Matt Tack, co-host of the Full-Fueled Podcast with Dr. Alfred Alessi, powered by Nootricious, champions the Forever Athlete concept, through six key pillars: Fuel, Movement, Sleep, Mind, Work, and Spirit, which Neil and Matt discuss in this episode of the Neil Wilkins Podcast. Matt goes deep into the importance of goal setting, how to become driven by feeling rather than targets, and why reverse engineering back from your 85 year old self, is the best way to become a forever athlete. “I may not be a fast runner, but I'm getting a little bit better every day…. Some of the best athletes in the world will tell you, I fell in love with the process.” Matt Tack Connect with Matt http://fitness.fullfueled.com Subscribe to the Neil Wilkins Podcast https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/neilwilkins Visit Neil Wilkins Online http://neilwilkins.online

At the age of 4, Cory Camp fell into a pool almost drowning before being saved by his father, an elite swimmer which sparked his own interest in the sport. At age 17, he collapsed and hit his head due to an electrical malfunction in his heart, but a coach showed him the power of psychological safety allowing him the freedom to keep pursuing his dream. After his elite swim career ended, his sense of identity foreclosure led to severe alcohol use, depression, weight gamin and body image struggles. Cory's story is one of continuous vulnerability leading to being saved leading to the mindset of nothing to lose leading to strength and success. He has chosen to use his experiences by becoming a Life Optimization Coach and Community Builder for former athletes to find themselves beyond sport and access the “zone” into daily life. His company “Forever Athlete” embodies a mission to help athletes feel less alone after that last whistle while helping them realize their calling isn't over because they don't play their sport like they once did. @corycamp, www.forever-athlete.com

OH, FOMO, BINGE DRINKING, AND PARTY CULTURE! In this episode, we sit down with, Cory Camp, an ex-national swimmer turned life coach and founder of Forever Athlete Radio. Cory opens up about his journey throughout his early twenties from pro swimmer to navigating the adult world and how FOMO, binge drinking, and party culture, took control of his life steering wheel. Cory shares how he was able to get back in the driver's seat through sobriety, ultimately taking his life from 0-100. You'll leave this episode knowing how to pause, look internally, and make decisions that are in alignment with your truest self REGARDLESS of pure pressure, what's "normal" as a twenty-something-year-old, and judgment from others.Syllabus Steps: AND ALSO THINKING:” I can do this AND ALSO do that.”i.e: “I can decide not to drink tonight AND I can ALSO connect on a deeper level with people and wake up tomorrow morning feeling alive. The Result: i.e. “now I have thee the energy to build sustainable momentum toward my social, personal, or career bank, etc.!”BE SOBER CURIOUS. The more variety of experience you can add into any relationship, the more dynamic and stable the relationship becomes. Try planning activities with friends that involve limited to no alcohol (i.e. cooking dinner, bowling, hiking, exercise class, dancing, trying new restaurants). Choose activities that hold space to deepen connection,‘How to' not drink? Commit to something and hold yourself accountable for an activity the next morningi.e. go for an early morning run, pay for a group workout/ exercise class, or plan a meeting for your personal biz with someone else)Create space and quietness. Sit with yourself, and put the phone away. You never know what might come up from the voice inside that is typically suppressed. Through discomfort, you have clarity on the other end. But the secret sauce is deciding to sit and work through it.Self-reflection. Take the time necessary to look at yourself in your internal mirror. Ask yourself; “what's working? what's not working? Then clean your mirror: do more of what's working and less of what's not.Brainstorm a list of what makes your soul light up (i.e. when I do XYZ it makes me feel this way).Go through the list before the beginning of each week, and select from the menu which of the activities you're implementing that week or month.Actively schedule this into your calendar.Reflect: at the end of each week ask yourself: “did you make this happen?” If yes, amazing, how do you feel? In today's world, everyone is a creator. But how do you separate yourself from the masses and actually provide value when you create? That's something I've been fascinated to know and I sought out my friend, JT Barnett to find out how he does it. JT is a founder, creator, and strategist. He's built multiple TikTok accounts including @honeyhouse, @jtandsami, and @jtbarnett which together amass over 1.5M Followers. Our guest this week is Matteo Franceschetti. An athlete his entire life, Matteo has always been obsessed with performance. First, it was athletics. Then business. Now, sleep. The first two pursuits - athletics and business - lead to many sleepless nights, rationalized by the pursuit of record performance. It was Matteo's quest for more restorative sleep, in fact, that led him to quit his previous life and launch