I'm Falling in Like Slowly with the New Z7. A Nikon Z7 II Review

For more stories like this, please subscribe to The Phoblographer. I have been a Nikonian photographer for more than a decade. Yet, after trying the company's first full-frame mirrorless, I chose to stick with a DSLR. I simply didn't have the confidence in the Z7 and Z6 autofocus system and lack of ability to record to two cards at once. That's exactly what Nikon focused on in the second generation, however. The Nikon Z7 II keeps much of the first generation intact but steps up the autofocus, adds a second card slot, and moves to dual processors. Then, there's also the price bump of a few hundred bucks. So, has Nikon earned my trust back with the Nikon Z7 II? I didn't fall in love instantly like I had hoped, but gradually, the Z7 II earned my confidence. The Z7 II isn't perfect, and it doesn't outperform the competition. But, it's a camera many photographers could still manage to fall in love with, especially paired with a Z system lens. Table of Contents Too Long, Didn't Read Pros and Cons Pros Cons Gear Used Innovations Tech Specs Ergonomics Build Quality Autofocus Ease of Use Metering Image Quality High ISO Images RAW File Versatility Extra Image Samples Edited Unedited Conclusion Likes Dislikes Is the Nikon Z7 II Worth it? Too Long, Didn't Read The Nikon Z7 II corrects much of what disappointed me in the first version, including a much better autofocus system and dual card slots. The Z7 II is beautiful inside and out: it takes beautiful pictures, and it's also beautifully designed. But, while finally competitive, there are a few annoyances to contend with. Pros and Cons Pros A much-improved autofocus system Durable magnesium alloy build with weather-sealing Image quality is great, especially with native Z lenses In-body image stabilization Dual card slots with XQD/CF Express and SD Cons While improved, the autofocus isn't as good as Canon's R series Eyepiece rubber sometimes blocks the eye sensor Viewfinder blacks out Gear Used I used the Nikon Z7 II with the Z 50mm f1.2 S, the Z 70-200mm f2.8 VR S, and the Z 24-200mm f4-6.3 VR. I used the Wandrd Sling strap, as well as the Wandrd PRVKE II and Lowepro Flipside backpacks. Innovations The Nikon Z7 II is more about fixing complaints about the first generation than crazy innovation. It adds the dual card slots, improves autofocus performance, and upgrades video to 4K at 60 fps (93 percent crop). The biggest change is the move up from a single processor to two, which improves performance. Tech Specs These Nikon Z7 II tech specs are a shortened version of the full specifications available from Nikon USA: Sensor: 45.7-megapixel full-frame CMOS RAW: 12 or 14 bit Two card slots with XQD/CF Express, SD EVF: .5 inch, 3690k dot 3.2 inch 2,100K dot touchscreen with tilt Shutter: 30 sec. to 1/8000, Flash sync up to 1/200 10 fps burst ISO: 64-25,600 (32-102,400 extended) AF: Hybrid phase-detection/contrast with AF assist beam, -3 to +19 detection range, 493 focus points 5-axis sensor-shift stabilization Video: 4K at 60 fps (93 percent crop of the sensor), up to 29 minutes 59 second recording time Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Li-ion battery rated at 360 to 440 depending on settings Weighs 21.7 ounces 5.3 x 4 x 2.8 inches Ergonomics Little has changed on the exterior of the second-generation Z7. Save for the little “II” in the corner on the camera name, it would be difficult to tell the two apart at a glance. The biggest exception? The second generation has both the XQD or CF Express slot and an SD slot. That's a must-have for working professionals who need to back up their images in the field. The Z7 II weighs 21.7 ounces, which is significantly lighter than the Nikon D850. It's also more compact, yet the grip is almost the same size, so it doesn't have the uncomfortable hold of a compact camera. A long-time Nikon DSLR user, the control scheme on the Z7 II feels like home. The top houses an LCD screen. Dual control wheels flank the shutter, on/off, record, ISO, and exposure compensation on the ...

