Republican presidential hopeful Nikki Haley shocked some voters yesterday at a campaign stop in New Hampshire. She was asked about the cause of the Civil War. Her answer was that the government was managing freedoms and telling people what they could and could not do. Then she tried to turn the question around on the voter who was flabbergasted that Haley couldn't bring herself to mention slavery as the cause of the Civil War. We are a little more used to shocking behavior from Trump. It's no surprise that he is pulling out more lies. As mentioned on the Mark Thompson show Tuesday and Wednesday, three US troops were injured in a drone attack in Iraq. Trump said one troop member died which is not true. He also said no one is talking about it, again not true. He rattled off a bundle of lies that went unchecked during an interview with a Trump friendly journalist. Colorado Republicans have officially appealed to the US Supreme Court to keep Trump‘s name on their 2024 primary ballot. Former federal prosecutor and great legal mind. David Katz will help us sort it all out. Mark checks in with a good friend of the show, Shadoe Stevens. Here's a guy who has been a Pulitzer-winning columnist, a best-selling novelist, a much sought-after speaker, and guitarist in a garage band that also features Stephen King. It's Dave Barry and his one of a kind career makes him a legend of comedy. From humble beginnings as a beat reporter, Dave eventually became the king of newspaper humor columnists and his affectionately irreverent humor connect with a boomer audience from the start. While he has dialed back his output in recent years, fans still look forward to his annual year in review column and snarky holiday gift guide and he found a new outlet during the pandemic cutting short videos for the Miami Herald filled with the patented Barry wit. Find more Dave Barry below and thanks for sharing our shows. Want more Dave? Dave isn't a standup comic, but his popular keynote speeches are filled with humor nonetheless. Here a slice of Dave talking about one of his favorite topics -- adulthood! https://youtu.be/mlBvneYoH0E Dave's World was a sitcom based loosely on Barry's life, starring Night Court vet Harry Anderson as Dave. A TRUE SPIRITUAL JOURNEY TOLD BY A REAL WARRIOR WARRIOR: A Spiritual Odyssey There are no coincidences. You came across this book through a connection between your hungry spirit and the writer's desire that you be nourished. Which parts of you it will awaken will be as individual as your yearnings, but the words are guaranteed to feed your soul. Join Rev. Bill as he recounts his spiritual journey in selected stories through a life which began with a seemingly unending dysfunctional childhood, included an astonishing tour of duty in Vietnam, and then opened into one of the widest benevolent lives ever. His entire existence has been lived out under a spiritual umbrella that keeps him safe no matter how powerful the storm. Not afraid to go out into the rain, Rev. Bill's humility, integrity, loyalty, faith and courage is expressed through his every move. His investment in recounting events provides all readers to experience places they've only dreamed about. The situations allow reflective readers to parallel the events to their own lives. And in the end, each reader will stand with him at Machu Picchu, Peru and begin his or her own odyssey. In effect this book is a road map to Rev. Bill's personal, spiritual and emotional destination. Metaphorically the ‘map' is on the seat of his pickup. When you begin the book he's essentially handing you the keys and offering you the opportunity to experience his route, after which you'll be able to tweak your own map. Here is What Others Have To Say About This Book: “You will enjoy and be inspired by his tales of the inexplicable, and may well find inner strength for facing your own difficulties in life. This is a great man and I'm proud to call him my friend.” Shadoe Stevens; radio and television personality and TV and movie producer, artist “A warrior in the true sense, Bill awakens us to the depths of soul combat, taking us from the war zone to the hearts of all he touched.” Maureen McGill, author, associate professor at Pacific Lutheran University "Bill McDonald is the real spiritual deal. He's made a tremendous impact on me, guiding, encouraging, and educating me in ways that have opened my eyes and my soul, and have helped me to become a better and happier person.” Gayle Lynds, New York Times' bestselling author "When I first met Rev. Bill, I knew immediately that there was something special about this man. In his book, you are able to walk a spiritual path with a man who has served his country, lived to tell about it, and then refocused his energies on alleviating the suffering of those around him. The stories in his book are those of an individual who has opened himself up to the transcendental, and written about his insights. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has ventured, or thought about venturing, down the road of higher purpose." Christopher Martini, writer, director, producer, actor "Most of Bill McDonald's stories contain the line "...and so I went with my feelings" and that choice has always worked out for him. Extraordinarily gifted, Bill lives in a rich cosmos where spiritual assets and knowledge are intertwined. Although he has experienced poverty, abuse, physical and emotional pain, and war, Bill thrives. In his new old book, Warrior, he shares tragical, magical tales that inspire and confound -- and celebrate the many perspectives of life." Joyce Faulkner, award-winning author of "In the Shadow of Suribachi," "Windshift," and "USERNAME." “Bill's book is one that has superb descriptions of the life's lessons learned from the hell of combat to an incredible, miraculous journey home to his truest self. His story is entertaining, spiritually enlightening, inspirational, and filled with guiding wisdom. It is a book that will surely bring all readers to their own Spiritual awakening.” Nancy Clark, international author, Divine Moments: Ordinary People Having Spiritually Transformative Experiences.

