Fooda is a food technology platform that connects restaurants to people while at work, has received $45M in funding, and currently has 250 employees in 20 cities.  He has a great take on goal setting that keeps people accountable, brings transparency to the entire organization, and keeps the team moving in the same direction.  Orazio's milestone approach to managing growth (vs. a calendar-based approach), makes sure that expenses don't outpace revenue as Fooda scales to new locations.  Who does Orazio see executing? Jonathan Treble joins and talks about his path from Wharton grad to startup employee to Founder/CEO of PrintWithMe. He also talks about building his company, and the practical milestones he set. His advice for founders who are fundraising?  1. Optimize for control over valuation when negotiating at early stages. 2. Validate with the smallest team that you can, because, really, more money means more problems.    He also talks about team building, which is something Jonathan excels at. They use the “Culture Index” to guarantee culture fit, which is incredibly important. He talks mistakes, onboarding, and recommends two books that created his own foundation for recruiting:  “Who” by Geoff Smart and “Recruit Rockstars” by Jeff Hyman  Who does Jonathan see executing? How an early experience with this Dad planted the seed for the Challenge Culture and became a cornerstone of his leadership philosophy. Nigel's favorite challenge question. How to challenge a leader without being irritating. Using silence to get the answers. Nigel's workout regimen and how he uses that time to reflect. What he says to leaders who believe the Challenge is like "opening Pandora's Box?" 3 big lessons he learned from leading Blockbuster and Papa Johns. How to use challenge culture when coaching kids' soccer. He's been coaching soccer for 51 seasons! Why he has his players call him “Nigel”, not “Coach Nigel”. The one trait he would instill in every employee. How 20 years of human resource experience uniquely prepared him for the C-Suite. The REAL impact of employee turnover that too many leaders miss.  The story of him quantifying the cost of employee turnover for Burger King of $42M..and that was in 1989…imagine how costly that would be today! How has the Dunkin Challenge Culture been helpful during the Pandemic, especially when considering store closures? A failure Nigel had at Blockbuster that led to success down the road…it's not what you think. HIGHLIGHTS: Steps to take when implementing a Challenge Culture: Think about what's going on before implement Challenge Culture. Start small. Start asking questions and build a dialogue. Build your credibility. QUOTES: “Today is the slowest day we'll see.” "Once you've put a title in front of something, you've put up a barrier." “Horses for courses.” “At the end of the day a business is there to make money, to become more profitable for shareholders.” “People should value silence.” ADDITIONAL RESOURCES: No Rules Rules, Reed Hastings and Erin Meyer...

What's a ghost kitchen & why will we be seeing more of them in the next 12 months?    Among the industries that have adapted the most during the pandemic are restaurants and commercial real estate owners (and in a fight, restaurants would win). We have much to learn about CX from their innovations.   In this episode, I interview Alex Grace, Head of Market Sales and Operations at Fooda, about adaptability and innovation in restaurants.   We talked about:   - The impact of safety restrictions on restaurants & corporate offices   - What a ghost kitchen is   - New dining trends & customer behaviors   - What restaurants can do now to meet customer expectations for adaptability   Subscribe, listen, and rate/review the Customer Experience Podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or Google Play, and find more episodes on our blog.

