with Rev. LoraKim JoynerToday, we will briefly review the scientific and cultural aspects of how people relate and respond to nature, and specifically to birds. Being intentionally mindful of birds reaps benefits not just for humans but for the birds themselves. As people come to understand and connect to birds, they increase their resilience and health by being with birds and, in so doing, increase their capacity to care for themselves and others. The mindful practice of birds can take only minutes a day but conversely also involves a lifetime of commitment, exploration, and wonder. Rev. Joyner will share how her lifetime working with birds has changed her and others with whom she works. Support the Show.
Romans 10:9 'If you see something that doesn't look right'... That could be the harsh reality of the world we live in – so much of it doesn't look right! But the solution suggested by the British Transport Police is surprisingly similar to the meaning of Easter, 'See it, say it, sorted.'

In this week's episode of the Albany Update, we start with good news regarding the fight to protect pro-life people from government harassment. Pivoting to other pro-life work, we note that November is National Adoption Month. Then, we must address a troubling ruling regarding New York's involuntary quarantine rule. Next, on the heels of New York's effort to legalize recreational marijuana, some legislators are now hoping to decriminalize hard drugs. Perhaps they should heed the warning that Oregon's bad drug deal gives the nation. Finally, our state is considering new high school graduation requirements that would make standardized testing for students nearly obsolete. Can the Excelsior State's educational results fall much lower than they already are? Without testing, we may never know. Let's get started. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/albanyupdate/support

Welcome to season 2, episode 50 of the Today is the Day Changemakers Podcast. This week I welcome changemaker Gail Siggelakis: award-winning author, certified transformational life coach, and professional spreader of positive energy. After nearly 40 years spent as an educator, she has taken it upon herself to share her knowledge with a broader audience by writing an empowering, beautifully written book titled The Affirming Way of Life: See the Good, Speak the Good, Spread the Good. In the 21st century, especially in recent times following a widespread spike in mental health awareness, nearly everyone has heard about positive affirmations. However, less have put the practice to use in a meaningful way. Upon hearing the term, most picture the concept as merely saying nice things to yourself in the mirror, but Gail elevates this idea to another level. She encourages us to be mindful in our expressions to others and to recognize the effect we have with the words we choose and the energy we exude through our thoughts and actions. Gail cites hesitancy to practice positive affirmations on the guarded nature of each of us in society. People are sometimes reluctant to openly express positivity, for fear of appearing weak or being taken advantage of. Ironically, this fear is itself a weakness, and Gail promotes pushing through such fears with a brave and open heart. Inspired by a meaningful reoccurrence of the word “possibility” in her life, Gail has committed herself to embarking on the mission of helping others discover their talents and unleash all possibilities they may possess. She is also passionate about the importance of using words mindfully and explains the impact words can have on the world. Gail is a firm believer that positivity encourages use of talents and words of the positive nature will give you the power to create the life and relationships you want. Her intuitive mind and sunny disposition motivates others to be cognizant of the energy they are putting out into the universe. Gail also shares about why she decided to become a transformational life coach and what types of clients are drawn to working with her. Welcome to season 2, episode 49 of the Today is the Day Changemakers Podcast. This week I interview three incredible young entrepreneurs from New Jersey. All are doing something they love and are continuing to share their artistic talents with the world. My first guest is Jack Marra. Jack is 16 years old and an incredible artist. He creates fan art, has many requests for commissioned work from his close to 6,000 Instagram followers, and makes beautiful artistic keychains. Jack shares about how his confidence increased as others took notice of his artwork at a younger age. Sharing fan art from the show Stranger Things truly helped Jack see an increase in followers. From there more opportunities were created. Jack goes on to share the importance of creating characters and that people really enjoy following character stories even if they have never heard of them before. You can see some of Jack's work by following @inkycat186 or purchase artwork at his Etsy shop - @iinkycatz.My next guest is Sienna Grinwald-Alves. Sienna is a junior in college and is attaining her bachelor's degree in music education. She teaches vocal and beginner piano lessons and is also a budding opera singer. She was inspired by her grandfather who was an aspiring opera singer himself. When she was a junior in performing arts high school with a focus on vocal training, Sienna was asked to lead the Zzak G. Applaud Our Kids Foundation's AOK Performance Group. During that time parent's of AOK Performance Group students asked Sienna if she could provide individual vocal lessons. From there she started her performing arts studio called Operatunity Performing Arts Center. Sienna's students have ranged from ages 6 to 81 years old. You can find out more on Instagram @operatunity.pac.Lastly, I interview Hudson Galik. Hudson creates amazing woodworking pieces that he sells. He created an amazing shaker solid wood table for his home and