Nikola Kostic is a travel and documentary photographer and film maker based in Indonesia. Nikola moved to Bali in 1998 from his home country of Serbia and fell into photography when his uncle asked him to photograph some jewellery. He quickly found himself as a busy, commercial photographer as Bali transitioned from a sleepy island to a bustling tourist hotspot. Nikola's work is incredibly diverse featuring portraits, food, dance, interiors, cityscapes, golf courses and much more. All of this experience pours into his latest project - making a documentary film about the construction of the first sustainable, zero waste island in south east Asia, which is being developed by his wife, a lady who also builds luxury yachts. I really enjoyed meeting Nikola - he's such a passionate and interesting guy who is a great story teller and a fantastic photographer. Dylan is as humble and down to earth as you can get but also really intentional and thoughtful about his photography so I'm sure you'll enjoy my conversation with Dylan Nardini.  Show Notes Get a quote for your unwanted camera gear at MPB: https://www.mpb.com/en-uk/sell-or-trade/ (https://www.mpb.com/en-uk/sell-or-trade/)  Follow this week's guest at the following links:  Portfolio - https://www.dylannardini.co.uk (https://www.dylannardini.co.uk) Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/dylan.nardini/ (https://www.instagram.com/dylan.nardini/) Scottish Landscape Photographer of the Year - https://slpoty.co.uk/2021-portfolio-winners-gallery/ (https://slpoty.co.uk/2021-portfolio-winners-gallery/)  British Photography Awards - https://www.britishphotographyawards.org/event-2021 (https://www.britishphotographyawards.org/event-2021)  Connect with me at the View Finders website where you can get my free long exposure tutorial video: http://www.viewfinderslive.com (www.viewfinderslive.com)  Also find me at: http://www.instagram.com/viewfinderspodcast (www.instagram.com/viewfinderspodcast)  http://www.grahamdargie.com (www.grahamdargie.com)  http://www.youtube.com/5minutephotography (www.youtube.com/5minutephotography)  http://www.facebook.com/grahamdargiephotography (www.facebook.com/grahamdargiephotography)  Find out about the next View Finders Live Online Event: https://www.grahamdargie.com/events (https://viewfinderslive.com/live-events) Photography equipment: Nikon D850 - https://www.mpb.com/en-uk/used-equipment/used-photo-and-video/used-digital-slr-cameras/used-nikon-digital-slr-cameras/nikon-d850/ (https://www.mpb.com/en-uk/used-equipment/used-photo-and-video/used-digital-slr-cameras/used-nikon-digital-slr-cameras/nikon-d850/)  NIKON 50MM AIS LENS - https://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/50mm-f12.htm (https://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/50mm-f12.htm)  NIKON 105MM AIS LENS - https://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/105f25.htm (https://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/105f25.htm)  NIKON 80-200MM SIA LENS - https://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/80200f4ais.htm (https://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/80200f4ais.htm)  SIGMA 70-200MM LENS - https://www.mpb.com/en-uk/used-equipment/used-photo-and-video/used-lenses/used-nikon-fit-lenses/sigma-70-200mm-f-2-8-ex-dg-os-hsm-nikon-fit/sku-1223113/ (https://www.mpb.com/en-uk/used-equipment/used-photo-and-video/used-lenses/used-nikon-fit-lenses/sigma-70-200mm-f-2-8-ex-dg-os-hsm-nikon-fit/sku-1223113/)  NIKON 24-70MM AFS LENS - https://www.mpb.com/en-uk/used-equipment/used-photo-and-video/used-lenses/used-nikon-fit-lenses/nikon-af-s-24-70mm-f-2-8e-ed-vr/ (https://www.mpb.com/en-uk/used-equipment/used-photo-and-video/used-lenses/used-nikon-fit-lenses/nikon-af-s-24-70mm-f-2-8e-ed-vr/)  ZEISS 21MM LENS - https://www.mpb.com/en-uk/used-equipment/used-photo-and-video/used-lenses/used-nikon-fit-lenses/zeiss-milvus-21mm-f-2-8-zf-2-nikon-fit/sku-1143774/ (https://www.mpb.com/en-uk/used-equipment/used-photo-and-video/used-lenses/used-nikon-fit-lenses/zeiss-milvus-21mm-f-2-8-zf-2-nikon-fit/sku-1143774/)  ZEISS 25MM LENS - https://www.mpb.com/en-uk/used-equipment/used-photo-and-video/used-lenses/used-nikon-fit-lenses/zeiss-milvus-25mm-f-1-4-zf-2-nikon-fit/sku-1186357/... Dr Alexander Mustard MBE, better known as Alex Mustard, has been taking underwater photographs since he was just 9 years old and has worked as a full time underwater photographer since 2004. Alex has a PhD in Marine Ecology and his combination of subject-matter expertise, underwater photography experience, technical innovation and sheer passion for what he does makes him one of the absolute best in the world at what he does. Alex photography has won many awards including European Wildlife photographer of the Year in 2013, 4x category wins in the British Wildlife Photography Awards and the ADEX Award for Extraordinary Contrubidon to Underwater Photography in 2016. In 2018, he was made an MBE for his achievements as an underwater photographer. He is the inventor of Magic Filters, a filter system specifically for underwater photography, he is the associate editor of http://Wetpixel.com (Wetpixel.com) an online community for underwater photographers and he teaches underwater photography workshops all around the world. So, its fair to say we're talking to an expert here!  