Do you know the difference between equality and equity? It's a distinction that could be at the heart of some of the issues you're facing at your center. Equality is all about fairness. It's about treating each and every person exactly the same way. And while that may seem great in theory, in practice, it ultimately harms your center's culture and prevents you from maximizing your team's potential.Let me give you a real-life example from a school leader who I'll call Lisa.Lisa was leading a group of 30 teachers, and she was struggling with team accountability—specifically punctuality. One of the teachers that was failing to show up on time was a single mom. Without any help at home, she couldn't find a way to get her kids to school and come to work on time.Being the empathetic leader she is, Lisa could see that the issue was largely outside of the teacher's control. Plus, the teacher was otherwise very reliable and wonderful at her job.So, to solve the problem, Lisa was willing to create a flexible schedule that would allow the teacher to stay late to make up for the missed time in the morning.Except for one problem: fairness.Even though she had come up with a reasonable solution, Lisa was afraid to implement it out of fear of being unfair to the other teachers. The thing is, life isn't fair. Nor should it be!Why? Because every single person is different. And by ignoring that fact, you risk denying what makes them unique and alienating them rather than lifting them up.The solution, then, is to treat your team equitably rather than equally.Unlike equality, which views everyone through the lens of sameness, equity is about seeing people's differences and providing them with what they need to succeed.By recognizing that everyone has strengths and weaknesses, you can create a stronger and more cohesive team. And isn't that the ultimate goal?In this week's podcast episode, I'm exploring what I like to call "the fairness game," or the idea that treating people equally is the mark of good leadership. As you'll learn in the episode, this is far from the truth and can actually harm your center.Join me for a conversation about:Why treating all employees fairly, or equally, is a bad ideaThe important difference between equality and equityHow to create an equitable environment at your centerReplacing fairness-based leadership with values-based leadershipLearn more and apply for the Director's Inner Circle & Owner's HQ: http://Chanie.me/jointhedic If you're looking for long-term support in creating a healthier school environment, join our Owner's Only HQ and Director's Inner Circle membership programs. Tech stocks were slam dunk investments for the past decade. No matter what you invested in—Google, Facebook, Amazon, or even some obscure AI toaster company—you probably made decent returns. But, after years of continuous economic growth and massive government stimulus, tech stocks are finally starting to get shaky. The problem? New investors like Zoe have huge paper losses on their dashboards. But is this worth worrying over?Zoe is an ideal investor. At just twenty-four, she already has close to six-figure wealth, with a house hack, a respectable retirement portfolio, and a solid income every month. She's making the right moves but feels like some of her most recent choices haven't hit the mark. She dabbled in stock picking as her income went up, investing in some of the biggest names in tech over the past few years. Her house hack, which is almost letting her live for free, was bought at the top of the market with an average interest rate.Zoe needs to know what to do next. Should she sell her tech stocks and invest the money into index funds where she can let it ride? Should she buy a new house hack that allows her to live for free instead of at a discount? And where should she put the thousands of dollars she's saving every month to ensure her a life of financial freedom in the near future? Zoe has some enviable problems, and on this Finance Friday, we'll be solving them!In This Episode We CoverThe 2022 stock market crash and whether selling and cutting your losses is a smart ideaThe right way to invest in tech stocks and how to get educated on stock pickingHouse hacking and how deals that aren't “home runs” can still be huge winnersGetting paid to learn about real estate and using your downtime to boost your financial knowledgeFHA loans, conventional loans, USDA loans, and other ways to fund a property purchase for low money downThe right moves to make in your early twenties and why Zoe is a role model for new graduatesAnd So Much More!Links from the ShowFind an Investor-Friendly Real Estate AgentBiggerPockets Money Facebook GroupBiggerPockets ForumsFinance Review Guest OnboardingMindy's TwitterScott's InstagramListen to All Your Favorite BiggerPockets Podcasts in One PlaceApply to Be a Guest on The Money ShowPodcast Talent Search!Subscribe to The “On The Market” YouTube ChannelListen to The “On The Market” Podcast: Spotify, Apple Podcasts, BiggerPocketsCheck Out Mindy's 2022 Live Spending Tracker and BudgetThe 4 Steps to Financial Freedom and Debt-Free WealthIs Now the Time to Buy as The Housing Market Starts to Dip?Click here to check the full show notes: https://www.biggerpockets.com/blog/money-356Interested in learning more about today's sponsors or becoming a BiggerPockets partner yourself? In this episode, you ‘ll also hear:5 reasons your book needs a big ideaHow this concept differs from a theme or topicHow to identify your big ideaThe next step to take in your book launch journeyBe sure to read all the way to the end for a link to the book launch checklist and video training! In today's crowded author space, it's essential that you have a solid book launch plan in place if you want to stand out and make an impact. There are far too many books out there that never get the traction or success that they deserve. As an author, it can be extremely frustrating to pour your heart and soul into a book and try your best to market it, only to