In this episode, Guy talked with Doug Matzke, a professional programmer and electrical engineer. He discussed the bold assertion that humans are akin to quantum computers, exploring the implications this has for our understanding of consciousness and artificial intelligence. He revisited his podcast's past episodes to highlight essential themes, particularly the idea that the brain operates not as a classical computer, but as a quantum one. This paradigm shift impacts our approach to building artificial intelligence, suggesting it's an insurmountable task with current assumptions. He also shared insights from his book 'Deep Reality,' delving into the deep connections between quantum physics, metaphysics, and human consciousness. Topics include the nature of hyperdimensional spaces, the power of intention, and the potential of tapping into a universal mind. Doug's vision for the future is optimistic; he believes that by understanding these concepts, humanity can accelerate its spiritual growth and harness infinite intelligence to transform reality. About Doug: Dr. Doug Matzke is a prolific scientist, researcher, and presenter in his areas of expertise about the limits of computation, hyperdimensional mathematics, neurocomputing, quantum computing, real intelligence and metaphysics. My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Oran Kivity, son of the late Ruth Jordan who wrote her memoir Daughter of the Waves.   British acupuncturist and coach Oran Kivity trained in Europe, China, and Japan. He has been in continuous practice since 1987 and specializes in Japanese methods. In 2000, he was a founder member of Toyohari UK, the British branch of the Toyohari Association of Japan. In recent years, he developed the Ontake Method, which won awards from Harper's Bazaar Magazine in 2014 and Global Health Pharma in 2019 for the most innovative new healing method.   His books, Moxa in Motion and Hirata Zone Therapy received praise and recognition from acupuncture journals worldwide, including the Journal of Chinese Medicine, the European Journal of Oriental Medicine and North American Journal of Oriental Medicine.  He took on this project to republish his mother's memoir as a tribute to her and so younger generations of his family knew her story.   Oran lived and worked in Malaysia from 2005 till the Covid-19 pandemic of 2020 when he moved to Taiwan. He now practices, writes, coaches and teaches from the southern port town of Kaohsiung, where he lives happily by a river, near a lake and close to the sea.   In her book book review, Carole stated: Reading Daughter of the Waves was a new experience for me. I had very little knowledge of Palestinian life before 1940. And, while I expected to read an autobiography, I found what I was experiencing was similar to sitting at the kitchen table with a neighbor over a cup of tea as she recalled memories of growing up in a seaside suburb of Haifa, called Bat Gelim, in pre-war Palestine. She didn't recite a chronological list, but rather highlights as she remembered them. It was obvious she had a love of adventure. From the Flying Camel to the cyclist from Palestine to London to raise money to build a Jewish sports stadium in Palestine, her humor was always part of the portrait of a child and a nation growing side-by-side. Her delight in the Palestine Orchestra conducted by Toscanini did not overshadow her memory of the Arab revolt to stop the Jewish immigration in 1936. Traditional and independent publishers are continuing to struggle. As a result, more and more previously-published authors are deciding to try self-publishing when they regain the rights to books that had previously been traditionally published.  While this offers authors an opportunity to breathe new life into their old books, it's not necessarily the most straightforward process to self-publish a book that already exists on Amazon. Many authors have concerns about whether or not they can access previous reviews, how multiple editions of the same book might show up on Amazon, and whether issues will arise with copyright. Fortunately for those authors, award-winning science fiction and fantasy author Edward Willett has navigated the treacherous process of republishing books many times before - both for his own works, and those of the many authors he works with. In this episode of Fully Booked, Edward explains to Craig and Roland how authors should go about republishing their previously-published books, what things they can leverage from their book's previous editions on Amazon, and issues to be aware of as they breathe new life into their beloved old work.   Edward Willett https://edwardwillett.com/   Hidden Gems Need our help publishing or marketing your book?  https://www.hiddengemsbooks.com/author-services/ All episode details and links:  https://www.hiddengemsbooks.com/podcast

I want to finish this sweater! Erick's Reading:  The Wendigo by Algernon Blackwood Hyperion by Dan Simmons   Show Notes:  Make sure you have Google Analytics on website at the very least. Search Engine = Google; Google scans All Pages On The Internet; Which page is most likely to help the searcher? When building a page (blog, site, YT) you are optimizing that content so that Google can find it. Tailor the content for that purpose--to rise to the top of those search results. Website = newspaper (Erick analogy.) Write blog topics based on google search terms. (What's a hot search term right now?) Tailor your content to the broad topic (called long tail search term) and create content based on each smaller keyword. YOST plug-in gives you red/green lights on each page, and tells you where to naturally put your keywords. Google crawls your site to look for new content. Goal: to rank for multiple relevant keywords. After two dozen pages of targeted content, you'll be pushed up in the searches. This marketing strategy is part of SEO. (Or maybe the other way around?) Erick works on this quarterly and weekly. Every quarter he looks for trending search terms and plans a quarter of blog post topics; and writes one each week for his blog.  