Eight Sleep, a company dedicated to fueling human potential through optimal sleep, and to turning the bed into a seamless health platform for improved health, performance, and longevity. Sleep impacts everything from focus and memory retention, to risk of all sorts of mental health disorders, body composition, cancer risk, life expectancy - you name it, sleep effects it. I've been reading the book Why We Sleep , and in the book the author, Matthew Walker, even goes to far as to posit the question - “While most people ask - why did living organisms begin sleeping? - I think the more pertinent question may be why did we ever wake up”. Life is traumatic. Sleep is restorative. You action plan this week is incredibly simple - Get 7.5 hours or more of sleep every night this week if at all possible. This means giving yourself a sleep opportunity of closer to 8.5 hours of sleep - meaning about 8.5 hours of time in bed to achieve the 7.5 hours of sleep. And just take note of ALL the wonderful things you feel at the end of the week. While you're getting all this wonderfully restorative rest - go check out EightSleep.com and, if you're feeling like you really want to put all your newfound energy and focus to work - Check out “Why We Sleep” by Matthew Walker. Do these things and You'll never look at your bed the same way again!Whats Next - That's it for this week. Make sure you're subscribed to this podcast so that you don't miss next week's episode with Cory Camp, founder of Forever Athlete, and a conversation about human connection, training for a marathon, getting uncomfortable, the struggles that athletes face when their careers come to an end. That's it for this week. Welcome back to another episode of Discover More. "A lot of us gravitate really easily to that label. And it's interesting to observe you're describing who you are as a way that you show up for someone else. How do you show up for yourself? That's one of the themes that keeps coming up in this conversation. How do you make yourself proud? What goes into that? That's where your identity is." - Cory Camp This week, we continue our conversation with Cory Camp. Cory is a personal performance coach, podcast host, and the founder of the Forever Athlete brand & community. This week's episode begins with the story of Cory's two solo marathons… That's right, he ran two marathons completely unassisted. This experience taught him about the power of momentum in redefining and achieving the impossible. By seeking discomfort, our boxes of possibility expand. We also discuss the importance of sleep & recovery when striving towards peak performance. Welcome back to another episode of Discover More. "One of the things that coach of mine actually helped me work through was creating a 'To Be List. So setting intentions first for the day, and then with those intentions, they run your to-do list. So what I mean by that is instead of on my to-do list today, being I need to record a podcast with you guys, I need to do whatever, it becomes: all right how do I want to be today? That's the first question that I'm asking when I wake up. So getting clear on those intentions I think goes a long way." - Cory Camp This week's guest is Cory Camp. Corey is a personal performance coach, podcast host, and the founder of the Forever Athlete brand and community. As a former swimmer and record holder at the University of Delaware, Cory recognizes the hidden mental health challenges in athletics, and has committed himself to bring awareness to these issues and helping former athletes lead healthier lives. He hosts the Athletic Mindset podcast, which is dedicated to taking a deeper look into the mental approach of elite athletes. And his brand, Forever Athlete brings together athletes of all backgrounds to build community and grow together. In this episode, Cory shares some powerful stories from his collegiate swimming career, as well as his expansive mission behind the Forever Athlete Brand. He also explains some of the strategies he uses with coaching clients including, monitoring biofeedback, balancing internal & external motivators, and finding your flow. Cory is an incredible human & coach, and we had so much fun talking with him. We hope you enjoy this week's episode of Discover More with us and Cory Camp. We are joined by a fellow Forever Athlete, podcast host of the Coach's Playground Podcast, soon to be author, founder of Maverick Coaching Academy and all around great human, Gavin McHale. Gavin, much like myself, followed the rules, growing up playing hockey and going on to get his degree in Kinesiology, but after some time of going that more traditional route, realized he kept trading his time for money. This sent him on a journey to find a better way and eventually founded Maverick Coaching Academy to help other personal trainers build their hybrid businesses. Today highlights a lot of that journey for Gavin: -How he went from playing pro hockey to where he is today -The ups and downs in between and how he's been able to find himself beyond what he does for a living Gavin and I have a book coming out in the next month or so all around athlete identity and what that true self actually means and we get into that here today too. Cory Camp, is a personal performance coach that