I know nothing about this kind of photography so it was fascinating for me to sit with Alex and just witness his sheer enthusiasm for what does. Alex simply overflows with experience, expertise, field craft and an incredible knowledge of the wildlife and ecosystems he photographs. It's a real privilege to have him on the show so I hope you enjoy my conversation with Alex Mustard. Trevor Cole is a travel and documentary photographer from Northern Ireland. Trevor's career as a geography teacher has taken him all around the world and his incredibly atmospheric photographs of South Sudanese herdsmen won him the Travel Photographer of the Year People and Culture prize in 2019. I liked Trevor's photography before I spoke to him but hearing how he goes about his work and how much passion and respect he has for the people and places he shoots gives me an even greater appreciation for what he does. Our conversation covers Trevor's childhood growing up among the troubles in Northern Ireland, how a road trip to North Africa changed his life, the keys to taking a great portrait and much much more. Whether photographing your own garden or the sculpted acreage of the Rockefellers, following the light and finding infinite new angles to present the flora is time well spent. That is the clear takeaway from this week’s episode of the B&H Photography Podcast with photographer Larry Lederman. However, we also discuss practical tips on bracketing, histograms, tripods, and zoom lenses for medium format cameras. It really is a nice chat with a photographer who has found pleasure in photographing not only his own garden, but some of the most immaculate gardens, both public and private, on the East Coast. Lederman is the author of six books featuring his botanical and horticultural photography, including the upcoming Garden Portraits: Experiences of Natural Beauty, which will be published by The Monacelli Press on October 13, 2020 and is available for pre-order. He has photographed for the New York Botanical Garden and other famed gardens in the New York area and brings a perspective that, forgive me, sees the forest for the trees.  He understands blending the universal with the personal and capturing his impression of the natural and designed beauty while also illustrating the unique essence that the gardener, landscape architect, or owner has created. Largely self-taught as a photographer, Lederman discusses his transition from using Leica M system cameras to the Nikon D850 and the Pentax 645Z system.  We also talk about his preference for zoom lenses, the relationship he feel between architecture and landscape photography, his technique when approaching a new space, and the need to return to a garden in all four seasons, often starting in winter, in order to fully understand and depict these spaces that are both natural and human-made.  Join us for this informative chat and let us know in the Comments section the tricks and techniques you use to photograph the gardens in your life. Also join Larry Lederman as he leads a webinar for B&H on October 28, 2020. Guest: Larry Lederman Photograph © Larry Lederman

Ray Collins’s portraits of waves are hard to describe because you don’t want to describe them. Like the wave itself, the photographic abstraction refuses words; indescribable and amorphous become unique and powerful in his hands. One look at his work and it’s clear that he is in his element in the surf, transforming what he knows so well into a profound and universal statement.  We have been looking forward to speaking with Collins for a while, and are very pleased to present our conversation with him on this week’s episode of the B&H Photography Podcast. We start our chat asking how he went from being a coal miner in New South Wales, Australia, to a photographer, and then melding that new love with his first love, surfing and the ocean. It’s a good story and it gets better as we learn how he transitioned from surf photography to fine-art photography and book publishing. We ask about working in the ocean, the dangers, “knowing” certain waves, and the ability to maneuver his gear and body to anticipate the photos he wants to capture. We also discuss the gear he uses, from his Nikon D850 to Aquatech housing, to the surprising range of lenses he uses in the water. We also discuss the non-photo equipment he needs to stay afloat and navigate.   After a short break, we discuss his post-process decisions and how he looks for texture as much as color when deciding upon which images he prefers. Interestingly, for a photographer whose color work is so gorgeous, Collins is color blind and he talks about how he has turned that into an advantage for him. We also chat about printmaking and book publishing with this incredibly talented and friendly photographer. Join us for an inspiring conversation and check out the work of Ray Collins.

