Jentic, an artificial intelligence startup building the integration layer for AI, has announced it has raised €4 million in pre-seed funding. The round was led by Elkstone with additional participation from Sure Valley Ventures, TechOperators, and Shuttle. Many notable technology founders and leaders also joined the round as angel investors. The funding will be used to expand the team, accelerate product development, and bring an integration layer for AI to market. Founded in late 2024, Jentic is a communication middleware layer for AI agents, which enables developers and organisations to easily hook their AI agents up to other systems, and manage and control their communication. It aims to be the platform that unites the expanding ecosystem of AI agents, from those offered by tech giants to bespoke agents created by in-house teams. Over the past few years, the AI sector has experienced unprecedented growth, driven by rapid innovation and a surge in investment. An AI agent is a software program that uses AI to plan how to accomplish goals and tasks, and performs the steps in that plan by connecting to other software systems. An agent is like a "self-driving" computer program, which has its goal set by a human user, but performs all the necessary actions itself. Jentic is focusing on the connection layer between agents and all other software, increasing agent capability, maximising reliability and helping organisations monitor and manage large-scale AI deployments. Jentic is founded by an experienced team of tech entrepreneurs, including CEO Sean Blanchfield, former co-founder of PageFair (acquired by Blockthrough) and DemonWare (acquired by Activision Blizzard), COO Dorothy Creaven, former Managing Director at Rent The Runway and co-founder of Element Wave, Michael Cordner, co-founder of Mindconnex, and Dr. Tilman Schaefer, a founding team member at DemonWare. "We're building critical infrastructure to enable developers to easily and securely hook their AI systems up to the world's APIs,"said Sean Blanchfield, co-founder and CEO of Jentic. "This is the future of automation, and it needs a new kind of integration layer to manage the unique complexity, reliability and security issues that arise when AI becomes highly connected. We have a strong history of building category-leading middleware, and this funding will allow us to quickly expand our world-class team, match the tremendous pace of AI development, and deliver a platform that empowers developers and organisations to deploy sophisticated AI with confidence." For developers, Jentic streamlines API integration for AI agents, automatically matching them with optimal tools as they execute tasks. For executives, it provides centralised oversight of agent operations across the organisation, enabling monitoring, security management, and access control. "At Elkstone, we are committed to backing ground-breaking startups capable of transforming industries," said Niall McEvoy, Head of Venture at Elkstone. "Jentic's clear vision to establish a universal AI integration layer aligns perfectly with our mission to drive technological innovation. Backing experienced serial founders with a clear global market opportunity underpins why Elkstone is leading this funding round, and we are enthusiastic to support Jentic's growth." Several experienced tech leaders sit on Jentic's board of advisors including Steven Collins (CTO of Unity, former CTO of King, co-founder of Havok and Swrve), Patricia Scanlon (Ireland's AI Ambassador and founder/former CEO of Soapbox Labs, acquired in 2023 by Curriculum Associates), Colm Long (former VP of Global Operations at Facebook and Director of Operations at Google, previously COO at Tines), Fergal Reid (VP of AI at Intercom) and Mark Cummins (former founder/CEO of Pointy and Plink, which were respectively acquired in 2010 and 2020 by Google). In episode 215, Prep Dish founder Allison Schaaf talks about how she manages closet clutter and shares her Rent the Runway review after trying the service for a year. While renovating their home, part of the plan was to include Allison's master bedroom closet. Allison discovered that the Rent the Runway service wasn't just relegated to fancy dresses for black-tie events, but that the service also offers clothing rentals for everyday outfits and she decided to give RTR a try. She streamlined her closet and made a commitment to minimize additional clothing purchases while using this clothing rental service. Allison found several uses for the RTR service, including having a wardrobe ready for events (gatherings with friends, work events, date nights), a travel wardrobe, for filming video footage for work, as well as going out for dressier events like weddings and other celebrations. Perks Allison found with RTR include fewer decisions about what to wear, sticking to her commitment of minimizing additional clothing purchases, having a much smaller wardrobe in her closet, and confidence in the up-to-date clothing fashions she's wearing. Allison recommends the RTR or similar services for those who aren't as much into fashion and the process of clothes shopping and putting together outfits. She also learned to always read the reviews, especially with sizing notes for your own reference. Rent the Runway has taken home the Best Application of Artificial Intelligence in a Company Award at the prestigious ITAG (Innovation Technology AtlanTec Gateway) Excellence Awards held recently in The Hardiman in Galway. Rent the Runway's European software and technology hub employs around 70 people at its base in the Piscatorial School in the Claddagh area in the heart of Galway. At the awards, Rent the Runway was