from there realized how much he felt connected to this craft. He named his business Woodism, which is a combination of the word wood from woodworking and autism. Hudson is on the autism spectrum and sees this artistic outlet as a way to express himself and increase his confidence. You can follow him on Instagram @woodismusa or by going to his website - AboutWoodism.com.All my guests this week answer my last question which is, what advice would you give to someone who is young and has a talent that they want to share with the world? Take a listen to hear their important words of encouragement. It is so important to support small business when making purchases throughout the year. It takes great courage at a young age to put your work out in the public eye. Help support these young entrepreneur's businesses. Next week, I interview Gail Siggelakis. Gail is an award-winning author of the personal growth book, The Affirming Way of Life: See the Good, Speak the Good, Spread the Good. She is also a transformational life coach, and a former elementary school educator. EP: 015- At a young age, traveling for international soccer competitions stoked Matt Stone's appetite for experiencing the world and adventure. Soccer eventually faded but his inner athlete and desire to be invigorated by life only grew stronger. From living in various countries and following love, to finding himself through extreme challenges and receiving unconditional human kindness abroad, Matt experienced deeper meaning, growth and purpose that expanded beyond himself. What started as supplying climbing gear to serve travelers eventually became the genesis of Matt Stone's Stone Expeditions. Today Stone Expeditions creates international experiences and retreats that stretch beyond one's comfort zones to grow, gain perspective and inspire. “Change your life. See the world. Make a difference” is their mission. During this conversation Stefani and Matt pull back the curtain on the small moments and big decisions that Matt faced on his growth journey that inspired Stone Expeditions. We also cover:His entrepreneurial endeavors from a young ageSerendipitous moments with strangersThe power of living and serving in foreign countriesThe month he spent in an ashramExtreme thrill seeking and it's consequencesPresence and oneness with nature The spirituality that is cultivated through travel and experienceWhat is offered in Stone Expeditions retreat services Learn more about Stone Expeditions!Instagram: @stoneexpeditionsEmail info@stoneexpeditions.comhttps://stoneexpeditions.com/Join the Movement Soul Collective community @movementsoulcollectivepodConnect with Stefani @stefani_mccullahReceive A FREE 30 minute coaching call with Stefani when submitting a 5 star rating and written review through the rest of September through October 31st. Matt Stone is an avid climber, paraglider and diver that has spent the better half of the past ten years living all over the world. His passion for active adventure, cultural immersion and impactful change within communities, led him to start an expedition company that enables individuals from all walks of life to have transformational travel experiences. His mission statement is, "Change Your Life, See The World, Make A Difference."We had such a blast talking with Matt about the ebbs and flows of moving through the different dimensions of life via the flow state. Matt talks about how despite our in modern day advancements we are still primitive beings and respond best to the very primal state of flow that comes from being placed in survival-like situations we can return to a state of flow. As opposed to our daily lives which create false survival reactions within us that get trapped as added stresses, fears and depression. Matt reveals that he sees high adventure sports as a way for us to reconnect with our flow state. Matt shares many different stories about his travels or as he refers to them experiences, where he has immersed himself in cultures and adventure experiences around the world. He believes that service is so important because it brings happiness to others and ourselves. Mindfulness practices are another element of Matt's lifestyle. Being present with ourselves in the present moment is incredibly important for applying to our lives every day. Matt's courage story is a little ironic in that he doesn't really see all of his high adrenaline adventures as being courageous. Instead it is the everyday courage he applies to staying focused and committed to his work and see it through as being how he personally steps into courage. Matt also suggests trying to find your flow as early in the day as possible. For instance if walking your do puts you into a flow state then do that first thing so that you can get yourself aligned for being in flow the rest of the day. Brilliant suggestion!Seeing life through different languages. Motorcycling across South America, climbing in the andes, paragliding through the Himalayas, non profit work in the amazons - rural Quechua communities. Moving through life with a purpose and how when we are lost we can use it as a springboard effect to redefine a greater version of ourselves.Right now I have a free webinar and a free survival kit giveaway. Paul interviews David Gregory, New York Times #1 Best-selling author, playwright, and teacher whose life has come full circle. Despite a love for writing and liberal arts in high school and college, David opted for a “more practical” business degree that launched him into a successful ten-year career in compensation management with three consulting firms and Texas Instruments. After a decade of spreadsheets, however, he was ready to look for a career offering more personal meaning. David returned to graduate school, earning a master's degree from the University of North Texas with concentrations in communication and sociology. During that time, he began creative writing in the form of two short screenplays, one dramatic