said, And this is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the Light; for their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light, so that his deeds will not be exposed (John 3:19-20). Jesus said that for a person to be born again light must invade and overcome spiritual darkness; for that to happen, God must insult, hurt, and upset a persons life so that they can go from spiritual death to spiritual life! In James 1:18, we are told: In the exercise of His will He gave us birth by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits among His creatures. The word of truth includes the gospel of Jesus Christ, but it is also all of Gods written Word. We know this because of the way verses 22-27 describe how God uses His word to change and shape the lives of His people. Spiritual life and new birth cannot happen apart from the good news of Jesus Christ; in Romans 1:16, Paul wrote of the gospel: For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. What is the gospel? It is this: Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures (1 Cor. 15:1-4). What James states in verse 19 is primarily how it is that God uses His word in the lives of His people to live and finish well. Why does God want this for your life? Well, again, in verse 18, God used His word (the gospel) so that we can become born again, so that we would be a kind of a first fruits among His creatures (v. 18). Here is the thing about first fruits: The Israelites were commanded to give God the first fruits of their crops which was the best of their crops. If you are a Christian, you are Gods first fruits, which means you are of great value to Him, and what He wants for you is to thrive as His child! How one thrives as a child of God begins with James 1:19! Be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger... What does it mean to be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger? Be quick to listen to what God has to say... period. Be slow to speak your mind... because God has already spoken. Because God has spoken, and your opinions and perspective do not carry the same weight... be slow to anger by swallowing your pride. What He has said is what ultimately matters! What God wants for you is so much more than the time you have remaining with your vapor-like mortal life; this is why James wrote four chapters later: Come now, you who say, Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit. Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. For you are just a vapor that appears for a little while, and then vanishes away (Jas. 4:1314). What does He want for you? Salvation, for you to stand in His wisdom, for you to walk in Christs humility, for His word and the Spirit to produce holiness in you! God uses His word to form and shape His people through the power of His Holy Spirit. To listen to His word intently will mean that you must let Gods word challenge your assumptions about who He is, how you live your life, and the world you live in. This is why we must be both slow to speak and slow to anger. What does that mean? Well, if you do not like what Gods word says because of what you would like Gods word to say, you must yield your life, heart, and soul to it. When the word of God confronts you, when it challenges your assumptions, and when it calls you to action, your best course of action is to yield knowing that God wants to accomplish His good will in and through your life for your joy and His glory. This is how you address, ...all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness in your life. This will not happen in your life if you are passive about His word. Learn to Apply What God Wants for You (vv. 22-24) How can you become quick to hear? How do you become slow to speak? You do so by apply Gods word to your life. You do so by humbly yielding to the authority of Gods word over your life (v. 21). You do so by becoming a doer of the word, and not just a hearer of the word. Now you may be asking: But I thought James 1:19 just told us to be quick to listen to Gods word? James does say that, for that is where we must begin, but listening to the word of God does us no good if we are not going to do what it says by applying it to our lives. Being quick to listen to Gods word is both important and necessary, but to listen to it only is like the person, ...who looks at his natural face in a mirror; for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was. Mirrors are good, but looking into a mirror in the morning will not fix your hair, brush your teeth, or fix whatever needs fixing before you head out the door in the morning. The point of a mirror is to show you what you need to do. When you read your Bible, it is telling you what to do, but if your response to reading it is only to read it, then you are like the fool who agrees with what the mirror reveals but does nothing about what he sees. To be quick to listen is to be slow to speak because you are more concerned about doing something about what you heard from Gods word! This is why James does not end with verse 24, but continues to verses 25-27, But one who has looked intently at the perfect law, the law of freedom, and has continued in it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an active doer, this person will be blessed in what he does. If anyone thinks himself to be religious, yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this persons religion is worthless. Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world. (Jas. 1:2527) One pastor said of James epistle: He doesnt want to know the words you heard on Sunday unless they resulted in action on Monday. If anyone thinks he is religious, his Christianity must be practical (1:26). Vertical worship must have horizontal expression. Your faith must be seen in your conversation, your compassion, and your conduct.[1] What is the word of God? The word of God is, living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, even penetrating as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart (Heb. 4:12). What is the word of God? The word of God is, inspired by God and beneficial for teaching, for rebuke, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man or woman of God may be fully capable, equipped for every good work (2 Tim. 3:16-17). So, dear Christian, what are you going to do with what you have heard? What are going to do with the word of God every time you hear it? God wants to use it along with the power of His Holy Spirit for your endurance, to grow you in living your life wisely, to humble you for the purpose of forming in you a Christ-like character, and to move you towards the kind of holiness He saved you for and is calling you towards. Conclusion Now, listen carefully. You should care deeply about the primary things the Bible addresses and you should care about what others believe about such things like who God is, the person and work of Jesus Christ, the inspiration and authority of Gods word, and what the Bible says about why Jesus came and what it means to follow Him. We should and must care about all that the Bible teaches and we should care about whether people have heard about the gospel of Jesus Christ. We should care enough about what the word of God says that we desire and are willing to humble ourselves for the purpose of yielding our lives to what it says. We should care about being doers of Gods holy word in all that we say and do. But... and this is a big BUT... When it comes to matters of conscience concerning what you think about third tiered matters that rightly have pricked your conscience, but the Spirit of God has not done the same in my life... what matters is what God has said about it, not so much what Keith Miller or anyone else has said about it. Now in saying that, it is good and charitable to listen more and talk less when we are discussing matters of conscience. What I mean is that instead of assuming the worst about a persons convictions it would be good to listen to why and how that person has arrived with his/her convictions. It is also wise and charitable to recognize some of your convictions are good for you, but the Spirit of God may not have moved in a similar way in your brother/sister in Christ who loves the same Jesus as you do. Just because someone does not agree with you does not mean that person is against you. Permit me to share with you two sets of Gods word that ought to guide every conversation you have about your convictions or the convictions of another brother or sister in Christ: Love is patient, love is kind, it is not jealous; love does not brag, it is not arrogant. It does not act disgracefully, it does not seek its own benefit; it is not provoked, does not keep an account of a wrong suffered, it does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; it keeps every confidence, it believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. (1 Cor. 13:47) The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Now those who belong to Christ Jesus crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, lets follow the Spirit as well. Lets not become boastful, challenging one another, envying one another. (Gal. 5:2226) At the end of the day, who cares what you think about Donald Trump, what you think of Joe Biden, what you think about this thing or that thing. What you think about who said what or what network is better than the other network. At the end of the day your opinions are just that... opinions. What matters is what has God said about it and what you are going to do with what He has said. In closing, let me share something with you that God said that you really should apply to your second and third tier convictions before you feel the desire or need to share those convictions with others: Who among you is wise and understanding? Let him show by his good behavior his deeds in the gentleness of wisdom. But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not be arrogant and so lie against the truth. This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, natural, demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil thing. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peace-loving, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial, free of hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. (James 3:1318) [1] Tony Evans, The Tony Evans Bible Commentary (Nashville, TN: Holman Bible Publishers, 2019), 1340.