What is Budget Photography? For many aspiring photographers, the idea of using used or older equipment may seem to limit their photography, however with the right technique, you can deliver photography that competes with top photographers in the industry. The idea of spending a lot of money on equipment certainly brings the perception that your photos will be better, however many photographers in the industry have not even upgraded because they are consistently getting quality photography from older cameras. You don't need the latest and greatest photography equipment to produce stunning photos. With practice and knowledge, you can take your budget-conscious equipment to produce photos many would envy. Consider buying used equipment, become proficient in the equipment you have, and get out and practice.Buying Used Equipment to Start Your Photography BusinessPhotography is an expensive business. One camera and one lens can set you back thousands of dollars. If you include the top of the line or flagship camera and you could spend nearly five thousand dollars or more on just one camera and one lens. For many aspiring photographers, starting out is a challenge because you have not even built up a reputation of being a photographer or even a trusted one. People put a lot of trust in their photographer. For some customers, there is only one shot at getting it right and knowing that they can trust their photographer in an important decision-making factor. So a photographer starting out may choose to buy a Nikon D850 or you can buy a Nikon D810 which is about two thousand dollars less. Some of the DX cameras can produce some high-quality photos for the more budget-conscious photographer. The D7500 has a crop sensor and works well with many lighting systems on the market. The D7500 is a semipro crop sensor camera that can be purchased for just under eight hundred dollars. Many used or refurbished D7500s can be purchased for as little as six hundred. An ideal lens for portraits is the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 AF-S VRII is an excellent choice. This older lens can be purchased for as low as one thousand to thirteen hundred dollars. This lens allows photographers to widen up a frame to 70mm or zoom in to 200mm to completely blur out the background at f/2.8. Essentially you can start your business with a used D810 and Used 70-200mm.Lighting Your SubjectWhile cameras and lenses can be expensive, so can lighting. Being able to properly use light for headshots or portraits can be instrumental in creating images that set you apart from everyone else. A Nikon SB-800 TTL AF Shoe Mount Speedlight can be used to create some amazing photos for less than one hundred dollars. How many do you need? Some photographers will say that they can use one Speedlight, but an ideal option would be using two. One as a primary and one as a rim light. You could probably use a reflector to highlight as needed.Become Proficient at Your CraftUsing your equipment regularly makes you a better photographer. A better photographer will know how to use their equipment in most conditions. Practicing your photography only helps you position yourself and your photography. Knowing your capabilities allows you to know where you stand with other photographers.Want to learn more about how you can generate more leads for your business? We welcome to the B&H Photography Podcast two photographers who have brought their talent and dedication to bear on the complex and beautiful lives that exist on the U.S.-Mexican border. Our first guest is photographer Stefan Falke, who is engaged in a 10-year portrait project called LA FRONTERA: Artists Along the US-Mexican Border, which is dedicated to documenting the “influence that artists have on their community.” He has photographed more than 200 artists, writers, singers, and photographers who live on both sides of the 2,000-mile-long border. With Falke we discuss the development of this project, his style of shooting, how he met the many artists he has photographed, and the complications and joys of shooting in border towns in the U.S. and Mexico. He also discusses how he pared down his camera and lens choices for this project to just his trusty Nikon D850 and a 24-70mm lens. After a short break, we welcome photographer Monica Lozano, who is included in Falke’s project, and describes her portrait session with him in the main market, in Juarez, Mexico. We also discuss her incredible photographic series, which blend documentary and fine art styles to bring awareness to the struggle of migrants in Europe and the Americas. Lozano, a