end up with disappointing results. Last time, we talked about the first step in a successful book launch process, the one thing that you absolutely must do before you launch your book: to clarify your book's purpose and target audience. Understanding who your ideal readers are will help you craft a message that speaks directly to them, which exponentially increases your chances of success. In addition, having a solid understanding of what your book is supposed to accomplish will help guide you as you move forward with your marketing and promotion efforts. Now, let's take a look at Book Launch success Secret #2: Your book must have a big idea.A big idea is a unique, attention-getting concept that captures the essence of your work and has the power to inspire your readers and move them to action. As you might imagine, we talk about this concept a lot in the marketing space. Big Ideas can take many different forms. Some are rooted in groundbreaking theories and research, while others are rooted in powerful stories that change our perspective on the world around us. You may not realize it, but big ideas play an important role in just about every industry — not just book publishing, but also business, politics, and even religion. They are what people or businesses use to become backable. Big Ideas are what draw the right people in and repel others.5 Reasons Your Book Needs a Big IdeaBefore we get into how to find your big idea, let's talk about why it's important to have one. Here are five reasons your book needs a big idea. 1. A big idea makes your book unique. As authorpreneurs, we cannot afford to ever forget that we have competition. There is a sea of millions of books out there, so we've got to do something to make our books stand out and grab attention. And that's exactly what your big idea is designed to do. 2. A big idea makes your book memorable. This is important, because readers will remember a book that had a big, attention-grabbing idea at its core. Much as it may pain us as authors, the truth is that the reader may not remember the details of the plot, the characters, or even all the steps in our signature process. But they will remember the feeling they got from reading about a new and exciting concept (that is, your big idea!). 3. A big idea helps you sell more books. If readers are intrigued by the concept you break down and your big idea, they are more likely to tell their friends about your book and leave a positive book review online. This taps into the principle of helping your audience overcome their “hurdle bias.” You see, we all have hurdles to overcome and things we want to do. It's not that your audience doesn't believe in your book or doesn't want to show you love — it's just that they have a never-ending to-do list. Even something as simple as thinking of what to say in their book review can seem really difficult when they have so many other things to think about. But when your book has a really profound big idea, it becomes so consuming that they can't help but take that extra step and tell other people about it. That's called word-of-mouth marketing: When something gets us really excited and we find it truly transformational, we can't wait to tell others about it and encourage them to try it out, too. Word-of-mouth marketing is one of the most effective ways to sell books, and your big idea is a huge part of giving that word-of-mouth marketing a boost. 4. A big idea helps you build your platform as an author. Imagine for a moment that you're in a convention center, a conference room, or at church. What's at the front of the room? Chances are, there's some type of stage or platform. And what is that stage or platform designed to do? It's designed to get everyone in the room to focus on one central place. Typically, the speaker or minister steps onto that stage, and it's all eyes on them. That's exactly what your big idea has the potential to do — to create stages for you. It creates opportunities for you to share your message, because it gets people talking about your book and focused on you and your unique ideas. That's why having a big idea is actually the key to all the other things that you want to fall into place, like boosting your social media following, growing your email list, and (of course!) selling more books. 5. A big idea makes your book timeless. Trends come and go, but a big idea will never go out of style. Think about it this way: as believers, we are following principles in a book that is literally based on someone who was here thousands of years ago! The messages contained in our Bible were spoken so long ago, and yet they are so relevant in our everyday life. And it's not just the Bible — there are so many other books that are still here, that are left on record for us, even though the authors have been long gone. Their message is timeless, because they captured a big idea. Likewise, if your book has a timeless message or concept, it will be relevant for years to come and continue to sell long after it's published. More Than a Theme or TopicThere is a very important distinction that we need to make here. A theme or a topic is not the same thing as a big idea. Some examples of themes include:The Hero's Journey: The story of a character who goes on a quest or journey. That character may be fictional, or they may be the author or the client or group that the author serves. Throughout their journey, they must encounter obstacles that test their resolve. This theme is found in works like The Lord of the Rings, The Odyssey, or Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The Power of Love: Stories where characters experience love in many forms, whether it be romantic love, familial love, platonic love, etc. these characters must also grapple with the challenges that come along with love, such as heartbreak, loss, and betrayal. This theme is found in works like William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, War and Peace, and The Handmaid's Tale. Throughout history, countless