#230 It's easy to be confused about our life's purpose by all the negative and disheartening news from around the world. It's also easy to mistake the idea that we've reached our peak evolution through humanity's rapid technological advancements. For thousands of years, humanity has fought over who and what God is. But what if it's none of that, and our beliefs about God are creating the chaos and suffering we're seeing in the world today. In this fascinating episode, bestselling author, Neale Donald Walsch will help us remember the fundamentals. It's important to look at your own skills, talents, and experiences and trust that the divine has plans to put them to use in a way that will serve a higher good, as it did with Neale. Interestingly, right before his book, Conversations with God, sold millions of copies, Neale's life was certainly not a bestseller, as it was falling apart. He had been laid off, had major marriage issues, and suffered health problems that all led to him living on the sidewalk for an entire year (you read that right). It wasn't until a miracle part-time job that he started to regain some semblance of a life with shelter, food, and a little bit of money. It was during this time that he started venting his anger to God in written form. In pure anger and frustration, he asked questions like "Why me?" and “What do you want from me? What does it take to make life work?" Then something incredible happened, Neale heard a voice that jokingly said, "Do you really want the answers?" From then on, he took dictation and wrote down what he was hearing, and started a paper dialogue. The rest is publishing history. Neale will graciously teach us how we can flourish as we live the human experience through our divine connection with God. He will demonstrate how we can find our way back to our soul connection, and tune into the infinite intelligence that will ground us and move us toward love and fearless living. It's a gift to share this interview, and I hope it brings you increased peace, spiritual connection, compassion, and awareness of who you really are. Neale's work has taken him from the steps of Macchu Picchu in Peru to the steps of the Shinto shrines of Japan, from Red Square in Moscow to St. Peters Square in Vatican City to Tiananmen Square in China. And everywhere he has gone, from South Africa to Norway, Croatia to The Netherlands, the streets of Zurich to the streets of Seoul, Neale has experienced a hunger among the people to find a new way to live, at last, in peace and harmony, and he has sought to bring people a new understanding of life and of God which would allow them to experience that. Key Points Discussed: Searching For Spiritual Meaning (00:00) The desire that drives him to tirelessly help people globally. (00:04) Defining God: How Neale describes God from his own understanding. (03:47) Why there's so much evil in the world despite 85% of humanity believing in a higher power. (06:55) Stepping into your purpose by abandoning survival as a fundamental instinct. John 15:1–11I. What God Wants —> Much Fruit & Full JoyII. What God Provides —> His Word & PrayerIII. Our Godly Response —> Obedience
A renowned man of God said, 'We like to IMAGINE ourselves a RACE of rugged individuals- ( men of steel). The truth is, we HATE to appear DIFFERENT lest we be OSTRACISED, branded FANATICS and REJECTED. So, we CONFORM. You will see it in the CHILD eager to PLEASE; the ADOLESCENT aligning with PEER PRESSURE; the ADULT breaking their BACK to keep up with the JONESES.' Just being DIFFERENT for its own sake is LIKELY to be WORTHLESS, even counterproductive. WHAT God WANTS from US is our WILLINGNESS to be radically TRANSFORMED. 'Therefore, l urge you...to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God- this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind' (vv. 1-2 NIV). Here are TWO important OBSERVATIONS to HELP you reach that goal: FIRST: Transformation BELONGS to believers. The UNBELIEVER can't BREAK the WORLD'S control over them WITHOUT Christ, but believers are promised: '...the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world' (1John 4:4 NLT). God's INDWELLING Spirit ENABLES you to resist the WORLD'S pressure to CONFORM you to its WAYS. SECOND: God's appeal is urgent. 'l urge you, brothers.' Words like beg, plead, beseech are used in some translations because the appeal isn't secondary or OPTIONAL. It's VITAL, a divine imperative! God is seeking for SURRENDERED vessels that are ready to be TRANSFORMED for His USE. Are you willing to say, 'Yes, Lord, use me'? God's servant Rev Alfred Acheampong. Prayer Points: Heavenly Father continue to transform me with Your word of truth and make me usable for your service in Jesus name. Anchor Scripture: 'DO NOT BE CONFORMED...BUT BE TRANSFORMED...' (Romans 12:2 NKJV) Stay Blessed! YearOfSupernaturalProvision

During His EARTHLY MINISTRY Jesus needed 'the Spirit of wisdom' when it CAME to making DECISIONS and DEALING with the ENEMY. As believers, that same Spirit lives in us. James 3:15 NKJV says there are three kinds of wisdom: Earthly wisdom, which isn't always dependable because 'Sometimes what seems right is really a road to death' (Proverbs 16:25 CEV). Sensual wisdom, which is based on emotions that can lead to confusion, hurt, and jealousy. Demonic wisdom, which is selfish, lustful, and ungodly. Godly wisdom, which '...[comes] from above is...pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and...hypocrisy' (James 3:17 NKJV). Spirituality is a vital component of ones well-being. Having a connection to something bigger than ourselves is essential in finding peace within ourselves and to have a deeper connection with all living things. Humanity has struggled with deciding what this connection is and depending on what you choose to guide you in your spirituality there are over 4,000 religions being followed on this planet. Whether you are religious or spiritual there is a common ground that we all need to find when it comes to the connection that we all share. If you can find it for yourself it can be life changing and bring you closer to who you are and the role you play on your journey. The Doctor Dads sit down with Neil Donald Walsch and discuss this predicament we are in as a collective and how we need to evolve our idea of what connects us all and in doing so shift the very world we live in into something better for humanity as we move forward. Neale Donald Walsch is a modern day spiritual messenger whose words continue to touch the world in profound ways. With an early interest in religion and a deeply felt connection to spirituality, Neale spent the majority of his life thriving professionally, yet