Mexican-American artist with roots in both countries, brings a compassionate yet objective depiction to a complex situation, and she even blends in a touch of humor. With Lozano, we discuss her evolution as an artist, the differing effects that stylized photos have compared to straight documentary, and the resounding need to understand the long and evolving history and culture of “la frontera.” Join us for this compelling conversation and check out the B&H Photography Podcast Facebook Group. Then you convey that emotion with your shutter choice. Josh gets to an awesome location, gets his camera out and thinks "What am I trying to convey? What is speaking to me? Is there motion in the scene? How Do I feel?" and with all this he gets his portfolio worthy shot. 36:26 In the second segment, Josh shares with us the craziest world travel story I may have ever heard! The Fundamentals of Buying a Camera, with Camera Store TV Chris Niccolls

The Stalman Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 14, 2018 82:39

Choosing a camera is not only hard because there are a ton of options out there, there's also a ton of GREAT options. All the big camera manufacturers are making great products but they still have specific strengths and weaknesses depending on what your photographic needs are.

To dive into this in extreme detail I sat down with Chris Niccolls from The Camera Store (http://www.thecamerastore.com) in Calgary, or as you probably know him, host of The Camera Store TV (https://www.youtube.com/thecamerastoretv). I'm pretty familiar with the cameras I own, but TCSTV put every camera through serious real world tests, so I always look to their opinion before I buy a new camera. Entry Budget If you're moving up from a phone to camera for the first time you probably don't want to spend too much until you figure out if this hobby is going to last or not. A few years back it was easy to spot the lower image quality from a cheaper camera, but thats no longer the case. A few hundred bucks can buy most of the image quality you would find in the gear pros use. As you spend more the difference of image quality starts to be smaller, and lot of what you're paying for is improved usability, for example autofocus and ergonomics.

But if you buy the Nikon D3400, Canon T6i or Sony A6000 you can take photos that no one will know aren't coming out of a $10,000 system.
Compact Cameras Smart phones have sucked all the air out of the room for smaller format cameras, but they still have their place. If a big camera feels like too much of burden, you can still get a slight quality boost over your phone with little pocket size cameras like the Panasonic ZS100, Canon G5X or Sony RX100 IV. Because of their small sensor size, they can more easily offer a bigger zoom range that's harder to achieve with larger sensor cameras, great video quality, image stabilization and raw support. Micro Four Thirds This in-between sensor size has really come in to it's own lately, with minimal trade offs in quality and huge advantages in cost and camera size. The only things you're really giving up are extreme low light performance (although that's changing with the Panasonic GH5S) and you'll have a harder time getting bokelicious blurry backgrounds. Check out the Panasonic GH5, Olympus or Fuji XT20 to name only a few of this versatile format. APS-C A lot of people look down on any sensor that is smaller than full frame, but don't forget that many hollywood films are shot on almost example this size of sensor/film, but the cinema version is Super35, which is obviously a way cooler name. In this category image quality is getting close to the plateau, with tons of dynamic range, impressive low light performance and a more affordable selection of lenses than it's bigger brother, full frame. Some cameras to look at are the Canon 80D, Nikon D500 and Sony A6500, which have different strengths but will all make your photography look professional. Full Frame 35mm is most commonly used format for professionals of all time. This is the size of the film you used growing up, it what most of the top of the line lenses are optimized for, and I promise you will love shooting on it. You'll notice a bump in quality from APS-C when you compare dynamic range and low light noise, but let's be honest. You probably want it to get a sexy blur in the background. Every brand has an affordable way to get started, just a buy a 50mm from Canon, Nikon, Sony, or whatever brand you go with and open that aperture wide. If sharp critical focus is important to you try a long lens, like the venerable 70-200mm.