books have been written on the same basic themes of love, resilience, self-improvement, or success. These topics have become the foundation for countless novels and nonfiction books alike. But what sets some of these books apart from each other is their big idea: a lesson or concept that taps into our deepest hopes and fears, things we struggle with but don't know how to overcome. This big idea acts as a powerful hack. It's like a magnet that draws us to that particular book, because we're excited about its potential to transform our lives for the better. It provides us with unique wisdom or a set of practical tools that we can apply to our own situation in order to achieve greater success and happiness. This is what makes a book truly timeless. It goes beyond simply telling us about a particular idea or strategy; instead, it provides us with actionable advice that we can take on our own journey of self-transformation. So if you want to make a real impact with your book, it's essential that you find your big idea, this unique piece of advice or wisdom that really resonates with the target audience you identified in Book Launch Success Secret #1. Finding your big idea is more than just saying what you think or teaching readers how to do something. To identify your big idea, you need to dig deep and really explore what sets your book apart. What is the one key insight that makes your work truly stand out? And how is it relevant to the struggles or questions your ideal audience is facing right now in this season of their lives?Once you've identified this big idea, it should act as the foundation for everything else in your book. It should be reflected in the title, the structure, the tone of voice, the content of each chapter, and even in your marketing. With a strong big idea at the core of your book, you can successfully launch for the first time — or resurrect a dead book and revive its impact on readers around the world. How to Find Your Big IdeaLet's be real, finding your big idea can seem like an overwhelming task. How, exactly, do you stand out from the crowd and come up with something truly original and innovative?Start by praying and asking God for guidance. Remember, God is concerned about everything that concerns you. He's the one who gave you this message to share with the world, so He has all the answers you need. He can help you brainstorm unique angles and ways of thinking that are sure to make your big ideas stand out from the rest. So make sure you're inviting God into this process, not only in coming up with the original concept or message, but every step of the way as you prepare to launch. Second, make sure you are spending quality time with your ideal reader and getting to know their needs and desires so you can create a big idea that will truly resonate with them. Unfortunately, this is where we often miss the mark as Christian authors. We get the message — the download, if you will — and it's true that God has given us this message to share with the world. But what we miss is that there still has to be an emotional connection between our audience and us. There's no way you would ask someone to marry you if you just met them, right? You haven't spent any time with them, so you don't really know who they are or what they're about, or even any of their likes and dislikes. It's the same with selling books. If you ask someone to buy your book, but you haven't spent any time with them — meaning you don't have any idea what things are important to them — then why would they want to buy your book? Just like you need to spend quality time with someone you're dating, you need to spend quality time with your ideal reader. You want to know your ideal reader so well that if you were on a game show, you could answer all of the questions and get them all right. You want them to feel amazed that you know them so well. To make that happen, you need to spend time with your audience in Facebook groups, on Reddit or Quora, and through conversations with people in your everyday life who fit in with your ideal audience. Don't be afraid to ask someone to jump on a Zoom call and have a conversation with you! The more time you spend with your ideal audience, the clearer you'll get on what their struggles are and how the message God has given you can impact them in the form of a big idea. You Have an AssignmentYes, identifying a big idea that makes you stand out is work. And if it were just about satisfying your personal goal to write a book, then it might not be worth all that effort. But this is bigger than a goal. You have a call — an assignment. There are people who are waiting for you and your message. There may be thousands of books on the concept or topic that God wants you to focus on, but when you really get in tune with God and your ideal audience, your big idea will impact a segment of that population in a way that no one else can. You are literally the answer to their prayer! You are the key that unlocks the door. That means you can't afford to not do the work. You've got to get in touch with this big idea, because when you do, you can launch an unforgettable book that will truly stand out to those that matter the most: the people who are waiting for you.Does your book have a big idea? If your answer is no, or you're not sure, there's nothing to be embarrassed about. But there is something you need to do. Take the matter to God in prayer and ask Him to guide you. Then spend time with your ideal audience. The investment of time and energy will be worth it, because it will help you fulfill your calling to impact the world with your message. How to Start a Small Business at Home Starting a new business venture isn't easy, but these six steps will help you make much-needed progress. In the U.S., 69% of new entrepreneurs will start their businesses out of their homes. If you've been thinking about starting a small business at home, here are six steps to help you get started.Come up with your business ideaThe first step to starting