In this episode of Crossing Faiths, John Pinna speaks with Michael Kinnamon, a novelist, professor of theology, and expert in interfaith relations, about his novel "A Rooftop in Jerusalem" and the broader themes of his life's work. Kinnamon discusses his three careers—as a professor, an ecumenical leader with the National Council of Churches, and now a novelist—and how they are all connected by the goal of fostering empathy and cross-cultural understanding. The conversation delves into the power of fiction to humanize complex political and religious conflicts by putting a face on headlines and allowing readers to inhabit different perspectives. They explore the central plot of Kinnamon's novel, a 40-year love story between an American Christian and an Israeli Jewish woman, which serves as a lens to examine the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the tension between unity and justice, and the role of hospitality in bridging divides. Throughout the discussion, Kinnamon emphasizes how personal relationships and shared experiences, often over meals, can break down stereotypes and create meaningful dialogue in a world defined by walls and conflict. Michael Kinnamon (https://michaelkinnamon.com/) is the author of two previously published novels: Summer of Love and Evil (2021) and The Nominee (2024). Prior to his career as a novelist, he was a widely respected professor of theology, author of numerous books on ecumenical and interfaith relations, and general secretary of the National Council of Churches in the US. [A Rooftop in Jerusalem](https://www.amazon.com/Rooftop-Jerusalem-Michael-Kinnamon/dp/B0DZQDMQ15/) draws on his extensive experience in the Middle East. Dr. Kinnamon and his wife, Mardine Davis, an art consultant, live in San Diego.

Quran Garden - The Holy Quran Explained in Clear English (English Tafsir)
In Islam, some sins are so severe that they endanger your salvation and can lead to hellfire. The Quran mentions 16 major sins, and in our last session, we discussed the first four. Today, we're diving into three more. Understanding these major sins is essential for living a life of faith and righteousness. This knowledge may save you and your family.
Joe breaks down the “Islamic Dilemma,” a catch 22 where the Quran says to obey the Gospel and the Torah, but also contradicts both of these books on several major theological and historical points. Transcript: Joe: Welcome back to Shameless Popery. I’m Joe Heschmeyer, and as you probably know, Muslims believe the Quran is divinely revealed scripture and non-Muslims don’t believe this. So how can we know and show which side is right? Well, there’s a simple argument called the Islamic dilemma that seems to settle the question once and for all. It doesn’t prove...
You're crushing it at work or uni, but can't stop looking at what you shouldn't when you're alone. You give charity publicly but backbite privately. You know the names of all the Premier League players, but "not much" about the scholars of Ahlus Sunnah. Your parents think you're the perfect Muslim child while you're drowning in guilt cycles you can't break. Religious enough to feel shame, worldly enough to keep sinning. Don't you think it's time to change? Watch Ustadh Abdulrahman Hassan break down this forgotten treatise by Ibn Taymiyyah's student Ibn al-Habbal - battle-tested advice from someone who survived real consequences. He explains how to protect your heart and your time, the only two things that actually matter. How to stop trying to please everyone and focus on pleasing Allah alone. The brutal reminder: You're ageing but your sins aren't decreasing. Every breath is documented. You'll answer for every moment you had health, free time, and youth. What's your response going to be? Learn what's destroying Muslims today that's worse than private sins - the same extremism that ruined past nations. Going overboard with righteous people, and drifting towards shirk by asking dead saints for help instead of making dua directly to Allah. We spend years working on our careers, chasing promotions, saving for homes, building comfort for our families. From the outside, it looks like growth. But in the sight of Allah, what's our real balance sheet? At every Janazah, we feel it for a moment: watching someone lowered into the grave and thinking, “One day that'll be me.” Yet within hours, we're back to the grind. Back to chasing the same wealth and routines that won't follow us past the soil. The Prophet ﷺ told us that three things accompany every person to the grave: family, wealth, and deeds. But only one remains. The other two - the very things we obsess over - abandon us the moment we need them most. So what are you really investing in? Your children and wealth, which stay behind? Or your deeds, which remain with you forever? In this reminder, Ustadh Abdulrahman Hassan unpacks the Akhirah investment strategy every believer needs to hear: - Why Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه became the greatest in just 30 years - not through more worship, but through the state of his heart. - Why Hassan al-Basri warned that time with family and wealth is devastatingly short. - What it means to own two houses - the one you obsess over now, and the one you'll live in forever. - And what really decides whether your grave becomes a garden of Jannah or a pit of Fire. This isn't about Dunya's net worth. It's about the only net worth that matters. The one revealed when you're lowered into the ground. What are you leaving behind? In this episode of Crossing Faiths, John Pinna speaks with Joseph Dumond, an author and subject matter expert on biblical prophecy and the Jubilee calendar. Dumond explains his decades-long research into establishing a precise timeline for the end of days based on 120 Jubilee cycles of 49 years each. Using historical and archaeological evidence like the Assyrian siege of Jerusalem in 701 BC and ancient tombstones, he outlines a prophetic calendar that he believes pinpoints key events. He discusses how the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 marked a significant midpoint and interprets the October 7th attack on Israel as the "abomination" prophesied in Daniel. Dumond offers specific future dates for major prophetic fulfillments, including a significant event in July 2026, the start of the great tribulation in 2030, and the beginning of the Messianic age in 2045, arguing that these events align with biblical holy days and that the time for these prophecies is imminent. Hud is the 11th chapter of the Quran and has 123 verses. It relates in part to the prophet Hud. Regarding the timing and contextual background of the revelation, it is an earlier "Meccan surah", which means it is believed to have been revealed in Mecca, instead of later in Medina.