searching for spiritual meaning before experiencing his now famous conversation with God. The Conversations with God series of books that emerged from those encounters has been translated into 37 languages, touching millions and inspiring important changes in their day-to-day lives. Neale has written 39 books on spirituality and its practical application in everyday life. Titles in the With God series include: Conversations with God, Books 1-3; Friendship with God; Communion with God; The New Revelations; Tomorrow's God; What God Wants; and Home with God. Seven of the books in that series reached the New York Times Bestseller List, CWG-Book 1 occupying that list for over two-and-a-half years. His most recent books are When Everything Changes Change Everything (2010), The Storm Before the Calm (2011), The Only Thing That Matters (2012), What God Said (2013), GOD'S MESSAGE TO THE WORLD: You've God Me All Wrong (2014), and Conversations with God: Awaken the Species (Book 4) (2017). His newest book is The God Solution, was published in December, 2020 by Phoenix Books. Conversations with God has redefined God and shifted spiritual paradigms around the globe. In order to deal with the enormous response to his writings, Neale has created several outreach projects, including the CWG Foundation, CWG for Parents, Humanity's Team, the CWG Helping Outreach, and The Global Conversation --- all accessible at the “hub” website www.CWGPortal.com, and all dedicated to help the world move from violence to peace, from confusion to clarity, and from anger to love. Neale's work has taken him from the steps of Macchu Picchu in Peru to the steps of the Shinto shrines of Japan, from Red Square in Moscow to St. Peters Square in Vatican City to Tiananmen Square in China. And everywhere he has gone --- from South Africa to Norway, Croatia to The Netherlands, the streets of Zurich to the streets of Seoul --- Neale has experienced a hunger among the people to find a new way to live, at last, in peace and harmony, and he has sought to bring people a new understanding of life and of God which would allow them to experience that. Jesus: the Reason We Celebrate Guest: Barbara Rainey From the series: Rebooting Christmas (Day 2 of 2)Air date: November 27, 2012 Bob: Are we getting Christmas right? Barbara Rainey says, “Maybe not.” Barbara: So many people, even if they don't know Christ, they do know that something is not right with the way we celebrate Christmas; they do know that the commercialism and the focus on all the stuff is wrong; they know it's too much; and they don't know why, and they don't know what it is. So I think that it would be very easy to approach a neighbor and say, “We're really trying, in our family, to make the focus of Christmas about what it's all about.” I think people will get it even if they don't totally understand it; because I think we all know that it's—the whole system is not quite right. Bob: This is FamilyLife Today for Tuesday, November 27th. Our host is the President of FamilyLife®, Dennis Rainey, and I'm Bob Lepine. The Bible says the heavens declare the glory of God. What if your Christmas tree did the same thing? We'll talk about that today. And welcome to FamilyLife Today. Thanks for joining us on the Tuesday edition. I almost didn't expect to see you here today. I thought your wife, Barbara, would be here again, as she is; but I thought maybe you'd still be home unpacking boxes. Dennis: Pulling boxes out of the attic, all the ornaments, all the Christmas trappings. Bob: ‘Tis the week to decorate the house. Dennis: Yes, it is. Barbara: Yes, except that he doesn't unpack the boxes; he merely carries them into the house. Bob: And then goes and turns on the game. Dennis: No, no, that's not true. (Laughter) We used to have—we used to have some kids to help her; but now, it's just us. We have— Bob: Now, it's the old mule. (Laughter) Get the old mule out. Dennis: As my mom used to say, “The old gray mare, she ain't what she used to be.” (Laughter) But it is a fun time of the year, and all these trappings of Christmas all carry meaning with them; and that's really what we wanted to talk with listeners about today—is the meaning of Christmas and helping you truly celebrate the reason for the season. Bob: One of the reasons that Barbara is here with us is because of some work she's been doing over the last several months on developing resources for families to use at Christmas. I'm wondering, looking at some of these resources—our listeners know that Thanksgiving has always been your favorite holiday. I'm just wondering if Christmas is starting to edge in on the competition here. Barbara: Well, I wouldn't say it's edging in on the competition as far as the experience. I still love Thanksgiving because our family is usually around; but I love Christmas because—all of us love Christmas. I loved Christmas as a child and couldn't wait for Christmas, as a child growing up. I remember—the interesting memory that I have, or one of the interesting memories that I have as a child, is I remember watching friends of mine who were Catholic who would go to Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve; and I used to think, “What do they do? What are they learning? What are they hearing? What am I missing out on?”—because there was something that said to me, “That was meaningful,” and I wanted something meaningful in our Christmas celebration. We didn't do a lot as a family, and we didn't talk about it a lot. I remember as a kid longing for that. I knew there was more to the Christmas celebration that we had in my house growing up as a child than there was. I mean I kept looking at these other people thinking, “What am I missing? What else should there be?” Bob: It's interesting as you mention that. I'm thinking back to Christmas as a child where the focus of Christmas on Jesus really only came through in carols we sang or heard on the stereo— Dennis: Yes, right. Bob: —or what might get talked about in church. Barbara: Exactly. Bob: Other than that, it was mostly presents—that was what I was locked in on— Barbara: Yes, me too. Bob: —or decorations or activities or parties—whatever was going on. I don't remember a whole lot of spiritual focus in our house growing up. Was there much in yours? Dennis: Not a lot. In fact, one of the highlights of our Christmas was—and some of our listeners will find this kind of odd—but we used to wrap joke packages. My mom and I would go upstairs to kind of Santa's workshop. And on Christmas Eve, my mom and I would get so tickled, we would have tears streaming down our faces at these really dumb gifts that we were wrapping for various members of the family that we would