Season 7 is finally here, and as always we begin with our trailer episode. The boys will sit back and review the trailers for the upcoming movies they will be reviewing this season. New to the show? Great! You've made the smartest decision of your life today. A Where to Stick It season centers mostly around the "Movie Challenge". The Movie Challenge pits 4 of the 5 hosts against each other to see who submitted the best movies. Traditionally, it has been Pete vs. Lobo vs. Jax vs. Prospect. However, this season has quite a few new changes. Engineer Bob is not the administer for this season. That honor belongs to Pete. Pete has dubbed this the "Season of Pain" which we'll get into. Each participant submitted 4 movies. This season, the movies were broken out into specific categories of Horror, Action, Drama, and Comedy. Additionally, each participant has a random listener movie that will count towards their score. As with all movies, none of the participants know who's movies are who's. This includes the listener movies they are assigned. To make matters worse, Pete has thrown in 4 of his own movies as well as 1 additional mystery listener. Each movie will be reviewed on a 1-10 scale. If a participant guesses a movie incorrectly, the participant who's movie it was is awarded +1 stump point. This season, if you guess a Pete movie wrong, you can lose up to 2 points. If you incorrectly guess a listener movie, you also lose 1 point. And to top it all off, Pete has created the aptly named "Wheel of Pain". Each week, someone will spin the wheel of pain at the beginning of each episode to see what fate is in store for them. It could be lose a point, it could be gain a point. If we lost you in all this, good, it really doesn't matter. Just kick back and listen to 5 jackasses review movies and yell at each other.  Support the showCatch new episodes of the Where to Stick It Podcast every Tuesday and Thursday. Bob shares his powerful journey from the depths of despair following a painful divorce to finding joy, meaning, and connection in his life. He talks about how he systematically re-engineered his life, transformed his mindset, and embraced personal responsibility to create lasting change. Key Discussion Points: Bob's Journey to Self-Discovery: Bob's life was upended by a painful divorce that nearly destroyed his relationship with his children. His dedication to self-reflection, accountability, and coaching led him to transform his mindset and re-engineer his life. Now, happily remarried with four children, Bob's story serves as a beacon of hope for men feeling lost and disconnected. Intuition and Spiritual Guidance: Bob shares his interpretation of intuition, which he sees as the Holy Spirit guiding his life. He discusses how his faith in Christ and the Holy Spirit has been a constant, even before he consciously accepted it. The Importance of Integrity in Men's Lives: Integrity is crucial for personal growth and maintaining healthy relationships. Bob emphasizes the importance of being honest with oneself and others, sharing examples from his own life where a lack of integrity led to issues. He highlights how the lack of integrity in men can lead to failed relationships and resentment from their partners. Navigating Divorce and Its Emotional Stages: Bob recounts the stages of emotions he experienced before, during, and after his divorce. Before the divorce: Bob struggled with depression for years, feeling overwhelmed by unresolved childhood wounds and marital issues. During the divorce: The process was highly challenging, exacerbated by his ex-wife's reaction to his new relationship, leading to a fierce battle over custody and assets. After the divorce: Bob's journey of recovery took years, during which he gradually resolved his unresolved issues and found peace and fulfillment. Coaching and Helping Men Find Purpose: Bob discusses how he now dedicates his life to helping other men through coaching, focusing on rediscovering purpose, enhancing relationships, and embracing their authentic selves. He talks about the role of connection, integrity, and purpose in men's lives, and how these elements are crucial for lasting personal transformation. http://www.menbecomingbettermen.com https://www.instagram.com/therelationshipengineer https://www.tiktok.com/@therelationshipengineer info@dougbeitz.com dougbeitz.com facebook.com/dougbeitz instagram.com/dougbeitz