Also, thinking about how to narrow the search terms. "Ghost writer" becomes "best ghost writer for hire in Portland Oregon." This works especially well for writers that provide author services and non-fiction authors, but what about fiction writers? Fiction: what are your competitive keywords? Take the low hanging fruit. Be the best small fish. "Mystery author" (competitive), "Oregon City author" is less competitive than "Portland author." It's about branding. If "Books about haunted towns" is the search term, write a blog post on "Top Ten Haunted Towns." You can look at SEO like choosing amazon keywords and categories for your book. Amazon book page is same as a website page in terms of content for Google to search. Site age does factor in to the Google ranking. Start SEO habit today, don't go back to fix old blog posts. Republishing blogs does count as new content, though. Next Steps: 1. Install Google Analytics on your website. 2. Install Yost on your website. 3. Brainstorm for search terms. What do you want to rank for in six months? (Think highest paying job.) 4. Take each term and put it in AdWords or Keyword Planner, and it will give you fifty other terms that fit, and rank them.  5. Start with lowest competitive terms. (What does it cost to run an ad on that word?) And write a blog post on that. Alternate topics. It all starts with content. (There are further strategies that come beyond the page, but you need content first. This can be: blog post; pictures can have keywords, too (meta tagging); video descriptions.  Tools to use for SEO, domain analysis, and keywords: Google Analytics, Google  Ad Words, Yoast, Moz. Talk to Erick about it. Email him to start a conversation. He can help you get started. SEO Consultants are expensive. Thirty years ago, David Treuer was a young writer, taking classes at Princeton University, far from his home on the Leech Lake Reservation in northern Minnesota. Feeling trapped on the content hamster wheel? In Episode 14, we talked about maximizing the new content you create. Here in Episode 15, I'll share some creative ways to repurpose your old content and focus on refreshing and republishing content on your website. Ready to make old things new again?Creating 8–10 new pieces of content every week can wear out even the most dedicated, gifted, and inspired writers. How about if I give you permission to just stop doing it? To step off the content hamster wheel, but still spread the message God gave you to share? If you've been creating content consistently for a long time, you are sitting on a gold mine that can be repurposed or republished. Maybe you feel funny about that.  Are you cheating your audience by using the same content again? Will they get bored if they hear something they've heard before? Not to worry. The Bible is full of examples of God repeating himself.Much of your repurposed content will land in front of people who've never seen it before. Your audience has grown, and even your long-time people haven't seen everything. But even for those who see it again, it may be God's way of giving them the same message that will resonate in a different way at a different time of their life.Repurposing content comes in many forms:Convert an old blog post into a podcast episodeBreak up an old subscriber freebie into several social media posts.Edit clips of related podcast episodes into a “Best of” series to run through the summer. One of the most effective ways to repurpose is to simply clean up and republish old posts. Follow these four steps to give your old content a fresh new life:Update any outdated or time-sensitive informationGive it an SEO refreshCreate a new subscriber freebie or freshen up one you already haveIf you are monetizing your content, add an affiliate linkIf you want to get serious about SEO, check out SEO for Christian Bloggers from Kingdom Bloggers Academy.Repurposing your old content finds the balance between consistently speaking to your audience, and having time and space to create your greatest work. So if you've been hesitant to do it, go ahead - I give you permission!ACTION STEP:Find your best post more than a year old, give it a little makeover, and republish it. If you visit our free Facebook group Plan & Pray with Do A New Thing, you'll find a checklist to guide you. Promote your republished post on your social media. If you'll tag me @doanewthing and use the hashtag #justonesimplething, I'll stop by and give it a little engagement. If you don't have anything more than a year old, look at your three top-performing posts and decide how you can repurpose them. You can make a big dent in your social media plan for the month by using small bits of each post as a caption. I can't wait to see what you come up with!RESOURCES:Book Recommendation: Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less by Greg McKeown++++++++++Are you tired from trying to share your God-inspired message while working your full time job? Join us for this fabulous conversation where Michelle's shares about her earliest memories from childhood related to money, and how her own money story was shaped. She shares her parents' feast or famine patterns with money, and how through their communication (including TMI at times) and behaviors, they taught her different lessons about money. You'll hear Michelle discuss the difference between things that are private versus things that are secret, and how secrets harm, including in our financial lives. Michelle also shares about how parents can talk in healthy, helpful, and age-appropriate ways about money and finances with their children, what the meaning of wealth is, and about contextual self-control which illuminates how our motivations show up differently, in different areas of life. Michelle has used the money lessons from her life to rethink how financial advisors and their clients have traditionally worked together. Rather than thinking of her role as a gatekeeper of portfolios, she sees real value in being a gateway to personal financial freedom. To support her clients on their unique wealth journeys, Michelle is a technician of financial planning, investment, and wealth management. But what differentiates Michelle from other financial advisors is that she has spent the last two-plus decades studying the unconventional, non-financial aspects of life satisfaction, financial therapy (it's a thing), behavioral bias, choice, and decision advising. She believes we all need to examine the money stories, scripts, and lessons that affect our financial psychology so that we can rethink what we know about money to have more of it. *Republishing with the correct spelling of Julie's last name.