put under the tree. We would not put a “To: Gary,” my brother, “From: Dennis”. It wouldn't have any from. It would say, “From: Santa.” It was just having fun, but I longed—just like Barbara was talking about—I really longed for those more spiritual moments that you would see sometimes in the movies that surrounded Christmas that did have the carols, the Christmas carols that were being sung about Christ. I know when we became parents, one of the things that we talked a great deal about was how could we as a mom and dad with our six children make Christmas focused upon the birthday celebration of the King of kings and Lord of lords, how God became flesh and dwelt among us. I'd have to say, Bob, I would give Barbara and me probably a C-minus, maybe a D-plus. We just didn't find a lot of good ways to do that. One of the things we had was a nativity set made of olive wood that I had gotten as a single man when I went to Israel back in 1971. Now, we had that, and the kids would get the baby Jesus out and put Him in the manager on Christmas Eve; but we didn't really have a great way of celebrating the true meaning of Christmas with our kids—and really as a result, didn't do a good job of leading them spiritually around the real meaning of Christmas. Bob: Barbara, in volleyball terms, holidays are kind of a set to the spike. It's like the calendar gives you an opportunity— Barbara: It does. Bob: —as a parent to do something more comfortably than you might otherwise do it—to talk about the birth of Jesus, to talk about His death, burial, and resurrection around Easter. And Deuteronomy 6 is a clear call to parents to take those naturally-occurring moments in our lives and in our days to engage with our kids around spiritual issues. Barbara: Exactly, and I think that this passage in Deuteronomy is a good reminder to all of us as parents, or as grandparents for that matter, that we've all been commanded to teach. All of us as believers, men and women, we've all been commanded to teach. It says in there, Moses commanded the people— “These words that I command you today shall be on your heart.” So, the first place that the truth of Scripture needs to reside is in our hearts. It starts with us as individuals. So, moms and dads need to know what they believe, and they need to embrace that faith and that truth of Scripture; but then, he says, “You shall teach them diligently to your children.” So, it starts with us. We're the first place where the truth has to reside. Then, we take that truth, and we teach it to our children. The problem is most of us as parents don't know how to do that. We don't know how to take what we believe and what we know and transfer it to our children; but that's the instruction we've been given. We are to diligently teach our children. Then it goes on to say, “And you shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.” So, in other words, constantly—in and out of the house, as you go, as you are up awake, and as you're lying down to go to sleep. It's supposed to be a part of the fiber of your life as a family. For most of us, one of the opportunities that we have to do that is holidays because holidays are a fiber, an important thread, through all of our lives year after year after year. Let me finish really quickly the other portion of this verse that I think is really helpful. It says, in verse 8, “You shall bind them as a sign in your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.” Then, in verse 9, it says, “You shall write them on the doorpost of your house and on your gates.” So, if you think about these verses, there is a progression from my heart as a mom, my husband's heart as a dad—it starts with us. Then, we teach it to our children, and we talk about it in our houses. Then, we put it on our doorposts. The doorpost is the doorframe around the front door or the back door of your house. Then, you put it on your gate. So, there is a progression from me to my kids in my house—the doorpost around my house and the gate that surrounds my house. So God wants us to take the truth that we own and we possess and we believe and teach it, but also to proclaim it. We talk a lot at FamilyLife about knowing the truth and experiencing it and applying it, but also proclaiming it. One of the things that I have a real passion to do is help moms and dads not only teach the truth to their children, but give them ways that they can practically proclaim that truth to their neighbors and their friends and people who come and go in and out of that front door, or in and out of that gate—there will be messages of faith to those who come into your house and go out of your house. Bob: We've already talked this week about a new resource that you've developed for Christmas, a new set of Christmas tree ornaments. We call them Adorenaments® that take seven Christmas names of Jesus, and they are stamped in metal to be hung and displayed on a Christmas tree. As you're talking about the frontlets of your house and the door-gate, I guess you could hang some of these out there if you wanted to as well; but you could also use these ornaments as gifts to give to neighbors, to teachers, to folks. Barbara: Exactly. Bob: I mean, at Christmastime, we're always looking for some way to meaningfully bless people around us. These ornaments could be a great way to do that. Barbara: Exactly. It's one of the reasons we've packaged them individually as well as in a set of seven because all of us have people that we want to give something to at Christmas; and most of us who are believers want to give something meaningful. So, we have individually packaged names of Christ that you can give to a teacher, that you can give to the postman, that you can give to a neighbor. Let's face it: Most people are more open to hearing the truth about Jesus at Christmas than any other time of the year. I mean think about it. We walk into stores that are playing Christmas carols. The names are on—some of the truths about Jesus are on holiday cards, greeting cards. So, I think there's a greater receptivity around Christmas to hearing the truth about who Jesus is. So in these Adorenaments, we're hoping that, not only will families buy them and display them on their own trees or put them on a wreath on your front door or all kinds of other ways you can use them; but that families will also buy some of the individual ones and have an opportunity to share your faith with your neighbor or with someone else by giving them one of the names of Christ. Dennis: It occurred to me as Barbara was creating these, Bob—because she has really, for all practical purposes been working on this project for nearly two years. These are high-quality