and one science fiction. He also started a periodic newsletter before joining a Christian ministry as staff writer and editor. While there, he coauthored two nonfiction books, The Marvelous Exchange and The Rest of the Gospel: When the Partial Gospel Has Worn You Out. While earning another master's degree from Dallas Theological Seminary, David entertained a new craft: writing fiction. He decided that in a culture dominated by sound bites, reality TV, and the Internet, communicating through story could reach otherwise untapped audience. Taking some material on worldviews that he had planned to put into nonfiction form, he began writing Dinner with a Perfect Stranger. David's current study focuses on the postmodern worldview and how it intersects with the Christian conception of God, meaning in life, and the process of knowing (epistemology). He is currently writing his second novel. David lives in Texas with his wife and two children, where he works for a nonprofit organization. Your absolute best life? If not, you're in the wrong place. But, if you want to explore what you can do to make the most of where you're at right now and begin to guide yourself to take your life in the direction you want, then this episode and this series ‘How to choose your best life' is just for you. Welcome my friend! We are in a series on ‘How to choose your best life' and I am thrilled you're here and joining in. Say, make sure you subscribe so you don't miss any episodes in this series. You don't want to miss any in this series, but I also have a few more series coming out where I'm going to hit some major topics to help you Enjoy Life & Create The Future You Want. Have you ever got a new car or truck? Maybe one that was just new to you? Did you see it all over the place after you got it? Over my years, I've had a few different vehicles. Some were more popular and weren't. But, the same funny thing happened with each one. As soon as I started driving it, I saw that same car or truck all over the place. Now, did everyone else go out and get that same used vehicle I got the same day I got mine? Of course, not. I saw more of them because my attention was on the vehicle I was driving. I looked for them and I saw more of them. What you look for can determine what you see. See Success Past Right, wrong or whatever. See the benefit. Be kind to yourself Give yourself a little grace You're human If you don't see the success in your past, it will be more difficult to build on it. Future Believe in your future Believe that you can achieve. Maybe with some help, guidance, or even mentoring. If you don't see success in your future, it will be more difficult to pursue it. Possibilities Life is full of possibilities. It is far more risky to never take a risk. Be optimistic If you don't see possibilities, it will be more difficult to take advantage of them. Challenges Today's struggles will give you the strength you'll need tomorrow. If you don't see success in the challenges you face, then it will be more difficult for you to overcome them. Big Hope in the big things that are important to you Keeping the big things you want in mind can help you keep going in the right direction If you don't see success in the big important things, it will be more difficult for you to achieve them. Small Value in taking the small steps Focusing on the small steps you need to take can help you continue to make progress If you don't see success in the small steps, then it will be more difficult for you to stay persistent in doing the work to achieve goals and create the future you want. What can you do? Start where you're at. Of the areas I just mentioned, which ones are you already seeing the successes? The Past, The Future, The Possibilities, The Challenges, The Big, The Small. What areas is it easier for you to look for and see the positives? Which areas is it more of a challenge for you to see the positives? Or, your successes? If you want to add the value of seeing the good things in any of these areas, the best way to do that is to write out. They can be small things. Maybe it's tough to list many positives in a certain area. That's okay. Start where you're at. The more you can begin to see the successes in each area the more you'll be able to build on those successes, move forward, and make progress to even better. If you focus on the negative, then that's what you'll get more of in your life. If you can see the successes (even in the challenging things), then that's what you'll get more of because you'll be able to capitalize on them. Choose where you focus. Choose what you focus on. Choose what you see. The choice is yours. Use your choices to help you live the life you want. What's one thing that you're going to look for more of in your life?
OK, so the Supreme Court may be ready to send the control over the abortion industry to the elected representatives of the citizens, and THEY are the one's the most stunningly upset about it. This is one of those quotes that the ‘state farm insurance' commercials that “stop you from becoming your parents” that hangs on a wall in your house and has no need to be there. I saw this in TJ Maxx years ago (maybe college), and it has hung on a canvas print with me everywhere I go. Now it's hanging in my office. It falls nicely in line with the quote from Dr. Bonner I gave you yesterday. If you find joy and happiness, success will follow. As I interpret it, the journey should make you enjoy yourself, not the destination. If the destination truly were the reward (let's say it's winning a game, for example), then if the other team forfeits, or calls you and says, “you know what coach, we don't even have to play, you win”, there's something lost there. Focus on your journey. Enjoy the daily interactions, the challenges and the rewards. John Wooden said, “each day of the journey is precious, we must strive to make it our masterpiece”
Happiness is not a destination, it is a way of life.