analyzes how our mindset affects the rest of our lives. Cory, like me, I grew up a swimmer. And for 18 years of his life, it was all he really knew. Upon graduating college and his Division I sports career ending, Cory realized he wasn't prepared for this whole "real life" thing. A year went by and he found himself lost, and 40 pounds heavier than when he'd graduated. That was the turning point and the moment he had to get his S*%^ together. Cory has spent every moment since turning his life around and reintroducing purpose and intention to it. Through fitness, lifestyle choices, and neuroscience, he's figured out a system that works to optimize life. Now he's passionate about helping other former athletes find their optimal plans to embody being a Forever Athlete. Cory and his clients tap back into the Athletic Mindset and how it can best serve us now, in the "real world." In this episode, we discuss: - What it means to find your “flow” state - How to successfully navigate your personal and professional path post-college athletics - The importance of being a beginner again--and embracing that position - The 22 flow triggers, some of which include: clear goals, intense listening, complete concentration, and shared goals - Cory's list of non-negotiables: sleep, a daily exercise practice, a daily mindfulness practice, and a daily gratitude practice This conversation is brought to you by Paleovalley. Do things seem to be not making sense? Are you beating yourself up for not living up to your own expectations? How about learning to surrender and think from a place of abundance? Then, start to see the magic happen from there. Cory Camp grew up a swimmer for 18 years of his life. Upon graduating and with his sports career-ending, he realized he wasn't prepared for this whole "real life" thing. A year went by, and he found himself lost, 40 pounds heavier than when he graduated. That was the turning point for him and the moment he had to get his S*%^ together. He spent every moment since turning his life around and reintroducing purpose and intention to it. Through fitness, lifestyle choices, and neuroscience, he figured out a system that works to optimize life. Now, he's passionate about helping other former athletes find their optimal plan to embody being a Forever Athlete. He taps back into the Athletic Mindset and how it can best serve everyone now, in the "real world." In this episode, Cory shares how he brought swimming to the next level, getting better at it, getting a scholarship, and getting paid for what he does. His being a swimmer, getting his share of success, and his fair share of failures has taught him lessons in his personal life and career as a coach. What those failures paved for him, he can only be thankful for, as it brought him to where he is today in his coaching career. He has a lot to teach about growth mindset as he relates that story about him desperately wanting to improve. That also points out to accepting that you have your own timeline, that you need to swim your own race, and to take feedback from your own experience and situation. So you show up better and find ways to improve. With social media portraying everything as perfect, there's the danger of falling into the comparison trap. What better way to avoid it than finding inspiration from what others have, taking a system that has already worked and adding your own flavor to it and making it your own. He could not stress enough the importance of having to come from a place of abundance. Because once you have that mindset, you will never be in want of anything. You radiate positive energy that draws the right people to you. That also speaks truly of when you do things to serve others and not just go after their money because people can sense that. All these extend to also showing up and giving value and making them feel it's in their best interest. "We have to be able to shift into that space of abundance of like; I already have everything. It's all within me. And that's contagious energy too. Like, when we are able to truly embody that and then show up as that in the world, then people want to be around us." - Cory Camp What you will learn from this episode: 04:14 - How he got into swimming and made it to the collegiate level 07:56 - What freedom does swimming give him? 10:20 - The time he felt the lightbulb taking swimming to the next level 13:45 - Rising to the occasion 17:32 - Lessons in the growth mindset 20:36 - Doing away with the comparison trap 23:39 - Taking the system that has already worked and put your own flavor to it 25:47 - Failure as a great flashlight 25:47 - How contagious your energy becomes when you come from a place of abundance 28:40 - Setting the better intention of serving than just getting money 31:55 - Stories from his college scholarship and lessons learned 42:58 - Actually working for it to happen and not just wishing for it to happen 47:03 - Showing your value add and what it can do for you 50:18 - What's the idea behind spearheading writing a book 'Forever Athletes' with Gavin and many others more 56:42 - The magic in storytelling Connect with Cory Camp: https://www.corycamp.com/ https://www.instagram.com/corycamp/ Connect with Gavin McHale https://www.maverickcoachingacademy.ca/ Linkedin Instagram