metal, stamped names with glitter and really a special lacquer and coating on these Adorenaments— I thought, “You're literally going to make it possible, Sweetheart, for someone to take the names of Christ next door to a neighbor and share Him with a neighbor”—perhaps, that you've been trying to think of a way, “How can I talk to my neighbor?” Taking a plate of cookies by itself is nice and it's certainly sweet; but if you took a plate of cookies and on top of the plate of cookies— Barbara: Exactly. Dennis: —you had one of these names, “Savior”, “Mighty God”, “Prince of Peace”, “Wonderful Counselor”, “Emmanuel”. “Jesus” is one of the names—one of the Christmas names. I just think it's going to be a fun way for a lot of people to truly share Christ this Christmas. Then, double back, maybe before Christmas, maybe after Christmas, it might be a couple of weeks later; you might just double back and say, “What did you think of the ornament I gave you? That's really the reason why we just celebrated Christmas.” Our desire is to help families reach out to other family members, friends, associates at work, and make Jesus Christ relevant where they live. Bob: Well, even in sharing the ornament with a neighbor, I could see you saying, “You know at our house I've just had a conviction that we need to be more focused on what Christmas is really all about. That's why I've gotten these for myself, and I thought I'd share them with you.” That's not threatening. That's not—you're not— Dennis: Right. Bob: —pressing anything with anybody but you have the opportunity to plant a seed; and who knows how God would use that? Barbara: Well, and I think what you just said, Bob, is really true. I think that so many people, even if they don't know Christ, they do know that something is not right with the way we celebrate Christmas. They do know that the commercialism and the focus on all the parties and all the stuff is wrong. They know it's too much. They don't know why, and they don't know what it is. So, I think that it would be very easy to approach a neighbor and say, “You know we're really trying to, in our family, make the focus of Christmas about what it's all about.” I think people will get it even if they don't totally understand it, because I think we all know that it's—the whole system is not quite right. Bob: It's not that you can't have a party or have fun at Christmastime. Barbara: Exactly. Exactly. Bob: It's the balance issue, and right now, we're so out of balance in one direction— Dennis: Yes. Bob: —when we ought to be out of balance in the other direction. If anything ought to be highlighted at Christmas, it's not the cookies, right? Barbara: Exactly, I totally agree. That's right. Dennis: Well, think about it for a moment. I was going through an airport here a couple of years ago—and I think I just about had all I could take of everybody saying it's “holidays”—“Happy holidays.” It's not “Merry Christmas”—you know? So, I was going through the TSA line; and wherever I would go, I would say, “Merry Christmas.” Bob: Kind of loud like that? Dennis: Kind of loud like that. (Laughter) Bob: They probably pulled you aside for screening—extra screening. Dennis: No. No, they didn't. In fact, they got it. In fact, many of the TSA agents that I went through would smile. They kind of—it would take them a second to kind of get it. They would say, “Well, Merry Christmas to you too, Sir.” I think people really—I think for the most part, Bob, I think they get really weary of how the culture is trying to take the message out of one of the holiest holidays we as followers of Christ celebrate. What we need to be doing is we need to be finding practical, simple, non-threatening ways—not sounding like we're pious or religious or shoving something down somebody's throat, but simply honor someone and say, “Here's the reason why we celebrate Christmas. Enjoy this. It's my gift to you.” Bob: Barbara, the ornaments that you've created—and folks need to see them. They need to go to FamilyLifeToday.com if they want to see what they look like, if you want to order them. Again, the website is FamilyLifeToday.com to get a look at all seven of these ornaments--stamped, metal names of Christ: Jesus, Emmanuel, Savior, Christ the Lord, Wonderful Counselor, Prince of Peace, and Mighty God. They are available in a set of seven, or you can buy them as individual ornaments. Again, you can find out more about them at FamilyLifeToday.com. And these ornaments are—this is just one project you've been working on. You've had the holidays in mind: Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, the Lenten season before Easter. You're starting to think about other holidays; but what are some of the other resources you've been working on? Barbara: Well, currently, we have a couple of things available. One is a wreath, and it's a gratitude-focused wreath; but it's not orange. So, it's not Thanksgiving or fall themed. It's actually white. It's made out of vintage paper with Psalms and hymns of praise stamped onto each leaf with just a little tiny bit of glitter; but it's really beautiful. It's soft, and again, it's one of those “put it on your front door”—it's a statement of your faith. It's a reminder to be grateful. It isn't really a seasonal item, even though we designed it with Thanksgiving and fall and our natural inclination to think about gratitude in the month of November; nonetheless, it's not so themed to that holiday that you couldn't use it all year. So, we have that wreath available. Then, we also have a nativity. I know a lot of people who collect nativities, and this is a nativity that's unlike any others I've seen; but it too is not Christmas themed. In other words, it's not red and green. It doesn't have a lot of glitter on it; and it's an item that can be kept out all year—again, as a reminder of the birth of Christ and the centrality of that event in our lives as believers. Bob: Now, some people are hearing you talk about leaving a nativity scene out all year, and they just go, “Really? You'd—where in your house would you put a nativity set that you'd leave out all year?” Barbara: Well, I think there are a number of places I could put this one. This one is made out of metal. It's just the silhouette of Mary and Joseph and Baby Jesus. There's a donkey and a lamb. The lamb is really sweet. So, it's just those five pieces. And because it's metal, I could put it on a table on my screen porch. I might leave it up on the fireplace mantle. I might put it on a table or on a bookshelf. Because it's just the silhouette, you can just glance at it and see in an instant what it's all about. We all know what the nativity looks like. Bob: Alright, there