a small business is coming up with a winning business idea. Ideally, you'll develop a business venture that interests you and meets a need in the market.A great way to do this is by identifying a problem that frustrates you. Is there an issue that you continually encounter that you wish someone would solve? That could be your next business venture. But you don't necessarily have to reinvent the wheel. Take a look at the businesses that are already out there and ask yourself how you could improve upon what they're already doing. Are there any gaps in the marketplace that you could fill?Decide what you're going to sellA lot goes into starting a business, but the first place to start is to figure out what you plan to sell. Your success as a business depends on your ability to sell products or services to your customers.Come up with a list of ideas for products or services you can offer. From there, you should consider the following questions:Is there a demand for this product or service? How will this benefit my customers?Would I purchase this product or service? What could I reasonably charge? Is there enough of a demand for me to make a profit?Write a business planNext, you'll write a business plan. A business plan will help you gain clarity as you're getting started, and it will help tremendously if you decide to apply for small business financing in the future.According to the SBA, most business plans fall under the category of a traditional business or a lean startup. You'll go into great detail in a traditional business plan. These plans can be several dozen pages long and are required by most lenders and investors. In comparison, a lean startup business plan focuses on a high-level overview of the business. You'll summarize the most important aspects of your business, and it will only be about a page long. This will be much faster to create, but if you seek out funding, investors may ask for more information.Decide on your business's legal structureChoosing the correct legal structure is an important part of running your business. If you want to get started quickly and with as little hassle as possible, a sole proprietorship may be right for you. With this type of business model, you don't have a partner or executive board to answer to, so you're in complete control of all the decisions. Keep in mind, though, there is no legal separation between you and the business; you're responsible for any debts and lawsuits that the business incurs. In contrast, a limited liability company (LLC) provides more flexibility and creates a legal separation between you and the business; however, there is more paperwork to fill out, and you'll have to file your business with the state.Apply for your EINYour Employer Identification Number (EIN) is a federal tax number that will identify your business entity. If you ever plan to register your business as an LLC or hire employees, you'll need an EIN.Without an EIN, you'll have to use your Social Security Number to identify your business, so applying for an EIN can help you keep your Social Security Number safe. You can apply for free on the IRS website and receive your EIN within minutes.Set up a business bank accountOnce you've established your business entity, you should set up a business bank account. This is important because it separates your personal finances from your business finances. It's a good idea to partner with a local bank so you can establish a personal relationship. Many people find that smaller banks are more helpful and are able to respond quickly if a problem occurs.Look into insuranceThere are a number of risks that come with running your own business, including lawsuits, data breaches or business interruption. So you should start by making sure you have the right insurance.A good place to start is by looking into a Business Owner's Policy (BOP). This type of insurance includes three different types of coverage:General liability insurance: This insurance covers bodily injury, property damage or personal injury.Commercial property insurance: Commercial property insurance protects the equipment used to run your business.Business income insurance: If you're unable to run your business for some reason, business income insurance can help pay for necessary expenses like payroll. It's a good idea to speak to an insurance agent for recommendations that are specific to your business.Set up a home officeIf you plan to work from home, it's a good idea to set up a designated home office. This can either be an empty room in your home or just a designated corner in your bedroom. But you want to choose an area that will offer you a certain degree of privacy. Also, be mindful of the background, especially if you'll have to conduct client calls regularly.Work with an accountantTaxes are confusing to most people, and they get even more complex when you're running a small business. Plus, you need advice on how to structure your business, how to set up payroll and how to track your expenses. That's why it's a good idea to hire an accountant. An accountant can help you with all of this and ensure that your business is up to date with the most recent tax laws. And in the unlikely event that your business is audited, an accountant can walk you through this process.Check on any legal requirementsAnytime you're starting a new business, it's a good idea to check on the state and local requirements. Some states will require a business license or permit, and you could be fined for failing to follow these requirements.Depending on the type of business you plan to run, you may need to look into local zoning laws. Once you've chosen a business structure and fulfilled your state's registration requirements, check to see if there are any other laws that could affect your business.Come up with a marketing planMarketing is crucial for building a successful business, but too many business owners go into it without a plan. This lack of planning often leads them to spend a bunch of money without seeing any real