Why would a person working under the rules and purpose of statistics for 30 years want something more than what she has been an expert with for many years? Do you want something more out of your statistician background? What could statisticians offer outside of the field of statistics in healthcare? How does leadership in statistics bring you to embrace more exciting journey outside of statistics? What does passion have to do with making statistics work for statisticians trying out new avenues of opportunities? No matter how boring it may seem to others, statistics is certainly an exciting field for those who enjoy numbers and the analysis of the data collected from samples that are worked on. From the point of collecting data to studying what they mean, statisticians are certainly considered leaders who are able to utilize data to drive change for the benefit of the patients and the general public. But there is more to statistics than simply dealing with the numbers. It gives statisticians a direct connection with the issues giving them a chance to see things more clearly. In this podcast episode on steeping outside of statistics, Alex sits down to connect with Liz Thompson who has a strong 30-year background in statistics to understand why statisticians embrace the option of stepping outside of their expertise in the hope of bringing more value to what they do. In this discussion, Liz presents some of the most distinct reasons as to why a statistician may want to embrace other options of growth in the healthcare industry as an advocate for distinct purposes. To all those who have served our country, Happy Veterans Day. On Episode 78 of No Rain Date--in our interview with Hellertown resident, Marine Corps veteran and yoga instructor Liz Thompson--our focus is on veterans and their health. After serving a tour of duty during the Iraq War in 2004-2005, Liz returned to the U.S. and civilian life, only to gradually discover that she hadn't left the horrors of war behind. Despite some initial reluctance, she decided to try yoga as a means of reasserting control over her life. The rhythmic breathing and thoughtfulness of this ancient form of physical fitness helped her focus on her mental health and healing. Eventually she became a certified yoga instructor so she could help other veterans experience the same benefits from it. Today, she gives back to members of the local military community by leading a free yoga class for fellow veterans at the Hellertown American Legion, and through the nonprofit she founded, Balanced Warriors. At Bass Coast, a beautiful boutique festival in the forests of British Columbia, everyone is a babe. What is a babe? A Bass Coast babe is a person of any gender who’s really feeling themselves. This party is so full of embodied bodies that it’s often affectionately referred to as “Babe Coast.” The festival is also famously run by women, Liz Thompson and today’s guest on the show, the beloved Andrea Graham, aka The Librarian. On the podcast, Andrea and I chat about the unique alchemy of safe, sexy, and silly that creates a liberated vibe.   Ever thought about writing a book? Never thought about writing a book? Today's guest Liz Thompson from House Style Editing is introducing us to the world of writing a book; she shares reasons why you might want to write your very own book. She takes us through the complete writing process and shares her secrets all around finding the right editor for your first book.   Takeaways from today's show: Writing a book is a project with multiple phases, you can't skip or blend the different periods without messing up the result. Finding the right editor for your book is essential. Talk to as many editors as you need to talk to, to find one that speaks your language, has experience in your genre and just feels like the right fit. During the writing process, it makes sense to let members of your audience proofread your book. Make sure you give the book to people that aren't loved once that would prase your work even if it was awful. To make the proofreading process easier give them specific questions they can answer about every chapter of the book. So you can find out where exactly you need to go in and improve your work.   Mentioned in the Show: House Style Editing: http://www.housestyleediting.com/ Grammarly https://app.grammarly.com The Sparkling Creative Community: https://www.facebook.com/groups/243968072673994/ The Mini Sessions: https://app.acuityscheduling.com/schedule.php?owner=12775174&appointmentType=1895716 I've been working with so many creatives that thought the next grand business strategy or a new creative product they're going to offer would bring them more of what they wanted.  More money!  More fulfillment!  More time!  More happiness! My 4 guests on this episode are people I dearly love and care about - My two children, Kira and Kyler, and Rick and Liz Thompson, co-founders of Done For You Solutions and Next Best Sellers. That may sound like an unusual combination of people to have on one show, but if you take the time to listen it will make perfect sense to you because this edition of Growth to Freedom is not only about getting a bestselling Amazon book published, it’s also about balancing your business and entrepreneurial drive with the need for your family to be healthy and strong. Ric and Liz are experienced entrepreneurs and run a company that enables people just like you to get their story into book form and onto the Amazon bestseller charts. They’ve done it with over 100 books so far, and can do it with yours. Ric and Liz are also dedicated to their family and are very skilled at living out the entrepreneurial life and lifestyle with their family in tow. They are the first to admit that there are struggles and challenges when it comes to mixing entrepreneurism and family life, but they’ve been able to do it so far with great success and are eager to share that not only should that be the case for every entrepreneur, but that it CAN happen as well. In this conversation I chat with my kids about what it’s like to live in my home, which as you can imagine, is very much impacted by the world of business and entrepreneurism, and I ask Ric and Liz to pipe in with their insights regarding the struggles involved in doing both business and family as well. My kids are able to share their dreams for the future and Liz and Ric are able to share their great advice about communication, understanding, patience, and hard work that go into making the home/business balance a reality that actually works. And mixed in with all of that is Ric and Liz’ advice about how you can get the ideas and experience that is inside of you, out, and onto the pages of a book, and get it to the top of the Amazon bestseller list. That may sound like a pipe dream, or like something you’re not skilled enough to do, but I think by the end of this conversation, you’ll be a believer in what Ric and Liz can do for you, just like I am.   Here’s a glimpse of what you’ll learn in this show: [0:33] Dan’s introduction to today’s show and guests: Kyler and Kira, his children - AND Ric and Liz Thompson, founders of Done For You Solutions!