are pictures of this on our website, too, at FamilyLifeToday.com. Barbara: Exactly, yes. Bob: And I suppose there's a picture of the wreath— Barbara: Yes. Bob: —if folks wanted to see what that looks like as well. And you're working on stuff that we're going to be talking about for Lent and for Easter, too? Barbara: Correct. We're creating a resource for families to use at Lent. It's a six- session—kind of a family devotion for lack of a better word, where a family can get together once in the evening or at breakfast or whenever works for your family. And there are six sort of lessons, one for each week of the six weeks leading up to Easter. So, that's the Lent product. And there are a lot more elements on it that we'll get into some other time. Then, we're doing something for Easter, too. For Holy Week, a very, very short activity to do every day for the—starting on Palm Sunday and every day leading up until Easter Sunday to help celebrate and prepare for the Resurrection of Christ. Bob: Are you getting any time? Are you seeing your wife at all these days? Dennis: You know I wish I could put in a complaint. She works in your area, Bob. I think I may have a talk with you. Bob: Talk to her boss. (Laughter) Dennis: I would have to say this, though. My wife has never been more motivated than when she was a mom. I mean when she went after being a mom, she did it all out. She was going to be the very finest mom in the world; and I have not seen this kind of drive and desire to really help other families in our 40 years of marriage. She is determined to help create tools that will help moms and dads, grandmas and grandpas, be successful in passing truth about God on to the next generation. It's such a central part of why God designed the family. Shouldn't we use the holidays and this holiday in specific, Christmas, to be able to pass the reality and the truth of Jesus Christ on to the next generation? Bob: Well, and listeners, as I've said, can get a chance to look at all that Barbara has been working on when they go to FamilyLifeToday.com. First of all, you can see the Adorenaments there; and we've got all seven of them laid out, so you can look at what they look like. You can also get information on the other resources she is working to develop. If you'd like to order either a set of Adorenaments or if you'd like to order individual ornaments, they're available when you go to FamilyLifeToday.com. Order from us online at FamilyLifeToday.com; or call toll-free 1-800-358-6329. That's 1-800- “F” as in family, “L” as in life, and then, the word, “TODAY”. Really, I should mention that these are not available generally in Christian bookstores or anywhere else online. You need to come to FamilyLifeToday.com; or call 1-800-FL-TODAY. Now, I should also mention that for many years we have made available a child-friendly nativity set called What God Wants for Christmas® that is designed to be interactive to help kids get into the act of placing Mary and Joseph and the angel and the shepherd and the wise men and the Baby Jesus in the Christmas scene. And it helps them understand the story. There is an accompanying poem that can be read aloud; or there is a CD that you can play, so that the kids can hear the story of Jesus' birth as they interact with this nativity scene. [Audio from What God Wants for Christmas] Bob: Well, that's a sample of what's on the CD and a sample of the poem that's included with What God Wants for Christmas; and there is a mysterious box that we call “Box Number Seven” that's in the package and in that box is what God wants for Christmas. So as you put the nativity scene together, you keep asking the question, “What is it that God wants for Christmas?” Ultimately, the child gets to discover the real reason why Jesus was born, why He died, and why He was raised again. If you'd like more information about What God Wants for Christmas, go to FamilyLifeToday.com; or call us toll-free at 1-800-FL-TODAY. We celebrated Thanksgiving last week, but we should not be done with thanksgiving just because the holiday is past. Gratitude is something that ought to be characteristic of all of us. And recently we had an opportunity to sit down and talk with Nancy Leigh DeMoss, who has written a book called Choosing Gratitude. We explored that subject with her, and we have two audio CDs that feature almost two hours of conversation with Nancy on this subject. We're making those CDs available this month for those of you are able to help support the ministry of FamilyLife Today with a donation. We are grateful for your support. When you go online at FamilyLifeToday.com, click the button that says, “I CARE,” and make an online donation; or call us toll-free at 1-800-FL-TODAY and make a donation over the phone. We really appreciate your partnership with us, and that's why we want to say thank you by making available these audio CDs. You can request them online or ask for them when you make a donation by phone; and just know that we are grateful to you for your partnership with us here in the ministry of FamilyLife Today. We hope you can join us back tomorrow. Barbara Rainey is going to be interacting with a group of young moms about how you mold and shape the next generation. We'll get a chance to listen in tomorrow. I hope you can be back for that. I want to thank our engineer today, Keith Lynch, and our entire broadcast production team. On behalf of our host, Dennis Rainey, I'm Bob Lepine. We will see you back tomorrow for another edition of FamilyLife Today. FamilyLife Today is a production of FamilyLife of Little Rock, Arkansas. Help for today. Hope for tomorrow. Our guest this week is Neale Donald Walsch, an actor, screenwriter, speaker, and the author of the series “Conversations with God”About NealeNeale is a modern day spiritual messenger whose words continue to touch the world in profound ways. With an early interest in religion and a deeply felt connection to spirituality, Neale spent the majority of his life thriving professionally, yet searching for spiritual meaning before experiencing his now famous conversation with God. The Conversations with God series of books that emerged from those encounters has been translated into 37 languages, touching millions and inspiring important changes in their day-to-day lives.Neale has written 29 books on spirituality and its practical application in everyday life. Titles in the With God series include: Conversations with God, Books 1-3; Friendship with God; Communion with God; The New Revelations; Tomorrow’s God; What God Wants; and Home with God. Seven of the books in that series reached the New York Times Bestseller List, CWG-Book 1 occupying that