How are you going to thrive and live in possibility during this unprecedented time? It's a question I've been asking myself since last week and it's left me hopeful, proactive and purposeful.I am currently at home in self-isolation for the next 14 days, and as of midnight March 25 New Zealand is now in lockdown for 30 days to contain this virus. This global pandemic is emotionally challenging, that's for sure. Each day brings you new feelings and thoughts, concerns and fears, mixed in with hope, solutions, positivity and opportunity.I've been speaking to my clients and students and the range of feelings is so beautifully human. Yet each of them is doing what they can, with what they have, to get through this and even thrive. One thing that none of us can deny now is this is REAL. And this is our new norm for the foreseeable future. So in today's podcast I wanted to share the ways you can cope with self-isolation as well as the ways to thrive by looking at all the available opportunities. In times like this, the best thing to do is make the most out of it. How you behave, respond and act right now will set you up for how you will lead others in the future. It's in these most trying times that you can step up and be your best possible self, not only for you but for your loved ones, peers and strangers who need your gifts. In this episode, I share what is happening out there in terms of potential opportunities for you and your business, what areas are thriving, and where to help people right now.In this Episode You’ll Learn:5 thriving areas with the most potential and opportunities for you to capitalise onThe two key questions to ask yourself to make the most out of this situationThe importance of a daily ritual and routine to feel grounded and more certainGuest appearance from Azul Terronez on the power of creating conversationsBeautiful tips and analogies from Azul on why writing a book right now is neededPodcast ResourcesListen in or read my most popular post: 12 Ways To Get Paid To Be You – Even During A Crisis or RecessionJoin me to Write the Damn Book - starting April 3, 2020.TED Talk: What Makes a Good Teacher Great? by Azul TerronezHow to Kick Off Your Day To Win at Life See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Many of us believe that there is no success without sacrifice. But is that true?As a self-proclaimed Freedomist, and author of a book about having your own Freedom Plan I happen to know that you can have a thriving business and a lifestyle you love at the same time. But it takes vision and then planning, discipline and systems to make sure you stay true to that vision.I’m always keen to learn from others as I love to layer on top of what I’ve already done and figured out, with more wisdom and strategies that work.So when David Finkel got in touch to talk about his Freedom Formula I was all ears.David is the CEO of Maui Mastermind, one of the world’s premier business coaching companies, which has worked with over 100,000 business leaders, helping them grow their companies and get their lives back.David’s clients enjoy an average annual growth rate five times higher than the average privately held company in the United States, and at the same time, these business leaders have dramatically decreased their working hours.Over the past 20 years, David and the other Maui coaches and advisors have personally started and scaled companies with an aggregate value of $63 billion.David eats his own cooking which has allowed him the time to start, scale, and sell multiple successful ventures, be on the boards of several other companies, all while holding his working hours to under 40 hours per week and taking 10 weeks of vacation each year. The Wall Street Journal bestselling author of eleven books, David’s syndicated business articles on Inc.com, Fastcompany.com, and Forbes.com have garnered millions of readers. His work has been featured in such prestigious media outlets as the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg Businessweek, Fox Business, MSNBC, and Inc. Magazine.Impressed yet? You should be as David really does walk his talk.In this episode, David reveals:Why working longer and harder doesn’t pay off (and what actually does)Why the 80-20 principle doesn’t go far enough (and how to take it to its most productive extreme)How to operationalize the work/life balanceHow to escape the “time and effort” economyHow to structure the day and week to reclaim five or more hours each week in usable blocksWhat strategies to utilize to recover time and attention from distractionsPodcast ResourcesYou can learn more about David Finkel on MauiMastermind.comHow to Scale and Grow Your Business with David FinkelThe Freedom Formula: How to Succeed in Business Without Sacrificing Your Family, Health, or Life See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Series: 1 John -- Sunday, October 7, 2018 -- Sermon Questions “WHERE DO YOU GET LIFE" Where do you try to get life, really? What is the difference between real life and pseudo life? (See Hebrews 11:24-25; John 4:4-18; Jeremiah 2:13-14.) Read 1 John 1:1-4. Where does John say real life is found? What does John mean when he says Jesus is “The Word of Life”? (See 1 John 1:1.) What does John mean when he says Jesus is “Eternal Life”? (See John 1:2; John 6:32-38.) Have you really “tasted” the true Jesus who gives life? Read 1 John 1:3-4. What does fellowship mean? What is John asking you and I as believers to do? What brings the believer real joy?
Psalm 63 (NIV) Psalm 63[a] A psalm of David. When he was in the Desert of Judah. 1 You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. 2 I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. 3 Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. 4 I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. 5 I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you. 6 On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night. 7 Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. 8 I cling to you; your right hand upholds me. 9 Those who want to kill me will be destroyed; they will go down to the depths of the earth. 10 They will be given over to the sword and become food for jackals. 11 But the king will rejoice in God; all who swear by God will glory in him, while the mouths of liars will be silenced. Footnotes: [a] Psalm 63:1 In Hebrew texts 63:1-11 is numbered 63:2-12. Seek God early, Prioritise Jesus first - v1 Gods love is better than life v2-5 find true rest in God even during the night v6-8 God is in control, He will bring justice in the end v9-11