In the previous session, Imam Jafar Al-Sadeq gave us a comprehensive list of the 16 major sins in Islam, each supported by evidence from the Quran. This list is critical for you, me, and every Muslim to study and understand because these sins may lead you straight to Hellfire, while avoiding them guarantees your success. Today, we take a deep dive into the first three items on the list.
Seerah First, Then Quran — Sahil Adeem at GIKISahil Adeem and GIKI students explore how scientific lenses like psychology and sociology can unlock deeper lessons from the Seerah — and why it must come before understanding the Quran. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The expeditions had begun. Quraysh's caravans - loaded with the wealth stripped from the Muslims in Makkah - became the new target. The first expeditions passed without major confrontation, but each one edged closer to the inevitable clash. Then came Nakhlah. A sealed letter. A mission meant only to observe. Twelve men who suddenly found themselves standing at a crossroads: strike the caravan now and risk spilling blood in the sacred month, or let it pass and lose the chance forever. One arrow was loosed. A man fell. Captives were taken. The first spoils of war were in Muslim hands. What followed shook everything. Accusations, anger, and uncertainty filled Madinah. Even the Muslims themselves were unsure of what had just happened - until revelation from Allah ﷻ descended, clarifying the truth and turning the tide. In this episode, Ustadh Abdulrahman Hassan explores: - The Prophet's ﷺ earliest expeditions and why only the Muhajirun participated in them. - The Nakhlah raid and its far-reaching consequences. - A tender moment that gave ‘Ali رضي الله عنه the name Abu Turab, and a chilling prophecy about his fate. - Lessons from deviation, and why the chains of scholarship protect the Ummah. A single decision at Nakhlah pushed the Muslims closer to what Quraysh had long feared: open battle. We wake up running after deadlines, studies, careers, and distractions that never end. We scroll for hours, but never feel fulfilled. We complain about the weakness of our Ummah, yet struggle to see where strength begins. And at the back of our minds sits a question we try to ignore: what if death comes before we figure it out? This khutbah cuts to the heart of that struggle. It's about the gap between what we live for and what we were actually created for - and why that gap decides everything. And when the answer finally comes, it circles back to the very first command in the Qur'an, and the last words every believer longs to say: La ilaha illallah, the shahada. This dunya deceives you while death calls your name. In this deep-rooted journey of tazkiyah, Ustadh Muhammad Tim Humble resumes his series on purifying the soul from the piercing poetry of Abu Ishaq Al-Ilbiri (459 AH), rediscovering how this Andalusian poet's verses expose the dunya's deception - all of which will be taught in detail in the Student of Knowledge program at AMAU Academy. Learn why we still mention Imam Bukhari's name 1200 years after his death, yet forget the wealthy from last week. You'll understand why your Iman feels weak and how to renew it, discover how knowledge becomes your guardian while wealth requires guarding, and see why even righteous people fall into Shaytan's traps without proper Islamic knowledge. So the question comes to be: A thousand years from now, will anyone remember your name? The scholars live on through their knowledge while the wealthy are forgotten. Choose your legacy before your choice is taken away. You can probably say “La ilaha illallah” in less than a second. We all can. It's on our tongues every day. But if someone stopped you and said, “Explain it to me”, how long would you hesitate before answering? The Shahadah isn't just a sentence we inherit. It's the foundation of Islam, the key to Jannah, and the very thing that makes our salah, fasting, and worship even count. Yet many of us have never actually studied what it means or the conditions that come with it. In this lecture, Ustadh Sadiq A. Yasin explains Miftah Dar al-Salam by al-Hafidh al-Hakami - a short but powerful book that lays out the true meaning of the Shahadah and the seven conditions every Muslim needs to know. This isn't abstract theory. It's about living La ilaha illallah, so it shapes your actions today, and so it can be the last thing you say before you meet Allah. In this episode of Crossing Faiths, John Pinna speaks with Eric Roux from the United Religions Initiative (URI) about his personal and professional journey in interfaith collaboration and religious freedom advocacy. Roux recounts how his work began by defending his own faith, Scientology, against discrimination in France, but evolved as he recognized