list for over two-and-a-half years. In order to deal with the enormous response to his writings, Neale has created several outreach projects, including the CWG Foundation, CWG for Parents, Humanity’s Team, the CWG Helping Outreach, and The Global Conversation, all accessible at the “hub” website www.CWGPortal.com, and all dedicated to help the world move from violence to peace, from confusion to clarity, and from anger to love.Neale's work has taken him from the steps of Macchu Picchu in Peru to the steps of the Shinto shrines of Japan, from Red Square in Moscow to St. Peter's Square in Vatican City to Tiananmen Square in China. And everywhere he has gone, from South Africa to Norway, Croatia to The Netherlands, the streets of Zurich to the streets of Seoul, Neale has experienced a hunger among the people to find a new way to live, at last, in peace and harmony, and he has sought to bring people a new understanding of life and of God which would allow them to experience that.Join the Inspired Evolution Community:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/InspiredEvolution/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/InspiredEvo/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/InspiredEvolution/Website: https://inspiredevolution.com/In this Episode We Canvas:The Biggest Problem That we Face Today People see outcomes but they don’t know what the cause of the outcomes is, and that in itself is the biggest problem in the world today. We all, for example, know that our civilization won’t start moving in the direction that we would like it to move in, but we don’t know why. The fallout from that though is alienation, and it’s visible all over the world in such enormous magnitudes even during the current Coronavirus pandemic when we are all supposed to be united. Neale feels that at some higher level, the force of alienation and unity are meeting face to face at the same time for a reason that has to do with the evolution of our species. “The biggest problem in the world today is that most people don’t know what the biggest problem in the world today is” - Neale Donald WalschAlienation’s Role in Ensuring ConnectionAlienation is absolutely necessary for connection to take place because we as human beings cannot develop the desire for connection unless we experience the lack of it through a certain level of widespread alienation and all the negative impact that comes with it.“In the absence of what we are not, what we are cannot be experienced” - Neale Donald WalschOur Decision in Our Evolution Through self awareness, we become decision makers and have a key role to play in the process by which we evolve because we are aware of what is going on with us, in us, as us, and through us, in every moment of our lives, and we can make decisions that affect that experience. In order to make those decisions, we must choose between a number of choices that are based on four fundamental questions, namely, Who am I?, Where am I?, Why am I where I am?, and What do I intend to do about my answer to the third question? A lot of people don’t know who they are or why they’re here because they don’t even attempt to ask the four questions. “Evolution is not a process that happens to us, it’s a process that happens through us” - Neale Donald WalschShift HappensThe current shift that’s taking place, especially due to the pandemic we’re experiencing, has pushed people towards asking the four fundamental questions because they are seeing things as they know them changing in ways they could have never thought possible. Human beings as a species are now gathering the truth and growing. “We’re taking larger swallows from the serum of ultimate reality” - Neale Donald WalschSpeaking as the Mouthpiece of GodAnyone can speak as the mouthpiece of God because nobody is separate from the divine. Neale highlights that God puts words into his mouth just as much as he does into the mouths of others, and that happens in the form of inspiration. Inspiration is all about one declaring and announcing concepts and ideas that they believe in their heart to be true, and that they believe in their heart to have been inspired by the divine. “Wouldn’t be interesting if God never stopped speaking to us” - Neale Donald WalschUnconditional LoveDoing unto others as we would like done unto us is a simple tool that we can all use to integrate unconditional love into our daily expression of love. Another way of doing it is by questioning a choice before we make it and asking ourselves what it has to do with the agenda of our individual soul. That puts the choice in a brand new context and so one longer considers it as they had done initially. “God doesn’t leave the room when we’re at our worst” - Neale Donald WalschBelieves are Synonymous Without SpiritualitySpirituality is just a larger word for belief, and it’s a word we use when we want to talk about our most sacred beliefs. Even though we may not realize, a lot of our spiritual beliefs unconsciously dictate the actions, choices, and decisions we make in our everyday life. Neale feels that even though there has been the issue of our spiritual and religious beliefs being instilled in us without our full understanding, we must acknowledge that they have taught us a lot of true things about life and deity. He highlights that it’s time to look at all the fundamental elements of our world's religions to see what it is we don't understand because that could change everything.“It’s time to take a close look at the fundamental elements of our world’s religions to see if there is something we don't fully understand, the understanding of which would change everything” - Neale Donald WalschInspired Evolution To NealeInspired evolution to Neale means evolution based on our here and now experience and our here and now highest desire. It’s not based on our understandings from the past. We have to be willing to let go of our understandings from the past, not to abandon them but to temporarily release them and then re-evaluate them to see which ones are worthy to be held on to. A great example of how we question our beliefs is how we question our oneness by thinking that we are separate from each other, when in reality we are a single entity simply expressing in individual parts.“Evolution is the process by which we really step into our here and now highest thoughts and grandest desires about tomorrow” - Neale Donald Walsch See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Episode 59 captures our second session of the series, "What God Wants." In this episode, we explore Paul's words to the Galatians in chapter 4:21-31, in which he reminds us that Abraham had two sons. Which son are you?