results. Or worse — something does work, but they have no way to recreate it.That's why it's essential to start with a marketing plan. A marketing plan will outline how you plan to get the word out about your new business. It will typically include:An overview of your marketing goals.A description of your target market and customer.A timeline of tasks to be completed.Important metrics to track along the way. From there, you can outline your plans for your website, social media channels and company branding.Test your business ideaNow it's time to get out there and test your business idea, which means you need to focus on making some sales. After all, successful businesses are measured based on profitability. There is no perfect plan to launch your business, and you may encounter many missteps in the beginning. It can help to partner with more established businesses to get your name out there and grow more quickly.Regardless of the strategy you implement, you should be prepared to adjust as you go. The important thing is that you're creating a solution that's relevant and fills a need for your customers.I am inviting you to check out my resources page. It is completely FREE and has a ton information and some downloads. You can find it at resources.xpansioncode.com.I will be releasing new episodes every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday!

Thoughtful Christians are faced with challenging dilemmas when investing. On the one hand, they want to be a wise and careful investor, paying attention to risk and returns while attempting to maintain prudent diversification. On the other hand, they don't want to own an investment backed by a company which makes its profits in activities which are explicitly sinful. How should the believer face these challenges? My guest today is entrepreneur Sheelin Conlon of The Kind Ethical Lifestyle Store. I was an admirer of The Kind brand before realising it was the lovely Sheelin behind this new sustainability store. We had shared an office in a previous life, both starting on a Ph.D. doctoral research journey over a decade ago. Our paths diverted as Sheelin chose a creative direction into digital advertising before going the entrepreneurial route, setting up The Kind in 2018. I was so keen to chat with her and hear how the store came to be. She was so busy before Christmas that we had to postpone our chat, but I am so glad to share her story here today. I believe there will be a need for people to create their own business opportunities and revive the retail scene in the coming years. Both on account of COVID-19, and the need to build more sustainable and ethical alternatives. And so I was grateful that Sheelin was willing to share the highs and the lows of starting out in business. She shares honest and practical advice that may well encourage any aspiring entrepreneurs listening in, to take the brave next step and just go for it! TOPICS DISCUSSED:Female EntrepreneurshipPivoting in business - listening to your consumer's needs and wantsThe practicalities of investing in your business ideaThe necessity of Instagram and other social media tools for online retail - substitute for the in-store experience and personal relationship with customers Personal Branding The perils of shelving in retail! As the CIO of Spotlight Asset Group,https://www.linkedin.com/in/shsissel/ ( Shana Sissel) oversees all aspects of the investment platform ranging from overall strategy, implementation, and communication to clients and prospects. Shana has nearly two decades of industry experience at leading investment firms, primarily in Boston and Chicago. She previously served as Director of Investment Due Diligence & a Senior Portfolio Manager with Orion Advisor Solutions. Shana is a sought-after speaker & media contributor, frequently appearing at industry events and major financial news outlets like CNBC, Bloomberg, and Fox Business News. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management from the UMass-Amherst and a Master of Business Administration Degree from Bentley University’s McCallum School of Business. Shana is a proud holder of the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation. “If you have an idea, the knowledge, and you’ve done the work, then don’t be afraid to go out and talk about it or have a differentiated viewpoint.” Shana Sissel Worst investment everLate 2006 or early 2007, Shana was interviewing for an equity research analyst position at a major global asset manager. Part of the interview process was to pitch a stock that you believed in and do the work and have enough conviction. A stock that you would put your own money in. Banking on AppleShana did a write up on Apple. She believed that this was it. It was an excellent choice. Shana’s pitch was based on the fact that Apple was just about to launch the very first iPhone. At the time, the stock was probably trading at $3 a share. She had done her research well and believed that the iPhone was going to be a complete game-changer. Trying to sell a newcomerApple, at the time, had no market share. Blackberry ruled the world when it came to smartphones. Shana’s selling point was that it would develop this ecosystem because Apple had such a brand commitment from the people who used it. A generation of students was coming up that would prefer Apple to the larger brands at the time. Laughed out of the roomSo Shana went in and pitched the iPhone as a game-changer. She projected the stock would grow to $150. She got laughed out of the room and was told to pick a different career. Shana was unable to convince the portfolio manager that she was interviewing with to purchase Apple. Losing confidence in her ideaWhen Shana got laughed at, her confidence completely left her. Shana stopped trusting her instincts, and in all the work she had put into her pitch. She believed the portfolio manager who told her that she was wrong simply because he was in a position of power and had more experience than her. Failing to invest in her ideaThe