Come with us listeners, back to the mist-shrouded 1980s, when hair was big and the Walkman was king, and sword and sorcery films were abundant. Why were there so many sword and sorcery films in that decade? Perhaps it was the lucky convergence of a number of things: the rise in popularity of Dungeons and Dragons, the prevalence of fantasy art such as the Hildebrandt Brothers, Boris Vallejo, and of course, Frazetta, the Marvel Conan comics, and other factors. While there were a number of terrible movies produced in the genre during this period, there were also some excellent or at least entertaining ones. Your crew will be discussing six of their favorites.Excalibur (1981) is a John Boorman film, and it looks absolutely beautiful. A retelling of the Arthurian legend, it has a dreamlike feeling, in an England that is moving from a magical realm to one ruled by Christianity. Highlights include Nichol Williamson as a very otherworldly Merlin, and a fantastic soundtrack that features classical music including Wagner. It is well worth seeing if you haven't!Highlander (1986) is something that started as a good idea, but suffered in the execution. Immortals scattered across the globe must battle until there is only one left -"There can be only one." When an immortal kills another immortal they gain the energies of that person and all the people they have killed. It had nice production design and an interesting cast that included Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery, and Clancy Brown, but the story is lacking in parts. Still, it has its high points.Krull (1983) is an odd mix of science fiction and fantasy, with a Prince on a quest to save a Princess from an invading alien known as The Beast. He gathers a rag tag band of thugs, sorcerers and even a cyclops to help him on his rescue mission. He also acquires a magical weapon called the Glaive, which is essentially a large throwing star that always returns to his hand. Clearly influenced by Star Wars as well as fantasy films, Krull is definitely cheesy, but fun.Dragonslayer (1981) has what is still one of the best-looking dragons in all of cinema history, Vermithrax Pejorative. The film follows a young sorcerer's apprentice who tries to rid a village of a terrible dragon. This was a Disney production and featured work by ILM and Phil Tippett. The dragon was animated with Tippett's Go Motions process, and full-size pieces were also used (and a World War II flamethrower was used for the dragon's breath!). This is a cool and unique film well worth seeing.Conan the Barbarian (1982) is probably the premiere sword and sorcery film of the 80s. Nothing quite says sword and sorcery like Conan. Directed by John Milius and with a story from Oliver Stone, this film has a very hard, almost nihilistic edge. Conan sees his parents and village slaughtered in front of him as a child, is chained to the "wheel of pain" from adolescence into young adulthood, forced to become a gladiator, and freed to find his own way, in which he seeks revenge. It's hard to imagine anyone other than Arnold Schwarzenegger playing the Cimmerian. He was perfect for the role. The film also has terrific production values. It just looks like a fully realized world. The battles are exciting and most of the time it actually is Arnold in those scenes -they couldn't find a stunt man to double for him! If you haven't seen it, or it's been a while, check this out.Conan the Destroyer (1984) was the follow up to the first film and unlike the first film, this one was PG. It's obvious they wanted to reach a younger audience, but Conan loses some grit because of this. The production design also suffers some in this film. Still, there's much to enjoy, as this is a more straight-forward adventure where Conan builds a band of adventurers to obtain a magical item for a queen who offers to bring back his lost love, Valeria. Go into this one with reduced expectations and you'll probably get a kick out of it.We know there are many other sword and sorcery films from the 80s and we have certainly left out one of your favorites. Feel free to let us know what movie you would include on your list of favorites. For our Sensor Sweep, we have a completely unrelated item that Engineer Bob is excited about: the Godzilla pinball machine! Stern Pinball has partnered with Toho International to produce a line of Godzilla pinball machines. Godzilla and his kaiju allies fight off invading monsters like Ghidorah, Gigan, and Megalon. Players can also interact with the machine using a QR code reader.  There will be three versions -pro, premium, and limited edition - and they will range from $6,899 to $10,499. So if you got the dough -check out this link: https://sternpinball.com/game/godzilla/That's all this time.  What's that buzzing past your shoulder? A tiny fly? How annoying! Now imagine that you and that fly have somehow become inextricably joined, with you taking on the traits and even the physical aspects of the insect. This is the horror of The Fly, both the original 1958 film and the 1986 remake. On this episode we explore the concepts and stories of The Fly films, including the later sequels of the original film. We are joined once again by our good friend and honorary crew member, Lord Blood-Rah!The original film was based on a short story that appeared in (of all places) Playboy magazine. A scientist experimenting in teleportation accidentally merges himself physically with a fly in a failed experiment and gradually loses his humanity. The film largely follows the short story.  Vincent Price stars as the brother of the scientist, in a rare sympathetic role. David Hedison (billed as Al Hedison) plays the scientist, driven to perfect teleportation, but tragically doomed by his own ambition. Your Planet 8 crew discusses the the film in detail.Naturally we compare it to the 1986 Jeff Goldblum remake. Obviously the David Cronenberg-helmed 1986 film was much more grotesque, focusing on body horror, on the absolute degradation of the transformation. But it is also a love story, with Geena Davis playing the romantic interest. Certainly there's a lot going on in the film that speaks to fear of what can happen to us and our bodies that is timeless. There's also a lot of plain goofing around in this episode too, but hey, what did you expect? This episode's Sensor Sweep is from Chef Engineer Bob. Appropriately he shares the book, The Fly at 50, from Bear Manor Media (it's readily available at Amazon). Everything you want to know about the making of this sci-fi classic is in this book.Bob also reminds us that there's still time to get tickets for Godzilla's Monster Bash at the Balboa Theater in San Francisco, held May 14-16. We've only mentioned him before, but today we go all out with our love for that mysterious and dangerous, yet misunderstood, monster from the depths - the Creature from the Black Lagoon! If you've been listening to Planet 8 for any length of time, you've probably heard us heap praises on Creech, but now we have a whole episode devoted to the Gill-Man.Engineer Bob with Creech in Bob Burn's placeWhat is it about the Creature that makes him so appealing? Certainly he has a fantastic look. His design was ahead of his time, and so has become a classic. Your Planet 8 crew discusses that amazing suit, and some differences in the design for the water scenes versus land. There's been a lot of awareness of Millicent Patrick's role in designing the Creature lately, and we touch on that, as well as the work of Jack Kevan, Chris Mueller, and Bud Westmore. And of course, the men who wore the suit on land and underwater, Ben Chapman and Ricou Browning, must be recognized. We'll take a look at each of the films (Creature from the Black Lagoon, Revenge of the Creature , The Creature Walks Among Us), and which is our favorite -and you might be surprised! And what would a fourth Creature film have been like? It's hard to discuss the Creature without talking about his desire for human ladies -of course in the first film, it was Julie Adams, and the sequence with the Creature swimming below her has become iconic. This leads into a discussion of Shape of Water...We all have our Creature Collectibles -Bob has a whole basement devoted to the Creature. His favorite Creature item though, is his Bally pinball machine. Karen's favorite (which she's mentioned many times before) is the Sideshow premium format figure of the Creature swimming. It’s finally happened... in honor of Engineer Bob’s anniversary of existence, the ghost gals have decided to bestow upon him the bestest of bday gifts, and do an episode on stupid ghost trains. Melissa gets the ghost train a’rollin’ with the tale of Stockholm’s Silver Arrow, a distopian train that chuga-chugas to a derilict station, and never lets its passengers get off, paired with Coor’s Light. Vanessa take us off the rails (per ususal) and brings things stateside with the story of The Lincoln Special, a very special train for a very dead president, complete with skeleton musicans and mourning dildos. Who will win in the battle neither ghost gal wanted to have... Engineer Bob, or course! Happy Birthday dude, and may ghost trains die with your youth.