We wrap up a 3 week series from Micah 6 called “What God Wants” with the final message “To Walk Humbly With Your God”. It’s easy to point the finger at our arrogant culture and say “others” need humility. But the real work is to not let ourselves off the hook and be completely honest with ourselves about our own posture of arrogance.
We continue the 3 week series “What God Wants” by looking into the 2nd command God gave to Israel through the prophet Micah; Love Mercy.

Based on Micah 6, esp verse 8, “What God Wants” is a message showing that God is as concerned with why things are done as with what is done. He requires our religion to be filled with justice, mercy and humility. These are things that draw the favor of God. A sermon given by Pastor John Tuttle at Waters Edge Church. On this week's programme the SS102fm team continue our reflection on Bishop Brendan Leahy's Lenten Pastoral Letter "This Is What God Wants Of Us – Our Holiness." We also have our usual reflection on the Sunday Gospel and local notices. John and Lorraine continued our reflection on Bishop Brendan's pastoral letter "This is What God Wants of Us - Our Holiness." Of course, just because Lent is over and we are well into the season of Eastertide doesn't mean that we can forget about holiness! The call to holiness is both universal (meaning that we are all called to holiness) and ongoing. It is a life-long endeavour of saying 'yes' to God's grace. As Bishop Brendan succinctly puts it - holiness is "love lived to the full, love of God and one’s neighbour." In this week's programme we look at the section on 'Why is holiness important?' Bishop Brendan suggests that although we may not be perfect, the overall trend of our life and our effort to be holy matters: "Each one of us not only has a mission but is a mission. God wants some particular aspect of the Gospel to shine out in our lives. If we live our life living love to the full, that is, in holiness, God’s word gets pronounced, as it were, more clearly to the benefit of many."Bishop Brendan also invites us to reflect on the following question: "You might think of people you know who you consider holy and ask yourself what specific word does their life speak to you. Each of our lives is speaking a word to the world around us." So we invite you to do the same during the coming week. Think about what word you proclaim to the world and what words those who are holy proclaim to the world.
In today’s sermon, Pastor Babij details the wrong attitudes Christians bring into prayer and explains how to pray scripturally and honestly. Pastor advises Christians to pray for physical and spiritual needs and to remember that prayer is ultimately meant to conform believers into the image of Christ. Neale Donald Walsch: When Everything Changes, Change Everything This was one of the very first interviews I ever did for the WISH Summit. It was recorded in 2010. This is a fantastic call about how to bring communication difficulties and explains some of the underlying problems preventing our ability to understand one another. This call is well worth your time. Neale Donald Walsch puts the film The Secret into perspective and explains how this film went way off the mark. This call will inspire you to use your spiritual ninja skills to make your life, and the lives around you, go right. Luke 1:46b-55: In the tradition of the Old Testament prophets, Mary's song, which we know as the Magnificat, describes the hopes, dreams and visions not only of humanity but of God FOR humanity. It tells us what God wants, not just for some, but for all.

Through the years there have been a lot of things that I would have liked for God's people to know about the pastoral position. But I never felt comfortable teaching these things because I was afraid that as a pastor it would have appeared to be self-serving. I always wished that someone else had at some time in the past taught these truths. Now that I am not the pastor of a church I can teach these truths without appearing self- serving. This devotion is taking from a message in which I teach about what God would have you to know about the office of the pastor. Please listen and then go and honor your pastor. I am available for speaking engagements and would love to share the message about, "What God Wants a Church To Know About Their Pastor"

Reflecting on the Parable of the Soils, summarize the spiritual truths that have been revealed to you? If spiritual truth is meant to be revealed, and not hidden, what practical effects should that have in our lives - at home, in the workplace, etc.? Day 2: Read Luke 8:16-18, Ps. 18:28, 119:105 and discuss: What is the purpose of the “lamp” of God’s Word? The religious leaders in Jesus’ day tried to extinguish his “light”; whose teaching, later in the New Testament, compelled leaders to try to extinguish their teaching, too? Cite specific examples. How should this reaction to spiritual truth prepare us as we are used to reveal the light of spiritual truth in our everyday lives?