the greater power and necessity of working alongside other religious communities to support each other. They discuss the complex landscape of religious freedom in Europe and explore the unique, grassroots structure of URI, which fosters "Cooperation Circles" worldwide to build relationships and tackle local issues—from environmentalism to violence prevention—through collaborative action. Key themes include the effectiveness of diverse communities defending one another, the importance of moving beyond dialogue to tangible cooperation, and the belief that building genuine relationships is the most effective way to create a more peaceful world focused on shared goals and human dignity. Eric Roux has devoted himself to the service of his faith and to the universal cause of freedom of religion for more than three decades. He became a member of the clergy of the Church of Scientology in 1993 and was ordained as a minister of religion shortly thereafter. From the earliest days of his ministry, he demonstrated a strong commitment to both spiritual outreach and humanitarian initiatives. Recognizing that meaningful progress requires cooperation across faith traditions, Eric Roux co-founded the FoRB Roundtable Brussels EU. This innovative platform regularly brings together over one hundred governmental and non-governmental organizations to exchange insights, forge alliances, and develop joint strategies for the protection and promotion of religious rights. Through regular meetings, the Roundtable has become a crucible for collaborative policymaking, leading to tangible improvements in legal safeguards for persecuted minorities. His work has earned him international acclaim as a champion of freedom of religion and belief. In recognition of his skills in consensus-building and his unwavering dedication to human dignity, Eric Roux was recently elected Chair of the Global Council of the United Religions Initiative (URI), the world's largest grassroots network dedicated to interreligious cooperation. As Chair, he now guides URI's strategic vision, supporting a myriad of local multifaith groups and grassroots projects.

In this episode, I talk about the prohphethood and life of Prophet Harun (as) according to the Quran and Hadiths.
In today's Atheist Experience, Justin and Jim Barrows dissect the flimsy foundations of faith, critique the peculiar "design" of the human body, and explore the logical leaps required to uphold belief in the face of scientific understanding. They challenge callers on everything from deconstruction guilt and family relationships to questionable links between Kabbalah and quantum physics.Mary Cate in NC is working through deconstruction and feels guilty, missing her religious community. The hosts suggest building new secular communities and emphasize that maintaining family relationships without endorsing beliefs is not dishonest. What steps can one take to navigate these complex social dynamics?Ben in KS, an agnostic, questions if science's inability to explain "spirituality" or deeper layers of existence leaves room for God, citing particle-wave duality. Hosts challenge him to define which God and argue that naturalistic explanations, supported by Occam's Razor, remain the most coherent approach. If a God is added, how does one explain that God's grounding?Daisy in WA asks if dogmatic religions can be disproven, unlike deism. Justin and Jim provide numerous examples of internal contradictions within the Bible and the Quran, highlighting scientific errors and failed prophecies. How do these internal inconsistencies challenge the claims of divine inspiration?Hannah claims that modern physics, specifically the concept of ten dimensions and the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, provides evidence for Kabbalah and an unknowable Godhead. The hosts dismiss these as coincidental numerical matches and misrepresentations of scientific principles without testable evidence. Why do such parallels, without supporting evidence, often amount to pareidolia?Benji, a theist, discusses the point of converting atheists if worship is subjective and brings up the "terra fallacy" regarding insufficient evidence. The hosts clarify the distinction between belief and worship, stating that objective evidence of God's existence would be compelling, unlike failed prophecies. What kind of evidence would be universally convincing for existence, but not necessarily for worship?Jim in MO asks if free will truly exists with an omniscient, omnipotent God. Justin and Jim explain that while omniscience alone doesn't negate free will, combining it with omnipotence creates a problem of predetermination and the problem of evil. Does God's ultimate power mean our choices are merely part of a divine plan?Thank you for joining us this week!