If you're in entrepreneurship in New York City, you know Joanne Wilson, especially among the women entrepreneurs I talk to. She's prominent in the New York entrepreneurial world, as well as art, travel, foodA lot of investors live stressful lives. Joanne doesn't. As you'll hear in our conversation, she also leads a rewarding life, which you'll also read in any of her blog posts or hear in any of her podcast episodes -- the happiness, fun, and emotional reward she describes her life with. I think it results from her focus on people, relationships, and community.Like any great leader, she focuses on people. The first thing she does after vetting people she invests in is to support them. Our conversation covers more personal leadership, but her success points to what I think environmental leaders could learn from her. Environmental work overwhelmingly focuses on science, politics, compliance, and facts. Until they focus on people, it's hard to call many of them leaders. Seeking compliance or browbeating people with facts, no matter how science-backed, or laws, no matter how well-meaning, won't get results. Nor will people enjoy it and keep doing it after your extrinsic incentives go away. That's why I could only start trying environmental leadership when I found reducing my waste to about 10% of the average American improved my life. Yes it took time, just like Joanne doesn't blindly invest but has to vet people and research.I didn't press her on taking on a new challenge, partly because she told me when I arrived to her office about just having reduced plastic in her office. Partly because she just built her house and is building other new homes that way. Also, I see her around New York, so the next time I see her, I'll ask her if she's done anything new by then. I predict she will have and I'll invite her for a second episode. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Food Addiction - The Neurobiology of FoodA lot of people are afraid of heights. Not me, I'm afraid of widths.~ Steven WrightMicheal Leppo is a food addiction coach on a mission to address diet, weight loss, and self-management through understanding the neurobiology of food, called the You Will Succeed Program. His program is a 22-week video program that explains, provides coaching, and mentors client's regarding how to achieve health and life benefits whilst managing food intake. Please note that this program is more than just a weight loss program. It's a program that is designed to help one live a longer, healthier, more successful life. Personal Notes On Michael"I am a passionate coach who has studied how food (notably processed GMO's, sugar-laden and high carb foods) controls your brain. These fatty foods excite the reward circuit in the brain which in turn release the neurochemical dopamine. Food directly connects with neurobiology. This release of dopamine provides one with a feeling of pleasure on several levels. Eventually, the continued overeating of these types of food desensitizes the feeling of pleasure the dopamine originally provides, which in turn explains in part why one has to eat more and more to regain the feeling of pleasure. These dopaminergic challenges provide an understanding of why someone cannot eat 'only one cookie.'” His Recovery Process"What I set out to do and have achieved is to re-wire the brain to crave only healthy foods. Now, my brain is 99.999% re-wired only to want foods that help my body/engine run at optimal levels." The direct result of re-wiring his own brain includes: A loss of over 70 pounds in 7 months Feeling like I have found the Fountain of Youth. I feel younger, stronger, healthier. I no longer have any interest in processed, high sugar and carb foods. I now crave and get excited to have a delicious piece of fruit or salad. Mentally, I feel like you can put any dessert in front of me and it makes no difference to my resolve. Mentally, I am so much stronger facing any type of adversity. I now look forward to exercising & cannot imagine not doing something for my body & mind every day. I wake up every day feeling like anything is possible. I feel like I can achieve goals I never thought were possible. *Photo by https://unsplash.com/photos/Gwak7T9evEk?utm_source=unsplash&utm_medium=referral&utm_content=creditCopyText (FOODISM360) on https://unsplash.com/@foodism360?utm_source=unsplash&utm_medium=referral&utm_content=creditCopyText (Unsplash) Website http://www.positivedailyfuel.com (www.positivedailyfuel.com) -----------Additional From CBJ Guests On Mind-Body Healthhttp://corebrainjournal.com/109 (CBJ/109) - Thaik - Vibrant Heart Mind and Body Recovery http://corebrainjournal.com//111 (CBJ/111) - Hensely - Adrenal Fatigue and Qualia http://corebrainjournal.com/115 (CBJ/115) - Walsh - Methylation Imbalances & Treatment Failure [Most downloaded CBJ Interview] http://corebrainjournal.com/164 (CBJ/164 )- Lewis et al, Multiple Biomedical Markers - Testing Matters http://corebrainjournal.com/168 (CBJ/168) - Cooper - Transform Stress Into Success http://corebrainjournal.com/183 (CBJ/183) - Trenev - Probiotics Improve Mind Treatments http://corebrainjournal.com/184 (CBJ/184) - Brogaard - Synesthesia, Perceptions & Mind http://corebrainjournal.com/187 (CBJ/187) - Gabelnick - Mothers Fit For Sanity http://corebrainjournal.com/mindset (CBJ/mindset) - Summary Page: Expert Mindset Insights http://corebrainjournal.com/teens (CBJ/teens) - Summary Page: Expert Parenting Insights http://corebrainjournal.com/about (http://corebrainjournal.com/about) Entire CBJ Episode List - Bottom of This Page ---------Forward This Audio Message Link To a Friendhttp://corebrainjournal.com/188 (http://corebrainjournal.com/188) ---------ThanksThanks Michael for joining us here at CBJ to review the latest better brain...

Leaf Trade with President and Chief Revenue Officer, Michael Piermont. In 2015, while newly licensed cannabis companies were starting up, they began to experience some common operational challenges. Processes for moving products wholesale, from sellers to buyers, were outdated and inefficient. At best, the methods were slow, fragmented, and hard to track. At worst, orders were being written on cocktail napkins. These were big businesses operating on a manual system of emails, spreadsheets, and text messages. Leaf Trade knew there was a better way, but it didn't exist yet. So, they built it. Enter Leaf Trade: a better way to buy and sell wholesale cannabis. By 2017, they created a compliant, connected, and reliable technology solution for licensed cannabis growers, cultivators, retailers, and dispensaries—one with product quality and client success at its center. Michael Piermont joined Leaf Trade in March 2019. In his role as President and Chief Revenue Officer, Michael oversees company strategy, sales, customer success, and marketing. His successful track record in tech company leadership includes roles at CareerBuilder, Fooda, ECOFIT, Fanchest, and amSTATZ, the latter two of which he co-founded and helped reach acquisition. Outside of Leaf Trade, Michael serves in several important roles, including #girldad, sneaker collector, and golfer. One of his other claims to fame is placing second in a worldwide Seinfeld trivia competition.