Shadoe Stevens started off in radio at 11-years-old in his hometown of Jamestown, North Dakota. Urban Legend has it that LIFE Magazine picked up the story that he was on the air as "The World's Youngest Disc Jockey." He graduated from high school, then for three years majored in Art at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, before switching to Drama and Journalism at the University of Arizona for another two years, all the while working full time in radio to help put himself through school. It was then that he was given the chance to move to Boston to become a DJ at WRKO. On his way to Boston, his name was changed to Shadoe in a phone call from Alamogordo, New Mexico. In one year, his huge number one success at WRKO in Boston led him to Los Angeles. With his resonant voice and command on the airwaves, Stevens became one of the City's most popular radio personalities. He then began his first major television career move as the sidekick/announcer for "The Steve Allen Show." Back in radio a short time later, he would become a legendary Program Director, creating and launching "World Famous KROQ-FM. Leaving radio after creating three number one L.A. stations - KRLA, KROQ-FM, and KMET-FM - Shadoe went into advertising. He created the Branding, Advertising and Marketing campaign for a West Coast home electronics company called The Federated Group. The campaign increased sales 500%. In four years, the Federated Group grew from 14 local stores to 78 superstores in 5 states. It was one of the most successful regional advertising campaigns in U.S. history and the first regional ad campaign ever to have received a 2-page spread in Time Magazine. His Awards in advertising include Clio Awards and the Big Apple Award. In radio, he received the Billboard Magazine Personality of the Year Award. Shadoe's more than 1,100 different television commercials for Federated led first to a 3-picture deal with Dino DeLaurentis Entertainment and the cult movie "TRAXX," to the number one TV series "Hollywood Squares," then to the Fred Silverman produced one hour CBS series "Max Monroe: Loose Cannon," followed by the hit CBS sitcom "Dave's World." Along the way, Shadoe replaced Casey Kasem as the host of "American Top 40." This became the biggest radio show in the world with one billion listeners a week in 110 countries. During this time, Shadoe was a guest star on more than a dozen television series including "Beverly Hills 90210," "Baywatch," "The Larry Sanders Show," "Caroline in the City," "Clueless," "Fast Track," and "Burke's Law." In motion pictures, Shadoe played the title role in "Traxx," Fred in "Mr. Saturday Night," Maxwell in "Bucket of Blood," and Djony Dakota in "Shadoevision" for HBO. Shadoe was the Founder, Chairman, and President of RhythmRadio - "The Sound of the World in a Good Mood," that was the first world-wide music network and delivered programming on the radio in 30 countries and programming on the Internet delivered in 7 languages. Shadoe created "Cabo Wabo Radio" for rock star Sammy Hagar, designing an "all up-all the time" rock music format with studios in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and Bel Air, California. It became the number one Alternative Music format online in the world. Shadoe then created "Mental Radio," - mentalradio.net - a talk/entertainment radio show described as "Coast to Coast" as if done by Monty Python." It's a show about the extraordinary and those who laugh in the face of fear. Visit www.mentalradio.net. Shadoe was the voice of "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" from 2005 to 2015, and has continued to be the voice of countless commercials and television shows including The Grammys, The Emmys, and Comic Relief.

As host of American Top 40, Kasem was the nation’s tastemaker, doling out hit singles and music factoids as he counted down each week’s most popular songs for nearly 35 years. A talent that transcended his medium, Kasem became a household name thanks to his distinctly trademark voice, his aspiring catchphrases and his love and genuine enthusiasm of the music he was broadcasting nationwide every week. After bouncing around the nation as a disc jockey from the mid-1950s to the early 1960s, Kasem finally landed in Los Angeles in the late Sixties. He first enjoyed showbiz success as a voice actor, lending his versatile pipes to cartoon characters like Robin and, most famously, Shaggy in Scooby-Doo, a role Kasem would fill from 1969 to 2010. From there, Kasem used his disc jockey skills – which he honed as an announcer for Armed Forces Radio Korea when he was in the Army – to co-create and host American Top 40, a syndicated weekly music countdown show that would become pop radio’s equivalent of Dick Clark’s American Bandstand. For his vast work in the entertainment industry, Kasem was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1981. Four years later, he was inducted into the National Association of Broadcasters’ Hall of Fame for his radio career. Kasem is also a member of the National Radio Hall of Fame. Kasem’s run as host of American Top 40 began in 1970, giving him a national platform to showcase his unique personality and epic catchphrases like “The hits don’t stop ’til we reach the top” and “Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars.” Kasem remained with the program until 1988, when a contract dispute led him to start his own syndicated countdown show called Casey’s Top 40. With Kasem no longer the voice of American Top 40 — radio host Shadoe Stevens took over the role — ratings for AT40 plummeted as stations instead picked up Casey’s Top 40. American Top 40 was ultimately canceled in 1995; three years later, Kasem himself acquired the rights to the show and reinstated himself as host. Kasem was a mainstay on radios until January 4th, 2004. https://twitter.com/absolutegold1

He was also the announcer on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, and has been the voice of numerous award shows, including the Emmy's and the Grammy's. There's also a spate of children's books and a career as an artist, not to mention a happy marriage and three kids. Though some of the success came early on, Stevens attributes the majority of it to his 30 years of sobriety—an anniversary that was documented last year on Oprah's network. In this episode, he and AfterParty's Anna David talk about the people in the bushes that talk to you when you're on coke, the large amygdala all addicts seem to have and believing that every job is the last one before the universe comes in at the last moment and saves the day, among many other topics.