Anaheim Breweries; Part Two - Beer Harder. After the ghost crew gave Anaheim breweries a good tongue lashing in the Disney beer nugget, they decided to give the city a chance to redeem itself in the ears of beer drinkers everywhere. This whirlwind day of SoCal suds started off at Unsung Brewery, a newcomer to the Anaheim scene with a bitching comic book theme and some throughly tasty brews. Then we move over to Bruery Terreux where they make a good beer, and then ruin it by putting a bunch a random shit it in. And the finale of the day was at Bottle Logic, which drew in Engineer Bob with some Star Wars themed beers and won everyone over with their delicious, delicious offering. All and all, not a bad day for beer. That'll do, Anaheim. That'll do.

Disney drunk is the best kind of drunk! In this Beer Nugget the BnB crew visits Mickey and his friends at Disney's California Adventure for their Food & Wine Festival, which features several local beers from all over California. There's a NorCal vs SoCal beer showdown and we pick a winner, because this is Boos and Brews and we like to make everything into a competition. And then we sample some local Anaheim offerings, which may or may not taste like gasoline and have caused Engineer Bob to grimace like Grumpy. Also, why is there not a Drunky the dwarf? Or maybe Sleepy was always a little day-drunk and trying to nap? These are the questions we ponder while eating cotton candy and sipping down some California suds in the house of the mouse.

13 may be considered an unlucky number in most of the world, but here at Boos and Brews, it's our favorite! We decided to take episode #13 and make it into an anniversary episode, where we celebrate the podcast for making it through 13 weeks of offensive accents, beer burps, Lil'John impersonations, geography nerds, yelling at Engineer Bob, and #feminism. The BnB gang goes back to the haunted location that started it all... the Colorado Street Suicide Bridge, where they had their own ghostly experience with a giggling little boy. And then they head over to Stone's nearby Company Store Pasadena where they have ALL the IPA's (well, Vanessa and Engineer Bob have them all and Melissa takes one sip and makes a face). No losers this week, as both GhostGal's are winners for being able to bring you guys their favorite scary stories, and drink some tasty beers. Thanks for listening, y'all!

Nothing calms the heat of the scorching Arizona sun like a crisp, cold beer! In this Beer Nugget Vanessa fills in Melissa and Engineer Bob on her recent trip to the Valley of the Sun and the 6 local breweries she visited... for research purposes only... totally not to drink all the beers on vacation and call it work. She breaks down the offerings from Uncle Bear's Brewery, Helio Basin Brewing Co, Wren House Brewing Co, Helton Brewing Co, Mother Brunch, and Sun Up. She also brings in samples from other AZ breweries, SanTan and Four Peaks. Arizona beer is quite different from SoCal beer, and boy does the BnB team have some thoughts on the flavor profiles. Good thoughts? Bad thoughts? This beer is terrible and undrinkable thoughts? Listen and find out!