* Josh interviews Family Therapist Julie Dodson to discuss the "Showing Understanding Skill" technique she's been trained in. Pro-life advocates can use this skill to grow in their empathy and navigate conversations better, especially the ones that turn to particularly emotional aspects of the abortion debate. The four steps are: 1: Listen in a way that shows strong interest. 2: Become the other person. 3: Name thoughts, feelings, concerns/meanings, and desires. 4: Accept and make corrections graciously. Editors note: Apologies for the wonky audio on this one. Zoom did a software update and switched off the "record separate audio channels" feature, mashing all of our audio into one. So things sound kind of goofy anytime we're talking at the same time. Now we check that feature before every recording session to make sure that doesn't happen again! ------------------------- After the recording session Julie sent a few additional notes for clarity, which we're including below unedited: After reflecting on time recording the podcast, I wanted to add some information and clarifications. First, in discussing anger, we see that there is both truth-based anger and lie-based anger. If all anger was bad or if it was inherently sinful to be angry, we would not see God feeling or expressing anger. There is a righteous anger against injustice, human trafficking, or the killing of the innocent unborn, for examples. But for most of us, our anger, bitterness, unforgiveness, etc. against self, others, or God that is held for long periods of time is usually lie-based anger. Lie-based anger is held, not because we want to be angry, but because, deep down, we believe that it is serving a good or just purpose for us. We have heard many reasons such as the following: -“My anger protects me." -"My anger holds myself or someone else accountable." -"My anger proves ____ is not ok." -“My anger keeps me from doing that again.” We may cognitively be aware that the anger is not actually helping us, but when life gets hard or when we are in crisis-mode, we feel, react, and make decisions, not based on what we know to be true, but what FEELS true to us, that is, what we actually believe on a deeper level. *This perspective is informed by my work as a TPM mentor. You can find more information about TPM at https://www.transformationprayer.org/preparing-journey-introduction/ and about the TPM perspective about anger at https://www.transformationprayer.org/anger-in-the-ministry-session/. For additional “geeking out” about God and anger, see https://bibleproject.com/podcast/gods-hot-nose/. Second, we discussed how crisis reveals belief system and worldview. What I am NOT saying is that it is wrong to care for others or that it is wrong to have concern for the health or safety of those around us. I mean that crisis reveals where we put our trust or ultimate hope. For example, if my ultimate hope is in the planet, any piece of trash or oil spill or person that refuses to recycle may be interpreted as assault on my source of hope. If my hope is in the expectations of my future, then anything that might get in the way of what I want that future to be may also be seen an attack (ex: someone with an unplanned pregnancy). If my ultimate hope is in my health or the health of those I love, anything someone might do that threatens health, even unintentionally, may be seen as an assault. And when people are scared that their hope-source is being threatened, they often react out of anger, self-protection, or protection of others. Again, this is not to say that caring for others is wrong at all. We are called as Christ-followers to love God and others. Our reaction (internal or external), however, may give a clue to where we are placing our ultimate hope and trust. ------------------------- Related Links: The "Experience Diagram" Julie references: https://bit.ly/3iIDtE7 Here's the sermon audio Josh referenced on the topic of honor - "A Community of Honor in a Culture of Contempt" from Bridgetown Church: https://bit.ly/30R9Kmp National Institute of Relationship Enhancement: https://nire.org Jule Dodson's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/julie.b.dodson You can email Julie at: julie.b.dodson@gmail.com ------------------------- Julia Dodson, MA, LMFT, is a patient advocate for Avenues for Women, a medical pregnancy resource center serving abortion-minded women and families in Frankfort, KY. As the trial begins for alleged accomplices to the Charlie Hebdo and Kosher market attacks, controversial cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed have reappeared on the magazine's cover. The editors have taken this risk because they are concerned that France and the rest of the world have forgotten the message of “Je Suis Charlie!” (I am Charlie). After the tragic massacre of Charlie Hebdo editors, cartoonists and other staff, this slogan united people in support of freedom of speech and freedom of the press. This episode of The Terrorist Therapist Show takes you back to January 2015, and reminds you of what happened and why. It also puts the 3 terrorists who perpetrated these attacks on the couch: Cherif and Said Kouachi, the two brothers who attacked Charlie Hebdo, and Amedy Coulibaly who attacked the Kosher market. The first printing of this issue that just came out has already sold out, so they are printing more. And the backlash to the republishing of the Prophet Mohammed cartoons has already begun, with Iran condemning it as a provocation, and marchers in Pakistan chanting, “Stop barking, French dogs!” The trial is expected to go until mid-November, so there will undoubtedly be more demonstrations, but hopefully no new attacks. Listen now to the whole story, and ask yourself what you would have done