worst part of it all was not that nobody believed her, but that Shana didn’t believe in herself enough to invest in Apple. This missed opportunity went down to be her worst investment ever because the iPhone went on to be a game-changer just as she had predicted, and she missed out on the returns it has made over the years. Lessons learnedIt’s ok to think differentlyIt’s ok to have different views from other people. Just because others disagree with you doesn’t mean you’re wrong. Thinking differently is a positive thing. When it comes to investing, that’s how you win. Following the crowd is never how you win. You win by being different, thinking different, and seeing things differently. Do your homeworkIf you have an investment opportunity, but you don’t trust your judgment, do your research so that you can be sure it’s worth investing in. You can’t convince somebody else if you can’t convince yourself. As long as you’re making good, thoughtful investments and doing the work, and you are confident in your investment, even if it turns out you were wrong, you win because it’s always about learning something new. Imagine you're Dr. Dolittle and could speak to animals. Today, you decide to talk to a fish in a fishbowl and asked, “how's the water today?” The fish looks at you surprised and asks, “What is water?” As humans, we have more in common with that fish than we would like to believe. In today's episode, we are going to be exploring our “water”. It's the filter through which we understand and make sense of our world. In today's episode, we are going to begin to lay out for you what we believe the Bible tells us about the fifth sequential principle of money management...LUXURIES. For over 30 years we have passionately taught that after we give to the Lord, save for our family, spend wisely to pay our bills on time, and look for the needs of others through offering. Then, with the “surplus” income we can choose to spend on some of the “luxuries” of life. Are luxuries bad in and of themselves? If there’s a few words this year that have been played on loop – I think they would be the words pivot, reinvention and digital deep end.I feel like for many of us, as individuals and brands, there was a long list of activities we knew we needed to do in order to increase our influence in a digital world. However, the general consensus was that we had years right? At least a few years to figure out how to tell epic stories online, how to compete with Netflix by making our pitches and presentations utterly compelling, how to transition our sales strategies to include new market segments we can’t reach face to face. How to embrace different business models like subscriptions, memberships and digital tribes. And – perhaps most foundational decision – how to translate what we know, our expertise and message – in order to take your target audience on an Unskippable journey.Well those years, turned into months, which turned into weeks – which for many – eventually became days to turn around some of these changes. And those who did it well, who will come out with an edge for 2021 – having activated plans and strategies that may have taken years before the pandemic. If you look closely enough, they all tend to have one thing in common. They went out to the edges, to people and brands in completely different industries – who have been perfecting these tools for years – and they listened carefully. So that’s what we’re here to do today. My guest this week is Eric Bandholz. Eric is the Founder of Beardbrand, a men’s grooming company that I have been watching for years as they blaze a trail in a previously crowded space. Along with his co-founders, Eric bootstrapped Beardbrand to a high seven-figure company by focusing on (in their words) ‘badass’ products, digital storytelling, focusing on collaborations and building a community of fever pitch fans. In cracking the code of a new age of storytelling – Eric also built a Youtube channel dedicated to just answering the questions of his target audience – a channel that now has close to 250 million views, 1.5 million subscribers – and which in and of itself provides a pretty sizeable independant revenue stream. In this conversation we dive into:Pivoting from budgets to beards – his journey starting out as a financial advisor and finding his breakthrough ideaThe myth that if you build it they will come – and the truth that roadmap is often more valuable to your target market than the destinationWhy focusing only on ‘How to’ videos on YouTube was the secret of their successHow to forget the idea that everything we produce needs to be high production and perfect in order to create engagement – and why what works on YouTube (and I would argue most other platforms) is actually the exact oppositeAnd finally, authenticity vs Intention. How, during one of the most difficult periods of his life, he made the decision about what – and what not – to share. What I want you to reflect on while you listen to Eric is how the path to cut through isn’t a straight line. It’s a series of listening to your gut, making moves, building things, reassessing and choosing to embody rather than hide behind a brand. The most significant moments – the ones where you take leaps forward you couldn’t have imagined – they aren’t the result of a ‘this plus that’ equation. You can rarely pin point that exact things that made those particular doors open.Apart from this one. You have to start. You have to accept that you will get it wrong – you might look or feel foolish - usually for a nano second before we all move onto the next attention grabbing thing. And in a digital world where everything feels so on display – that takes a level of courage and curiosity that isn’t easy. However – as we’ve seen this year – for those who are willing to consistently show up at that level, the opportunities are literally limitless. So, on that note, sit back, stroll on, find a quiet corner or open that packet of biscuits that you’ve been hiding for the next lock down. And enjoy my conversation with the one of a kind that is Eric Bandholz. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Today's episode is going to be a good one! We are going to lay out what we believe the Bible says about the fourth sequential principle of money management...OFFERINGS. For over 30 years we have passionately taught that after we give generously back to the Lord of our first-fruits and blessings, and then take a portion of the remaining money and save it, we are to then spend wisely and pay our bills on time. Now that our bills are paid, we have the privilege to look for the needs of others and be a blessing through what we call “offering”. In today's episode, we are going to begin to lay out for you what we believe the Bible tells us about the third sequential principle of money management...and that is SPEND. For over 30 years we have passionately taught that first, we give to our local church to honor the Lord, then we build savings to protect our family. Next we are to spend wisely and pay our bills on time. This has everything to do with our testimony and reputation. In today's episode, we are going to begin to lay out for you what we believe the Bible tells us about the second sequential principle of money management...and that is SAVE. For over 30 years we have passionately preached and taught that after we give generously back to the Lord of our first-fruits and blessings, we are to next, take a portion of the remaining money and save it. In today's episode, we are going to begin to lay out for you what we believe the Bible tells us about God's priorities regarding our financial stewardship. We firmly believe that God has richly blessed the church with the financial resources to make huge progress towards fulfilling the Great Commission. Yet, many people in churches today do not understand their opportunity or responsibility in financial stewardship to unleash the power of the Gospel on the world today.Learn more at: StewardologyPodcast.comSchedule a Personal Stewardship Review at: StewardologyPodcast.com/ReviewGet in touch with us at: Contact@StewardologyPodcast.comor call us at: (800) 688-5800Send us episode ideas! As a believer, we all understand that God owns it all, that we are just the temporary managers of God's assets. It's very common for us to meet Christians who think that the majority of what God has to say on the topic of money is to give some of it to the church (i.e. tithing). They are often surprised to find that the Word of God has much more to say on the topic of money and finance. In fact, all throughout the Bible, God is teaching us how to trust him with our resources. Today, we're going to introduce how we think, handle, and advise Christians on Stewardship and prioritization.Learn more at: StewardologyPodcast.comSchedule a Personal Stewardship Review at: StewardologyPodcast.com/ReviewGet in touch with us at: Contact@StewardologyPodcast.comor call us at: (800) 688-5800Send us episode ideas! Three Nashville proud friends, Sam Davidson, Stephen Moseley, and Rob Williams, had the idea to start Batch, a gift company curating items made by artisans from their beloved city. Initially starting off selling subscription boxes in 2013, Batch switched gears to be a gift company and grew to have its own retail space while generating $1.8 million in sales annually. In this episode of Shopify Masters, you'll hear from Sam Davidson of Batch on how they validated the concept, work with local makers, and switched their business focus. Sarah Houldcroft is an Independent Publisher at goldcrestbooks.com She is also a Business Book Coach - turning business experts into expert authors"I’m the founder of Goldcrest Books and I like to say I make dreams come true! If you have ever dreamed of becoming a published author then I’m your woman so to speak. I work with new and existing authors, both fiction and non fiction. I take their manuscripts and create paperbacks and ebooks, help them with Amazon and basically take the stress out of the whole process and make it a fun experience for my clients.I think authors face two main challenges – the first one is actually getting started with writing, I am thinking particularly of business books here. Turning a wish into a Word document is the hardest thing for a lot of potential authors. A huge percentage of people who want to write a book don’t actually ever do it. So I work with clients to help them get started. If any of your listeners are struggling with this then I offer a free download to help particularly coaches, speakers and business experts start writing. It is called the 4Ps principle to start writing your first book https://www.goldcrestbooks.com/the-4ps-principle/ I also offer 1-2-1 sessions with clients to help them find or develop a book ideaThe second challenge is promoting the book after it is published. Business books have a slightly easier time perhaps as generally the author already has a number of contacts or clients that she can reach out to. But it does take perseverance and generally a lot of time on social media! One of my authors turned down a traditional publishing deal as she felt she could do a better job herself. She is on social media every day and sells pretty consistently. Just putting a book up on Amazon just isn’t enough these days. The key is to be creative and get noticed, obviously."Connect with Sarah at goldcrestbooks.comSupport the show (https://costawomen.com/help/contact)