I have a lot to say about camera in this range, since that's typically what I buy, but for now I will just direct you to the Canon 5D IV, Nikon D850, Sony A7RIII and Leica M10. You can get lost all day researching these beautiful machines. That's it You've got your work ahead of you! I just pointed you in a few directions, but now the fun part is scoring the internet for reviews, samples, and tests to find exactly the right match for you. I strongly recommend DPReview for their incredibly in depth camera reviews, and for lenses go to ImagingResource where they do really helpful comparisons. Special Guest: Chris Niccolls.

Hello All! Thanks again for listening and sorry it's been such a long time since the last episode. The summer season tends to do that to us wedding photographers. All work and no play makes for two very dull podcasters. Dave and Paul meet up to watch the new Bladerunner movie so as we had a bit of time prior to the movie we started recording. We continued the rest of the podcast a day or two later. This week we catch up on a load of new tech. Paul got the new Apple iWatch (3rd generation) and tells us all about that. Dave talks about the new Fuji XE3 - he hasn't bought it - yet. The D850 is a hot topic. Has Paul went and got one already? You'll find out soon enough. We also cover the new phones from Apple and Google and well as bunch of other little bits and pieces. Thanks again folks for listening - and we'd love it if you could write a little review on itunes. Are camera companies slacking? Do they lack innovation? Are they slow on the uptake with advancements in transmission standards like WIFI? Is the new Nikon D850 the perfect camera? Was the Nikon D7500 a failure due to artificial market segmentation? There are a lot of questions that we discuss in this episode. This episode was recorded on 09/28/2017. Article mentioned in the video: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=15345455 http://www.dslrbodies.com/newsviews/dumb-things-the-camera.html As it turns out, we agree with a lot of what the dslrbodies.com author said, but the delivery is what is off-putting to us. Sure, camera companies do miss the mark (the Nikon D7500 for example with its single card slot), but they are always improving with that kaizen approach. The D850 is proof that camera manufacturers can innovate and not hold back technology when they want to. Let's hope camera manufacturers start finding alternatives to artificial market segmentation. Here is an example of a "video pan head" that would require a simple hole in the camera forward of the tripod screw to work: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Video_Pan_Head.JPG It basically has a spring loaded pin forward of the tripod screw to keep the attached device aligned. I'm not sure why this isn't a thing in DSLRs.

On this episode #7 “We Shoot Mirrorless” podcast episode for October 2017, Scott and Marco discuss these new products and mirrorless topics:   This show is sponsored by B&H: bit.ly/bhphotodeals   Scott has bought the iPhone 8 Plus and tells us what he thinks about the camera and features. https://bhpho.to/2ziapxR   After using the Olympus TG-5 for a month, Scott shares how he likes using this camera. https://bhpho.to/2ziapxR   GoPro announced the new Hero 6 Black camera. The action camera now features 4K 60P video, 12MP Photos at 30 fps, has enhanced dynamic range, improved image stabilization and better low light performance. https://bhpho.to/2z2dp0i   GoPro also added a cool new 360° action camera to their setup. The GoPro 5.2K 360° Fusion camera captures 18MP still images with a 360° field of view. It has a gimbal-like image stabilization and 360° microphone built in. And the overcapture mode creates some really cool effects. https://shop.gopro.com/cameras/fusion/CHDHZ-101.html   Fuji adds two new lenses to their GFX medium format camera lens lineup. The GF 45mm f2.8 R WR and GF 80mm  f2.8 R LM OIS WR Macro lens both feature Dust & Weather sealing and have Nano GI coating. The 80mm Macro has a 1:1 magnification and also features a Fluorine coating on the front element to make it less prone to smudging - a feature that we would like to see on all lenses in the future. GF 45mm f2.8 R WR: https://bhpho.to/2zjBEbs GF 80mm  f2.8 R LM OIS WR Macro: