Salum Abdul-Rahman: The SECI Model of Knowledge Management Applied to Team Retrospectives Read the full Show Notes and search through the world's largest audio library on Agile and Scrum directly on the Scrum Master Toolbox Podcast website: http://bit.ly/SMTP_ShowNotes. Salum explains how the key role for Scrum Masters is to help teams develop themselves to the point where they can learn and grow without constant guidance. Success means building team resilience and operational capability while knowing when to step back. He emphasizes the importance of recalibration workshops to maintain shared understanding and the balance between supporting teams and challenging them to become self-sufficient. When teams reach this level of maturity, Scrum Masters can focus their efforts elsewhere, knowing the team has developed the capability to continue evolving independently. Featured Retrospective Format for the Week: The 5-Stage Retro Format From the book "Agile Retrospectives," this format captures the complete learning process and aligns beautifully with knowledge management principles. Salum connects the three central phases of this format to the SECI model of knowledge management, particularly referencing Nonaka and Takeuchi's work in "The Knowledge Creating Company." This retrospective structure helps teams create new knowledge and behavioral change by following a systematic approach that transforms individual insights into collective team learning and action. In this segment, we also refer to the seminal article by Takeuchi and Nonaka: “The New New Product Development Game”, which originated the work on Scrum as a framework.  Self-reflection Question: How do you recognize when your team has developed enough self-sufficiency that your role as facilitator can evolve or step back? In contrast, the line of Seth began to call upon the name of the Lord, openly declaring their dependence on Him. This contrast reveals the spiritual divide between those who live without God and those who walk in faith, showing that true hope and redemption are found only when people humbly turn to the Lord and identify themselves with Him. Saudi Arabia had long known that it had a weakness: Food. Seeking to end its dependency on food imports, Saudi Arabia in 1980 embarked on a massive self-sufficiency program fueled by oil money and fossil water. That program eventually focused on a single water thirsty crop: Wheat. Things got a bit out of control. In the mid-1980s and early 1990s, Saudi Arabia pumped more groundwater than oil. And 5% of the entire 1991 Saudi budget was being spent on growing more wheat than anyone can eat. In today's video, a noble policy with long-running water consequences.

This month: According to lifelong gardener Barbara Damrosch, growing food is an undeniably radical act. In her latest book, “A Life in the Garden: Tales and Tips for Growing Food in Every Season,” Damrosch, now in her 80s, invites others to join her in tending the earth and celebrating the harvest — and she shares practical and personal advice for novice and experienced gardeners alike. This month's episode of Common Ground Radio is a special conversation with Damrosch about her new book and her life in the garden. We talked in her Brooksville, Maine, home, which she shares with Eliot Coleman. After they married in 1991, the two began collaborating in the field, as Four Season Farm, as well as on the page — similar to another iconic gardener-author duo, Helen and Scott Nearing of “Living the Good Life” fame. Damrosch counts the Nearings as a major influence on her relationship to the land, and Four Season Farm is sited on acreage previously owned by the Nearings, purchased by Coleman in 1968. What happens when life throws you a devastating curveball? For Kody and her family, her husband's end-stage liver disease diagnosis with just one year to live became the catalyst for a complete lifestyle transformation. They sold everything, bought a farm, and began growing their own food—a decision that ultimately led to his liver fully healing eight years later. This conversation takes us deep into the intersection of homesteading and homeschooling, revealing how one family found purpose, health, and a thriving business by reconnecting with traditional skills. Kody shares candidly about their journey from thinking "we don't want to spend all day with our children" to creating an integrated life where education happens naturally through meaningful work. Her story of watching her once-struggling son thrive outside traditional education—eventually becoming a $50/hour foreman at age 20—challenges conventional thinking about learning and success. As founder of Homestead Education, Kody created curriculum that's now used in five countries after discovering a surprising gap in agricultural education resources. "Food is literally humanity's most driving force, and yet nobody knows how to do it," she explains, describing how her materials blend agriculture, science, and home economics for all ages. From raising heritage pigs to managing a micro-dairy, her family demonstrates how developing self-sufficiency skills creates resilience and purpose beyond what conventional systems offer.Whether you're curious about homesteading, considering homeschooling, or simply interested in more sustainable living, this episode offers practical wisdom and inspiration. In this episode, I'm opening up with a little encouragement and honesty—because homesteading doesn't have to be picture-perfect to be meaningful. I'm talking about redefining what homesteading looks like when money's tight, and how purpose-driven hustle can still lead to big wins. I share real, practical tips on cutting costs through cooking from scratch, bartering and trading, offering labor in exchange for goods or knowledge, and sourcing what you need for free or cheap. The focal point of today's discourse revolves around the Enneagram Type Five, characterized by their profound inclination towards detachment and observation as a means of navigating an overwhelmingly stimulating world. We delve into the complexities inherent in the Five's experience, particularly emphasizing their heightened sensitivity, which often compels them to create emotional distance from their surroundings. Throughout our dialogue, various participants elucidate the nuances of the Five's emotional landscape, shedding light on the intricate interplay between intellect and feeling that defines their existence. Additionally, we reflect upon the common misconceptions surrounding Fives, particularly the notion that they are devoid of emotion, highlighting instead their rich internal life and the necessity for connection. As we progress, we invite listeners to consider how understanding Type Five can foster deeper empathy and insight into their own experiences and those of others.HUMAN INTERVIEW: Melissa KircherWebsiteInstagramTwitterTicktokThe Enneagram InstituteType 5Awareness to ActionType 5The Narrative EnneagramType 5Awareness to ActionEnneagram on Demand - Certification ProgramMario Sikora: IG: @mariosikoraTikTok: @mariosikoraWeb: mariosikora.comSubstack: mariosikora.substack.comMaria Jose Munita: IG: @mjmunitaWeb: mjmunita.comPodcasts:Awareness to Action Enneagram in a MovieThe Narrative TraditionTerry Saracino:Web: https://www.narrativeenneagram.org/team/terry-saracino/Christopher Copeland:Web: illuminatingpaths.comNarrative Podcasts:Heart of the...
