Drawing from his new book The Stimulated Mind, Tommy makes the case that movement is non-negotiable for brain health — and that even small amounts make a meaningful difference. From walking and resistance training to dancing and pickleball, different types of exercise protect different parts of the brain in ways that compound over time. The bottom line? You don't need a perfect plan. You just need to start. How often should you actually change your workout split — and is switching too soon killing your progress? In this episode, we break down the real science behind exercise rotation vs. repeatability, including what a 2021 study revealed about regional muscle growth and whether variety actually builds more muscle. We cover how your experience level should dictate how often you rotate, which muscle groups genuinely need exercise variety and which don't, and how to structure your upper/lower split so you're covering full muscle actions without stacking injury risk over time. If you want more episodes like this — where we translate research into practical coaching decisions — subscribe and follow along each week.

Today on Curious Now we're looking at how to repair after what you said or did lands the wrong way: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-center-for-medical-simulation/id1279266822 Intent/impact mismatches are really common, and for good reason: We have access to our intentions--We do not have access to others' intentions--So we fill in the gap, often with the most negative possible interpretation. As leaders, because we see our own actions in the context of our intent, we can have blind spots as to the impact of our words and actions, and even cause us to feel wounded when we don't get the reaction we were looking for. Join us for the signs and symptoms of an intent/impact mismatch, and how to repair! What if the biggest barrier to your fitness isn't a lack of willpower — it's a set of hidden biases working against you? In this conversation with sports medicine physician Jordan Metzl, we uncover the science of motivation and why people who rarely miss a workout aren't more disciplined — they've just learned to lower their cost to act. Discover the knowledge-belief-emotion framework that transforms "I should" into "I'm doing this" and finally into "I'm crushing this."We explore why laziness is a myth, how curiosity is the most underrated motivational tool, and why science shows that roughly 60% of your health is determined not by your genes — but by the choices you make every day. Whether you're a coach trying to keep clients coming back or someone looking to reignite your own fire, this episode is your blueprint for building motivation that sustains itself.

What if the places where you feel the most emotionally reactive are actually invitations to grow? In today's workout, Alisa Keeton, founder and CEO of Revelation Wellness, invites you to move your body while engaging the Word of God—not just hearing it, but living it. Because Scripture calls us to be doers of the Word, not just hearers. So get your good body moving. However you choose to move today—walking, jogging, stretching, or simply breathing deeply—remember this: movement helps your body do what God designed it to do. Today's Scripture: Numbers 20:1–13 The Body and Our Emotions Our bodies are emotional places. Trauma expert Bessel van der Kolk famously wrote The Body Keeps the Score, reminding us that emotions live in our bodies. No emotion is off the table. At their core, emotions are childlike signals. Your brain is simply trying to keep you safe. But emotional reactivity can reveal something deeper. Our emotional instability can show us the places where we're still growing. The places where we're still immature. The places where we need God's presence most. Questions to Reflect On While You Move As you get the blood flowing and settle into your movement today, consider: What have you seen God do in your life? What miracles has He already performed? Where might you be trying to fix things in your own strength? Emotional maturity isn't achieved through willpower. The cure is His presence. So today, breathe deep. Relax your shoulders. Keep moving. Let God meet you in your body, your breath, and your emotions. Welcome back to the Bodcast! This week, I'm breaking down exactly how to program your workout week as effectively as possible, no matter your experience level or schedule. From the vital health benefits of lifting weights to the exact number of sets you should be doing, this episode is your ultimate guide to structuring your time in the gym. In this episode I cover: Why We Lift: It's not just about aesthetics! Resistance training is crucial for metabolic health, longevity, fighting chronic disease, and reducing all-cause mortality. Getting Started Safely: Why complete beginners should always book a PT to nail their form and avoid injury before tackling big weights alone. The Beginner Blueprint: Why newbies should focus on full-body sessions 2-3 times a week, prioritizing big compound lifts (like squats and deadlifts) for 6-10 sets per muscle group weekly. Leveling Up to Intermediate: How to keep progressing and hit optimal volume by bumping up to 3-4 sessions a week, hitting 10-16 sets per muscle group with push/pull or upper/lower splits. The Advanced Athlete: For those who have been lifting consistently for 3-4+ years, I explain why you might need 4-5 sessions a week, 12-20 sets per muscle group, and a strategic mix of heavy compounds and accessory work. Rest & Recovery: A reminder that muscle actually grows during recovery, not in the gym—and why you absolutely need rest days and adequate protein to repair micro-tears. Ditching Perfectionism: Why a 20-minute workout is always better than doing nothing, and how dropping the "f*ck it" mentality is the real secret to staying in shape long-term. Don't forget to like, subscribe, rate, and review the Bodcast! It helps others find the podcast more easily. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

What if your movement today wasn't about burning calories… but about coming back home to God? In this steady-state workout, Alisa Keeton, founder and CEO of Revelation Wellness, invites you into a pace that is sustainable, honest, and present. Keep your effort level above a 5—steady, intentional, consistent. Because when we move, we're telling our brains we're not stuck. We stir up energy. We remind our bodies we are not powerless. Today's workout is simple: If you're moving, you're doing it right. A Transparent Invitation Alisa comes to you today a little thin in her soul—honest, open, and anchored in truth. This episode is an invitation to gaze at God. Like Moses, when we do, our faces shine. "Our soul does not find rest until it rests in God." – St. Augustine As your body moves in steady rhythm, your spirit is invited to settle. Biology marries theology here. Movement meets meditation. Effort meets surrender. Today's Scripture Meditation We are taking one verse and letting it go deep—encoded into brain and body. Not a sweet treat you taste and forget, but meat. Substance. Sustenance. Something you can chew on long after this workout ends. Today's prescription comes from:

Are we all stuck in a Lululemon time warp… or did the gym turn into a matching-set cult overnight? This week, Cat & Nat talk “cool girl workout uniform” and ask the question no one wants to say out loud: are we dressing to sweat… or to audition for Instagram? From shiny ponytails and half-bra sets to the silent pressure of looking 27 forever, we're breaking down how gym culture quietly became a fashion show — and why some of us are still clinging to leggings from 2014 like they're a personality trait. We get into:• The rise and fall of “it brands” (yes, we said it).• Why matching sets feel like a personality test.• The subtle panic of realizing you might have aged out of “cool.”• How to dress for your actual body and life — not a 23-year-old influencer's feed.• Why confidence hits harder than any $180 sports bra ever will.If you've ever stood in front of your closet thinking, “Am I trying to be trendy… or do I just want to feel good?” this episode is your permission slip to choose happy. No fashion rules. No influencer math. Just real talk about getting dressed, getting older, and getting comfortable owning both.Because the real flex? Wearing what you love and not caring who disagrees.