shortlisted three times across three separate categories. The Best Application of AI award was given to Rent the Runway for their creation and deployment of a new proprietary machine learning algorithm that has improved the company's text search function with significant, measurable results. The AI search now allows users to explore the Rent the Runway site with outfit descriptions, such as "pink sparkly Barbie dress", or to search for outfits suitable for specific occasions like "Weekend Brunch" or "Holidays to Greece." Rent the Runway's fashion buyers are also benefiting from the new machine learning-powered search service and use it for language-driven searches of historical inventory to inform their purchasing decisions for upcoming seasons. "The need for the AI-driven solution arose from the increasing challenge of helping users find relevant styles beyond simple keyword matches", said Dorothy Creaven, Vice President, Managing Director and site lead at Rent the Runway in Galway. "Traditional search methods had become unscalable due to the diversity of search queries, and we are delighted to see the team's innovations and efforts recognised and rewarded by the wider tech community." Rent the Runway established its European technology hub in Galway in April 2019 and is Rent the Runway's first international office outside the US. The award-winning team in Galway tackles core technology challenges and influences the next generation of services critical to Rent The Runway's success and continued growth. Founded in 2000, ITAG's mission as a non-profit tech association is to develop technology innovation along the AtlanTec Gateway. The itag awards annually showcase the top talent in technology in the West of Ireland. See more stories here.

Today I thought it would be fun to have a quick chat about my personal style and clothing rentals. I was looking through past episodes to see what people listened to the most out of curiosity and almost all of the top episodes were fashion-related, and it's one of my favorite topics too! We've chatted a lot already about how to find your own personal style on previous episodes so I'll link some of the relevant ones below in case you missed any of them, but for today I thought I could just give an overview about me specifically and what I think my own style is because I'm sure it could change in the future but over the past year I've felt a lot more settled into a groove with this, and maybe it will give you some inspo or just be a nice little fun escape for your morning! I also will touch on my experiences with renting clothing because whenever I mention that I do that every month it's usually a little conversation starter and people have questions about it, so I'll just share a few things about that too and why I've been liking it! Here's what Alex got into today:Stocks are mixed around the world this morning while crypto stays pretty flat. Earnings this week that we're excited about include Gitlab, Couchbase, Yext, Smartsheet, and Hashicorp. (We're also keeping an eye on the Atomic Wallet hack.)Reddit's proposed API changes (charges, more like) are having a pretty big impact on the service's userbase; there are calls for a blackout of certain forums in response to the proposed updates. Reddit, on the other hand, is a business and needs to make money.Sticking to social media, news broke this morning that Twitter's revenues are down sharply compared to year-ago totals, at least when we consider its American advertising incomes. Twitter does more than just ads in North America, but given that it's likely a pretty big chunk of its total top line, it's not good news.Canva's valuation was slashed by a mutual fund (something that we have seen a lot lately), the latest in a string of similar headlines for other unicorns.Closing, WWDC is today. Championing Women In Real Estate Leadership with Delara Aubon! I'm so thrilled to be joined by my good friend Delara Aubon, a powerhouse leader who champions the cause of women's leadership and progress in the Real Estate industry. In this episode: We discuss the many discrepancies and gender gap that exists in real estate investment, with men far more likely to participate in the market. The reasons for this disparity and how it is rooted in historical discrimination and unreasonable societal expectations. Why women are often disregarded when pursuing wealth-building investments, and often face more significant challenges when it comes to managing finances and real estate investments due to traditional gender roles and expectations. Delara shares her experiences and observations with me in this amazing chat. We note how important it is for us to address such inequalities and empower women to take control of their money and opportunities. "Now also in that meeting, I asked her, 'Could you introduce me to a few of your friends? I'd love to meet with them and talk about this idea.' Because every meeting has to get you to three other meetings. Never leave a meeting with someone without asking them for that introduction." In this View From The Top interview, Rent the Runway founder and CEO Jennifer Hyman shares stories from her first meeting with fashion-giant Diane Von Furstenberg and how she's worked to foster and maintain relationships with more than 1,000 retail brands. "If you're an entrepreneur, effectively you are a salesperson. That's your number one skill that you need to have," Hyman says. Interviewed by Cyerra Holmes, MBA '23, Hyman talked about how growing up with a sibling with a disability helped her become relentlessly optimistic in the face of insurmountable odds. And, just twelve years after business school and those first meetings with fashion designers, Hyman took Rent The Runway public, becoming the 30th woman to complete an IPO in the history of U.S. markets.