This week the boys cover another View Askew film this time covering Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back! Snoogans! Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back is a 2001 American buddy comedy film written and directed by Kevin Smith, the fifth to be set in his View Askewniverse, a growing collection of characters and settings that developed out of his cult-favorite Clerks. It focuses on the two eponymous characters, played respectively by Jason Mewes and Smith. The film features cameo appearances from Jason Lee, Ben Affleck, Joey Lauren Adams and Shannen Doherty among many others. The title and logo for Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back are direct references to The Empire Strikes Back. Follow us! In this episode we try Smodcast ‘Have a Week' Juicy Pale Ale and the Jay & Silent Bob ‘Beers! Beers! Beers! Both beers made in Vancouver by Main Street Brewing. Named after the eponymous weekly podcast that features Kevin and his long-time producing partner Scott Mosier aka @samosier — who met right here in Vancouver while both were attending film school back in the day — the ‘Have a Week' Juicy Pale Ale has a balanced profile that complements the papaya and citrus notes of the highlighted Mosaic hops and punches in at 5.5% ABV / 30 IBUs. The Jay & Silent Bob ‘Beers! Beers! Beers!' Lager celebrates the dynamic cinematic duo (and Silent Bob's longtime — ahem — Mewes) in a perfectly crisp, clean and easy drinking 4.5% ABV lager for all occasions. Or, y'know, hanging out in front of the neighbourhood Quick Stop. It's inspired by Jay's rap from the iconic Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back entry in the View Askewniverse. I assure you we're podcasting this week about Kevin Smith's 1994 classic, CLERKS. Raphael takes off his nostalgia tinted glasses & realizes that maybe the film in 2020 isn't the same as it was in ‘94. Raquel sees the a comedic throughline to Sid Caesar and Red Skelton, but also feels confused & on the outside of Star Wars philosophizing – not to mention finds the film maybe a little too pretentious. Which characters are chaotic neutral or chaotic good? Who is a more well rounded character, Veronica or Caitlin? What does a 68 year old mom feel about being introduced to Jay & Silent Bob for the first time? What does her millennial son have to say about San Diego Comic-Con, The Big Bang Theory, Marvel Films, & all the nerdery he's had pent up for the past couple of decades? The Generation Splice is film podcast where retired psychologist Dr. Raquel Martinez, a Baby Boomer through and through, and her son Raphael Jose Martinez, a cranky Millenial punk rocker, former music journalist, and current film writer, discuss various films through the lens of their generation & personal experiences. Every week one host picks a film for the two of them to dissect and see if they can splice together the generation gap via their love of the movies. Feel free to write to us! Give us some film suggestions at generationsplice@gmail.com or @gensplicepod on Twitter. Raphael is on Twitter at @citycelluloid. You can find his film writing at cinefile.info and film-cred.com The show is produced by The Martinez Family & the show's theme song was written, performed, & produced by Raphael.

Our latest guest on Soundtracking could not be more suited to a podcast about film music, what with him being so knowledgable and passionate about both artistic forms. Kevin Smith burst onto the indie scene with his 1994 lo-fi slacker classic Clerks, which he shot for around $28,000 only to see it receive widespread critical acclaim and gross $3 million. It also introduced the world to Jay and Silent Bob, who have featured in many of his subsequent movies - getting their latest outing in Jay & Silent Bob Reboot. It's riotous good fun, whether you're familiar with their history or not. A prolific podcaster himself, Kevin is bloody cracking company, with stories to tell about the music in pretty much all of his work, including a corker about Fleetwood Mac. One of our faves, ever!

Back from the San Diego Comic-Con International, we're bringing you an extra special bonus episode. Partnering with the itmodchatcast podcast and Film School Rejects, we spoke to Jason Mewes about his new directorial debut "Madness in the Method" due in theaters and VOD on August 2nd. The chattier side of Jay & Silent Bob, Mewes creates a meta-comedy-commentary about his struggles with typecasting and the mad lengths he's willing to go to break free. Featuring a slew of cameos from the likes of Kevin Smith, Stan Lee, Vinnie Jones, Dean Cain, and Casper Van Dien, "Madness in the Method" is an essential watch for View Askewniverse fans. At the same time, this conversation is a delightfully nerdy one and reveals Mewes to be a comic book geek after our hearts. Much love, Jay. You remember that, with the clerks and the mall and the lesbians who for some reason want to sleep with Ben Affleck. This week we bark up the right tree with CHASING AMY, Kevin Smith's, foul-mouthed rumination on love, lesbians and (Joey) Lauren Adams. Starring van dyked Ben Affleck, Jason Lee, Jay & Silent Bob, Dwight Ewell and a bunch of other Kevin Smith regulars, this movie was notable for portraying queerness on screen at a time when it was still considered risky, making it seem progressive and cool. A movie by Kevin Smith! But how does it hold up today? Listen here to find out and don't forget to subscribe and rate us on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or Stitcher. Can I help you? This week we check out (on life) with CLERKS, the 1994 slacker comedy that launched Kevin Smith's foul mouthed career and introduced us to Jay & Silent Bob, cinema's most congenial small-time drug dealers. Starring Brian O'Halloran, Jeff Anderson, Marilyn Ghighliotti, Lisa Spoonhauer and Jason Mewes, this movie inspired a generation to make overly talky films about their crappy work places and dead end jobs, but how does it hold up now? Listen below to find out. Also, please Subscribe on iTunes or Stitcher. Also, follow us on Twitter. And please consider supporting our Patreon campaign. Special Thanks to our sponsors, Hello Fresh! I am joined by Paul (@slasher_nerd) & Jess (@Flaffygolucky) as we talk about all things Kevin Smith; his filmography, his characters and his directing style , with changes to it through the years. We dissect some of our favourite films as well as look at how things have changed for him since his original film, Clerks, was released back in 1994. We all talk about his brilliant casting selections and his genius, and probably his most popular, creations, Jay & Silent Bob, and look at how he has progressed in his styles. We also throw in a few facts and trivia bits along with some amazing Kevin Smith themed music! Long live Kevin Smith!!
The Weird World This Week features firemen saving piglets, then eating them, a rapper staring at the eclipse, and one very lucky woman. MJ takes on traffic with her Phat Bitch, and we rank our Big 5 American rock bands. Nerd stuff features early #It reviews, the return of Jay & Silent Bob, and more head scratching movie moves by DC comics. Our thoughts are with the people of Houston as we play "Texas songs" with music by Garth Brooks, Reverend Horton Heat, and Tex Ritter.
A compilation episode of the various call-in's we've had including actors like Al Pacino, George Takei, Michael Caine, Richard Dreyfuss, along with global figures such as George Lucas, Barack Obama and Donald Trump, and characters such as Kermit the Frog, serial killer Jamie Gumm and Jay & Silent Bob.
Dan and Sammie talk about Kevin Smith's 1994 indie-cult classic "Clerks." A phone call from Jay & Silent Bob interrupts the conversation about Smith's cinematic universe and career.
We review "Jay & Silent Bob Get Old" from their tour here in STL. Then we talk about the upcoming Planet Comic Con with their CMO, Kirk Critten. In 1994, the indie film Clerks won Kevin Smith critical acclaim and the beginnings of a cult following, praised for it’s witty writing and authentic voice. Touchstone attempted to capitalise on the film’s success by snapping up the TV rights and producing a pilot. Trouble is, they wanted a family sitcom. So, uh, try to imagine Clerks without Jay & Silent Bob. Or swear words. Or sex talk. They also took all the charm out and made everyone a jerk. That didn’t seem totally necessary for a sitcom, I think that’s what they thought Clerks brought to the table? Either way, it’s shit.
