The Top 100 Project

Bullitt is famous for its car chase (an action scene that many movies have tried---and usually failed---to equal or surpass), but this police thriller has got so much more going for it than just that. As for this being called an action film, well, it's actually more of a murder mystery. Steve McQueen is his trademark Mister Cool, but his romance with Jacqueline Bissett also gives him humanity. It's not like the beautiful actress gets to do much more than that though. Bullitt's biggest problem, however, is that there are some confusing plot turns that don't always make sense. All those topics are discussed in Ryan's solo show that focuses on one bad weekend in the heart of San Francisco. The 523rd Have You Ever Seen is a brief one, so lock in for just over a half-hour monologue about Peter Yates' cop classic. Our sponsor is Sparkplug Coffee. And did you know that if you're the guy wearing the fun shirt, you better bring the attitude to go with it? Winifred Jacqueline Fraser Bisset came into this world in the latter days of WWII, in the Fall of 1944 to a Scotch GP and French lawyer cum housewife who biked her way into an airlift out of Occupied France and her new life in the rather rural climes of Surrey. A short modeling career led to roles in such disparate films (in quality as well as  type) as The Knack and How to Get It, Audrey Hepburn vehicle Two For the Road and Roman Polanski's Cul de Sac, launching her into a career in cinema marked by roles in such highlights as The Detective (with Frank Sinatra), Bullitt (with Steve McQueen), Le Magnifique (with Jean Paul Belmondo), The Mephisto Waltz (with Alan Alda) and Truffaut's excellent Day For Night, before settling into big budget all star oddities like the multi-director Casino Royale, Airport, the Albert Finney Murder on the Orient Express, Who is Killing the Great Chefs of Europe (with George Segal), St. Ives (with Charles Bronson), The Deep (with Nick Nolte) and even Wild Orchid (with Mickey Rourke), smoking up the screen in a manner not altogether dissimilar to the previously covered Charlotte Rampling and earning herself both Golden Globes and France's Legion d'Honneur for her efforts.  Join us as we talk another of our favorite ladies of 70's cinema, the lovely and talented Jacqueline Bissett! Truffaut's 1973 ensemble comedy is a movie about making a movie. Jacqueline Bissett was one of the cast members and principal lead. The movie won an Oscar for Best Foreign Film in 1974 with French filmmaker Truffaut accepting the award. It is one of his best films and worth re-watching. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/james-herlihy/message

After a general discussion of John Updike's ability to crank out aphorisms, Hannah and Sam quickly get into their favorite books of 2021. Well, not all that quickly. They first talk about Mark Prins, the Iowa Writers Workshop, and "The Latinist." Obviously, we didn't read all the books last year, so this is just us talking about books we liked a lot. Hannah finished 70 books, Sam thinks he finished about 50, both sampled about 100 total. That's a good go of things, we think. Hannah gets animated about "The Martian." You'll like it. Sam admits to thinking of Richard Powers as "Dick Powers" and being unable to take him seriously.  All told, we talk in some detail about 25 different books.  Also: We couldn't remember that it was Jacqueline Bissett that Andrew McCarthy lived with as a young actor. But it was. Not Brooke Shields. And you should stick around for the finishing discussion on why we love Twitter.

The Number One Movie in America

You want more Jaws? Well this is kinda it! (More than half of the Jaws sequels, anyway.) Robert Shaw, Nick Nolte and a deliberately soggy Jacqueline Bissett star in THE DEEP, that other watery 70s adaptation of a Peter Benchley novel! Plus, is there finally a new Number One Movie in America?

Rob has taken us back to 1983, where we visit the raunchy goings-on of Andrew McCarthy and Jacqueline Bissett in CLASS. Is it an 80's Graduate or a rehash of Animal House? Can't say. I wanted to draft in Jacqueline Bissett and Victoria Pearce to give me, a man preoccupied with televised wrestling, football and zombie fiction, with a very minimal understanding of the world of fashion, a valuable insight from the perspective of two people who have spent over two decades in the industry with great success. Jacqueline Bissett is a leading fashion illustrator signed to Illustration Ltd, where Victoria is a senior agent. The two take us through an entwined journey that began when Vicky's work as a stylist and then a fashion photography agent led her to Jackie, an exciting illustrator creating striking artworks in fashion. The two found their way to Illustration Ltd where Jackie thrives and Victoria plays a key role in the agency's continued global success. I meet the two as Jacqueline prepares to work live at the BAFTAs 2016, armed with a client list that includes Louis Vuitton, Selfridges, Kurt Geiger, Atelier Swarovski and Cartier. Where do we find today's fashion industry? How has the digital revolution influenced fashion and trends? Jacqueline and Vickie pull back the curtain on two very successful, complimentary and inspiring careers in a fast paced business that so many wish to enter. http://www.illustrationweb.com/artists/jacquelinebissett/view Jacqueline's illustration portfolio https://twitter.com/jabissett Jacqueline on Twitter https://www.facebook.com/Jacqueline-Bissett-Ltd-219624968150694/ Jacqueline on Facebook http://illustrationweb.com Illustration Ltd official website https://twitter.com/Illustrationweb Illustration Ltd on Twitter http://instagram.com/illustrationltd Illustration Ltd on Instagram https://www.facebook.com/IllustrationLtd/ Illustration Ltd on Facebook

Sex, Part Deux! For an episode about sex we talk a lot about movies for some reason. There's not much sex in The Avengers, Man Of Steel or Thor but Jon learned everything he knows about women's underwear from the original Superman. Lex gets his information about women's underwear from Shark Tank. Grease is a great movie for learning about sex. Lots of direct references to sex facts that your kid won't understand. "Any questions?" The Godfather is good for teaching your kids about violence. Ace Ventura would be a good movie to teach kids about homophobia. Jacqueline Bissett in The Deep was Intro to Female Anatomy 101 for many a boy during the '70s. Although, Benny Hill is how Moltz learned about female anatomy. If you don't believe that Lex took his kids to a mob-themed restaurant that showed The Godfather movies on repeat, here are some pictures.