https://bhpho.to/2zhrzLY   Fuji is running a GFX promotion in Europe. Save up to EUR 1.300 if you purchase a GFX plus lens between October 1st, 2017 and January 15th, 2018. And this time you don’t have to trade in a qualifying camera. https://bhpho.to/2z1Mguu   Fujifilm will soon offer a software called Fujifilm X Raw Studio that will enable you to use the nice in-camera Raw to jpg engine from your Mac or PC when you attach the camera via USB to your computer. The software should be available in late November 2017. http://www.fujifilm.com/news/n170907_08.html   Profoto is expanding their Air Remote TTL and HSS capable wireless flash transmitters to work with many mirrorless cameras. They now offer versions for mirrorless Olympus, Sony and are about to release a version that works with Fuji cameras. https://bhpho.to/2zhEMVa   Sony has released a FW update for their a9 mirrorless camera. FW version 1.10 improves image quality and fixes some problems like disappearing RAW images when transferring images to certain smartphones. https://www.sony.com.au/electronics/support/e-mount-body-ilce9-series/ilce-9   Marco shares a feature from the Nikon D850 that he would like to see incorporated in future mirrorless cameras, too. Nikon offers a film scan adapter that not only allows you to scan your film negatives in high quality with a single exposure, it also converts the negative image into a positive straight inside the camera. Two thumbs up from Marco for this feature. https://bhpho.to/2z26Gn5 Mirrorless question of the month: Hi Scott and Marco, I am a long time listener of your podcasts and have made the full switch from Nikon DSLR’s to Fuji mirrorless cameras (sorry Scott) ;) last year. I’m currently using a Fuji X-T2 and X-T 20 and have the XF 50-140mm f2.8 lens for my zoom work. Inspired by Scott’s recent PPN - More Gear Show episode about TC’s, I am now considering the purchase of a 1.4x or 2x TC. But a photographer friend has told me, that TC are not a good idea on crop sensor cameras, as there is already an artificial crop happening on the sensor. And the IQ will degrade drastically stronger than on a cropped FF camera. He suggests that I’d rather invest in the Fuji XF 100-400mm f4.5 - 5.6 lens. What do you think? Thanks so much for all of the great shows each month! Johan from Uppsala, Sweden We have a PPN Photo Podcast Network group at Flickr (click link) that is open to our listeners and photos taken with all mirrorless camera brands. If you want to join just let us know through the "request invitation" button on the group and drop us a quick line there. We'll add you to the group then. And please ask for the invite via the web browser and not via the Flickr App. The invite process via the app has not been working reliably. You can also submit an image using the Instagram hashtag #WeShootMirrorless   We have picked our monthly featured photographer and image from our Flickr groups. Our monthly We Shoot Mirrorless feature photo and photographer of the month is: Jose Matutina - “Fisherman by the Angry Sea” (click here) Please support our show by using our B&H affiliate link (click here) that will not cost you a penny more than when you are buying at B&H without our link. And the more this link will be used to buy at B&H, the more giveaways we’ll be able to give back to our listeners through B&H. It really is a “win-win” situation :)   And please share this podcast with your friends and subscribe via iTunes. We would also love to get your feedback. Is there anything that you want us to cover on the show in the future? And we would appreciate if you could take a short moment to rate or post a quick review about our shows on iTunes.   For more information on Scott Bourne follow him on Twitter: @ScottBourne For more information on Marco Larousse follow him on Twitter: @HamburgCam   About this show: On the monthly #WeShootMirrorless episode of the “PPN - Photo Podcast Network” show, Scott and Marco will discuss news from the mirrorless camera world related to innovations, trends, gear and accessories. And they will introduce mirrorless camera brands by interviewing the respective managers of those manufacturers. They will also invite pro photographers who make their living working with mirrorless cameras to share some tips and tricks on their workflow.