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Can Couples be Equally Competitive? In the world of business and entrepreneurship, having a competitive nature can prove to be a valuable asset. Being competitive means striving to be the best in your chosen field or endeavor, constantly pushing yourself to improve and overcome any obstacles that may arise. This mindset can help propel individuals to success even in the face of adversity. In the realm of personal growth, engaging in healthy competition with others can push one to reach new heights and become more proficient in their craft. For us, our competitive nature has manifested in our approach to various aspects of their lives, such as real estate investing and their shared love for wine. Throughout this Vibes by Alicia episode, we start our conversation by talking about our recent trip to St. Croix to visit one of our investment properties, we also openly discuss our competitiveness, and how we share the same level of drive to excel in whatever we pursue. We hope that you take a few valuable lessons about the importance of staying dedicated and focused on one's path to growth. Jenny Fleiss has been an entrepreneur since she was a child. Where most kids are content to simply sell lemonade by the cup, she spent her summer days figuring out how to bundle products, the best form of signage, and what location would generate the highest number of sales. That spirit stayed with her as she grew older, always finding creative ways to solve a problem, like the time she duct taped her heel on the fly. Co-founding both Rent the Runway and Jet Black, Jenny has only picked up steam since her lemonade days. Ever the entrepreneurial mind, she is constantly excited by ways of growing and adapting her businesses to the ever-changing needs of her audience. But that doesn't mean that business solutions have to be complicated. According to Jenny, one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself is learning how to work creatively with what you have. A chat about how the fashion trend cycle is changing and what I think that means for Summer 2023 Trends Lately I've been seeing a ton of posts about summer fashion 2023 and everyone seems to have a similar sentiment, that this year is kind of a weird one for a variety of reasons which I will get into, and no one really knows what we are wearing this summer. I thought it would be fun to explore this topic here and give you my thoughts on why this summer is a different one, what i think is happening in the world of fashion trends overall for kind of the first time in recent history, what trends I hear people talking about, mer, and what I plan to wear this summer I find trends so fascinating because to me they're like an outward expression of what our culture is going through together. So you know how we all know our outfits are an expression of ourselves and our personality and feelings each day. Well, trends are the same thing but for an entire culture. So i think they're interesting to analyze and predict. That said, it's obviously very ok to not care. Especially this year and especially in recent years in my opinion. And just because something is trendy doesn't mean you have to like it and just because something is considered uncool now doesn't mean you have to stop liking it. When the pandemic hit, Rent the Runway, a company that rents designer clothing, saw half its customers pause or cancel their monthly subscriptions. Jennifer Hyman, the CEO, talks about how she retooled the business to survive the shock, and the challenges that still remain. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Today we're talking to Jennifer Hyman, co-founder and CEO of Rent the Runway. Rent the Runway is a a pretty simple idea: it's a clothing rental and subscription business for women which launched in 2008. The basic idea is pretty simple: you can rent clothes one by one, and Subscribers pay a certain monthly amount for a certain number of pieces that they can swap out anywhere from 1 to 4 times a month depending on the tier of their membership. Rent the Runway also lets customers buy secondhand clothing either after they rent it or just outright. But Rent the Runway has had a pretty intense path from its founding in 2008 to going public in 2021: the onset of the pandemic in 2020 cratered the business as 60 percent of customers canceled or paused their subscriptions, and Jennifer was forced to make drastic cuts to survive. But she says that now things are swinging back, as more and more people are spending their dollars going out, traveling, and generally shifting their spending from things to experiences. There's a post Covid wedding boom going on: Rent the Runway is right there for people. Jen and I talked about that swing in the business, but we spent most of this conversation talking about running a company that basically does really high-risk logistics: sourcing clothes, sending them to people, getting them back, cleaning them, and sending them out again. Spotify and Netflix run subscription businesses where the products never wear out or get dirty; Jen has to deal with red win stains at scale. In fact, Rent the Runway runs one of the country's biggest dry cleaning operations, which I find to be completely fascinating: what does dry cleaning innovation actually look like, and how does it hit the bottom line? My favorite episodes of Decoder are the ones where simple ideas – renting clothes – turn out to be incredible complicated to execute. This is one of those.