In this episode we discuss what causes the big moments that can transform your entire life in an instant and we show you how to create that kind of motivation and inspiration in your every day life so that you can be more productive and happier. We also expose why the common wisdom about willpower and “ego depletion” is completely wrong and what you should do instead. All this and much more with our guest James Fell. James Fell is an author, owner of BodyForWife.com, and science-based motivator for lasting life change. He is one of the most read health and fitness writers in North America and currently writes articles for the Los Angeles Times and Chicago Tribune. His work has been featured in numerous publications including TIME Magazine, Men’s Health, Women’s Health, and much more. He is the author of the recently released book The Holy Sh!t Moment: How Lasting Change Can Happen in an Instant. When we have a transformative experience it’s not about behavior change, its about a change in your CORE IDENTITY or your VALUESWhat causes the big moments that can shift or transform your life in an instant?Minimizing the discomfort of change so that it doesn’t combat your core identity to much In order to create lasting behavior change and form sticky habits its a slow and painful processIdentity and value change can happen in a flash, effortlessly Do we have to use willpower and grit? Do we have to tough it out and suck it up? The idea that people can’t change because they lack willpower is DEEPLY FLAWED The 1996 Case Western Study - would you rather eat chocolate or radishes? “Ego depletion” - the idea that willpower is a limited resource - is a flawed and dated ideaThe 2 big flaws with the studies about ego depletion and willpowerWillpower is often irrelevant to the equation of motivationWillpower training and efforts to increase willpower have never shown any effectHaving to power through and do things you hate has negative mental and physical consequences The “Rage to Master” and how it drives people to work relentlessly on things they are overwhelmingly passionate about Rather than trying to CREATE GREATNESS - find the thing that makes you WANT TO CREATE GREATNESS - the field that naturally makes you want to strive for greatness Happiness vs Flourishing Happiness is a state of mind - it’s temporaryWhat really drives people is flourishing - finding something where you a contributing to your own wellbeing and the wellbeing of othersThe science of epiphanies and eureka moments - how you can prep and prepare your brain for insights What could I accomplish if I had an endless fountain of motivation to do it? What could that be?Life changing epiphanies typically happen after you’ve done deep analytical preparation work The answers don’t come when you’re trying to solve the problem, they come later when the conscious mind is distracted. Go for a walk. Do something to distract yourself. You can’t be listening to a podcast, listening to an audiobook etc - you can’t be distracted in any way. You have to get inside your own head and let data meander and collide until you see a novel solution.“Most people tip toe through life trying to make it safely to death."What if life could be more of a thrill ride? Keys to creating life changing epiphaniesHomework: As soon as you finish listening to this podcast, go lie down in a quiet place with no distraction. No TV, no radio, no phone, no one talking. Joining us on the podcast today is Matt Myers. Husband, father of 2 young boys, co-founder of Broneah Kiteboarding, co-founder of the hugely successful Northern Michigan lifestyle brand M22 and co-founder of the now infamous M22 Challenge. If all that wasn’t enough, Matt is a 5 year Chordoma Cancer survivor, an accomplished kite surfer, motocross racer, mountain biker, and stand up paddle boarder. Matt and I became friends over 9 years ago when his then fiancé Stephanie and my wife Kim started working together. Over the years we’ve had many dinner party conversations and he has inspired me with an infusion of entrepreneurial spirit. In fact, Matt wife's Stephanie created my first TC SURFSKI Logo which was instrumental in getting the business off the ground. Matt and his brother Keegan were two of the first pioneers to realize how phenomenal the wind and waves are in our special spot along Lake Michigan. They saw and promoted the world class potential, much as I have tried to do with surfski. The M22 Lifestyle brand evolved from that passion for the wind, waves, and beaches, and the M22 Challenge brings it all together with a run on the sand dunes, a bike ride around one of the most beautiful inland lakes in the world, and a paddle that has become the single biggest exposure for surfskis across the Great Lakes. The race is capped at 900 participants and sells out in 3 minutes. This year I expect to see at least 70 surfskis. My initial plan was to get Matt out surfing some waves on Lake Michigan in my tandem surfski, but as all of us wind chasers know all too well, when you actually build plans around wind it never comes. We didn’t get a chance to get out in the Epic V10 Double, but I won’t let this summer go by without giving him a true surfski downwind experience As it goes when young kids are in the mix, time was limited and we only had a short window to record this podcast, so we didn’t go deep in all areas, but we did have a great conversation and covered a lot of ground including: Earth Day at M22 - Coincidentally we recorded this podcast on Saturday April 22nd designated as Earth Day. At a time when many environmental causes are seeing funding reduced, the M22 team decided to donate all sales from the day to the Leelanau Conservancy. In the end they raised over $20,000 dollars for a great non-profit that works tirelessly to persevere the precious Leelanau Peninsula we so enjoy!M22 Challenge, the early days. Going back to when it was just an ideaThe most embarrassing moment of the M22 race (hint - dominos)Matt’s leap into becoming a cardio athlete (At the time that Matt started the M22 Challenge, he himself was not a cardio racer)Matt’s experience racing the M22 Challenge for the first timeWhat it was like and what it took to ride 10,000 feet up Mount Haleakalā on Maui on the 5th anniversary of his Chordoma Brain Cancer diagnosisConsiderations for launching another multi-sport race?Becoming a father Here is a great article that goes much deeper on Matt's Chordoma Experience And another article on how it all began http://mynorth.com/2016/07/road-trip-with-m22-the-story-of-how-it-all-got-started/
